It’s sad that Black Panther didn’t win any Golden Globes. It feels like the awards shows have just decided that Black Panther is going to be nominated for all of the “Best Picture” awards, but it won’t actually win anything. We’re past the moment when a film as significant as Black Panther can just be nominated and everyone’s happy with that though. It’s especially galling that on the same night Black Panther was ignored, the HFPA gave a bunch of Golden Globes to that white savior bulls–t Green Book.

The main people of Black Panther came out for the Globes: Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, and writer/director Ryan Coogler. I don’t think Chadwick walked the carpet, but Lupita, MBJ, Danai and Ryan all walked and posed together. Lupita wore an absolutely stunning custom Calvin Klein gown which shimmered whenever she moved. Danai wore a Rodarte gown which is basically the fire emoji come to life. Also: Lupita and MBJ seem very touchy-feely with each other. I have to ask again: are they just flirty friends, or is there something there?

Is Chrissy Metz calling Alison Brie a “bitch” on a hot mic the new “did Grover say the F word” controversy? (I can still hear that Grover video either way!) In this case you can’t fully hear what Chrissy is saying though. This was streamed on Facebook live, and it’s Chrissy giving commentary on Alison when the camera cutaway and she presumably didn’t know her mic was still on. Some people think she’s saying “she’s such a bitch.” You can listen to that below, but it cuts off right before the word is completed.

So Chrissy could be saying “she’s such a b-ig star” or something like that! It does sound like she’s calling her a bitch, but you can’t actually hear the end of the sentence, at least in the clips I found. In fact Chrissy told People Magazine that she said “oh boy, I love her!” She also tweeted that the story was fake. A couple of people tweeted that they heard “she’s so sweet.”

“I’m so distraught and upset,” the This Is Us actress said.

“I don’t speak about anyone like that I don’t speak like that. I love Alison, I follow her,” Metz shared. “When I was walking up they said, ‘Do you know Alison,’ and I said, ‘Oh boy, do I.’ I love her.”

In a statement, a rep for Metz also said: “Chrissy never said that. She would never say that about anybody. She’s a huge fan and friend of Alison Brie. Chrissy has nothing but admiration and respect for Alison and, frankly, every fellow actor who must wade through this much-too-common attempt to create a feud among colleagues.”

Alison Brie shared a photo with Chrissy from the SAG Awards last year on her IG stories and wrote “nothing but love,” so they’re all good! I believe Chrissy, her explanation sounds reasonable and it’s very easy to mishear things. I can still hear Grover saying “f’ing” if I assume that’s what he’s saying. This is probably a similar case.

Alison Brie was in a custom Vera Wang dress with a black bandeau bra adorned with different-sized pearls and a baby blue sheer overlay with a long voluminous skirt. It’s interesting, I’ll give it that. I really liked the skirt part. She was nominated for Actress in a TV series, for GLOW, which went to Rachel Brosnahan.

I’m including a couple of other actresses in Vera Wang last night as we need to keep cranking out the fashion! Here’s Taraji P Henson in green velvet. I’m not into the top of this dress and find it too revealing. It has such potential though. Constance Wu is pulling off this nude colored Wang with the red-orange bow. It’s borderline fug with that lingerie look top and the tulle skirt but she’s a fashion girl and she’s owning it.

Taylor Swift has a tortured history with the Golden Globes. She was once nominated, and she lost, and she never loses awards. She turned up to the show once and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a few jokes at her expense, which is the first time Taylor had ever been the butt of a joke before and she threw a hissy fit about it for months afterward. But 2019 is a whole new Snake, and Joe Alwyn’s film, The Favourite, is an Oscar contender. So Taylor decided to come out and present a few awards with Idris Elba. She didn’t walk the Globes red carpet, nor does it look like she posed for photos backstage. But she attend the Warner Bros/InStyle post-Globes party and she even walked the carpet!

Taylor stayed in the same curve-hugging Versace gown for all of the night’s activities. This dress is great, and her body looks amazing in it. I think it’s a combination of things – she’s gained some weight and it looks wonderful on her. I also think she got her breast implants redone, because they look bigger and less bolted-on now? I also think it’s possible she got butt implants. Still, I feel like Taylor’s hair is throwing off the whole look. The hair says “country music awards” but the dress says “Golden Globes presenter.”

We expect wackiness and interesting looks from Janelle Monáe at this point. But was I alone in thinking that the main part of her Chanel ensemble was just… a solid look? It was the gold hat that made everything weird. Sans hat, she would have just looked really cute and sophisticated. As for the hat… why is sitting so high on her head? Why am I hungry for Ferrero Rocher now?

Lucy Liu in Galia Lahav. I love her and I love Elementary, and I was sad when she talked about shooting the last episodes of the show. People really should have watched it, it was SO good. Anyway, Lucy just looked bizarre. She’s lightened her hair, and her dress was not great.

I saw Green Book over the holidays because I had a come-to-Jesus moment that despite the warnings and controversies, Hollywood was still going to give awards to this fakakta film. I was right. I was right about all of it. I was right about the film being bad, and I was right about Hollywood falling all over itself to reward this white savior bulls–t. Just in the past month, multiple critics and analysts have detailed why the film is terrible, and then Viggo Mortensen and Peter Farrelly doubled-down by literally silencing black voices to declare that they knew and understood a black man’s experience better.

Well, at the Golden Globes last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to give Green Book as many awards as possible. Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor. Green Book won Best Screenplay AND Best Picture, Musical/Comedy. For whatever record, Mahershala does what he can with this role, and I’m choosing to believe that his talent and humanity comes through the terrible white-savior script. But I’m starting to get a pit at the bottom of my stomach about Green Book, that it will be this year’s Three Billboards. By that I mean, Hollywood is all too eager to give awards to films where white racists are the heroes, where they’re “saved” and given all of the humanity. Green Book is All Lives Matter: The Movie.

Do you remember how hot Jamie Lee Curtis looked at the Halloween premiere this fall? (God I loved that movie.) Here’s a link to those photos. She had on a menswear-inspired look showing lots of cleavage and her hair was spiky short and cute.

Last night a lot of people loved Jamie Lee Curtis’ look, particularly her silver hair. The color was amazing but there was something off about the way it was styled and her makeup was wrong. Jamie told Access Hollywood that she bought this white McQueen dress three months ago before she knew her plans. It’s a gorgeous white gown, I love how sleek it is and the silver diamond across the front is so cool, but this is an example of how styling makes all the difference. Her coloring is off, her eye makeup is too dark and her lips are too nude plus she needs to do something different with her hair. I’m sorry for criticizing this queen but I know how much better she can look!

Nominee Connie Britton was also in white, in a Christian Siriano strapless gown featuring silver beading in a delicate diamond striped pattern. She lost in the Actress in a Limited Series category to Patricia Arquette, who won for Escape at Dannemora. I really liked her look, it’s safe but kind of perfect for the evening. I have Dirty John on my DVR waiting for me! I listened to the podcast over the holiday and was enthralled.

Speaking of Patricia Arquette, she was in Vivienne Westwood and she looked incredible. During her acceptance speech she put on a pair of bedazzled reading glasses and now I want some. (I wear bifocal contact lenses now, I don’t quite need reading glasses, but give it a few months.)

Allison Janney was also in McQueen. She looked a little high to me when she was presenting with Sam Rockwell. Maybe she was just imbibing a bit, that seems to be common at The Globes. This gown is amazing, I love the draping and how it fits her like a glove.
