Kendall Jenner in attendance for Longcha...

Here are some photos of Kendall Jenner wearing a cute purple dress for an event for Longchamp. Kendall has been in New York for about a week, preparing for New York Fashion Week and attending events. That’s what I wrote last week, when we discussed that bizarre Page Six item about Kendall making out with Anwar Hadid – I thought Kendall was actually going to be working some runways for NYFW. She is not. According to Vogue, Kendall is “taking this season off.”

Kendall Jenner is in New York for Fashion Week, but the model is taking this season off and making the social rounds, instead. Jenner made a few stops last night—appearing on the Tonight Show in Tom Ford, popping by Russell James’s book party alongside Cindy Crawford.

[From Vogue]

That Vogue piece was about her outfit, but this is the first I’m hearing about Kendall taking the season off. She’s basically just in New York to attend parties and promotional events. She’s not going to put one foot on the runway. So here’s my question: was this Kendall’s choice or nah? Remember, Kendall created a recent controversy when she discussed working runway models, telling Love Magazine: “Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f–k those girls do. More power to ‘em.” Kendall’s comments were seen as snide and elitist towards the young models who *have* to do runway work because that’s their job. Models widely criticized Kendall and her dumb non-apology didn’t do anything. So did designers refuse to hire Kendall this season or did she say no to designers? I bet it was a little of Column A, a little of Column B.

A post shared by Good Housekeeping (@goodhousekeeping) on Sep 6, 2018 at 6:25am PDT

The delightful Jamie Lee Curtis is on the cover of Good Housekeeping‘s October issue where she shared advice on growing old gracefully and the key to a happy marriage. Jamie is married to Spinal Tap and Best in Show creator Christopher Guest and I want to have a dinner party with them as soon as possible.

Jamie is returning to the franchise that first brought her notoriety, 1978?s horror classic Halloween, as Laurie Strode in the “official” sequel. The new film has gotten mostly positive ratings from critics and will hopefully make us all forget Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (although, I doubt that). She’s 59 and, refreshingly in Hollywood, has rejected cosmetic surgery and is the epitome of aging gracefully. Here are some highlights from the interview:

On her life philosophy, “If not now, when?”:
“On the very clear passage of 50s to 60s, I have no time to waste. None. If you have creative ideas and you don’t bring them out into the world in some way before you go, that is a tragedy.”

On the power of doing it yourself:
“I like to invent things, and I like elbow grease. I wash my own car — why have other people do it while I sit on a bench watching them? I want sweat equity. I want it in my mothering, I want it in my marital-ing, I want it in my family-ing, I want it in my friend-ing. You tell me you’re moving, I will show up on moving day. There will be a point where I want to relax and not worry so much about my sweat equity — when I’ve earned my rest.”

On her 2002, makeup-free More photoshoot:
“It was an attempt at saying, ‘I struggle with my own self-esteem,’ I live a very quiet, private life. I do not do this [poses dramatically] in my daily life. People like Meryl Streep can put on any white shirt and we all go, ‘Ahhh, look how gorgeous!’ I’ve never been a comfortable cover girl, but the girl in those photos took off her clothes and stood there, letting her tummy relax. I was free.”

On marrying her opposite:
We have been for 33 years, and we always will be. He’s an intellectual, and I was from the movie star/alcoholic/drug addict side, where education was not the most important thing. We don’t listen to the same radio station, we don’t read the same paper, we don’t go to bed at the same time. But we read the same history books….We’re a little nerdy.”

On her self-image:
“I am a constant editor. I shed people, I shed clothing, I shed possessions, I shed ideas. The biggest thing I’ve shed is my own limitations and perception of who I am. How can I expect my agent to think of me in a different way if I don’t think of me in a different way? Is he going to wake up and say, ‘That Jamie Lee is smart — she should write a screenplay’? Not going to happen! It has to come from me. And even if I stumble in my pursuit, that’s OK. We are all looking for a fast track to enlightenment, but it’s sweat equity, sweat equity, sweat equity.”

Why she avoids the mirror:
“I don’t know if men wake up, look in the mirror and hate themselves. Most women do. So I have a big secret: I don’t look in the mirror. I’m a 60-year-old woman. I am not going to look the same as I used to, and I don’t want to be confronted by that every day! When I get out of the shower, I have a choice: I can dry myself off looking in the mirror, or I can dry myself off with my back to it. I turn my back to the mirror, and I feel great! I don’t want women to hate themselves, because I think women are extraordinary.”

