Questioned for his connection with Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew "puts an end to his public commitments" **FILE PHOTOS**

Prince Andrew was out and about in Windsor yesterday, riding a horse in the British heatwave. I thought Andrew would perhaps already be up in Scotland with his dear mummy, but I guess not. Perhaps he doesn’t feel like he should travel at the moment, lest he somehow get “renditioned” to America for FBI questioning about Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Andrew’s name crops up somewhat early in Finding Freedom, during Prince Harry’s courtship with then-Meghan Markle. Meghan and Harry had been quietly dating for months, both of them traveling back and forth from Toronto and London with no one the wiser. Harry knew that as soon as the story broke, all eyes would be on Meghan, and he and Meghan both went through great lengths to hide their relationship. When Harry was in Toronto around Halloween 2016, the story broke – and FF notes that the leak to the British papers came from one of Prince Andrew’s staffers. How did Andrew’s staff know? My guess is that Harry told Eugenie all about Meghan (FF says as much) early on in their relationship, and Eugenie told her father and her father’s staff. It almost feels like that sets some kind of tone for what will unfold over the next four years too – Andrew actively hiding behind Harry and Meghan, with a complicit palace structure choosing to throw H&M to the wolves while simultaneously protecting Andrew.

Harriet Hall at the Independent had a great column about this very thing, the comparison to how the palace treated Andrew versus the Sussexes. Here’s an excerpt:

Buckingham Palace had failed to protect the Sussexes, they’d had enough. It simply wasn’t worth it – and certainly not for a man who had watched his mother similarly hounded.Finding Freedom describes Harry reading a tabloid article one day and being “disgusted” by how the paper had portrayed him. The book describes the duchess’ despondence on their final day, telling staff “it didn’t have to be this way,” as she said her goodbyes.

Did it have to be this way? It wasn’t this way for Prince Andrew. He managed to cling on to his royal income and philanthropic pursuits years after being photographed with his friend, convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Why was there no Palace-approved Meghan and Harry interview where they had the chance to tell their story? When Prince Andrew was given royal approval to sit in Buckingham Palace and talk about enjoying doughballs and being sweat-free, as he denied claims he raped then 17-year old Virginia Guthrie who alleges she was part of a sex trafficking ring run by Epstein. Prince Andrew has denied all accusations against him.

…I believe his arrogance and untouchability were in stark contrast to Meghan’s constant attempts to ingratiate herself with the royals and involve in philanthropic pursuits, but being continually hounded by the elements of the press for opening her own car door, exposing shoulder flesh, wanting to keep her son away from the glare of the limelight or daring to have a difficult family life. That combined with the picture we have been provided of what life was like inside the Royal Family, it is no wonder things ended up the way they did.

Why did Buckingham Palace, the book asks, not work harder to break free from their “no comment” approach to dismiss the numerous unfounded rumours surrounding her? It is all so sour compared to those joyous pictures of the Sussexes wedding day.

[From The Independent]

“Why was there no Palace-approved Meghan and Harry interview where they had the chance to tell their story?” Because the point was always to silence Meghan and Harry (specifically Meghan). Because the point was always to use M&H as cover for Andrew. Because the point was that Andrew was mummy’s favorite and raping underage human trafficking victims is preferable than “being biracial.”

Earlier this week there was an update on the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorce situation as court papers filed in Los Angeles revealed that Angelina’s lawyer has asked to disqualify the private judge presiding over their case. According to Angelina’s legal team, Brad’s legal team works frequently…

Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson at the Vogue & Tiffany Fashion Film Party at Annabel's

Jodie Turner Smith welcomed her baby girl back in April. We still don’t know the name of Mystery Turner-Smith-Jackson, correct? I didn’t even remember that Jodie and Joshua Jackson had a girl. Anyway, the baby is about four months old now, and we haven’t heard much of anything about the birth, etc. Some new moms like to share their stories immediately, some wait! In Jodie’s case, she wrote an essay for the September issue of British Vogue about her FOUR DAY home-birth and honestly, I think my uterus just packed up and caught a flight to Costa Rica. You can read some of British Vogue piece here. Some highlights:

Why they decided on a home birth: “We had already decided on a home birth because of concerns about negative birth outcomes for black women in America. According to the [CDC], the risk of pregnancy-related deaths is more than three times greater for black women than for white women, pointing, it seems to me, to systemic racism.”

