The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit Maranui Cafe in Wellington, New Zealand

Good lord, I really hope the Duke and Duchess of Sussex get a good rest after this tour. They were still in New Zealand today, which is final leg of their epic South Pacific tour. Early this morning, Harry and Meghan made a trip to the Maranui Cafe in Wellington to highlight mental health with the local group Voices of Hope. They chatted with kids and adults and everything was pretty low-key. Meghan’s outfit reflected that – she wore Outback Denim jeans (the same pair we’ve seen a few times) with a Jac & Jack turtleneck sweater and a Club Monaco trench coat. Meghan and her trenches, my lord. I mean, we’re still getting used to Meghan’s style and she’s still figuring out her “duchess style,” but I hope that her over-reliance on trenches eventually fades away. She runs around looking like she just stepped out of a post-apocalyptic Mad Max-type film half the time. Her boots are Stuart Weitzman.

After that, Meghan changed into more rain-friendly gear as she and Harry made a trip to Abel Tasman National Park on New Zealand’s South Island, where their plans had to be rejiggered at the last moment because of the rain. Meg was prepared though – she wore a windbreaker by Seasalt, more Outland Denim and Stella McCartney sneakers. Oh, her scarf is Loro Piana.

And finally, Meghan and Harry stopped by Courtenay Creative in Wellington to see all of the makeup/prop skills of the local creatives. Meghan wore a Maggie Marilyn dress and a Winsor London coat.

2018 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals

Pete Davidson must really be hurting after Ariana Grande dumped him about two weeks ago. He canceled a scheduled performance immediately following their breakup, but to his credit he did perform at a charity benefit last week. Pete joked about the fact that people called him stupid for getting tattoos for Ariana, some of which he’s covered up. US Magazine has two stories with insider quotes from Pete’s side. He’s portrayed as someone who was hurt but is staying strong. A source tells US that Pete was “100% there for Ariana” after her ex boyfriend, Mac Miller, died from a drug overdose last month. What’s more is that after Ariana dumped Pete he changed his phone number, so there. There’s no word if Ariana was actually trying to contact him, but if she was she wouldn’t have been able to reach him, ok?!

“Pete was 100 percent there for Ariana [after Mac passed]” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.

“She was not ready to be a in a relationship and she saw that,” the source tells Us. “Ariana pulled the plug, and then they decided to cool things off for a while.”

[They] “were trying to figure things out for a bit,” according to the source, but they “never had any set wedding plans.”

“Pete is still really depressed, but he knows that right now this is the right decision,” a second insider tells Us. “While Pete loves Ariana, he knows she needs her space. Pete and Ariana are really hoping for the best for each other.”

[Pete] changed his number after their split to “distance himself,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.

“He decided to focus on himself. He’s had the matching tattoo that he got with her changed,” the source explains. Two sources also note that “currently, they are not speaking.”

“This has been a difficult experience for Pete,” the source tells Us. “He’s always been an extremely private person and the Ariana Grande spotlight and social media were a lot of new pressure for him…

“Pete loved Ariana and wanted it to work, but they’ve both had such tragic events happen in their lives.”

[From two stories on US]

Pete has “always been an extremely private person.” He did delete his Instagram content, but I’m pretty sure that coincided with trouble in his relationship with Ariana. It seems like too much trouble to change your number if you want to go no contact after a breakup. I’ve only gone no contact once and blocked a guy who kept calling me with weak excuses after I dumped him. We only went out for a few weeks and he was more trouble than he was worth. That seems like the case with Pete too, only it took Ariana longer to see it.

On Thursday Ariana tweeted a response to a fake story about the end of her relationship. I’ve never heard of the outlet she’s responding to, but they printed a story that Pete’s family didn’t like her.

Here’s Ariana’s tweet, which she sent on before these stories about Pete changing his number came out. I would bet that the stories from his perspective are a response to this tweet and his way of saying they’re not “supporting” each other as she tweeted.

none of this is true. it’d be so helpful if the media and everybody would please just drop it and drop makin stuff up so we can heal and support one another moving forward. it sucks to see this stuff. thank u guys for understanding. ? much love and appreciation.

The tweet Ariana is responding to was deleted, but someone posted a screenshot.

Also, Ariana announced that she’s going on tour for Sweetener starting in March, Pete got a haircut and Ariana called her pig the “absolute love of my life.” This led me to google “how long do mini pigs live” and the answer is just five years. That’s sad! Think this through Ariana.

