Mick Jagger and his ex-lover Melanie Hamrick have welcomed their child, a little boy. This is Melanie’s first child… and Mick’s eighth child. True story: Mick’s oldest child is 45 years old. And now his youngest child is one day old. Mick and Melanie confirmed they were expecting a kid together in July, and less than a week later, we learned that Mick had basically broken up with Melanie. I don’t think they were even exclusive when they were dating, but once she got pregnant, Mick just wasn’t into it. Thankfully, he’s offering financial support to Melanie and the kid and he’s reportedly already purchased a New York townhouse for Melanie as a sort of “going away” present/child support.

Mick Jagger is a dad again! The Rolling Stones frontman, 73, and his girlfriend, 29-year-old ballerina Melanie Hamrick, welcomed their first child together on Thursday, Dec. 8, his publicist confirms to PEOPLE.

“Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s son was born today in New York and they are both delighted,” a statement from the couple reads. Continues the statement, “Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect their privacy at this time.”

Jagger’s seven other children — Georgia, James, Jade, Elizabeth, Lucas, Karis and Gabriel — range in age from 17 to 45. He also has five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

I find it interesting that he was there, at the hospital, when the kid was born, because I really had my doubts that he even cared enough about Melanie or the kid to even be present for the birth. It might seem like an obvious thing, for the father to be there, but that’s how low I set the bar for Mick. And throughout this whole ordeal, sources have been saying that Mick is actually not a baby person at all. I find that interesting for a guy who literally has eight kids (that we know of). Apparently, he’s only interested in his kids when they are old enough to go to a football game, or old enough to use the bathroom by themselves.

Anyway… yeah. Mick is 73 years old and a father for the eighth time. This year has been crazy.

Nashville returns for its fifth season this January, on new network CMT. Stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere are back, which is good news as there was some question whether either of them would return. Hayden in particular was open about her battle with postpartum depression after her daughter, Kaya, was born in December, 2014. She went to rehab for inpatient treatment for depression this spring. After she got out, Hayden was spotted without her engagement ring, leading to speculation that she was on the outs with her fiance and baby’s father, boxing great Wladimir Klitschko. Hayden tweeted a family photo right around that time very directly denying that they were split. She wrote “Missing rings don’t mean the end of relationships.” Most recently she went to an event with Wladimir, and sources tell People they’re doing well.

“Hayden and Wladimir are in a good place and having a great time raising their daughter,” a Florida source tells PEOPLE of the Ukrainian heavyweight and the Nashville star, who this year had to confront reports of a rift in her relationship.

Add the source: “Her previous problems were never with him. She is doing great, and they are very happy as a couple and family.”

The parents of 2-year-old Kaya attended several Art Basel events with their little girl last week while staying at Klitschko’s oceanfront penthouse condo on Hollywood Beach, where they spent the days enjoying the sun, paddle boarding and beach combing.

They were even photographed making a rare public appearance at the Daily Front Row party, where an attendee tell PEOPLE they “were together and very loving. They were holding hands, his arms were around her while they were watching the beginning of one of the art shows on the ceiling of the [Faena Art Dome on Miami Beach].”

“Hayden loves Wladimir,” an industry source tells PEOPLE of Panettiere, 27, and Klitschko, 40. “They get along best when they are together. It is frustrating when he has to travel around the world for his career while she needs to be here for hers. That is tough on any couple. But they are happy and love their daughter.”

I’m just reporting this because I want to think about good news for a little bit. I want to imagine these two happy and in love, working out whatever issues they had and Hayden recovering well. She deserves so much respect for going public with her battle with depression. It’s not an easy thing to admit that you suffer from it and need to get treatment. A source tells People that “Hayden is doing well and getting her life back.” You go Hayden.

The film Collateral Beauty comes next Friday. I have yet to read a review on it so I have no idea if it’s any good but the cast is stellar. We’ve discussed that the film is about Will Smith’s character suffering a loss so great that his life falls apart. To process his grief, he writes letters to Time, Love and Death who all, presumably, come to see him during the film. I hate to cry so I won’t see a tearjerker unless it is really well praised. In the interviews so far they say the film is great but they’re talking to a star of the movie so what else are they going to say? But they also say that, as sad as the subject is, you walk away from the movie feeling good and like it’s perfect for this time of year. Whether or not it fills you with the holiday spirit, it provided Will with a coping mechanism as his father died from cancer. Will got the script just when his father was diagnosed. On Ellen DeGeneres’ show, Will discussed how doing research on grief and actualizing that on film helped him deal with losing his father.

Will Smith experienced the phenomenon firsthand when he was cast in Collateral Beauty, a film about a father who is devastated by his young daughter’s death. Behind the scenes, the blockbuster star was coping with the loss of his own father, who passed away after a short battle with cancer.

“You’re playing a guy that’s experienced a loss and your dad—you just lost your dad,” Ellen DeGeneres broached the topic with the actor on her daytime talk show Thursday.

“Yeah. What was really interesting is I got the screenplay right when my father was diagnosed. You know, so I have the screenplay and I’m doing all of this research about a guy who experiences death you know at the time my father was given six weeks,” Smith recalled.

“My father and I were sharing it during that time so, you know, the performance for me, and the movie for me, and the ideas are so deeply personal,” he continued.

While the loss of a parent can be a tragic time, the star reflected on the month leading up to his death with fondness.

“My father, he actually he lived for four months beyond that point they gave him six weeks and what happened is everyday became so beautiful beyond the six weeks. You know, and then we were sitting one day and it was at about three months and he was like, ‘Man this crap is embarrassing.’ I said,’What dad?’ He said, ‘Man, you tell everyone you’re going to die in six weeks and three months later…’”

[From E! Online]

You can watch the clip here. I agree with CB about Will being engaging. I have yet to see an interview of his I don’t enjoy. He told Ellen that his father passed only a month ago and yet, at no point during the segment did I feel anything but uplifted by Will’s experience. He was able to covey the beauty in being allowed to process that time by being fully present in body and mind.

Dammit, I’m going to see this movie, aren’t I?

My favorite part of the interview is the last bit about his father lamenting outliving his prognosis. That’s exactly what my father would say. I guess we see where Will gets his humor. Speaking of Will’s humor, he and Ellen get into an argument over whether he has a lion in his backyard. It’s funny both because it’s Will but also because he is convinced he has an African lion living outside his bedroom and then defends the cost of lion urine. Seriously, I could watch a feature length Will Smith interview and be wildly entertained. Maybe even more than some of his movies.

Here is Will filming his new movie, the reason for his ‘stache

Yesterday I wrote about Cruz Beckham, and shortly after David posted a video of Cruz hearing his song on the radio for the first time. I have no comment on the song – it’s a child singing, what is there to say? I’m much more interested in the fact that David is a “wooooooooo” guy.
