The Georgia special election is on January 5th, a little more than a month away. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock have been asking Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to come down to Georgia and help them campaign a bit, and I bet Kamala gets sent down there. The Georgia GOP also wants Donald Trump to come down and campaign for their two corrupt AF senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. Trump is tentatively scheduled to go to Georgia this weekend, but considering how salty and tantrumy he still is about Georgia voting for Joe Biden, I feel like he might pull out. He also won’t shut up about his dumb conspiracies involving hacked voting machines and “massive dumps” of Democratic votes. All of which has led to Georgia Republicans believing like their votes won’t count, so why should they even bother showing up for the special election? They badgered GOP chairwoman Ronna McDaniel about this over the weekend:

Yes, this is all the last gasp of the Trump era: he sowed division and baseless conspiracies for years, and now his millions of supporters hang on his every word and every tweet, and they only believe what comes from him. Which means that everything is all about Trump:

“The president has basically taken hostage this race,” said Brendan Buck, once a top adviser to former House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Especially fraught are Trump’s continued attacks on Georgia’s Republican state officials and the state’s election system, potentially taking away from his public praise of Loeffler and Perdue.

“Trump’s comments are damaging the Republican brand,” argued Republican donor Dan Eberhart, who added that the president is “acting in bad sportsmanship and bad faith” instead of emphasizing Republicans’ need to maintain Senate control.

The GOP needs one more seat for a majority. Democrats need Jon Ossoff to defeat Perdue and Raphael Warnock to defeat Loeffler to force a 50-50 Senate, positioning Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking majority vote.

Trump on Monday blasted Gov. Brian Kemp as “hapless” for not intervening to “overrule” Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s certification of Biden’s win. A day earlier, Trump told Fox News he was “ashamed” he’d endorsed Kemp in his 2018 GOP primary for governor. Kemp’s office noted in response that state law gives Kemp no authority to overturn election results, despite Trump’s contention that Kemp could “easily” invoke “emergency powers.” Meanwhile, Raffensperger, a Trump supporter like Kemp, has accused the president of throwing him “under the bus” for doing his job.

I think it was Chris Hayes who argued that Trump never really had an agenda for his administration, and that Mitch McConnell basically imposed HIS agenda and Moscow Mitch got everything he wanted. And now the Georgia Senate runoff is the only thing left for Moscow Mitch to retain the Senate Majority and Trump is basically trying to screw Mitch over. I honestly don’t think Trump even sees it that way – it’s too complicated for Trump’s peabrain. All Trump knows is that he’s bigly aggrieved and he wants to take everyone down with his administration.

Two weeks ago, a nurse from South Dakota went public with the story that people regularly tell her, as they’re dying from Covid-19, that it must be something else because the virus isn’t real. This same scenario is happening all over the US, according to nurses interviewed by NBC News’ Dasha Burns. Dasha went viral on Twitter with a thread detailing the three days she spent with frontline workers in Appalachia. Last night I was watching Chris Hayes’s show on MSNBC and he had a segment with Dasha. She interviewed nurses in South Dakota too and they all had the same stories – that patients often didn’t believe they had coronavirus until they were in critical condition from it. You can see that video here and I’m transcribing it as I don’t see a writeup online yet.

On people in Eastern Tennessee not believing covid is real
DB: The chief infection prevention officer at the hospital put it pretty plainly. She said they’ve been preparing for a pandemic like this for years. What they weren’t necessarily preparing for was that people wouldn’t believe that one was happening even as it hit their community very hard.

The frontline workers I’ve been speaking with [told me] about their experiences which were tragic and heartbreaking. Nurses were seeing multiple patients die in a single shift. But then the second part of the conversation was just as heartbreaking. They were seeing patients who were coming into the hospital sick and did not believe that they had covid, even when the test came back positive.