Home birthing in a time of Covid: “We never imagined that in the coming weeks, hospitals around the country would begin restricting who could be present in the birthing rooms, forcing mothers to deliver without the support person or people of their choice. Delivering at home ensured that I had what every single woman deserves to have: full agency in determining my birth support.”

Joshua was by her side the whole time: “Both of us had watched our own mothers struggle to raise children without such support. Both of us were determined to create something different for ourselves. He kept saying to me, ‘There’s no part of this that I’m going to miss.’ And there wasn’t.”

Four days of labor: That extended to the couple’s home birth, which saw Turner-Smith labouring for nearly four days in their Los Angeles home. “Early in the morning on my third day of labour, my husband and I shared a quiet moment. I was fatigued and beginning to lose my resolve. Josh ran me a bath, and as I lay in it contracting, I talked to my body and I talked to my daughter. In that moment, he snapped a picture of me. An honest moment of family and togetherness – a husband supporting a wife, our baby still inside me, the sacred process of creating a family.”

Welcoming a child into the world in 2020: “Sometimes I wonder how I will explain to my daughter what it meant to be born in the year 2020. The historic events, the social unrest, and me – a new mother just trying to do her best. I think I will tell her that it was as if the world had paused for her to be born. And that, hopefully, it never quite returned to the way it was before.”

[From British Vogue and Page Six]

Jodie gave birth in LA, and it’s my understanding that California hospitals were still allowing a pregnant woman’s partner or spouse to be with her in the delivery room? But she’s probably talking about doulas or midwives too, and yes, I bet those extra support people would be banned from delivery rooms in the pandemic. Anyway, home birthing makes me so nervous, and a four-day labor… my God, I can’t even imagine. Poor Jodie. Poor Joshua. Josh sounds like such a loving, engaged partner too – it sucks that it’s so notable, but it IS. So many men are garbage at all of this, but Joshua was ride-or-die for Jodie as soon as they met.

I got the high waist tummy control IUGA yoga pants in small, which is typically my size. They were such good quality, they were thick, soft and comfortable, but they felt a bit tight! I think that’s typical of those high end leggings and has nothing to do with pandemic weight gain. I returned them and will likely order a size up. One of my friends ordered the Ebanel skin brightening serum we featured in May. She said it really worked for her and wrote “The skin serum to lighten melasma did an even better job than the No. 7 brand I’d been using (& the Dr Brandt stuff for $68 was total crap).” Oh and I had to order new little ring gaskets for my fancy hummingbird feeder, which has been one of my favorite purchases in lockdown. It started leaking so I ordered these, you get 3 for $4, that was easy to replace and worked perfectly. Here are more things Hecate and I are looking at!

A reusable oil-absorbing roller made of real volcanic stone

From CB:This washable, reusable oil absorbing roller by Revlon is made of volcanic stone. Women say it really works to absorb oil quickly and that they love how they can keep it in their purse for touch-ups on the go. It has over 1,100 ratings and 4.2 Reviewmeta score. It’s called “far better” and less wasteful than blotting papers, a “magic stick” that gives a matte look without messing up your makeup at all, and “nothing short of amazing.” It’s also called “a new staple in my beauty bag” and “life changing.” Some reviewers say that you have to remember to wash it periodically.

A ultrasonic skin spatula to remove old skin cells and blackheads
Amazon_OilAbsorbingRoller2
From CB: I want to do a full at-home facial as my next quarantine project, so I will start researching what I need for that! I definitely need this stainless steel ultrasonic skin spatula. It has four vibration modes for different purposes including deep cleaning, lifting and helping apply products. This has over 2,000 ratings and 4.1 Reviewmeta stars with 0% reviews removed, which is excellent. A licensed esthetician says it’s not quite as powerful as a professional device (it’s only $25 so I wouldn’t think it would be) but that it’s pretty good. She recommends that people only use it once a week though to give their skin time to recover. Others say “the price point is amazing and it does the job,” “I was able to exfoliate my skin nicely and get some extractions from my clogged pores on my nose and chin,” and “my skin became smoother and cleaner than before and I had less breakouts.”

