Back in July, someone started spreading rumors about a possible hookup between Tesla-founder and billionaire Elon Musk and Amber Heard. As we quickly learned, Elon and Amber had been friends for a few years, and they were in Florida around the same time, and maybe/possibly spent some alone-time together. There were also reports that Elon was wining and dining Amber in LA too. Elon is in the middle of divorcing Talulah Riley, and he’s already gone through one other divorce, in which he made his wife sign a “postnup” limiting the amount of money she could receive when they eventually divorced. My point is that while Elon is a billionaire, he seems pretty cheap when it comes to the ladies.
Another point: I didn’t care for the way Elon Musk’s name was invoked in the middle of Amber Heard’s announcement that she was donating her entire divorce settlement to charity. The anti-Amber theory seemed to be “Amber hooked herself another rich guy, so what does she need $7 million?” Again, Elon is famously cheap. He’s not the kind of man to shower a woman with gifts and cash. And even if he was that type of man, the whole “Amber has Elon on the hook” is sort of gross in this particular context. Especially since it seems like she’s been friendzoning him for four years. According to THR:
Newly single Amber Heard recently has been seen about town with a new pal — Elon Musk. Turns out it was a friendship in the making for four years, ever since the Tesla founder nearly met Johnny Depp’s now former wife while doing a cameo in Robert Rodriguez’s 2013 film Machete Kills, in which Heard had a role (as Miss San Antonio). Musk, 45, didn’t have a scene with Heard, 30, but apparently became infatuated anyway, according to a source close to the set, and began sending emails to Rodriguez and others — some made available to THR through a confidential source — asking him to set up a rendezvous.
“If there is a party or event with Amber, I’d be interested in meeting her just out of curiosity,” Musk wrote. “Allegedly, she is a fan of George Orwell and Ayn Rand … most unusual.”
Rodriguez and team did indeed set up a dinner, but Heard — who was dating Depp at the time — didn’t show, leading Musk to try again. “Can you send her a note saying I would like to get together for lunch in LA?” he emailed the Rodriguez team again. “Am not angling for a date. I know she’s in a long-term relationship, but … Amber just seems like an interesting person to meet.”
Despite recent reports that the two have been spending a lot of time together, a source close to Musk contends that it’s nothing romantic: “As for now, they are just friends.”

Again, it sounds less like Amber has Elon on the hook and more like he’s slightly infatuated with her and she’s friendzoning him. Perhaps Amber has read Justine Musk’s Marie Claire essay and Amber wants no part of it. Coming out the marriage to Johnny Depp, I do not blame her. She probably just wants to spend time with her friends, work and forget about dating for a while. But Elon Musk will likely try to court her all the same. We’ll only know that Amber is into it when she dyes her hair platinum (Elon has a thing for extreme blondes).
