Vanessa Nada and Lin-Manuel Miranda at the 92nd Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, USA on February 9, 2020.

The administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has been abysmal, to say the least. Governors have had to step up and take care of their citizens. On Sunday, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio finally ordered the closure of the largest school system in the country. These are scary times, and people have been sharing ideas on social media for ways to engage in self-care. Here’s a page from PBS about how to talk to children about coronavirus, and a story about museums that offer virtual tours.

Another gift to folks who can’t leave home has come from Lin-Manuel Miranda. A few weeks ago, we got the official word that a Hamilton movie will be coming in 2021. On Thursday, an announcement was made that Broadway would be shutting down until April 12. Lin-Manuel hopped on Twitter with an announcement that he was sharing a duet written for Alexander Hamilton and George Washington, “I Have This Friend,” that was cut from the final show:

Wish I could send you peace of mind via this app.
Alas.
But I can send you music no one’s heard. Here’s a cut Hamilton/Washington tune called I Have This Friend. No one’s heard it, not even Kail.
Funnier if you picture me and @ChrisisSingin singing it.https://t.co/lhkLP0jQeT

That’s an incredibly kind gesture by Lin-Manuel! I’ve also seen a few graphics on Facebook for suggested schedules (if schools aren’t moving to online instruction). Starting this week, the Cincinnati Zoo will be offering weekday Home Safari Facebook Live events at 3PM Eastern. The first features local celebrity Fiona, an adorable hippopotamus that was born at the zoo in 2017. For fans of opera, the Metropolitan Opera will be streaming titles from its “Live in HD” series. And, if you have Disney+ and/or a child in your house, you probably already know that Frozen 2 is streaming now, three months ahead of schedule. I’m so glad that local officials are stepping up, and that companies (and people like Lin-Manuel!) are thinking of creative ways to keep people engaged and cheerful right now. Take care of yourselves and each other (and wash your hands)!

President Donald J. Trump holds a Coronavirus news conference

I am legitimately jealous of some British slang and obscenities a lot of the time. Calling people a “bell-end” in America will be met with a lot of blank looks. But it’s a good slam. And Donald Trump is a bell-end. Massively. He’s also a liar, a crook, a moron, a misogynist, a white supremacist, a nativist, a white nationalist, a Nazi, a sexual assailant, a spineless creep, a traitor, a monster, and an all-around disgusting person. Trump is more worried about the stock market than people who might die (and are already suffering) from the coronavirus. He has not put two and two together and realized that he showed bare-bones competence and leadership during a massive international crisis, the markets might calm down. Instead, he’s trying to stunt-queen his way into an economic recovery or something?

He did a press conference with CEOs on Friday, timed particularly to give the market a boost just before the closing bell. It worked because investors don’t care about what he was actually saying. In between blatant lies about testing availability and an overdue declaration of a national state of emergency, Trump took a moment to call a female reporter’s question “nasty” and then refused to take responsibility for his own unhinged, lackadaisical approach to a public health catastrophe. This reporter is PBS’s Yamiche Alcindor.

Shortly after that, NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump again about the lack of availability of corona tests and whether he takes responsibility for the failures of this administration. His response? “No, I don’t take responsibility at all…”

Question: Do you take any responsibility for the lag in testing?

The whole answer is just… kind of stupid-funny because he doesn’t even have the balls to go up there and say it out loud during a news conference, even though he’s itching to just spit it out: “IT’S OBAMA’S FAULT.” He’s been blaming Obama in tweets and in round-about ways, but he’s too f–king weak and pathetic to go all-in on that particular lie. Trump gutted his administration’s pandemic-response team. He refused to appoint new people. Obama understood that a pandemic could happen and he put people and plans in place. And it’s just pathetic to see this grown-ass fruit loop of a man completely abdicate responsibility. He’s just so weak.

Also, it seems like the reporters finally convinced Trump to get tested. This, after he has been exposed to several corona-positive people over the past week. Last night, the White House doctor came out and said Trump tested negative. Horsesh-t.

Angelina Jolie goes shopping at Lassens amid coronavirus pandemic

I felt attacked yesterday when I expressed my confusion about whether I should overreact or underreact to the coronavirus pandemic if I’m feeling okay. I went to the gym yesterday, and I picked up some more supplies at a grocery store. I’m prepared to socially distance and all of that, but the scenes are surreal and the shaming is real! It doesn’t help matters that when I am out, I see tons of people everywhere. Not as many people as usual, but still – I get that “people on the internet” are taking quarantining and social distancing and self-isolating seriously. But are other people?