An inexpensive face mask mixing kit for that at-home spa experience
Amazon_FaceMaskSet
From CB: This is a whole DIY face mask kit including 2 silicone brushes, a soft brush, spatula, bowl, spray bottle and more for just $7. You would pay that for just one brush at the store. This has 290 ratings and 4 stars on Reviewmeta. Women write that “The measuring cups makes it easy to measure and the mixing bowl and spatula are good for mixing,” “you get a lot for just $7,” and that it’s a “great product and value for price.” Some say it’s smaller than expected.

A K-Beauty serum that so many women swear by
Amazon_DayGlowSerum
From CB: I keep looking for that holy grail serum and this one has so many converts. This anti-aging anti-wrinkle Day Glow serum by Seoul Ceuticals has vitamin C, hyaluronic and ferulic acid. The price is competitive at under $18 for an ounce. It has over 2,700 ratings and 4.2 stars on Reviewmeta. Women call it “the best serum I have ever used,” an esthetician calls it “outstanding, high-end caliber C serum” and another writes that it’s a dupe for the $200 Skinceuticals serum. One woman raves that her “skin is brighter, looks smoother, more supple and youthful. People keep telling me how amazing my skin looks.” Several reviewers have before and after photos showing how it faded their acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

A universal socket tool that has so many uses
Amazon_UniversalSocket
From Hecate: I saw this suggestion on Buzzfeed this weekend. I’m handy enough to take care of myself but I tend to like my home repairs simple, and that includes the tools. I remember digging through one of my husband’s tool boxes and almost upending it because I could not find the right sized socket (out of countless stupid socket heads!) This could give the right fit every time. This has over 3,200 ratings and 4.2 stars on Reviewmeta. Reviewers were happy with its adaptability, “I like the versatility and the time it saves from having to switch sockets,” and with its durability, “It hasn’t rusted or been damaged or fallen apart.” A couple folks reminded the purchaser that this is for generic jobs, so more complicated tasks might need more specific equipment, but as a universal tool, this was aces.

A cute machine washable shopping bag that holds so much stuff
Amazon_CuteShoppingBag
From Hecate: Most stores are allowing us to bring in reusable bags again, if we agree to bag our own stuff. I have a bunch of the stiff sided bags you can buy from grocery stores but now I’m relying on these thinner, more compact bags. I always have at least two in my purse but I think I’ll get rid of the bulky stiff bags and just this king in the car. I love this one because it comes in a ton of colors, including a few cute three-pack options. This received 1,500 ratings and a 4.7 star Reviewmeta score. Reviewers said it’s sturdy enough for a heavier haul, “This is not your usual, flimsy eco-tote. The first time I used it, I carried three 12-can packs (10 lbs. each) of Coke and some other stuff from the drugstore,” and super comfortable, “Their wide and good length handles make them very comfortable to carry both in hand and on shoulder.” I’m grabbing a couple and reclaiming my trunk space back!

A pet life jacket so you don’t have to worry about your dog around the water
Amazon_DogLifePreserver
From Hecate: I’ve seen a bunch of IG posts with dogs on boats this summer and it’s giving me major summer vibes envy. But not all dogs are great swimmers and I think if you are suiting up your kid with a life preserver, you should look after your pet as well. I’m calling this a pet life jacket because they do have a size small enough for a cat, but if you get your cat on a boat in this jacket, I want to see pics! This jacket is from Outward Hound, which is pretty well respected, and got 4.4 Reviewmeta stars and almost 10,000 reviews. Comments about the jacket include being able to use it on land as well, “You can put the life jacket on the dog while still leashed, an important feature when getting ready to go onto the water from a boat launch or other public area,” and one noted that the grab handle was sturdy enough to retrieve a pet in trouble out of the water, “I briefly tested the top handles lifting her and they seem sturdy enough, obviously they’re not meant for prolonged lifting, but strong enough to lift her out of the water if necessary.” Happy boating (in dog, “woof woof.”)

