It’s trailer week: there’s Cats (so many cats!) and Top Gun, but the one I’ve watched the most is Hustlers. This is a huge career moment for Lili Reinhart and Riverdale’s buzz has dropped considerably, so I wonder how ready everyone is to move on. Until then, there’s lots of time on set to hang out….

Richard Madden keeps a low profile as he is seen leaving with a mystery guy in West Hollywood!

When the Emmy nominations came out this week, people talked about how Richard Madden was “snubbed” for Best Actor for Bodyguard. Bodyguard was nominated for Best Drama, but Madden was snubbed, even though he was widely acclaimed and loved in that role. Madden has been everywhere this year with Bodyguard, and with his role in Rocketman, where he played John Reid, Elton John’s manager and lover.

What’s my point? I don’t know, I think it’s strange that Madden didn’t get an Emmy nomination, and I halfway wonder if the Television Academy is snubbing him personally because he isn’t talking much about his personal life. For months now, Madden has been “pulling a Kristen Stewart,” which is to say… Madden is not discussing his sexuality publicly, but he’s not hiding anything either. He’s been photographed in New York and LA with Brandon Flynn, who is often described as a “roommate” or “friend.” It definitely feels like they’re together though. And it definitely feels like Richard Madden is bisexual, because he’s previously been in romantic relationships with high-profile women too.

Richard and Brandon were photographed together yet again this week out in West Hollywood, maybe the gym? They seemed to be attempting a low-key vibe. One photo agency even called Brandon a “mystery guy,” even though Richard and Brandon have been photographed together so much this year. So… I guess this story is “Brandon and Richard are still together, they were out in West Hollywood after Madden was snubbed for an Emmy nomination.” Let’s go with that.

Lori Loughlin: Just a girl who decided to go for it!

We haven’t talked about Lori Loughlin in a while, so I’m glad that Us Weekly is providing us with a little reminder that she’s still around and still a delusional piece of trash ensconced in white privilege. For months, we’ve heard Lori and her team testing out various legal/PR strategies for how Lori and Mossimo Giannulli are going to beat the federal charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, all to get their dumb daughters into college. The general vibe on Lori’s defense is that she’s very “faith-based” and she just loves her daughters so much and she would do anything for them and she didn’t even know what she was doing was illegal, okay? Which might work in California courtroom, but this is a federal case and the trial will be in Boston. I just feel like Lori isn’t really getting the best legal counsel. Anyway, here’s the reminder:

The nationwide college admissions scandal may have simmered down in the news, but Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are still working hard behind the scenes to clear their names.

“They believe they’ll be exonerated,” a source says exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, adding that the couple are “actively engaged in their defense.”

The Full House alum, 54, and the fashion designer, 56, were among the 51 people who were indicted in March for their alleged involvement in the bribery scam. The parents of Bella, 20, and Olivia Jade, 19, were accused of paying $500,000 to have their daughters designated as University of Southern California crew team recruits — despite their inexperience in the sport — so they would be accepted into the school.

The source tells Us that the actress and the Mossimo founder “won’t even talk about taking any type of” plea bargain in the Operation Varsity Blues case, which will likely go to trial in early 2020.

So there you go. Even after months have passed and additional charges have been added and legal strategies have been aired in People Magazine, Lori Loughlin still believes her wealth and churchy persona have insulated her from any real consequences. What scares me still is that she may be right. By the time the trial goes down next year, I worry that most of the gossip outlets and news outlets will have already moved on completely to other stories. So Lori will get to prance into court holding a Bible and cry her tears and she will end up completely exonerated.

The last time I saw Shirley MacLaine perform, it was on Downton Abbey. She played Martha Levinson, mother of Cora, Countess of Grantham. She was the perfect foil for the Dowager Countess, played by Maggie Smith. I loved watching the two actresses volley back and forth. I just checked Wikipedia; at the moment Shirley is not listed as being in the movie (which doesn’t surprise me), but it would be great if Martha popped up again. No matter, though, as Shirley has told People that she doesn’t intend to stop acting, so she’ll appear in something else soon enough:

Shirley MacLaine might be working less than she used to in her heyday, but the actress, 85, tells PEOPLE in the latest issue that she has no intentions of ever retiring.

“I don’t want to quit acting — I really don’t,” she says. “Even at my age, I have four pictures to do next year. I think [some] costars are surprised I’m still walking upright.”

The Oscar winner, whose classic Steel Magnolias, turns 30 this year, says working keeps her “bright.”

“I learn so much about what I don’t really know every time I’m on a movie,” she says.

She continues, “I look back at the wonderful parts I’ve had the honor to play, and I’m thinking about the future, and I want to be a spokesperson for older-women — probably because I’m one.”

Since breaking onto the scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 black comedy The Trouble with Harry, MacLaine hasn’t let up. She’s acted in more than 50 films over the course of her legendary career in Hollywood, resulting in an Academy Award win for 1983’s Terms of Endearment, six Oscar nominations, and a Kennedy Center Honor. MacLaine, who’s sister to Warren Beatty, has also written 10 bestselling books, including the 2016 memoir Above the Line, in which she detailed her belief in reincarnation. And she had a daughter, Sachi, 62, from her 28-year marriage to producer Steve Parker.

Guarding Tess, in which Shirley plays Tess Carlisle, a former first lady, who gives her Secret Service detail a run for its money, is a movie that I’ve always loved. I’m thankful that Shirley has no plans to retire (though, of course, I think that if she changes her mind tomorrow, she’s more than deserving of a relaxing retirement). I also really appreciate that she talks about continuing to do movies in part because they help her stay “bright,” and that she keeps learning from each experience. Her curiosity is a great message that it’s possible to always learn something from/about your work, even if you’ve been in the same field for several decades.

I also think it’s fantastic that she wants to be a spokesperson for older women, who are still being overlooked, both inside and outside of Hollywood. Her comment reminds me a bit of some of the things that Emma Thompson has said lately about speaking up for women’s rights and attempting to make her film sets more supportive and safe for women. That is, I’m so grateful, especially in the current climate, that powerful actresses are centering women in their comments about the industry and outside of it. I’d love to see Emma and Shirley team up in a movie about two best friends on a road trip. Maybe they could go visit Maggie Smith and Julie Walters (two other actresses whom I also adore). I also want to read all of Shirley’s books: I didn’t realize that she’d written so many!

If I was only allowed to wear one clothing brand for the rest of my life it would hands down be The Reformation. Not even a stutter on the decision. From their playful dresses to their dope shoe line to good God, have you seen their wedding and party section?!? There is rarely something I don’t want…
