Last night’s American Music Awards felt like such a throwback to the pre-Covid era. There were a number of artists on-site, performing live, with an in-person audience. Sure, the audience was limited to maybe dozens of masked people in the balcony area of the Microsoft Theater in LA, but still – it wasn’t actually the best look? The AMA producers claimed that they were doing advance testing and testing on-site during rehearsals, and there would be an abundance of masks backstage (and few masks on stage, as it turned out). All to put on a show which… honestly could have been done virtually the entire way through.

I watched about an hour of the show, and the performances were pretty good. I was STUNNED that producers put Megan Thee Stallion on in the first hour of the show, when (arguably) younger kids were watching – her performance was very sexy and booty-intensive, and sources claimed that ABC’s censors were “freaking out” in advance. Megan also won Best Song – Rap or Hip-Hop. No IDs on her two outfits but that slinky black bodysuit was working overtime, let me tell you.

Here’s Ciara in Balmain. I hate this dress, and I hate that it matches the AMA background!

Dua Lipa was one of the few artists to do everything remotely – she was in London, and she accepted an award via video link-up, and she performed in London too. Her “red carpet” look was Versace.
