Earlier this week, there was some breaking Insta-model news: Kendall Jenner, one of the most famous of the Insta-models, had deleted or deactivated her Instagram account. “Insta-model” means “a model who curated her fame and career on social media platforms like Instagram,” so this was a pretty big deal for Kendall. Kendall had tens of millions of followers, and for the better part of a year, she had the most-liked Instagram ever (the hair-heart IG, above). So what happened? Was it an accident? Was it a conscious move away from social media? Hm…

It’s hard to keep up with Kendall Jenner these days. The 21-year-old reality star and model recently quit Instagram — and she revealed why during a Wednesday, November 16, appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that. Like, I have no idea how that [happened],” Jenner told Ellen DeGeneres of the buzz surrounding her absence from social media. “I mean, like, I guess I didn’t expect it. I also took my Twitter off my phone. Like, I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely, but I took the app off my phone, so I had no idea anyone was even talking about it. I honestly didn’t even think anyone would care. My friends kept texting me and my family members and I was like, ‘How does everyone know?’ And they kept sending me links to, like, CNN and all these things and I was like, ‘Why is this even that big of a deal?’” she recounted. “It’s so crazy.”

“I just wanted to detox. I felt like I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it … I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at,” Jenner told DeGeneres, 58. “I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kinda wanted to take a minute to detox.”

However, the social media maven assured the talk show host that she will eventually return to the app. “I’ll be back. I’ll come back. It’s been two days!” she said with a laugh. “Withdrawals are starting to occur.”

Since I don’t have the Twitter app (although I am on Twitter), I don’t know if it works that way, but sure. I’ll believe that Kendall was making an effort to disconnect in general and sh-t just got deleted. Believe it or not, I kind of liked Kendall’s IG. She wasn’t posting endless selfies, and a lot of her photos were work-related. I wonder if this will become more of a thing as these Instamodels get older – will more of them disconnect from social media and want to be seen as more “legitimate” models? Hm.

Also: I do think that a lot of people are disconnecting from social media in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory. Who wants to fight with the Deplorables online at this point?
