After a 6-medal run at the Rio Olympics, Michael Phelps and fiancée Nicole Johnson enjoyed a relaxing swim with their 3-month-old son Boomer.
“There’s nothing like being back home!!” the swimming champ, 31, Instagrammed the family photo. “Great way to spend my first day in retirement!!”
After bringing up his medal total to 28, Phelps told PEOPLE it’s time for retirement.
“It’s time for me to start the next chapter of my life, and I’m looking forward to that now,” Phelps said. “I have a beautiful fiancée, a beautiful baby boy [whom] I want to spend as much time with as I can. I’ve been able to accomplish everything I could ever dream of [with professional swimming], and it’s time to move on.”
And it sounds like Boomer will have a sibling before too long.
“We’ve talked about more [children]. We don’t really know how many more we want,” Phelps shared. “I think we’re gonna have some fun with Boomer before we make that next choice of trying for another one.”
He added: “We would love a girl. Love, love, love a girl. We wanted a boy first, just in case we did have other children, [so] he could be the protector of his younger sibling or siblings. So we started off on a perfect note: We got a boy. We got a beautiful, healthy baby boy, and we’re looking to continue to grow our family.”
Johnson also shared a photo of her “men” heading home on the plane.
“So excited to spend a lil r&r with these 2!! @m_phelps00 @boomerrphelps #mymen,” she Instagrammed the image.
