Cynthia Erivo loves dramatic fashion and she’s often the standout on a red carpet. Her Oscars red carpet gown was by Versace and it was quite good, but she’s set the bar so high for herself that I expected more. She did deliver during her amazing performance of “Stand Up,” from Harriet. She had on a gold Vera Wang that was phenomenal, and I also appreciated the dress she changed into for the VF Oscar Party. Before we get into that, Cynthia is just 33 and if she would have won an Oscar last night she would have been the youngest EGOT! She still has plenty of time. Her performance in Harriet was so good and she broke my heart a little. I expected that film to be harder to take than it was. There were tough moments, but overall it was a story of triumph and badassery.
Look at the Versace she changed into The Vanity Fair Oscar Party. I love the delicate folding, the touch of green mermaid fabric, the matching shoes and how much fun she’s having with it. I would say that I would have preferred to see this at the Oscars but the colors are just a tad too playful. This is such a thoughtful high fashion look.

Reminder: Here’s her Oscars dress. It’s still amazing.

Regina King, on the other hand, choose the right Versace for the Oscars. (I have no idea if this dress is Versace too, I’m just saying she picked the right one.) Remember her look during the ceremony? This is a perfectly lovely sequin column gown with black piping. It’s a very elegant evening gown that isn’t memorable.
Idina Menzel had a look in a strapless empire waist black and sequin gown. I love this and would wear it, but it’s not a watercooler type gown like Cynthia’s look, and not every dress should be.