HW: We have seen some that were skeptical beforehand. An otherwise completely healthy 30-some year-old will come into the ER and be short of breath and not understand why. Once they get to the critical point it becomes more real to them. A lot of times if they just come in and they are just on a few liters of oxygen these patients decline very fast. It’s a shock to them how sick they get and how quickly it happens. At that point is really the only point when they realize that this is something very serious.

On people blaming the hospital for giving them covid
DB: Another nurse told me that people will come in, test positive and blame the hospital for giving them the virus. It’s having real tragic impact on the patients themselves because they’re delaying care.

I just got [to South Dakota]. I posted a thread on Twitter on what I was seeing in Appalachia. The response I got was overwhelming from nurses across the country from Maine to Texas [and confirmed the rampant covid denial among their patients].

Dasha also said that there’s a contradiction between the fact that so many people are dying in these small communities, but that nothing is shut down like it was earlier in the pandemic. Another thing she mentioned, and I can confirm this as I live in a small town, everyone knows one another and healthcare workers are seeing their friends and acquaintances die. In my town if you don’t know someone, you know someone they know.

I’ve mentioned multiple times that I have seen so many maskless people shopping in my small town. In the past two weeks I haven’t seen one person not wearing a mask while inside. I’ve been much more careful though, and am only buying groceries first thing in the morning. The virus is hitting my community hard now and we’ve seen outbreaks in local government offices. The fact that it’s affecting people we know is making people take it seriously finally.

If you haven’t seen the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma I highly recommend it. It can be extremely hard to take as it shows the despicable ways that Facebook and other platforms operate to keep people scrolling. So many people are getting misinformation and lies, not only from the current sadistic racist government, but primarily from Facebook. Facebook needs to be shut down. It is feeding people a steady diet of garbage and conspiracy theories that are killing them and endangering countless others.

The weekend that The Crown’s Season 4 dropped on Netflix, Clarence House unleashed their full-throated hate campaign against Netflix, against the series and against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for signing on to a Netflix deal. Yes, even after everything that’s happened in the past month, they’re all still talking about it. The Crown gave royal commentators another opportunity to bash the Sussexes and to gaslight Princess Diana in her grave. And even then, the damage control continues because Prince Charles really is *that* worried about chickens coming home to roost. Anyway, Vanity Fair recently had a piece where they spoke to various royal commentators about the Sussexes’ Netflix deal and whether it’s fair game to criticize Harry and Meghan. Note: Sally Bedell Smith was quoted at length in this piece, but we already heard what she had to say.

Some royal experts, like Princess Diana biographer Andrew Morton, say that the alliance is anodyne. “The fact that Meghan and Harry have forged a deal with Netflix, who broadcast The Crown, is irrelevant—like saying the queen should not use the BBC for her Christmas broadcast because they broadcast the Panorama interview with Princess Diana,” said Morton. “Netflix is a broad church that broadcasts a kaleidoscope of shows, from fiction to factual.”

Hugo Vickers, who has written a biography of Elizabeth the Queen Mother, is dismayed by Harry’s association with Netflix. In Vickers’s mind, Netflix “literally bought a member of the royal family.” Vickers added that Netflix’s association with the royal is invaluable—even if the deal ends up going south. “You get a massive amount of publicity by hiring him,” said Vickers. “I just want to speculate…if something goes wrong later, you do not give him $100 million, you maybe just give him a few million, but in firing him you get even more publicity…I don’t know whether they’re going to use him or not. But the fact is [Netflix] has him, and I think that’s absolutely horrific.”

Andrew Morton, meanwhile, thinks that the monarchy should be thanking Netflix. “The Crown has done more to reignite interest world wide in the British monarchy than any television series in history,” said Morton. “It attempts and mainly succeeds in turning remote two-dimensional figures into living, breathing human beings. There will always be the ‘why, oh why’ brigade whining and nitpicking about detail and purpose—but overall, Peter Morgan has done a masterful job in making the monarchy relevant to a new generation.”