Meghan Markle and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge attend the first annual Royal Foundation Forum held at Aviva in London

For years now, I’ve been saying that Prince Harry and Prince William need separate communications offices. They have different roles and different needs and different constituencies, really, as the heir and spare. Over the years, I’ve noted – as many other people have noted – that the conjoined communications staff for the princes has been a bad thing for Harry. William constantly throws his younger brother under the proverbial bus, and the KP office’s priority is clearly William and Kate, at the expense of Harry’s PR and activities. When Meghan joined the Firm, I had high hopes that she would get more involved and convince Harry that they needed their own dedicated staff, working solely on their issues. Well… I think that’s what has happened? Meghan and Harry are apparently looking to branch out and have their own office and a separate “court.”

They have long appeared to be the closest of brothers, bonded in tragedy and an inseparable element in the worldwide appeal of the royal family. Yet the pressures of monarchy, marriage and their diverging royal roles are presenting new challenges for dukes of Cambridge and Sussex. Princes William, 36, and Harry, 34, are considering a formal division of their joint royal household, which is based at Kensington Palace, and the creation of separate courts to reflect their increasingly different responsibilities.

A source close to William and Harry said: “The brothers have leant on each other and looked after each other since their mother died. But now they have their own families, they no longer rely on each other as before.”

Roya Nikkhah, the royal correspondent for The Sunday Times, shared exclusive intel this weekend relating to Prince Harry and Prince William’s roles within the royal family. And per Nikkhah, “the Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex are preparing to go their separate ways. William and Harry considering plans to split the Kensington Palace household and create two separate courts as their future roles with Kate and Meghan diverge.”

The “royal double-act” could soon be a thing of the past, “when Harry, Meghan and their child… move from Nottingham Cottage.” As Meghan’s first baby is due in the Spring of 2019, it’s likely that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be preparing for their exciting arrival, which might mean moving into bigger accommodation.

[From The Times & Harper’s Bazaar]

I’ve also been wondering about the Nottingham Cottage situation – I can’t believe the Queen hasn’t already given Harry and Meghan a bigger apartment/situation at Kensington Palace. Maybe she’ll even give them a place beyond KP – but where? I don’t know enough about how much space Charles uses at Clarence House and St. James Palace, honestly. As for the separate court… as I said, the brothers have needed separate offices for a while. Harry can’t even have devoted palace-communications coverage of one his signature causes – say, Invictus – without William and Kate screaming “don’t forget about uuuuussssss” and demanding that Poor Jason put out a statement about how they’re super-keen about something. Of course, separate offices means there will be less coordination and the Cambridges and Sussexes will end up stepping on each other’s messaging and events more often. But… who do you think that will benefit? Meghan and Harry, just my opinion.

Duke and Duchess os Sussex arrive in New Zealand!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in New Zealand for the last leg of their whirlwind South Pacific tour on Sunday. Meghan wore a New Zealand designer for the first part of the day – the plaid trench coat here is by Karen Walker, a Kiwi designer. As I keep saying, trench coats and trench vibes are to Meghan what buttons and doilies are to Kate. Meghan has such a soft spot for a trench and wide trench-like collar/lapel. Underneath the trench, Meghan wore an ASOS maternity dress in black, and it didn’t look like she added weights to the hem, so she was holding down her dress as she exited the plane. Rookie mistake, Meg!

This ensemble is what Meghan wore for the day part of her activities with Harry – there was a welcome on the tarmac in Wellington, then a larger welcome ceremony at the Government House and some rope-line meet-and-greets and walkabouts. Then in the evening, there was a reception at Government House celebrating New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage. It was a cause Meghan wanted to really emphasize and celebrate. Meghan wore a custom Gabriela Hearst cocktail dress in black, which… eh. I mean, it’s a cute dress, but the price tag on this custom piece is $2495. There are tons of super-cute off-the-rack little black cocktail dresses which are a fraction of the price. Meghan once again made a speech, this time about the right to vote and feminism and human rights. Her speech made me wonder if she’s voting in the American midterms by absentee ballot. Her speech is below!

Spoilers for season one of Haunting of Hill House
Those of you who follow me on Twitter know that I was really annoyed by the ending of Haunting of Hill House. (I love talking on Twitter about shows!) Hecate and many other people agreed with me. I’m a horror fan and I also love cheesy Hallmark movies, but those two genres go together like oil and water. The last two episodes of the series had heavy-handed ridiculous dialogue and stupid plot twists, all with a syrupy score to emphasize just how far it went off the rails. This was so dissapointing because the show was almost masterful in its use of atmospheric horror and flashbacks up until that point. I’ve read it described as a creepy version of This is Us and that sounds accurate. Regardless it almost ended with everyone dying, according to the series creator Mike Flanagan, who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter. He explained the original vision for the ending, and how he decided that showing them happy, having Clara die in the house, and including a ridiculous voiceover about love and fear being two sides of the same coin was the right ending. (My words.) Here’s what he told them:

Let’s talk about the very end of the season. While the family members still alive come together to celebrate Luke’s (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) sobriety, we get a monologue from Steven about how fear and love are the same types of emotion. They’re like siblings, both involving the relinquishment of logic and patterns. Why did you choose to end the Crain story this way?