[From Good Housekeeping]

I’ve always liked Jamie for her no-nonsense attitude and the fact that she seems to not care what anyone thinks. Who else would go out and promote yogurt that helps you poop? She also looks amazing as she owns every wrinkle and grey hair. Jamie was (somewhat obviously) the best thing about Scream Queens and I hope Halloween reminds Hollywood that she’s still a force to be reckoned with.

US Open 2018 Women's Finals *** NO NY NEWSPAPERS***

I’m still thinking about the US Open women’s final and the massive controversy still reverberating throughout the tennis world. I’ve worked it out – the issue with Serena Williams and Carlos Ramos is the “Permit Patty” of the tennis world. It was written on the biggest tennis stage in the world, for everyone to see. Technically, Umpire Carlos Ramos was simply “enforcing the rules,” going with the very letter of violation-law in place for Grand Slams. But what happened to Serena was about a lot more than one player violating the “sacred” code of conduct and one umpire deciding to enforce the rules. It was about race and sex, it was about how a black woman was “policed” more than any man would have been, and it was about the UNWRITTEN rule that the umpire shouldn’t be the centerpiece of a Grand Slam final. In a final, the umpire is supposed to give more leeway. In a final, the umpire has more discretion to give a “soft warning,” to de-escalate situations with players.

Incidentally, this is the same tournament where, in an early round, an umpire left his chair to literally give a male player a pep talk, which was absolutely on-court coaching. This is the same tournament where the USTA has been making rules up on the fly about which players can leave the court in the heat and which players can’t. I’ve been watching so much of the tournament, and let me tell you something else – so many players, male and female, get coached from their boxes. Besides the coaching issue, the thing that sticks out to me still is that… calling someone a “thief” and a “liar” should not be a violation, especially in a Slam final. Serena was upset. She lost her temper. Carlos Ramos could have easily talked to her, and given her a soft warning (with no penalty) and told her that if she didn’t calm down, he would give her another violation. He didn’t do that. And some people even thought Carlos Ramos was baiting her or goading her:

Serena is right. I was there. And worse, he was baiting her. https://t.co/CinW6AJJNo

— shonda rhimes (@shondarhimes) September 8, 2018

So how did Serena feel after the match? She came to her post-match press conference like a professional and fielded inane questions about “what she would tell her daughter” about what happened. Stick around for the end:

Serena spoke about her history at this specific tournament, the US Open, where in 2004, she was the victim of such horrible line calls that every Slam from then on instituted the hawkeye and challenge system. She also referenced the 2009 US Open, where she was defaulted from the semifinal when she got a (bulls–t) foot fault and lost her temper. But the moment of grace and emotion came at the end when Serena was asked, “If you could change one thing about what occurred, what would that be?” Her answer:

“I don’t know. You definitely can’t go back in time. I can’t sit here and say I wouldn’t say he’s a thief, because I thought he took a game from me. But I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things. I’m here fighting for women’s rights and for women’s equality and for all kinds of stuff. For me to say ‘thief’ and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark. He’s never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’.

For me it blows my mind. But I’m going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have equal — like Cornet should be able to take off her shirt without getting a fine. This is outrageous. I just feel like the fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person that has emotions, and that want to express themselves, and want to be a strong woman. They’re going to be allowed to do that because of today. Maybe it didn’t work out for me, but it’s going to work out for the next person.

[Via The US Open]

That’s it in a nutshell – as Jon Wertheim pointed out on Twitter, “The word for the day is ‘precedent.’… We’re now docking players for calling the chair ‘thief’ and ‘liar’? …well, interesting days lie ahead….” That’s exactly it. The next time a player argues a call – a bad call or a justified call – with an umpire and says something like “you’re wrong” or “you’re lying,” will that be a “verbal abuse” violation too? Or will it only be a violation if a black woman says it?

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj at the Harpers Bazaar Event ahead of their alleged fight

I honestly never wanted to cover this Cardi B-Nicki Minaj beef. The beef has been simmering not-so-quietly for months now. My take has been, from the beginning, that Nicki Minaj isn’t really relevant anymore and that she’s been doing everything but light herself on fire to get attention. She’s been spilling dumb tea on ex-boyfriends, she’s been talking graphically about sex, she’s been on social media 24-7 and on and on. She’s been goading Cardi B, trying to get Cardi to pay attention to her or engage her in some kind of something. Cardi B has mostly refused to take the bait, although yes, there has been some lower-key shadiness, especially around the VMAs. Well, Minaj got her wish – Cardi engaged with her nonsense. The two women attended the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS event during NYFW. The event was Friday night, and the photos in this post are from before all the sh-t went down. Cardi left the event bruised and battered, her clothes in shreds. Personally, I think Minaj looked wasted before she even got to the event. So what happened? From People:

The feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B just turned physical. On Friday night, the rappers got into a fight at the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party that left Cardi bruised, a source confirms to PEOPLE. The bash was part of the festivities for New York Fashion Week. An insider tells PEOPLE that Cardi arrived at the event first. After Nicki showed up, there was an “altercation” on the second-floor balcony during a Christina Aguilera performance.