I mean, at this point, why can’t Charles admit that his lil’ hate campaign went nowhere? That, if anything, he helped promote the series? As for what Vickers says here… it’s just a lot of tut-tutting from old farts who truly don’t realize how any of this works. Those were the same old bitties crying about how “unroyal” Meghan was and how she was such a monster for wearing nail polish or touching her bump. I mean, as much as I want to just shrug off this stuff and say it doesn’t matter, it actually does matter to the palace and the royal gatekeepers. It’s all pretty pathetic.

When Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock in June, I first thought it was yet another pandemic-split. Then there was a small flurry of rumor-mongering that perhaps the split wasn’t solely pandemic-related, especially given that there are some indications that Brandon is a big cheater. But Kelly has a super-wholesome image and a talk show, so of course all of the off-side rumors came to a halt pretty quickly. For months, Kelly has been keeping it civil publicly. But it feels like some stuff is starting to come out about how this divorce isn’t all sunshine and amicable relations. An LA court just gave Kelly the primary physical custody of her two children with Blackstock, River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4. The court said she’s the one providing stability and the court noted that Kelly and Brandon are having a lot of co-parenting problems at the moment. Which led to this dishy piece in People:

Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock is looking for a hefty amount of spousal and child support. The music manager, 43, is seeking $436,000 in monthly spousal and child support after an L.A. County judge granted Clarkson primary physical custody of their children River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander, 4, a source tells PEOPLE.

“Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees,” the source says. “Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month.” If Blackstock’s request remains, he’d receive more than $5.2 million per year.

“Additionally, he’s already asked for $2M for attorney fees when he’s the one driving up the cost of the divorce with seven attorneys just representing him alone,” the source adds.

A source close to the family also tells PEOPLE that Clarkson is “pleased” by the custody ruling and that her priority is to protect her children. “As Kelly has said, her first priority in all of this is to take care of the kids and all the hearts that are involved in this divorce,” the second source says. “It’s been a hard time for everyone, but Kelly’s pleased with the court’s ruling regarding custody. Divorce is hard and it gets tense for most couples going through it. But Kelly’s primary focus is on doing the best she can to protect the kids. In this case, she had to fight for them since Brandon and his attorneys were making unreasonable requests.”

The source explains that Blackstock wanted the children to go “back and forth” from Los Angeles to Montana or reside in Montana even though L.A. has “undeniably been their home base.” In late October, the court found that the children “have not resided in Montana” and instead Blackstock must travel to L.A. to see the children at Clarkson’s Woodvale residence for “visitation and parenting time.” PEOPLE accessed the court documents on Monday.

Here’s the thing: Kelly was doing Brandon a huge favor by keeping their divorce bullsh-t out of the press for MONTHS. Even if Brandon thinks he has a good case, Kelly is pretty firmly in “America’s sweetheart” territory and People Magazine is clearly on her side, and actively helping her get out her side. I feel like Kelly wouldn’t have authorized this sympathetic piece unless she was really aggravated with Brandon at the moment. As well she should be – he’s trying to get her money, even though she now has primary custody (and he’ll have to travel to see the kids). Nope! Air all of his dirty laundry, Kelly! Also: dude has seven lawyers?!?!

As I covered, Tom Sykes at the Daily Beast had some interesting insights into the Windsor family’s reaction to the Duchess of Sussex’s New York Times op-ed. Meghan revealed that she had a miscarriage in July, and the reaction from the various royal households was either “no comment” or “this is a deeply private matter.” Sykes pointed out that unlike every other Sussex headline, the palaces were not running around to slam and smear Meghan, so perhaps this is a “royal reset” in relations between the Sussexes and the Windsors. But as Sykes also pointed out, there were some royal commentators doing the most to go negative (although it’s unclear whether this was authorized by any palace):

It didn’t take long for some pundits to begin sharpening their knives against Meghan: Camilla Tominey, an influential royal commentator for the Daily Telegraph where she is also a senior executive, sent out a breathtakingly harsh take in her weekly newsletter in which she wrote of Meghan’s decision to reveal her miscarriage.

