In a red carpet interview I saw yesterday, Jennifer Garner was asked how she balances everything and she said “time management.” That’s surely true and she does a lot, but I was hoping she would acknowledge her staff and I thought “well she doesn’t have a full time job.” I don’t blame her for answering that way, but I often think about how lucky I am to have flexible hours and work from home. I can get things done around the house and make adjustments for last minute schedule changes. I can only vaguely remember what it’s like to work outside my house for eight hours a day. Add in a commute and is must be incredibly difficult to maintain a work life balance, especially for single moms.

That’s why I wanted to give Celine Dion credit for acknowledging that she may do a lot but she doesn’t have it harder than the average person. Celine is promoting her new gender neutral children’s clothing line with NUNUNU. I got such a kick out of watching her interview with HLN because she is INTENSE. She passionately believes in letting kids wear what they want and to let them subvert gender stereotypes and she is dead serious about it. She’s also very much like Iman in remembering and honoring her late husband, saying that she is still in love with him and that he lives on in her kids. She’s a powerhouse and I admire her. You can see the videos in three parts on facebook, one is embedded below. Here are the highlights of what she said.

On letting kids be who they want
Let [kids] tell you what they feel like. You know what, you don’t know what [kids] are gonna become later. You don’t want them to have a [psychological] problem of growth. Let people be who they are as quick and as soon as possible.

“How do you juggle being a single mom and performing four times a week?”
The best way I can. Most people work five day a week nine to five. I feel myself very fortunate that first of all I do what I love. Sometimes it makes me happy, sometimes it makes me sad because I do sing a lot of love songs and love hurts.

On her husband’s death
Before he passed away I died first. It was hard to see him die a little bit every day. Sometimes I ask myself ‘Do you think it would have been easier, an accident and no goodbyes?’ You don’t know that. My husband still lives with me. I see him every day through the eyes of my children. He’s alive, he doesn’t suffer.

“Could you ever open yourself up to love again?”
I am in love. I am very much in love. I had my husband.

HLN’s Robin Meade asked if Celine would be putting out another English language album now that her residency is set to end next year. She said that she’s in the process of making one and that it should be out at the end of this year or the beginning of 2019! She hasn’t had an English album out since 2013 so this is big news and I bet it will be a hit for her. Celine’s music is cheesy and it’s not really my genre, but I appreciate her so much. She wears her heart on her sleeve and she has such a big personality. Plus I like how she acknowledges that she doesn’t have it harder than regular working people. That’s rare for celebrities and performers to do.

Here’s one of the videos and there are two more on Facebook.
