Wendy Williams was on Seth Myers to promote her show coming back this week. I saw this a couple of days ago and realized I wanted to talk about it. She’s an odd bird, which is something we already know about her. She came off as defensive, like she often does, and this interview was awkward. Anyway she said she’s not dating, that she’s living in New York city in an apartment and that she passes the time by hanging out with her cats and spying on her neighbors (my words). One guy across the way regularly showers in full view and she’ll tell you about it. It sounds like she enjoys it when he does that. She did light up a little when she was talking about her two rescue cats. Here’s some of what she told Seth. This is from two videos of her interview, the second one of which is below.

On dating during quarantine
I haven’t been hugged by a man in five months. People have people. I have a search. For the first two months it was easy, March and April. Date, have fun. April [to] September I’m like ‘don’t come over here.’

On her rescue cats, sisters Chitchat and MyWay, taking a while to warm up to her
The tiger one immediately fell in love [with me]. The black and white cat did not like me for at least a month and a half. Now that’s the one that sleeps [under my arm] every night.

On doing her show from home for a while
My thing is I live in an apartment. Not my fault. It is very personal to me for people to see my area. People criticize and couldn’t understand my groove.

>strong>She likes to spy on her neighbors
There’s an apartment building across and the man takes showers. The shower is right there at the window and I watch. It’s a head to ankle [window]. I peep and I Tom.

[From Seth Myers on YouTube]

Seth called Wendy’s spying “borderline criminal,” which is true. Why would you do this and why would you admit it? I would say that maybe this guy will get a curtain in his bathroom now, but New York City is somewhat anonymous. I bet this neighbor doesn’t even know he lives across the street from her. He may not care. You’ve got to know that if you have a window to your shower and it faces the street in NYC people are going to see you. What you may not anticipate is someone creepily waiting for you to take a shower though. There’s this assumption that people mind their business.

As for her show coming back, Wendy is doing it without an audience like every show. She said her her staff is on “total lockdown” and have three covid tests a day! Those are super uncomfortable I would hate getting my nose swabbed that often. I wonder if Wendy’s show is going to last that long after it comes back. Also, she’s in a studio and her video quality was still kind of fuzzy. How did that happen?

The Prince of Wales' 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration

The Duchess of Sussex was one of many celebrity women to issue public statements about the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday. Meghan kept it short:

“With an incomparable and indelible legacy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg will forever be known as a woman of brilliance, a Justice of courage, and a human of deep conviction. She has been a true inspiration to me since I was a girl. Honor her, remember her, act for her.”

[Via People]

While I will forever believe that Meghan’s get-out-the-vote work is apolitical, this statement does sort of edge up on, you know, being partial to one side over the other. GOOD. I hope the knuckle-dragging conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic stay mad.

Meanwhile, Katie Nicholl recently had some very vague predictions and “scoops” about what the Sussexes’ new life COULD be. She’s so obviously talking out of her ass, it’s pretty funny.

“They are, I’m told, beginning to explore their neighborhood,” royal expert Katie Nicholl tells ET. “They have ventured out and they’ve been spotted out and about. They are keeping a low profile. They are very aware of the paparazzi. They are determined not to be photographed and particularly for Archie not to be photographed by the paparazzi, so don’t expect to see them necessarily out at the beaches near by.”

One of the couple’s favorite California pastimes is visiting a beloved fast food chain.

“They often stop at the In-N-Out Burger much to the astonishment of the staff who serve them,” Nicholl reveals. “Anyone who knows Prince Harry knows he loves a good burger. He’s a fan of fast food so it doesn’t surprise me at all that he stops there.”

Though the couple originally claimed to want to split their time between North America and the United Kingdom, the coronavirus pandemic has kept them from traveling back to England.

“They will come back to the U.K., of course, they will want to see Harry’s family over here,” Nicholl says. “I can see them coming back and spending part of the summer holiday over here… possibly alternating Christmases, but I don’t think they’re going to be dividing their time. I think they have made their new life in America and that is where they are going to spend a majority of their time from now on.”

As for the relationship between Harry and William, things are looking up for the siblings.