“The scene was f—— crazy,” the insider tells PEOPLE. “It was entourage against entourage. They had their altercation on the second-floor balcony, right above the red carpet. All of the sudden there was a big commotion and everyone didn’t know what was going on.”

Immediately following the incident, Cardi was escorted out by security while Nicki stayed inside. Cardi was seen leaving the party with a large lump on her forehead but no shoes.

“She left barefoot with her dress ripped and butt out,” source said. Cardi was wearing a red Dolce & Gabbana gown. In another video obtained by Cosmopolitan, Cardi can be seen removing her shoe as she repeatedly screams, “I will f— you up!”

Cardi is then seen throwing her shoe before she is dragged away while yelling that people were talking about her daughter. An NYPD Public Information Officer confirmed to PEOPLE that there have been no arrests at this point and officials are still on the scene, noting that while the “incident itself has ended, the investigation is still ongoing.”

[From People]

After the incident, Cardi wrote an Instagram post where she detailed all of the stuff Minaj had been doing which Cardi had let slide. Cardi argues that she went to Minaj in person twice and both times Minaj “copped a plea,” but at the ICONS event, Minaj “choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter.” And that’s what set this off, according to Cardi. I believe her. I believe that Minaj really was that desperate to create a beef with Cardi that Minaj decided to say something about poor baby Kulture. Anyway… Team Cardi.

2018 Toronto International Film Festival - 'Homecoming' - Premiere

This weekend, the Venice Film Festival was winding down as the Toronto International Film Festival was just getting going. So these are photos from the mountain of TIFF premieres from the past three days. Julia Roberts was doing double-duty this weekend, promoting both Homecoming and Ben Is Back. Julia is back! Or something. This is her premiere look for Homecoming – a Givenchy tuxedo jumpsuit, with some kind of cape? It’s not my favorite thing, but she looks mostly good here. I wish she – and Nicole Kidman – would stop with this too-light strawberry-blonde shade though.

Julia wore Dsquared2 to the Ben Is Back premiere. She’s lost weight. I like the subtle cutouts.

Natalie Portman in Christian Dior Haute Couture at the TIFF premiere of Vox Lux. This gown is actually prettier than this photo – it was surprisingly dramatic in natural light, and it’s an enchanting shade of pale lilac.

Lord, I can’t wait to see The Hate U Give. It looks incredible. Amandla Stenberg wore Gucci to the TIFF premiere – this dress is not the best, but she’s young and having fun with fashion, so I’m okay with it.

Elle Fanning in Valentino at the Teen Spirit premiere. I love the idea of this more than the execution – I would have not made the neckline so deep, and I would have streamlined the dress a bit so she didn’t look swallowed up in it. But it’s an interesting dress.

I hoped to write about Serena Williams winning her long-awaited 24th singles Slam title. But that didn’t happen – she was beaten by Naomi Osaka, a young woman who plays a lot like a younger version of Serena. If Osaka’s victory had been a straight-forward win, of course it would have been notable and widely discussed. But as it turns out, the actual tennis match was not what people will remember. They’ll remember the name Carlos Ramos, who was the umpire on the match. He gave Serena her first violation (a warning) because Serena’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou was “coaching” her from the box. WTA players can have on-court coaching during WTA events but not during Slams. Patrick was making a motion to Serena to tell her to move in to net, and Carlos Ramos saw Patrick do that. What no one is sure about is whether Serena actually saw or understood Patrick’s coaching. Which is why she reacted this way to the first warning:

“I don’t cheat to win. I’d rather lose.”

—Serena to the chair umpire after receiving a coaching violation pic.twitter.com/v6Q2GWYYOn

— espnW (@espnW) September 8, 2018

I think Serena is saying that she saw Patrick give her a thumbs up, and considering the distance from where she was standing to her box, that’s a possibility. And Serena’s argument was that a thumbs-up is not coaching. Except he was. This was Patrick’s coaching:

Coaching or not ?#usopen pic.twitter.com/OATS0LE2Y2

— Ashish TV Slams (@ashishtvslams) September 8, 2018

After the match, Patrick admitted that he was coaching and that ALL coaches coach their players during Slams and he even name-checked certain players, like Rafa Nadal:

Serena’s coach says that a penalty for coaching during play is hypocritical because every coach does it. pic.twitter.com/AvU3TnKUIH

— ESPN (@espn) September 8, 2018

But, as I said, there was no point violation or anything there, it was just a warning. Then after Serena dropped the first set, she broke her racquet. Second violation. It comes with a point penalty. After that, Serena got really angry and she argued with Carlos Ramos even more and she invoked her daughter and said that of course she wouldn’t cheat, because she was still caught up in the fact that he gave her the first warning for coaching. In her mind, the racquet break should have been her first violation.