Duke and Duchess os Sussex arrive in New Zealand!

This Finding Freedom story is a request from the Celebitchy Zoom call, apparently you Celebitches want to talk about the FF story about then- Meghan Markle’s duchess training and security training. Let’s set the scene: Meghan and Harry were quietly engaged in the summer of 2017, and everyone at the palaces knew about the engagement soon after it happened. H&M were basically given a grace period of several months throughout the fall to just be a private couple. Everyone knew Meghan was the “official girlfriend” and she was living in Nottingham Cottage with Harry.

They didn’t officially announce the engagement until late November that year, and things went to warp speed after that, including the criticism. Harry and Meghan were well aware of the chatter in the palaces and in the media. Harry was thrilled to guide Meghan through the details of British life and royal life. They put together the team of people who would help them. Meghan began researching the charities she wanted to work with, because she truly wanted to hit the ground running and announce some patronages soon after the wedding. Meghan was also going through what must have been quite intensive training on royal life, and one of the most fascinating asides in FF was this:

Set to undergo the same informal training Kate had embarked upon following her engagement to William—a series of instructions that covered everything from how to most gracefully exit your chauffeured sedan while wearing a pencil skirt to when to curtsy to members of the family several rungs up the hierarchy from you—Meghan was connected to a team of experts. She had hoped to take etiquette lessons, too, but curiously they were never on offer.

[From Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family]

I’m almost positive that Kate took etiquette lessons before her marriage, but if memory serves (and I can’t find this story now, but I’m sure I wrote it up at the time) Kate sought etiquette lessons herself, separate from the “princess lessons” she received by courtiers. I’m not surprised that the palace didn’t offer etiquette lessons to Meghan, but I am surprised that she didn’t ask about it or request it?

Meanwhile, in addition to all of that, Meghan also went through “an intense two-day security course with the SAS, the British Army’s most elite regiment.” FF points out that Kate didn’t receive this training until after her marriage, although I do remember that in 2007-08, when Kate was back with William following their big breakup, she received some security guidance. It just wasn’t this intensive SAS training, which has royals going through various security-nightmare scenarios, like kidnapping and terrorist attacks.

The training—which all senior members of the royal family except the Queen have completed at SAS headquarters in Hereford—is preparation for all high-risk security scenarios, including kidnapping, hostage situations, and terrorist attacks. Meghan took part in a staged kidnapping, where she was bundled into the back of a car by a “terrorist,” taken to a different location, and then “saved” by officers firing fake guns (the kind used in Hollywood filming) for realism.

During the mock kidnapping, Meghan was even taught to develop a relationship with the enemy. She was also instructed on how to drive a car while in pursuit. A source said it was an “extremely intense and scary” experience for Meghan, but one that she was grateful to have gone through.

[From Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family]

I imagine it was scary to go through that and think about that. And it was a reminder of the kind of violent racism already targeting Meghan, even in those early days, which was being constantly ginned up by a rabid and racist press machine.

One of the courtiers explained the differences between Kate and Meghan and how they dealt with the situations from girlfriend-to-fiancee-to-wife as Kate being “lovely and smart and shy and modest, and beautifully gorgeous. And very watchful. She always used to say, whenever she rang me . . . when she was the girlfriend, ‘I’m really sorry. I don’t want to bother you with these facts.’” And then Meghan “arrived in this job a fully formed adult, having lived already a third of her life. She is a Californian who believes she can change the world. She creates her own brand, she creates her own website, she does deals. She talks about life and how we should live. Good for her. That’s the way in America. In Britain, people look at that and go, ‘Who do you think you are?’”

Here are some photos from Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s first campaign event together yesterday in Wilmington, Delaware. Let me just say: whoever did Kamala’s hair and makeup for this first event should stay on staff permanently, she looks amazing! Really glowy, with great bouncy, shampoo-commercial-looking hair. Love that she wore a simple blue pantsuit too, in what I assume was an ode to the last woman on a national ticket, Hillary Clinton.