So I don’t know what to think about Angelina Jolie doing some last-minute grocery shopping with her daughter Vivienne. They went to Whole Foods yesterday and came out with two big paper bags full of supplies. There are five kids at home with Angelina now, with Maddox in college in South Korea. If the Jolie-Pitt clan tries to self-isolate in LA, they’re going to need more supplies than that. Also: Angelina, by her own admission, can’t cook. My girl can’t boil an egg. Maybe they’re just getting Uber Eats or food deliveries?

Also: Angelina’s commitment to sack-dressing is really something. I’m actually pleased that she’s not wearing a black sack dress at the moment. It’s spring, so she went with a summery sack. The dress looks like a costume from Midsommer. And I friggin’ love her sunglasses. Little Vivi doesn’t want to be photographed though. Paparazzi in the time of corona.

Our sweet little boy came Earthside yesterday, peacefully at Home- birth was bright, fast & beautiful, and we are all SO in love ??? Mateo Antoni Martino 3.13.20, 7lbs 11oz, 21inches ? #HappilyEvaAfter #MateoAntoni #BirthDay #HomeBirthMama

Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino separated last November. It would have been a big story on its own, considering Eva’s mommy-Instagram-inspo life/career, but the gossip was even bigger than that because Eva was pregnant. Very pregnant – she was about five months along at the time, with their third child, a child Kyle had talked her into having (as she explained on her mommy-blog). They started divorce proceedings immediately and it definitely became clear that he did something unforgivable and she wasn’t having it. A few weeks ago, Eva mommy-blogged about her home birth plan. She wanted to be surrounded by her girlfriends and her two children, and she didn’t want Kyle to be there.

Well… the home birth turned out okay, so that’s the best news. Eva gave birth to a baby boy, Mateo Antoni Martino. She has a thing about M-names. Her older kids are named Marlowe Mae and Major James. Eva posted the Instagram, above, announcing the arrival and as you can see, Kyle was there to see his new kid. My guess is that Eva got the birth/delivery she wanted, without Kyle’s presence, but then Kyle came over shortly after Mateo was born. I do question why Kyle took off his shirt though – my guess is skin-to-skin contact with the baby, sure. But for the photos, he looks like he’s making himself at home in Eva’s bed. Honestly, I can’t imagine how confused Major and Marlowe are right now. They went from witnessing their mother give birth (whew) to daddy coming back home and taking off his shirt and hanging out with mommy in bed. Set aside some money for therapy now.

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on Feb 11, 2020 at 2:59pm PST

Has Khloe Kardashian been quieter lately or have I just been paying less attention to her? I don’t know and I don’t care. I happened upon this video of Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian which has the “Poosh” logo on it. Poosh is Kourtney’s (sad) attempt at branding her own lifestyle website, like Goop only… not as A-list/exclusive. The point of the shocking low-quality video is that Kourt and Khloe are sitting around, talking about breastfeeding in a real way. Real as in, Khloe talks about how she found breastfeeding very difficult, and she ended up using formula very quickly after True was born.

Khloe also says that Kylie Jenner made the choice not to breastfeed Stormi and that Kylie and Khloe used the same brand of HiPP formula from Germany. I have kind of a stupid question, but is it weird that Khloe and Kylie both had issues with breastfeeding, or rather, decided not to BF? I’m truly not interested in the Mommy Wars aspect of this, fed is best for the baby and True and Stormi are both healthy babies, etc. But I can’t help but think that Khloe, Kylie and Kim didn’t want to breastfeed because of their implants and because they didn’t want to do any more “damage” to their bodies. Is that harsh on my part? Khloe talks about how she tried and tried to breastfeed, but… it feels like there’s more to that story.

Also: after looking through Khloe’s Instagram, I’m convinced that she’s been pretty quiet in 2020 because she’s had more plastic surgery.

Even though The View is currently not doing any shows with a live audience, Joy Behar won’t be going to work. She is, as she says, in a “higher risk group”. So it’s about staying away from contact with anyone, period. Which I don’t think anyone can argue with. I was just surprised that she’s 77 year…
