Diane Kruger covers the latest issue of The Edit to promote her latest French film, Disorder. The interview is pretty interesting, because Kruger is once again talking openly about her relationship with Joshua Jackson. Diane and Joshua have been together for a decade, and while they are famously unmarried, they are also one the all-time best red carpet couples. Many feel that they are #RelationshipGoals. But… Diane still isn’t talking about that weird moment back in December, when sources confirmed that she was making out with Norman Reedus in a New York dive bar. I still don’t know what was up with that, and Diane is not spilling the details. You can read the full interview here at net-a-porter.com, and here are some highlights:
Moving to New York with Joshua Jackson: “I just moved [to New York] this week. I need to unpack and buy some house stuff, like candles and books.” For the past five years Kruger has lived between Paris and Vancouver, where her long-term boyfriend, actor Joshua Jackson, was filming a TV series. Jackson’s Off Broadway stage debut in Smart People last month was the catalyst for this latest move. “[Moving here] was a major commitment. That’s a big step into adulthood for me, to allow that time for someone else out of my time.”
She’s socially awkward: “I’m a loner. I think it has held me back in my life quite a bit. I’m socially awkward with people in a bigger group. People often say they think I’m cold or standoffish, but I’m just not a good schmoozer at all. And that’s not good in my job… because, obviously, it is a big requirement.”
Working in French films: “Parts in French films are more interesting for women. In American studio pictures, women are there to support the male protagonist in whatever his storyline is.”
Working with Catherine Deneuve. “I thought [Deneuve] would be this posh, perfect Parisian, but she’s so not. The last time I saw her she was in this fur coat, sitting on one of the driver’s cars outside, smoking a cigarette and holding a glass of wine in the other hand. She’s so cool.”
Self-awareness: “I didn’t have a great private life until recently; I was always looking for the next thing. But when I turned 30, I realized I was being an idiot. I was living this accomplished life: I speak three languages, I’ve traveled the world, made good money. I realized that I really don’t know anything about what is going on in the world around me – and [I was] not so great about [knowing] myself, either… Now I’m not too self-centered!”
She doesn’t watch The Affair: “He would rather not, [with] all the sex scenes. I think it brings up uncomfortable conversations.”
Whether she’ll marry Joshua: “Welcome to my dilemma!”
Starting a family: “I feel very European and I think that I’m going to grow old in Paris. I have this fantasy of raising my kids there one day. I just can’t imagine living my life sipping cocktails at the Chateau Marmont, you know?… It took me a long time to realize that I’m never going to play a better part than my own life.”

A lot of sites are running the moving-to-New York quotes as “Diane and Joshua have finally moved in together after 10 years!!” But is that really what she’s saying? I think she’s saying that after 10 years of flirting with the idea of moving to New York, they finally pulled the trigger. Joshua and Diane have always lived together, it’s just that they’re always working and so they’re often staying in rentals in Canada, or LA or Paris or whatever. Also, I’m so ready for Joshua and Diane to have a baby. She’s been talking about making babies with him for years!