A lot of it is a shared experience we all connected with in the room. It’s really hard to resolve horror; it’s hard to end stories like this. We had been through so much in the course of writing it. Each of us had dug so deep into our own families and stories to try to inform the show that we all craved a moment of peace at the end.

We toyed with the idea for a little while that over that monologue, over the image of the family together, we would put the Red Room window in the background. For a while, that was the plan. Maybe they never really got out of that room. The night before it came time to shoot it, I sat up in bed, and I felt guilty about it. I felt like it was cruel. That surprised me. I’d come to love the characters so much that I wanted them to be happy. I came in to work and said, “I don’t want to put the window up. I think it’s mean and unfair.” Once that gear had kicked in, I wanted to lean as far in that direction as possible. We’ve been on this journey for 10 hours; a few minutes of hope was important to me.

[From The Hollywood Reporter via BGR]

You know how you resolve horror without killing people? You show characters who are suffering from PTSD, but who still kicked ass and remained true to themselves. (See the Halloween reboot.) You don’t change the storylines so much that it seems inauthentic. Luke should have died of that overdose. Theodora should be living alone and sleeping around, that’s her thing. Steve should be dating his lame fans. Shirley should still be hiding her affair from her husband and holding a grudge against him. Also, what does Henry even do? We never saw much of his backstory after his wife killed herself. I really care about these characters and I was invested in them up until about the eighth episode. Flanagan didn’t kill them all because he felt bad, but he wrapped the story up in a moldy pink bow that I don’t want to open again.

Speaking of that, there’s talk of a second season because of course there is. Flanagan said that if that happens he’ll go in another direction with it and won’t continue to tell this family’s story because “the Crains have been through enough.” That sounds like a good plan.

I know I spelled dialogue wrong!

Is anyone else really pissed off about the ending of #HauntingofHillHouse? I’m watching it now and rolling my eyes. The dialog is shitty the ending is maudlin and I’m mad. It lost the thread a couple of episodes before the end.

— celebitchy (@celebitchy) October 24, 2018

One more and I’m done. This is the worst claptrap I’m so pissed off. “Fear is the relinquishment of logic. The willing relinquishing of reasonable patterns. But so it seems, is love. Love is the relinquishment of logic.” #HauntingofHillHouse ending sucks pic.twitter.com/ua1BmxOD2w

There were a few celebrity Halloween parties this weekend, including the Casamigos party, where “>Brandi Glanville got in a fight, Just Jared’s Halloween Party and Kate Hudson’s. Here are some of the costumes and we’ll have more during the week. This Halloween has been mediocre for me so far. I skipped a party on Saturday and I don’t regret that as I wasn’t up for socializing. I did go to one fun event along with a very well done haunted house. (I went through it twice it was so awesome.) So far the real world has been so scary that it feels strange to celebrate Halloween.

Olivia Munn dressed as Awkwafina’s character from Crazy Rich Asians, Peik Lin, which was clever and cute. She wore this to the Casamigos party. Awkwafina gave her props for this!

Paris Hilton was just some kind of rainbow creature at the Casamigos party. Paris’s costumes usually involve a vague “sexy” theme, so this was right on brand for her. She posted a video to instagram of this costume with the title “spirit animal.” (Her words, I’ve heard that’s offensive.)

Halloween Candy – How Much is Too Much?

Oct 29, 2018 Author: Admin | Filed under: Celebrities

Should You Let Your Child Regulate Their Halloween Candy?

Halloween is just around the corner. A lot of last minute details for parents to finish up before the big night. Making sure your kid’s costume is in tack, the pumpkins are carved and you’re stocked up for your neighborhood trick-or-treaters. But the underlying stress that occurs with most parents during this spooky time is the sugary candy your kids come home with ready to devour.

How much is too much Halloween candy for your kiddo? And should you allow your child to decide how much he or she should eat?

Emily Fonnesbeck a registered dietitian says yes, “The goal is to trust them to trust themselves. It’s very normal for them to eat more than necessary on Halloween night and maybe even the day after.”