Anyway, as we discussed yesterday, the Republicans have no idea how to attack Kamala Harris. Some of them have tried the Bernie Bro line of “Kamala is a cop,” but they also want to say that Kamala hates cops and wants to destroy the suburbs with her hatred of policing. It’s been a mess from the GOP thus far, but of course not even 24 hours into Harris’ presence on a national ticket, this happened:

Is Kamala Harris eligible for the office of Vice President? Here’s my article, published by Newsweek, exploring the issues. Short answer: It depends! https://t.co/A2K08EBUYu

— John Eastman (@DrJohnEastman) August 12, 2020

That’s right, people! It’s 2020, Kamala Harris is on the Democratic ticket and NU BIRTHERISM is here. Kamala Harris is a first-generation American, the daughter of a Jamiacan father and an Indian mother. She was born in Oakland, California. Full-stop. There is no “but what if Oakland isn’t really America” clause. There is no “but black-Asian women are inherently un-American RIGHT” clause. She was born in America, she’s an American citizen, she’s eligible to be president. Unlike John McCain, who was born in Panama. Why is it that Republicans’ racism so often takes the form of “trying to strip Black Americans of their citizenship”?

The Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex visit the Redwoods Treewalk in Rotorua

As we heard this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have purchased a family home in Santa Barbara, California. I’m actually kind of suspicious about the timing of the announcement – the Sussexes’ spokesperson confirmed the news on what was technically the day that Finding Freedom came out. And they released the news about the house six weeks after they moved in? It’s very curious. It’s possible that the Sussexes’ confirmation was trying to get ahead of someone tipping off Page Six. I don’t suspect a royal conspiracy on this one – I think it’s far more likely that some California real estate agent leaked something and that’s what got Page Six on the case.

As for the home itself, a lot of people are throwing out a lot of different numbers and theories. TMZ reported yesterday that the home is in Montecito, and that it’s worth about $10 million.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have left Los Angeles for greener pastures … in the lush, super-exclusive city of Montecito … and the Oprah connection seems undeniable. Montecito realtors with knowledge tell TMZ, the couple went into escrow in July and the deal closed about a week ago. We’re told they spent around $10 mil, which got them a lot more house than they’d get in L.A.

It seems Oprah may have helped guide their path. We’re told she helped put them in contact with Tyler Perry, who let them live in his Beverly Hills estate while they got their SoCal sea legs. Oprah, who has a massive, incredible estate in Montecito and clearly loves it, has a connection to Harry … they co-produced a documentary on mental health.

Montecito is a relatively small, quiet community near Santa Barbara. Interest in living there has exploded since the pandemic hit the U.S. Lots of people from L.A., Dallas and New York are picking up and moving there. Lots of celebs live in Montecito, including Ellen, Scooter Braun, Dick Wolf, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Stewart, Rob Lowe and many others.

As for Meghan and Harry, we’re told they bought a secure, gated estate. These properties have plenty of land … in some cases up to 50 acres, although most of that is hillside. But, the properties have lots of flat land, so Archie can play away.

[From TMZ]

I looked it up – Montecito actually is part of Santa Barbara County, so technically the Sussexes could have bought a property in Montecito and then just said “Santa Barbara” vaguely. Is anyone else tired of media outlets spinning conspiracies about the Oprah Connection though? My God, we get it. Meghan and Harry are “friends with Oprah!” They’re being “advised” by Oprah. They sit at Oprah’s feet and ask for her mentorship and wisdom. Or maybe they’re just friendly and Oprah was like “Montecito is really nice!”

Anyway, the British papers are still having a full-on meltdown. They were so used to gleefully ripping Harry and Meghan to shreds for Living In Tyler Perry’s Mansion, and now they’ve got a new line of attack. Plus, they get to continuously dust off the hysteria asking WHEN will Harry and Meghan “pay back” the money for Frogmore Cottage.

