Several months back, Us Weekly claimed that Wendi Deng Murdoch – Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife – was dating Vladimir Putin. The story seemed utterly bizarre, but no one would put it past Putin or Wendi Deng, honestly. But in Wendi’s recent Vogue profile – one of the most name-dropping, sycophantic pieces I’ve ever read – she denied the dating rumor, claiming that she had never even met Putin. But Wendi does know Ivanka Trump. Ivanka and Wendi are on holiday together with their families right now in Croatia. Ivanka posted the above Instagram over the weekend.

While the Wendi-Putin-dating story might be false, it does seem like just another chapter in the ongoing lunacy of the Trump campaign. Many believe that Trump is pretty much Putin’s choice for president, and that Putin is doing what he can to see Trump elected, perhaps even off-the-books bribery to Trump’s campaign manager. So is it strange that Putin’s rumored girlfriend seems to be “running” Ivanka too? Or maybe Wendi and Ivanka are simply old friends. Wendi reportedly played matchmaker for Ivanka and her husband Jared too.

What else? Gawker had a really awful story from Wendi Murdoch’s children’s former nanny – go here to read. It’s amazing to me that Vogue pushed this idea that Wendi is Grace and Class Personified when Wendi’s ex-employees tell an entirely different story.

Last thing: I think it’s really weird that Ivanka went on vacation as her dad’s campaign completely goes off the rails. Perhaps Ivanka saw the polls, realized her dad was never going to win anything, and decided to go on holiday. But it’s strange because Ivanka is one of the few people around Donald Trump who can actually talk some sense into him.