She was still mad about it during a second set changeover, where she and Carlos Ramos argued. She called him a “liar” and a “thief” for the point penalty. And that’s when he gave her a third violation for “verbal abuse” and a GAME penalty, meaning the match was almost over. Serena completely lost her cool then – she was crying, she called for the supervisor, and here’s part of what happened:

Serena Williams: “There’s a lot of men out here that have said a lot of things and because they’re a man, that doesn’t happen to them.” (via ESPN) pic.twitter.com/9MqhnAja20

— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) September 8, 2018

This is where I was completely behind Serena – you can argue the finer points of coaching and all of that, but to be given a “verbal abuse” code violation for merely venting – in perhaps justifiable anger – that the umpire is a “thief” is NOT VERBAL ABUSE. Serena is absolutely right when she said it was sexism and that men are allowed to get away with saying a lot worse on-court without getting any violations. She didn’t use profanity, she didn’t call him an obscene name. She called him a thief because he gave her a point violation which she did not think it was fair.

So from there, everything was a blur of absolute shambles. Few people in the crowd understood what was happening. Osaka won the match in the next few minutes and people booed her (this poor girl). Serena gave her a big hug and then Serena refused to shake hands with Carlos Ramos, telling him again that he needed to apologize to her.

The trophy presentation was rough too. The crowd was still booing, Osaka started crying and Serena put her arm around Osaka to comfort her. Serena was in tears too.

A post shared by Derick Dillard (@derickdillard) on Sep 6, 2018 at 2:18pm PDT

Jill and Derick Dillard already have two kids together. The fans would love to hear that another one is on the way for them, but it just hasn’t happened yet. For now, they seem to be enjoying life as a family of four. It wouldn’t be shocking at all if they decided to have another child soon. The Duggars don’t believe in birth control at all and so more than likely they will all have big families like Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar do.

Derick is now very busy going back to school. It looks like he will be getting a traditional job now that he has been fired by TLC. They don’t want Derick on the show Counting On at all after he wouldn’t stop making negative comments about Jazz Jennings and TLC on his Twitter. The fans do miss seeing Jill and Derick on the show, but they do give a lot of updates on their social networks. They also share on their family blog. The fans like to get to know more about them in anyway that they can get the updates.

Are you excited to hear that there is a new baby for the Dillard family? Sound off in the comments section below on your thoughts, and don’t miss new episodes of Counting On when they air on Monday nights on TLC. You won’t be seeing Jill and Derick on the show, but at least you get updates on the rest of the family.

There is quite a buzz about the newest member of the Royal Family, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. The 37-year old who married Prince Harry, 33, on May 19, 2018, appeared side-by-side at the 100 Days of Peace concert in London on Thursday, September 6. The concert commemorated the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Meghan, always glamorous, wore a sleeveless royal blue Jason Wu sheath dress that had pleats in the front where she could easily hide a baby bump. Of course, the rest of her looked absolutely radiant. With her shiny black hair parted on the side and worn long and flowing, the Duchess wore gorgeous matching royal blue sparkly heels and carried a diminutive black clutch.

With the handsome price Harry by her side, wearing a dashing bespoke navy suit, the couple held hands and Harry was spotted sweetly putting his hand on Meghan’s lower back throughout the evening.

The Duke and Duchess have always been very open about wanting kids. During various interviews when he was a bachelor, Harry expressed his desire for a family but often said he was just waiting for the right person to do the job!

The former actress and Suits star also openly talked with the press about having children. In 2015, she reported that she would love to have a daughter someday.

Since their fabulous wedding in May, Meghan and Harry have been seen traveling quite a bit. They are about to embark on their first royal tour, which will start in Sydney, Australia toward the end of October to open the Invictus Games. From there, the couple plans to visit other Commonwealth nations, including New Zealand, Fiji, and the Kingdom of Tonga.

With this extensive travel schedule, there are sure to be many photo opportunities for the couple and perhaps all of us will be able to see Meghan’s growing bump! We certainly hope so!