“The brothers spoke on Harry’s birthday,” Nicholl says of Harry’s 36th birthday earlier this week. “It’s no secret that it’s been a rocky path between the two brothers, but I actually think the distance has been a good thing for them. They are speaking more than they did before. They are getting along much better than they were several months ago, so I think the signs are all very positive. I think it will be some time before we see them having possibly a cozy Christmas together, but I think things are definitely better than they were.”

[From ET]

Yes, we know they’re being super-careful of paparazzi… because they haven’t been photographed in Santa Barbara at all. Well deduced, Katie Nicholl. And no one can keep their stories straight about William and Harry… either William is incandescent with rage and constantly worrying that the Sussexes will upstage him OR there is a softening and the brothers have reached a fragile truce. Personally, I doubt Will & Harry speak much. I think Willileaks is still full of RAGE.

Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo are all smiles as they continue another steamy make-out session outside his restaurant in NYC

Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo are the new Afflarmas. Sorry, I don’t make the rules. For several weeks, they’ve been carefully pap strolling here and there around New York, always managing to get the same few photographers shooting them, so that there would be a series of high-priced exclusives for their photos together. But now it’s gotten into Afflarmas territory – Katie and Emilio are making out in public so often, the photo shoots are no longer exclusive. That’s when you know it’s love! Or something. Here are some photos – the first we’ve had access to – of Katie and her shady man Emilio, making out in New York on Friday. She’s completely in love with him. We haven’t seen her this demonstrative with a dude since… um, Tom Cruise. She was definitely not this way with Jamie Foxx. From Us Weekly:

Not hung up on him. Katie Holmes’ ex-boyfriend Jamie Foxx is in her past, while new flame Emilio Vitolo Jr. is her future.

“Katie has no ill will toward Jamie, but she has completely moved on from him and just thinks of Jamie in a friend type of way now,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. The insider adds that Holmes, 41, “is happy she can be free and comfortable with her relationship with Emilio and doesn’t need for it to be private, like her past relationship with Jamie Foxx was.”

[From Us Weekly]

Before this, I didn’t really think of this thing with Emilio as a f–k you to Jamie Foxx. But now I do. Katie and Jamie must have left each other on somewhat bad terms and now she’s like “look how public I can be with EMILIO.” And yes, she’s also fallen hard and fast:

Getting serious! Katie Holmes has found her dream man in new boyfriend Emilio Vitolo Jr.

“Katie is absolutely head over heels in love with Emilio,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “She has wanted a stable guy in her life for a while and has found that with him.” Holmes, 41, feels different in the romance than she has with previous significant others. “She is happy she can be free and comfortable with her relationship with Emilio and doesn’t need for it to be private, like her past relationship with Jamie Foxx was,” the insider reveals.

Us revealed earlier this month that Vitolo was engaged shortly before his relationship with the Dawson’s Creek alum made headlines. He ended his engagement to Rachel Emmons via text message, leaving the designer “heartbroken and embarrassed,” according to a source.

[From Us Weekly]

Yeah, I’ll forever believe that Emilio is not a good dude for what he did to Rachel Emmons. By all accounts, his thing with Emmons was completely serious – they lived together, they were engaged, she adored him and she was getting ready to marry him. And he dumped her by text when he had a chance with Katie. Ugh. This one will end in tears.

I saw a few tweets last night criticizing the In Memoriam segment, specifically the arrangement (which seemed insane, because it was stunning) or the editing, but I have to ask, exactly who is watching this segment and thinking ‘this doesn’t really meet my standards on an aesthetic level’? I mean, I…

HRH The Prince of Wales Birthday Family Portrait

In a recent Entertainment Tonight interview, royal commentator Katie Nicholl claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry were on a Zoom call together on Harry’s recent birthday. The fact that Katie Nicholl doesn’t know anything about anything isn’t surprising, and I still assume that anything coming out of her mouth about the Sussexes is garbage. But I also think that she still has deep sources in Kensington Palace and in the Middleton family. It’s worth considering that she’s being told by Camp Cambridge that the brothers are talking and that there’s been some softening there. Whether or not that’s true… well, it definitely feels like Camp Cambridge wants people to think that. Interestingly enough, other sources told The Sunday People that William and Kate actually blanked on the family’s birthday Zoom with Harry:

The Sunday People reports that William and Kate were absent from the virtual celebration for Harry’s 36th birthday. Prince Charles and the queen were joined by Camilla on the Zoom call to Harry, Meghan, and Archie in California. A source said: “William sent his birthday best wishes. There was some excuse made about why he wasn’t there. The boys love each other and there will always be a close connection. It’s just been difficult of late. It’s unfortunate that William could not be on the call.”

