The overwhelming majority of observant Muslims abstain from alcohol. The widespread interpretation of the Koran is that alcohol is haram, or forbidden. I’ve read articles about how *some* observant Muslims believe only certain types of alcohol are haram, but those Muslims are definitely a minority. Basically, if you’re around Muslim people/friends, don’t try to badger them into having a beer or a cocktail. And do not – for the love of God – pour alcohol on a Muslim’s head. But that’s exactly what Bill Murray did to Mahershala Ali, who converted to Islam in his 20s.

Mahershala Ali doesn’t drink, but that certainly didn’t stop Bill Murray from toasting him with alcohol at Sunday’s 2019 Golden Globes. The 44-year-old actor, who took home the best supporting actor trophy for his performance in Green Book at the 76th annual awards, stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday to talk about his big win. But it was his run-in with the former Saturday Night Live star that had Ali smiling.

As he recalled to DeGeneres, the two were backstage at the Beverly Hills Hotel — Ali discussing the film’s win for best motion picture (musical or comedy) alongside director Peter Farrelly and costars Viggo Mortensen and Linda Cardellini — when Murray, who presented at the Globes, began spilling alcohol on their heads.

“Bill was toasting us,” Ali told DeGeneres. “Bill toasted his glass on Viggo’s head, Linda’s head, and then toasts on my head and vodka spills all over my face and is running down into my eyes and in my mouth. And I’m doing the whole interview with an eye closed.”

“Vodka in the eye … it felt like hot acid rolling down my face,” Ali recalled. It may have hurt, but Ali certainly didn’t hold a grudge. “Hey, it’s Bill Murray!” Ali joked.

I hate that Mahershala is expected to just laugh it off and shrug, like why wouldn’t Bill Murray pour alcohol over everyone. Mahershala is doing the best he can, I suppose. But Bill Murray needs to stop, and I would greatly appreciate it if we stopped acting like everything Murray does is brilliant and funny. That was rude as hell, and it was a particularly nasty thing to do to an observant Muslim.

Khloe Kardashian used to be the most natural Kardashian sister. I remember that – it was years ago. At some point, Khloe just became the fakest Kardashian. Everything about her is fake, manufactured, plastic, nipped, tucked or plucked. Fake hair, fake lips, fake ass, fake nails. Her nails in particular have got people riled up – Khloe posted this photo of her giant fake claws on Monday and her comments were full of questions and nail-shaming:

I don’t have privilege about a lot of things, but I do have nail and hair privilege. My hair is thick and full all the time, and my nails are strong and they grow fast and I look like a French manicure naturally. My nails are constantly too long, but it’s usually an accident, because I forget to trim them and then I’m like “damn, why can’t I type?” But when I say my nails are too long, I mean they’re just a normal length, they’re not these crazy claws. I find it hard to function with normal nails – Khloe really must not do anything when she has on these Lee Press-Ons or whatever the f–k they are.

Here are some photos of Victoria & David Beckham on Monday evening in London. They attended a dinner hosted by GQ in honor of Men’s Fashion Week. Meaning, this was an event more for David than Victoria. Which is probably why he looks eager and happy – they’re doing HIS thing. When they’re doing one of her things, he looks grumpy and apathetic. Incidentally, I completely love Victoria’s ensemble here. Those trousers are amazing and flattering. Also: I do have to say, if Victoria is trying to give us a public view of how she really feels, I think she’s finally snapped! She looks completely over him. 2018 was full of stories about how David is over their marriage and Victoria is the one trying to keep them together. Maybe 2019 will be a different vibe.

Victoria and David did spend the holidays together, and they posted a lot of photos of all four kids under one roof for New Year’s Eve. You know what? Victoria looks sort of over it in those photos too. I mean, she looks happy to be with her kids, but I’m enjoying Posh’s 2019 IDGAF vibes. Let David do whatever he wants (and whoever he wants) in Miami. Victoria owns London, and she’s not going to be the only one who works to save this marriage anymore.

James Van Der Beek has five kids. I follow him on Instagram and his family is so photogenic and cute. James’ second wife of eight years, Kimberly Brook, had her last baby at home this summer. They are all two years apart! They have daughter Gwendolyn, who turns seven months soon, daughters Emilia and Annabel, two and four, son Joshua, six and daughter Olivia, eight. If I had that many kids I would be looking for every shortcut I could take. James says they don’t use babywipes though because they’re a scam.

James Van Der Beek chatted with Missi Pyle and AJ Gibson on the red carpet ahead of the 2019 Golden Globes on Sunday, where Pyle admitted she had consulted Van Der Beek for parenting advice after adopting a baby.

“You told me, ‘Don’t bother with baby wipes,’ ” said Pyle.

“Yes. Yeah, it’s a scam,” confirmed Van Der Beek, 41. “You don’t need medicated baby wipes. Just water.”

If personal hygiene wipes didn’t clog my plumbing I would use them. It’s just that the couple of times I’ve tried I’ve had to call a rotorooter guy. (Even with the “flushable” wipes. You can flush them but they will build up somewhere.) I get not wanting to use all those chemicals and perfumes on your baby, but there are unscented and natural wipes. I know that they’re bad for the environment, as are disposable diapers. (I think they use eco diapers.) I’m not sure how I would be able to cope with cloth diapers and just using water and washcloths unless I had a service though. Especially with that many little kids! It’s hard enough to raise and care for a baby as it is. It just seems like you’re making extra work cleaning up.