As shocking as that sounds Fonnesbeck recommends that you allow your unicorn or Spiderman to indulge in the evening’s bucket of candy they bring home and into the day after. A mother herself she goes a step further and encourages parents to incorporate their children’s Halloween candy in their meals and snack times days following Halloween.

“Parents can use a flexible structure where they have set meal and snack times, and candy can be a part of those if the kids request it,” she says.

View this post on Instagram

It’s almost time to make one of the biggest decisions of the year…what candy to hand out for Halloween! ?. Ive managed not to buy any yet, you know, that first batch that gets eaten BEFORE Halloween! ?. Everyone has their favorites – (KitKats, Skittles, Sweetarts, Twizzlers for me!) And their most hated – (mine- BitoHoney, those generic hard candies, or that one homemade popcorn ball ?) ~Fun fact: the number of trick or treaters fluctuates year to year here. One year we had tons, the next only 3. I underbought candy the year after only having a handful of kids – we were desperate so we handed out Top Ramen noodle packs and the kids thought it was hilarious and awesome. ?. ~The ritual of sorting through the candy after trick or treating was almost as fun as dressing up and going ~ so I hope you take your candy choices seriously~ ???. . . . #candy #halloween #halloweencandy #halloween2018 #halloweentime #halloweentreats #trickortreat #trickortreating #candies #october31 #fun #retro #nostalgia #nostalgic #halloweenvibes #halloweenfun #halloweenlover #besthalloweencandy #candyland #candychoices

This kind of approach is noted as the Division of Responsibility in Feeding developed by nutritionist and author Ellyn Satter. The belief is that its part of a parent’s responsibility to put trust in their child and allow him or her to make his or her own food choices and how much.

Fonnesbeck states that micromanaging your kiddos bucket full of candy could backfire on you. She encourages the parents to have a ‘you decide’ yourself approach with food altogether. According to Fonnesbeck, your child needs to learn on his own good versus bad food choices even if an upset stomach is a consequence.

She also encourages to take a neutral approach when talking about food especially candy as certain vocabulary can give if too much power.

“If we make candy a big deal, it will be a big deal,” she says. “If we talk about it like any other food, it’s more likely that kids will be able to self-regulate their food choices to include a wide variety of foods instead of feeling preoccupied, worried or shameful for food choices.”

Pregnant Meghan Markle delivers a speech during the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games 2018

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the closing ceremony for the Sydney Invictus Games on Saturday evening. Prince Harry had made a speech at the opening ceremony, and he did a closing speech too, but what was remarkable was that… Meghan spoke too. Because they really are partners now. Before I get to Meghan’s speech, let’s talk fashion… she wore this Antonio Berardi dress and possibly the ugliest pair of Aquazzura pumps I’ve ever seen. The pumps make her look like she’s wearing orthopedic braces on her ankles or something. As for the Berardi dress… I dislike it, but I also think it looks like “classic Meg.” She loves the look of a trench, even if it’s a dress. Meghan is to trench wear what Kate is to buttons.

As for Meghan’s speech… she talked about how she was involved with military/veterans issues before she even began dating Harry, and how she made a USO trips to lift morale. Part of her speech:

“It’s such an honor to be here tonight with all of you and supporting my husband at the Invictus Games, which he founded four years ago. In a short span of time, the games have evolved into an international platform of some of the best athletics and sportsmanship you could ever witness, coupled with a camaraderie and close-knit community, which can only be defined as the Invictus spirit.”

“?I’m not sure if many of you know this, but a few years ago, before I had met my husband, I had the incredible honor of visiting troops deployed all over the world, from the U.K. to Italy and Afghanistan, and several other countries. In traveling to these military bases, I was given a very special glimpse into the lives of those who serve our countries. ?I was able to see the unshakable bonds between service men and women on the ground together, but at the same time to feel the palpable longing for family and friends while deployed.”

[From People]

She’s such a natural at this. I’m including the video below. I was going to say “can you imagine a certain other duchess doing this,” but then I really thought about it. You know what? I can’t really imagine any royal woman doing this, getting up at a major event and give a speech without notes to a packed house. Diana could do that (although she used notes most of the time), but other royal women tend not to be the major speechmakers at this kind of event. Which got me thinking… it’s clear that Meghan is incredibly good at this, but will there come a point where her natural charisma is seen as a liability, because stuffy British upper classes are stuffy? Or are the Windsors just flat-out thrilled that they’ve got a duchess who embraces this kind of thing?

