Everyone thinks I was inspired by the princesses. If they only knew…

Blake Lively heard your “Disney princess” jokes and this is her response. Yes, Blake may have dressed up like Cinderella-with-an-Oakland-Booty at the Cannes Film Festival, but she wants us to think that her real style inspo was “Disney villain.” Sure, Jan. Anyway, Blake is still endlessly posting photos from her magical Cannes tour, so why not discuss this interview she did with Vogue UK while in Cannes? I sort of missed this last week because of Oakland Booty-gate, but it’s worth discussing now. You can read her full interview here. Some highlights:

She wishes she could travel with all of her L’Oreal products: “You know, I feel like TSA makes it really hard to have good beauty when you travel, because of the whole restriction thing. All the stuff I love – my pots of creams, my shampoos, my conditioners and all that, you have to put them in the little containers and hope the containers don’t explode… So I’m going to petition for L’Oréal to make an Extraordinary Oil that is travel-sized. They should do a full travel-sized version of everything. I feel like TSA is really C-blocking it, I don’t understand.”

What it’s like to walk the Cannes red carpet: “It’s neat, because I’ve had three very different experiences on the Cannes red carpet. As a L’Oréal ambassador it’s really about celebrating the glamour of Cannes, and it feels cinematic and like a fashion and beauty moment. They clear the carpet, which is unique – you never have another red carpet where it’s just the one person standing there. It’s actually incredibly intimidating! Then I’ve been there with my husband two years ago, which was so special. He actually broke a Cannes rule, and snuck away from the rest of his cast and came back and picked me up so we got to walk the red carpet together. To be there at Cannes with him, thinking: “Wow he has a film at the Cannes Film Festival – what a big deal” was so special. And then this year I had a film there myself, and standing there alongside Kristen and Jesse and Corey and Woody and presenting this film we all made together… it’s a very full-circle moment.”

She has done her own hair & makeup for red carpets before:
“I’ve done my own hair and make-up for the red carpet before but either it’s because it’s for a last-minute event, or because I forgot to call someone… it’s never a good idea! But I do get very involved in the hair and make-up I wear because, I mean, it’s my face! I work with people that are such great artists that if I think I have an idea about something we can spitball and make it better. I am oftentimes involved in the design of the gown if it’s for a big event, so from the inception and from sketches I’m already thinking what hair, what make-up, what jewellery.”

The “Because I’m Worth It” slogan: “We’re used to hearing these slogans from companies and so they’ve lost their meaning in a way, but women are worth it. Why the bleep not? It doesn’t just apply to make-up, it applies to everything. The instillment of self-worth in women is so important and you see that in the women they choose. I mean, Jane Fonda. I mean, I don’t know any woman alive – except maybe Gloria Steinem – who has done more for women politically and socially than Jane Fonda. You look at Susan Sarandon, who’s just new to the brand this year, and you see how impactful she is. And then you look at the younger women they’re hiring too, like Karlie Kloss who’s started a company that manages to feed starving children at the same time as make really yummy cute cookies. They’re incredibly iconic, it’s not just a bunch of 16-year-old models they’re hiring to put on blue eyeshadow.”

I love that Blake name-checked Karlie Kloss because I’ve always sort of felt like Karlie hijacked Blake’s shtick a few years back. Remember when Blake was “the good girl” who just loved fashion and loved to cook and bake? That became a template and Karlie used it too. I actually agree with Blake that it’s nice that L’Oreal isn’t just repped by 16-year-olds shilling eyeshadow, although to be fair… there were a hell of a lot of young models in Cannes working as L’Oreal ambassadors.

I rolled my eyes at this though: “He actually broke a Cannes rule, and snuck away from the rest of his cast and came back and picked me up so we got to walk the red carpet together.” Yes, Blake. No other couple has ever done that before! Brangelina wannabe.