I keep saying this, but the Kevin Hart/Oscars/homophobia controversy has been one of the most bizarre scandals I’ve ever covered. It feels like a case where a lot of people were just talking past each other and misunderstanding each other, and no one stopped to say “wait, this is exactly what I mean.” On Sunday, I summarized where we were at the time – Ellen DeGeneres was trying to make it seem like Kevin Hart could and should come back to the Oscar hosting gig, and even Hart seemed like he was thinking about it. Hart also claimed that he had repeatedly apologized for his homophobia in the past, even though no one can find anything in their archives. Kevin also seems to think he’s been “bullied” and that his career is “over” or that the Academy had something to do with orchestrating everything that happened.

What’s been clear is that Kevin Hart hasn’t really stopped and really asked himself if what he did was wrong and how he can change and make amends. We all make mistakes, we all say or write the wrong things sometimes – it happens. But what comes next is important, and Kevin had not shown that he really understood that, nor did he seem to understand that the Academy was asking relatively little of him to ensure that he could keep the Oscar hosting job. And now, more than a month after Hart quit the Oscars gig because he refused to issue a comprehensive apology, Hart is issuing a comprehensive apology.

Kevin Hart is reaching out to the LGBTQ community and apologizing once more. The Upside actor, 39, extended the apology on his SiriusXM radio show Straight from The Hart, which airs on Monday night. Hart, who stepped down from his Oscars hosting gig after past homophobic tweets of his resurfaced, said, “Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.”

The father of three explained he had revisited his offensive tweets and his comedy set on his 2010 comedy special Seriously Funny in which he also made homophobic jokes.

“We thought it was okay to talk like that [in the past], because that’s how we talked to one another,” Hart explained. “In that, you go f—. This is wrong now. Because now we’re in a space where I’m around people of the LGBTQ community, and I’m now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say ‘That s– hurt because of what I’ve been through.’ So then we say, ‘Hey, man, as a group, let’s erase this s–. We don’t talk like this no more. Hey, let’s not do this. We don’t post this s– on social media.’”

Hart then promised he was “going to make sure that I don’t do anything else offensive [in comedy] because I talked to some friends of mine” who had given him their point of view. The star shared he understood what he had previously written was hurtful to those who read them.

“I’m not debating right from wrong. I’ve already stated it’s wrong. But, the other side of it is this: If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that’s the fight,” he explained. “The fight is the will and want for equality. I’m riding with you guys. I understand you. But in the fight for equality, that means that there has to be an acceptance for change. If you don’t want to accept people for their change, then where are you trying to get to the equal part? Where does the equality part come in? Because all of the people that have done wrong are the people that — you want their attention to say, ‘This is why we want you to change, so we don’t feel the way that we feel.’ And those people go ‘S—. I used to f—— be this way, guys, I’m not anymore. I’m sorry.’ But then they go, ‘But you didn’t say it right. Saying, ‘I’m sorry,’ you didn’t say ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry.’ But no, wait, guys, I just said ‘I’m sorry.’ ‘Not the way you should have! What does that mean?’ And then they break down the way things should be said.”

Hart equated the response he received even after apologizing as a form a “bullying,” saying, “And now it turns into, you’re bullying them because now, now that I said what I said the way that I would say it because I’m me, you’re now trying to change me into becoming what version of me you want me to be. I don’t think it’s wrong for people to have their own personal beliefs. I think that in the times that we’re living in, we have to be understanding and accepting of people and change. Bottom line.”

First of all, I think he finally hired some kind of crisis manager or a publicist who specializes in these kinds of PR nightmares, because the main part of the apology was pretty good and… it doesn’t sound like all of the sh-t he’s said up until this point. Secondly, why couldn’t he do this back in December? This is exactly what the Academy wanted from him – a comprehensive apology, an acknowledgement that those kinds of “jokes” are no longer acceptable or funny. And finally… the self-pity has got to go. He needs to stop talking about how he was “bullied.” He was not.

Angelina Jolie has known Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron for years. I think they first got to know each other when Cuaron – and the studio – repeatedly approached Angelina to play the lead in Gravity, with Cuaron directing. Angelina reportedly didn’t care for the script, even though the studio was ready to give her the biggest payday of her career if she signed on. She did not, and Sandra Bullock ended up in the role, but there were no hard feelings between Cuaron and Jolie, probably because Gravity was a huge success without her. As a testament to how Cuaron and Jolie are still friendly, she hosted an Oscar-campaign-type event for her friend’s film, Roma. Roma is getting a lot of Oscar heat, and many believe it’s a shoo-in for the Best Foreign Film Oscar.

Angelina Jolie hosted an intimate reception for “Roma” director Alfonso Cuarón at a hyper-exclusive new West Hollywood members club. The actress, who rarely hosts events, honored Cuarón on Saturday at San Vicente Bungalows following a screening of his movie.

She was overheard praising the “Roma” cast and posing for pictures with actresses Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira. The super private property has a strict no photos and no social media policy, and all guests have to sign a code of conduct and consent for blackout stickers to be put over the camera lens on their phones. One guest said, “Even Angelina had to sign and put a sticker on her phone. She seemed quite amused as it was done.” Other guests dining there Saturday included Meryl Streep.

It feels like Angelina just enjoys foreign films and of course she’d like the subject matter and story of Roma, plus she has a friendship with Cuaron. The weirdest thing to me is the idea that Angelina is a member of a hyper-exclusive new private club in West Hollywood. But of course, people are trying to make it sound like maybe Angelina is quietly romancing Alfonso Cuaron. Honestly… I could see that, and I think it would be good for her too, an involvement with a director, someone who is known as a brilliant artist. Gossip Cop denied the gossip about Jolie and Cuaron, but even they noted that Cuaron “recently split with his girlfriend of four years, Sheherazade Goldsmith,” but “he is not dating Jolie. As far as Oscar-winning actress is concerned, Gossip Cop has been repeatedly assured by a Jolie confidante that ‘she’s not dating at all, and is focused on her children and career.’” Hm…