“?The support system on the ground here at @InvictusSydney is something unlike any other. Because it’s not just cheering on your own, but realising that by the end of this week, ‘your own’ becomes everyone in the Invictus family.” — The Duchess of Sussex #IG2018 pic.twitter.com/F958H2YpQ1

President Trump Speaks

These three things have happened in the past week:

1. The MAGA Bomber sent at least 13 pipe bombs to prominent Democrats, former members of Obama administration and media outlets. The bomber was identified as Cesar Sayoc, a Florida resident who drove around Miami in a white van which was covered in pro-Trump MAGA stickers and photos, and photos of prominent Democrats in “crosshairs.” Sayoc was known for threatening Democrats online and for rambling about all of his Deplorable thoughts to anyone and everyone.

2. A white man named Gregory Bush shot and killed two African-Americans at a Kroger supermarket outside of Louisville, Kentucky. He encountered a white couple in the middle of his terrorist assault and he said “whites don’t kill whites.” Before he killed those two people, he tried to break into an African-American church (but the doors were locked).

3. A white man named Robert Bowers took an AR-15 into Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday morning. There were Shabbat morning services and a bris happening at the temple. Bowers killed 11 people, and wounded six, four of them police officers who exchanged gunfire with Bowers after he barricaded himself in the synagogue. It’s being called the worst mass killing of Jewish people on American soil. Much like Cesar Sayoc, Bowers had a long history of hate speech and online activity of harassment and anti-Semitism.

That’s just in the past week. This past week has also included Donald Trump repeatedly talking about “globalists,” which is just a thinly veiled reference to Jewish people. He’s also mocked the idea of “Bomb stuff” and suggested that it was all a conspiracy against Republicans.

Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this “Bomb” stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows – news not talking politics. Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 26, 2018

In addition to that, he has partnered with Fox News to convince his MAGA supporters that the real enemy is… a caravan of migrants slowly traveling through Mexico. Or perhaps the real enemy is Muslim people? Or the Democrats? Or the media? Who can even keep track? Oh, that’s right – the MAGA Deplorables keep track of all it. They have a list, and they listen very carefully to Trump’s dog whistles and hate speech. We have to say this: the president of the United States is radicalizing terrorists. He is actively provoking them.

Oh, and he just happens to be incapable of human empathy, much like any garden variety psychopath. Shortly after Robert Bowers surrendered, Donald Trump blamed the victims and said that the synagogue should have had better security:

Trump says the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting has “little” to do with gun laws: “If they had protection inside, the results would have been far better.” (via CBS) pic.twitter.com/2z9JGCZXvb

— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 27, 2018

Then he complained about how his hair got wet because he had to speak to media outlets after a terrorist he radicalized and empowered murdered multiple people inside a house of worship.

Here’s the video. Trump jokes that he considered canceling his speech to FFA because his hair got wet while talking to reporters (about the mass shooting in Pittsburgh). pic.twitter.com/wLb4hpERgF

— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 27, 2018

And he won’t shut up about “globalists” either, not even after an armed anti-Semite shot up a synagogue.

Just moments after Trump calls for unity at a WH event, he references “globalists,” prompting several audience members shout “Soros” — who was a target of one of the bombs — and others shout “lock him up” to which Trump chuckles, points and repeats “lock him up” pic.twitter.com/IWZR3DRCvk

The Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex watch the wheelchair basketball final with David Beckham

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived back in Sydney, Australia on Friday, where they pretty much got off the plane and headed straight for the Australian Geographic Society Awards. I hope after the awards ceremony, Meghan and Harry headed back to the hotel for a good night’s rest. They were back on duty Saturday, where they attended the gold-medal match in wheelchair basketball between Team USA and Team Netherlands. The Americans won, and apparently Meghan was really jazzed about that. Team England actually took the bronze medal by defeating Team New Zealand. David Beckham and several Aussie politicians were also at the game.

For this appearance, Meghan wore a pair of skinny black slacks, designer ID unknown, and a garnet-colored jacket from Scanlan Theodore. The color is gorgeous on her, and I don’t even mind the peplum/ruffle. She also wore a paper poppy, as part of the Royal British Legion’s poppy drive. I really like that she’s been mixing up her hair styles too – while I haven’t liked every single hair look, I appreciate that she’s giving us different looks. Her hair half-way back looks very professional and pretty.

Meghan and Harry got to hand out medals to all of the competitors, and it actually filled me with a sense of pride and patriotism to see how Meghan was so happy for the Team USA competitors, and how pleased they were to see her too. But it was a Dutch competitor who decided to shoot his shot: as Meghan leaned in to shake his hand, he pulled her closer and got a kiss from her. It was just a kiss on the cheek! But he celebrated and she laughed. You can see the footage here:
