Last night, I was too busy watching Juan Martin del Potro trounce Steve Johnson at the US Open to watch the evening cable news. So I missed this absolutely insane interview on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes. Joy Reid was sitting in for Hayes and she interviewed Marco Gutierrez, who is the founder of “Latinos for Trump.” Gutierrez tried to explain why he’s supporting Trump and why more Latinos should support Trump. His explanation? “We’re having problems here…my culture is a very dominant culture, it’s imposing, and it’s causing problems, if you don’t do something about it, you’re gonna have taco trucks on every corner.”

Which brings me my special theory of immigration in America: even the most anti-immigration Americans still love food from other cultures, and in America, food is the great leveler. We embrace other cultures by embracing their food. It’s part of the glorious melting pot of America, a melting pot that involves stew, matzo balls, tortilla strips and curry. After Gutierrez said that, everyone was like, “Wait, a taco truck on every corner sounds awesome!!” So Twitter meme’d it.

Will the #TacoTrucksOnEveryCorner be selling both “Soft & Hard” shell tacos or is that yet to be determined? Such confusion.
