When Rihanna was announced as the first woman of color to front a Dior campaign, I was pretty excited. Finally, the fashion house could be inspired by a genuine fashion muse! The only problem, of course, was that they immediately put her in one of Raf Simon’s cookie-cutter designs, and all hope was lost. Even Rihanna sort of gave up and opted to wear magnificent Guo Pei at the Met Gala, which could have been a prearranged agreement. Or maybe that was Rih’s way of telling Dior to step up their game.
Whatever the case, Rihanna showed up to Paris Fashion Week for a front-row seat. She wore a giant pink something to the show. Some outlets are calling it a cape, but I’m calling it a straight-up poncho. Now when I think of ponchos, childhood camping memories come to mind. But Dior went bigger with Rihanna, and I have to say — aside from the pink — this is a pretty fabulous poncho. If she was simply wearing stilettos, this look would have flopped, but the fierce black boots counteract the cutesy color. This is a win for both Dior and Rihanna. Do you agree?
Rihanna also wore another pink ensemble, which I’m including below. She frequently gets stuck with pink when she’s representing Dior, and she may dislike it, but she’s getting paid. Rihanna also wore a silver coat at a Paris nightclub to party with Travis Scott, so I guess the public makeout session may be an official relationship. She can do so much better than him, but maybe she’s simply having fun. I don’t see Rihanna ever settling down in a long-term relationship, and I feel the same way about her dalliance with Dior. She does wear the heck out of this poncho though.