Of the call, the source told the People: “It was very pleasant. Harry told the family how much he missed them. Meghan baked a cake and Harry blew out candles. Archie made them laugh when he also blew them out.”

Archie, now 16 months old, said “Pa”, short for grandpa to Charles. “It was a bit awkward that William and Kate weren’t there,” the source said.

Such petty behavior seems an odd way for the royal family to move forward. Unfortunately, it also seems all too believable: The usually very careful William and Kate didn’t include Meghan in a picture they posted online to wish Harry a happy birthday (they are also believed to have chatted privately).

[From The Daily Beast]

Yeah, it’s possible that brothers spoke (or Zoomed) one-on-one on or around Harry’s birthday and then William and Kate skipped the family Zoom. I still believe that there is significant frostiness between William and Harry and there has been for months/years. I also think that at this point, Harry doesn’t really give a sh-t? He knows how petty and angry his brother is. But I bet Charles was happy to see Harry and Archie.

I care about Sandra Oh and I was sad that she lost out on yet another Emmy Award. She is truly the Amy Adams of the Emmys. Sandra has now been nominated for EIGHT Emmy Awards and she’s lost every time, for Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve. It’s rough. She has won Golden Globes and several SAG Awards though, so it’s not like she’s been blanked entirely, across all award shows.

Last night, Sandra lost again and she even had the link-up camera at home, so we saw her loser face (she actually looked happy for Zendaya, but still). Sandra’s Emmy outfit was worth discussing, because honestly, I thought more people would do what she did – wear something comfortable and meaningful rather than “glam.” Sandra wore regular old pants and a specially-made jacket and match mask in a lovely shade of violet. She spoke to British Vogue about the meaning behind the custom look.

Why she decided to have the jacket & mask made: “These are unusual times. And, in a lot of ways, it’s been an extremely creative one. We’re having to reconsider the whole system of awards shows and fashion and red carpets. Everybody’s used to having relationships and fittings with designers of a certain prominence – and this shift has forced me to reflect on who I am and how I express myself through clothes.”

On Black Lives Matter:
“After George Floyd’s death and the protests that followed, I felt that as an Asian-American, a Korean-American person, I wanted to express my support for the Black community in a way that felt personal to my community. Then, a playwright friend of mine sent me this local LA brand, KORELIMITED, by the designer Matthew Kim, who had done a line of T-shirts and hoodies to support Black Lives Matter. Even though it’s really different from what you would normally wear on a red carpet, I contacted my stylist Elizabeth Saltzman and asked if it would be possible to collaborate with Kim for the Emmys.”

The customized pieces: A few emails later, and the KORE team had agreed to work with Oh on a custom bomber jacket embroidered with symbols that honour both Black culture and Oh’s own Korean heritage. (Fittingly, KORE stands for Keepin’ Our Roots Eternal.) “It’s in a royal purple colour – which is a super Korean colour and brings a certain mindset for me – and it says ‘Black Lives Are Precious’ in Korean writing, because the literal translation of Black Lives Matter is impossible in Korean. The characters have to be read top to bottom, right to left, [a traditional way of writing Korean script] and there are dashes, or taegukgi, lifted from the Korean flag, which represent celestial bodies and the natural elements and all of that good stuff. And then on the right there’s a mugunghwa [hibiscus], the national flower of Korea.”

She did her own hair & makeup: “My hair is really long now – I have Covid hair – so I’m going to try and copy some of the long braids and really elaborate hairdos from pictures. Somehow I just feel like that hair lends itself to the streetwear.”

[From British Vogue]

I love this! I love that she contacted an independent streetwear company (Korean-American-owned) to make her specialized pieces saying “Black Lives Are Precious.” Kore Limited liked the collab so much, they’ve made more and they’re selling them, with proceeds benefiting Campaign Zero and Black Girls Code. The jacket is so cool too, and it’s so beautiful. Aren’t you surprised that more people didn’t take the time to get some kind of custom pieces like this made?

With Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy winning their #Emmys tonight, that means our little Canadian show is the first comedy to ~ever~ sweep all four acting categories, and that is absolutely wild ??

A post shared by Schitt’s Creek (@schittscreek) on Sep 20, 2020 at 6:55pm PDT

One highlight of last night’s Emmy’s was the Schitt’s Creek team, live from Toronto, all hanging out and freaking out as they won so many Emmys. They swept the entire comedy category in this, their sixth and final season. So many people binged that charming comedy over lockdown and this felt like their swan song. Dan Levy said that it was on brand for them to get so many nominations when they can’t attend, but they did get to have a party and that felt fitting. I got nervous seeing some of them hugging with their masks down, but their social media made it clear that they’ve all been tested and that they’ve been quarantined ever since.

Catherine O’Hara won for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. I’ve queued this up to her speech. Look at her rocking those Doc Martens with her gown. This is her first acting Emmy I can’t believe it. This was Eugene Levy’s first Emmy too!

Dan Levy, Eugene Levy and Annie Murphy won their acting categories, Dan Levy won for both Outstanding Writing and Directing, and they won Outstanding Comedy Series! Here’s their acceptance speech for that, queued up. Check out Jeff Garlin of Curb Your Enthusiasm shirtless and crazy-looking, that’s awesome. I wish I could hug people again.

Succession won in a lot of categories too. They got Outstanding Drama for the first year (last year they only won writing), this year they won Writing again and also Directing. I’m including Jeremy Strong here because his outfit is everything and also you can see Billy Porter in an amazing custom white suit by Ash Studio.

Uzo Aduba, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her performance of Shirley Chisholm in Mrs. America, was a real highlight. This is her third Emmy, she’s won two for Orange is the New Black. I love how she tried to get her mom to notice that she’d won and she didn’t come. My mom would do that! She would be playing a game on her Kindle. I wish I lived with my mom now.

Julia Garner, who went full flapper, won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for Ozark. This is her second Emmy, also for Ozark. Her husband, singer Mark Foster of Foster the People, just showed up in fancy silk pajamas with a tiger print. That was a whole mood. It bugged me that so many women in this category didn’t show up. The last time I saw an interview with Thandie Newton she was living in London with her family, so I get not coming if you were in Europe and would have had to stay up until 2am.

I’ve rewritten this sentence about nine times. What I want to say is “Watchmen deserved every Emmy it got and more” but that seems to discount the incredible Unbelievable and Unorthodox and others, and look – we just need to accept the fact that there’s too much that’s spectacular. Jessica Mulroney arrives to GMA to help them plan a wedding for one of the viewers

Jessica Mulroney’s life fell apart in June of this year, and it was entirely a disaster of her own making. Jessica got her panties in a twist when Sasha Exeter, a black Canadian Instagram influencer, began using her own platforms to speak about Black Lives Matter. Jessica chose to make Sasha’s BLM activism personally, and Jessica spent several days threatening and harassing Exeter in writing. Sasha outed Jessica for her racism and bullying, Jessica got fired from her jobs and of course it was all a major story. The British tabloids were especially obsessed with the idea that the Duchess of Sussex would cut her friend loose, and then something something, Jessica would sell out Meghan.

In the aftermath of the debacle, there were reports (which I believed) that Jessica and Ben Mulroney hired some PR people and crisis managers, and that they were plotting their comeback even as they fell from grace in Toronto society (a minor fall, honestly, in the grand scheme of things). I also believe that Jessica thought that if she sat out the summer and kept quiet for a few months, maybe she would gently begin reintroducing herself, especially on social media. The problem is that she still comes across like a tone-deaf user? She posted and then deleted a photo from Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding recently, then a week after she deleted it, she made this absolutely insane statement about how tired she is of putting up with “three years” of bullying and hatred. Again, I have no doubt that she’s put up with a lot of sh-t. But considering her fall from grace happened because SHE bullied someone and SHE was racist, well…it was a bit rich. But I guess she still got the go-ahead to use Meghan’s name in her attempted social rehabilitation.

Jessica Mulroney is setting the record straight about her friendship with Meghan Markle. Seemingly addressing rumors that the pair have recently grown apart, the Canadian stylist — who returned to social media last month after being called out for using her white privilege during a disagreement about race with another influencer — posted a brief statement on Friday, which has since been deleted.