There were questions asked about the expense after the pair had agreed to pay £18,000 a month to repay £2.4million used to refurbish and renovate their previous Frogmore Cottage residence. Royal expert Ingrid Seward told MailOnline she understood why people were asking about the price spent on the new home.

She said: ‘I think people at this moment of time when Meghan and Harry do anything to do with money, it isn’t going to be looked at very favourably. People will not like what they do when it involves a lot of money.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Question: how do these fussy, puckered, salty, disgusting people know that Harry and Meghan haven’t already “paid back” the cost of Frogmore Cottage? They said they would. Maybe they already did. And besides that, they shouldn’t have to pay back anything. The Queen “gave” them a decrepit little cottage with the understanding that they would restore and renovate it for modern use, and it remains part of the Windsor Castle property. What should actually happen is this: Harry and Meghan suddenly announce “actually we’re not paying back sh-t and f–k you, we’re never going back to that cottage.”

Oh, and this Page Six story broke overnight – they say that the Montecito home is nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms (which is insane), 18,000 sq. foot and that H&M paid $14, 650,000 for it. The grounds include rose gardens, a tennis court, a tea house, a children’s cottage and a pool, as well as a two-bedroom guesthouse. Sources also denied that the money for the home or down payment came from Charles: “Meghan and Harry finally feel like they are on their own, and it feels great. They bought this house without help from his family, they aren’t using it on loan from a friend as they had before. It’s truly theirs and they can’t wait to make it a home.”

Kelly_R_People_Cvr

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelo appear on the cover of this week’s People along with their three kids, Michael, 23, Lola, 19 and Joaquin, 17. People is calling this their “inaugural family issue,” which explains why the whole crew is on there. Kelly and Mark celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in May. With a scandal-free marriage and three kids who still hang out with them, I’m fine with them being the first People family ambassadors. They got the whole People package too, with a big photoshoot and videos of them interviewing each other. You can read the first release here, focusing on how Kelly and Mark have changed as parents. I found myself agreeing with what they said about parenting and pulling back the more you trust your kids. But I really enjoyed the interview clips between Kelly and Lola. The questions People provided are expectedly softball but the answers were good, particularly when it came to their comments about Kelly’s social media.

Lola: Something my mom posts on social media that I would never is… the comments back to the haters. I don’t even think you should give them the time of day. People are sitting at home wishing they were you.

Kelly: I think my haters and I have a healthy relationship with each other. It’s a give and take. The people that I clap back to are very clever, they’re usually very funny, I usually get a good chuckle out of it. They deserve a little pepper.

Lola: Or the belfie, that was ridiculous, the butt selfie?

Kelly: That was good. Apparently, I should not clap back, but I thought the clap back is what people want. I thought you were going to say I shouldn’t post thirst trap pictures of your dad.

Lola: That’s disgusting I forgot you even did that. I don’t even know if I follow you still

[From video on People.com]

So just to get it out of the way, whereas I can certainly appreciate Lola’s stance on the subject, please, God, Kelly – never stop the Mark thirst trap photos. Those have gotten me through some of my darkest hours… or at least some of my horniest. As for Kelly clapping back, I like Kelly’s views on her “haters.” I like that she kind of respects the ones she responds to. Ultimately, I still agree with Lola, that it’s probably better not to give them that space, but the fact that Kelly thinks they’ve earned a peppered response for being clever with their criticism is a unique way to think about it. Lola went on to tell her mom that, “irrelevant people should stay out of our lives,” and my gawd, I think I am going to have that painted on my front door – what a great line.

I found myself moved by this interview video between Kelly and Lola, which you can see on People’s site. In the past, it appeared as though Kelly kept dragging Lola through the mud for the entertainment of her fans/followers. But their rapport in the video shows a mutual respect and a lot of affection. I may not agree with a lot of what Kelly posts, but ultimately, it’s Lola she has to answer to, and it sounds like they’re on shared ground. I heard a lot of myself and my mother in them and that gave me some good feelings for the day.

Now, let’s see how long it takes for Kelly to offer up some TMI on her kids after this. Maybe she should just focus full-time on those Mark thirst traps.