“The piece she has written for the New York Times will only serve to further support the Mail on Sunday’s defense that Meghan has repeatedly invaded her own privacy,” Tominey wrote. “In describing how she watched her ‘husband’s heart break as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine,’ she has disclosed one of the most intimate moments in her own marriage.”

Sadly, there will be many in the upper echelons of the British establishment who will peddle this line in the days to come. The clever ones will pretend to respect Meghan’s public statement on the one hand, while simultaneously undermining her or calling her stupid or shortsighted on the other. They are on a losing ticket, not least because Meghan is clearly an extremely smart person. For example, she shrewdly used her piece not to wallow in her own grief but as a springboard to discussing the wider crisis that America finds itself in this Thanksgiving weekend.

Yeah, I don’t understand what Tominey is even trying to argue – Meghan’s privacy is hers to “invade.” Meghan can tell her own story, in her own words, at any time. That’s her choice. And if that was all the royal establishment had to criticize, it just shows how thoroughly they hate Meghan and Harry for *anything*. Meanwhile, there are some people in the media questioning why the official word from the palace wasn’t more generous to Meghan:

The Royal Family made a “huge mistake” by “abandoning” Harry and Meghan after the Duchess of Sussex disclosed her miscarriage earlier this week, a royal expert has claimed. The Royal Family botched an attempt to repair their relationship with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, according to Russell Myers, the Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror. Mr Myers labelled the “cold” response from Buckingham Palace a “huge mistake” and a “missed opportunity”. He suggested the failure to stand by Meghan and praise her for the op-ed suggests “how big those cracks are in the relationship”.

Buckingham Palace’s only comment on the sad news was a short statement that said it was “a deeply personal matter we would not comment on”. This prompted criticism that the response “lacked empathy” and showed a “cold” side to the royals.

TalkRADIO host Kevin O’Sullivan described the response as “sulky” and “strange”. He said: “When the palace released their statement, they neglected to note that Meghan had decided not to make it a deeply personal matter. She decided to share it with the world. They were wrong on that.”

Mr Myers told talkRADIO this morning that “this is a huge, huge missed opportunity for the Royal Family” before accusing them of “abandoning” Meghan. He explained: “They should have backed her to the hilt on this. They should have made public statements on this saying this is a really brave and honest thing to do. It would have potentially mended some of the cracks in the relationship that we have been talking about for months and months now, that are obviously there and still very raw. I thought the response was very stuffy, to be honest. We understood that Meghan and Harry spoke to senior members of the Royal Family about the miscarriage. We don’t know who but you can determine it was Charles, William or maybe the Queen. This was a massive missed opportunity. The palace could have got out front and centre on this and it would have been more of a conversation. It wouldn’t just be Meghan out on her own.”

He added: “Harry and Meghan – the whole view of them being outsiders is only further entrenched when they don’t get supported like this, unfortunately. In certain quarters of the palace, there are people at odds with Harry and Meghan’s approach by saying they wanted privacy and then they are doing an op-ed in the New York Times. But I think it was a bit of a sad, missed opportunity and they haven’t covered themselves in glory. They should have said they stand shoulder to shoulder with her, and she is very brave. One must wonder how big those cracks are in the relationship where they can’t even do that.”

I won’t defend the Windsors here, but I’ll say that it was nice that Meghan got the chance to tell the story on her terms, in her own way, and there wasn’t any pushback from the palace, and there weren’t courtiers running to the Mail to brag about how happy they were to shun her yet again. But yeah, this would have been the moment for Kensington Palace – William and Kate – to offer a more personal statement of support. Again, the fact that they can’t even pretend to care shows how mad W&K still are at the Sussexes’ popularity.