“I’m going to tell this once and for all. Meghan and I are family. She is the kindest friend and has checked up on me everyday,” Mulroney wrote on her Instagram Story. “Tabloid culture is atrocious. It creates lies and hurtful storyline. Stop feeding into it. Done.”

[From People]

Of course she deleted it! Honestly… ugh. Where to even start. Let me say this: I think Jessica would be better served if she kept Meghan’s name out of her mouth for several months. Jessica was the one who f–ked up, and she doesn’t need to use her (very famous) “black friend” as a social-rehab prop (especially since she used Meghan as a prop during her bullying of Sasha Exeter). If people are saying lies about Meghan and Jessica’s friendship, so be it. Just let those lies sit out there, because that’s better than using the woman she considers such a close friend. And then after months go by, if Jessica wants to make a statement, just be a f–king adult and make a statement and post it to Instagram and leave it there (with the comments turned off). This ‘gram-and-delete sh-t is so juvenile. Now, has Meghan called Jessica every single day? Hm. I don’t know. I feel like that claim is more about the really deep changes in social power between the two women.

Yesterday afternoon Kaiser and I talked over the phone about our Emmy coverage plan. She was cracking me up so much, as usual (just listen to our podcast), describing how awful it was going to be. I didn’t believe her and thought they might do something fun with it. Also as usual she was right. The Emmys tried to do a regular format with some quarantine twists and they failed miserably, in my opinion. This is NOT the time to do a three hour awards show with dumb jokes, a bunch of filler segments and in-person presenters. If they would have tried to shave even a half hour off I would have been somewhat happy with it, but they did not. It lasted the full three f’ing hours. I live on the east coast, I get up before 5 am and I normally go to bed around 9. If you mess with my bedtime and then try to mock me about it, as Jimmy Kimmel did, I will hold a grudge and deliver that sh-t cold. He said “don’t complain about how long the show is. The Lakers game is over, what else do you have to do? Play Candyland with kids for the 9 thousandth time? We got you right where we want you, you son of a bitch.” Of course Kimmel would make it all about himself.

Just wait Kimmel. How’s that long vacation after your blackface scandal working out for you? Yes Kimmel is good at smack-talking Trump and advocating for healthcare and human rights, but he bugs me so much now.

The Emmys did put some fun twists into the night. They sent out over a hundred camera kits to all the attendee’s houses so we got to see everyone react live as the awards were announced. People in LA and even some in other places, like the Schitt’s Creek team in Toronto (more on them in another post!) got to get their Emmys delivered by people in blow up hazmat-type suits. Apparently these Emmy deliverers showed up to every nominee’s house for some categories, as shown in Ramy Youssef’s tweet:

when you lose the emmy pic.twitter.com/ECkbGcoHBA

— ramy youssef (@ramy) September 21, 2020

That’s cute as hell! Other categories, like Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series, had these box things that would open remotely and dispense confetti and an Emmy if the person won. That was inventive, but this is quarantine Emmys, they could have had a whole team of people cutting live to the celebrities’ homes and having them doing little prearranged segments, like Hugh Jackman baking (he loves baking), Helena Bonham Carter feeding her dogs treats (she did this live I loved it) and celebrities talking about activism. (We needed more of a nod to the times.) Instead, we got the same show as always just without the in-person glamour. There were some celebrities who showed up to present, like Tracee Ellis Ross, but the jokes fell flat and just added to the plodding feel.

Kimmel’s opening monologue, where they tried to make it look real by splicing in sound and audience shots from other Emmys, was creepy as hell. (I counted several years going on the women’s gowns. Sarah Hyland’s and Viola Davis’s shots were from 2017, Regina King’s was from 2018, Rachel Brosnahan’s and Kristen Bell’s were from last year.) It messed with me a lot and revealed so much about their approach to this year’s show. They tried to fit into an old outdated format and expected us to be entertained.

Another highlight were the essential workers presenting awards, like the history teacher and the UPS delivery person. Some were not as successful though.

D-Nice was fun and I really liked H.E.R.’s performance and the in memoriam segment. They ended with Chadwick, as they should have.
