Whereas many people are sad to see the Obamas leave the White House, the President and Mrs. Obama don’t seem to be broken up over it. Since entering the home stretch of their eight year presidency, they seem to be having more and more fun with their appearances. After practically securing the Democratic nomination for herself at the DNC, Michelle Obama switched gears earlier this week by cohosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show. After filming the show, Ellen escorted Mrs. Obama to CVS (a drug store) so Ellen could help Michelle practice shopping on her own. While at the store, the ladies were befuddled by a Coinstar coins-to-cash machine, picked up some gift cards and got into a box of wine that they shared with the whole store. And then they both signed the box and gave it to the customer that helped them figure out how to pour it. A box of wine, signed by Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres – I would replace the kids portraits on the mantle with that. Here is the clip:
They really should have called me. Never, never use the self-checkout. Something always goes wrong with the self-checkout and I’m convinced that the attendant who is supposed to help doesn’t really exist. Plus, I know my way around a box of wine. I love how seriously Mrs. O took this. That tone she used on Ellen with the back scratcher? Oh, we’ve all heard that tone from our moms in a drugstore. But my favorite part is the secret service people. God bless their dedication, it must be difficult to be on the lookout for potential threats while having to weigh in on the decision about which earbuds to get Sasha.
There are many other clips of Mrs. Obama’s turn at TV Talk Show host. She dances during her opening and does duck lips with Bradley Cooper for a selfie. Plus this glorious moment when she gives Steph Curry tips on how to trash talk the President on the golf course, “Talk about his ears.” But this clip of Mrs. Obama’s thoughts about her time in the White House touched me. I do think she is proud of her family and of her country and I just hope she knows how proud we are of her as well.