Chrissy Teigen loves to speak her mind on Twitter, especially when it causes a ruckus. The thing is, she picks a lot of topics that we do need to talk about. She’s now making a case for formula feeding for babies. Chrissy tweeted over the weekend that society needs to normalize formula feeding because some mothers have trouble can’t breastfeed and are shamed for it. Chrissy said she knew firsthand after not being about to produce enough milk for her babies and needing to rely on formula.

Chrissy Teigen is opening up about her past struggle with breastfeeding.

On Sunday, the Cravings cookbook author, 34, shared a thread of tweets detailing the “shame” and “guilt” she felt when her body struggled to produce enough breast milk for her two children, daughter Luna Simone, 4½, and 2-year-old son Miles Theodore, whom she shares with husband John Legend.

“Ok I’m gonna say something and you all are definitely gonna make it a thing but here goes: normalize formula,” she tweeted. “Normalize breastfeeding is such a huge, wonderful thing. but I absolutely felt way more shame having to use formula because of lack of milk from depression and whatnot.”

Teigen continued, “People have surrogates, people have trouble breastfeeding and all you hear as a new, anxious mom is how breast is best. ‘normalize breastfeeding’ is great. ‘normalize formula’ is great, too! so yeah. that’s all! normalize formula! your baby is gonna be BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, AND OKAY.”

“The stress of it, combined with the guilt that you cannot do nature’s most natural thing for your own baby is too much. I dunno why this is my crusade now. I just remember the sadness I felt and want you to know you are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama,” she wrote.

I was behind a man at the grocery store on Sunday who was buying formula – the good stuff, the stuff they keep locked behind plexiglass. I had a brief panic flashback of forgetting to buy it and not having enough at home. And then I felt terrible because he’d left and the clerk gave me his coupon for his next purchase! I’m with Chrissy on this crusade and I haven’t had to feed a baby in over a decade. A fed baby is always best. I promise you that is what babies would say if they could talk. If breastfeeding works for the mom, great. If it doesn’t, then finding what does is just as good.

Even though a few tried to take Chrissy on, most defended her point, going further to suggest that we should normalize letting a new mom do they best they can. I stopped breastfeeding my first child when he cut teeth at three months and started biting. I stopped breastfeeding my second at four months because I’d taken a four-day trip and didn’t pump enough while I was away, so she wasn’t getting enough when I returned. She’d also cut a tooth by then and I’d hated breastfeeding from the start. We were all perfectly happy and it never occurred to me to feel bad about it. I guess I could try to now… Nope, sorry – still happy with my decisions. I don’t know if anyone out there is currently struggling with feeding issues but if you are, I’m sorry. I do know it is an incredibly stressful situation. Please do what is best for you, your baby and your family and do not let someone else impose their ideas on you. If your doctor says things are okay, they are okay – and you will be too.

Yesterday, Wisconsin and Arizona certified their election results, ensuring that their states’ Electoral College votes would go to President-elect Joe Biden. This came after the “Trump campaign” spent millions of dollars in ridiculous lawsuits and recounts, all so Donald Trump could lose several times over. The Washington Post had a terrifying piece about the “20 days” of insanity between Election Day and Trump authorizing the Biden transition, with one adviser saying that Trump spent weeks telling people he actually won: “[He was like] Mad King George, muttering, ‘I won. I won. I won.’”

There’s some confusion about whether Trump really does believe all the lies he pushes, whether the con artist is actually the biggest mark of them all. I still don’t know, honestly. I think Trump is deranged and he can’t admit to himself that he lost, but he also fell backwards into a successful grift. Apparently, he’s raised $170 million since Election Day:

President Trump has raised about $170 million since Election Day as his campaign operation has continued to aggressively solicit donations with hyped-up appeals that have funded his fruitless attempts to overturn the election and that have seeded his post-presidential political ambitions, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The money, much of which was raised in the first week after the election, according to the person, has arrived as Mr. Trump has made false claims about fraud and sought to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory.

Instead of slowing down after the election, Mr. Trump’s campaign has ratcheted up its volume of email solicitations for cash, telling supporters that money was needed for an “Election Defense Fund.” In reality, the fine print shows that the first 75 percent of every contribution currently goes to a new political action committee that Mr. Trump set up in mid-November, Save America, which can be used to fund his political activities going forward, including staff and travel. The other 25 percent of each donation is directed to the Republican National Committee. A donor has to give $5,000 to Mr. Trump’s new PAC before any funds go to his recount account.

Still, the Trump campaign continues to urgently ask for cash. On Monday, Mr. Trump signed a campaign email that breathlessly told supporters that the end of November — nearly four weeks after Election Day — represented “our most IMPORTANT deadline EVER.”

The $170 million figure, raised in less than four weeks, is an enormous sum that rivals the amounts of money brought in at the peak of the campaign. While a breakdown of the money was not immediately available, the deluge of donations would appear to have paid off any remaining Trump campaign debt (in the first days after the election, the fine print showed that contributions were earmarked for that purpose). The money is also likely to provide Mr. Trump with a sizable financial head start in paying for his post-presidency political activities.

Despite the influx of cash, both the Trump campaign and the R.N.C. have reduced the size of their staffs since the election.

Something I’ve been wondering is whether Trump’s bonkers lawyers are actually going to get paid. Rudy Giuliani reportedly asked for $20,000 a day (lmao) but Rudy also said that he’ll work out his bill with the Trump people once everything is done. It feels like the “campaign” hired the dumbest clowns at the rodeo and those clowns are doing their best to spread every ridiculous conspiracy they can think of, all as performance art for Dear Leader. But are they going to get paid? I doubt it. As for Trump’s $170 million war chest… let’s be honest, that superpac is going to be Trump’s piggy bank for all kinds of things, few of them involving his political future. He’s going to loot that superpac for legal fees, for hush money, for bribes and probably for hookers and blow.

About 11 months ago, Prince William announced the Earthshot Prize, something vague (at the time) which he claimed would be so big and important. So big and important he ignored it for nine months, then attached his name to it once again when all of his aides had pulled something together. Enter Environmental Bill, Keen About The Environment. Suddenly Environmental Bill had a shiny new thing to launch and give interviews about and he even organized a weird documentary where he stood around royal properties and banged on about how much HE cares about the environment. He spoke about how nothing makes him more incandescent with rage than inaction, or lack of leadership regarding the environment. He said that all with a straight face, at the age of 38, after avoiding work his entire adult life. Well, who even knows who Prince Harry was referencing in a new interview:

Prince Harry has called for action rather than words to tackle environmental issues and the climate crisis. The Duke of Sussex, voicing his support of a new Netflix-style platform for climate documentaries, said that protecting the natural world needed “doers”. The royal was speaking in his capacity as head of Africa Parks, the conservation group he has been president of since 2017. A conversation with the Duke of Sussex about the importance of protecting the natural world will be available on WaterBear Network from 1 December.

“For me it’s about putting the do’s behind the say’s, and that is something that WaterBear is going to be doing: capitalising on a community of doers. There’s a lot of people that say, but this is about action,” Prince Harry said during the interview, The Independent has learned.

Harry, who has spent much of the past year in his adopted home of California with wife Meghan and their one-year-old son Archie, spoke on behalf of African Parks, the conservation group he has been president of since 2017.

I’m sure the anti-Sussex people will be like “omg, Harry puts talking ahead of doing too!” Yeah, but he actually goes and volunteers on the ground with environmental and conservation charities and foundations, and he always has taken action. While William has, historically, been more of a talker. William would rather hang out on Jecca Craig’s Kenyan property than actually protect wildlife or DO anything. Anyway, I don’t know if Harry was specifically referencing William and the Earthshot Prize, but it felt shady! And I’m here for it.
