It was exactly a month ago that Robert Pattinson was photographed spending all day at a pub in London and then FaceTiming Suki Waterhouse on his way home. A few days after that, the Daily Mail reported that it was over. Which I didn’t bother writing about because, well, it’s the Daily Mail.

The Prince of Wales' 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent some time in Scotland this summer. Reportedly, they stayed at Prince Charles’ Scottish castle, and then I think they spent a day or two visiting the Queen at Balmoral. Harry and William spent a lot of time at Balmoral when they were kids, and they both have an affection for Scotland. So will Meghan and Harry eventually have a home in Scotland too? That’s what Vanity Fair says – apparently, Meghan is a big fan and now Charles is hoping that Meghan and Harry take over some of his Scottish property in the years to come. I didn’t know this, but the Queen Mum and Prince Charles consolidated the Castle of Mey into a trust called the Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust. Charles runs the castle through the trust, and all of his Scottish charitable endeavors are run through the trust as well. Charles apparently hopes that Meghan and Harry will take over:

Princess Diana wasn’t a fan of Scotland. She hated the midges, disliked the inclement weather, and counted down the days until she could return home to Kensington Palace. Fortunately, the Duchess of Sussex is much more enthusiastic about the Highlands, which is just as well; Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may soon be spending more time in the country, and specifically at the Castle of Mey, the coastal estate that’s been in the royal family since 1952.

After spending nearly a week of their summer holiday at Mey and a brief weekend at Balmoral with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Sussexes have fallen in love with the country, much to the delight of the Queen and Prince Charles, who is hoping Harry and Meghan may want to get even more involved with the castle in the future. “I think Charles might want Harry, if he is interested, to oversee the operations of Mey when the time is right,” reveals a source.

“I think Prince Charles would probably be delighted if his younger son were to take an interest in Mey,” said Charles’s biographer Sally Bedell Smith. “What I don’t know is when Charles would want, if indeed he does, to hand the supervisory reins to Harry. My guess would be when Charles becomes king and his official duties as monarch multiply.”

Charles rents the castle for several days every August and is often joined by Camilla. “Camilla doesn’t stay too long, she loves her bucket-and-spade holidays in Devon with her grandchildren, so it must have been a thrill for Charles to have Meghan and Harry stay,” says the source. “I’m not even certain the Duchess of Cornwall has stayed for such a long stretch.”

The private holiday puts to rest rumors that Charles is not getting along with his sons, which inspired a rare statement of denial from the Palace. A family member adds to Vanity Fair that the prince is “closer to Harry than ever,” adding that he is forging a “lovely relationship with the duchess.”

“The wedding was a real turning point,” the family member continues. “Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage. The bond between them is very close.” According to the source, the trio spent evenings dining at the castle, reading, walking dogs, and talking. “Charles has been very supportive of Meghan and everything she is going through with her own father. He’s got a real soft spot for her and thinks she’s the best thing to have happened to Harry.”

[From Vanity Fair]

This is not the first time we’ve heard about Charles and Meghan bonding – Harry reportedly introduced Meghan and Charles within a few months of the start of their relationship, and Meghan has apparently been a HUGE fan of Charles since their first meeting, and vice versa – Charles thinks Meghan is a total doll. Allegedly, she’s encouraged Harry to have a much closer relationship with Charles, and she genuinely enjoys a lot of the same things as Charles, like history and books and the environment.

The idea that Meghan and Harry could be in line to take over the Scottish trust is interesting, and I bet Meghan would be all for it. But this also makes me wonder about The Prince’s Trust, Charles’ massive foundation. For years, we’ve heard that Harry and William don’t want to take over The Prince’s Trust when Charles becomes king. What do you want to bet that Meghan and Charles are talking about that as well?

It’s rare that I get jealous of celebrity red carpet duties but this is one of those times. These are photos from a Harry Winston event that just looks amazing. Can you imagine getting paid to model diamonds worth six figures and more? Check out these women rocking these diamonds and precious stones looking pleased as hell. Kaiser reminded me of Ocean’s Eight today and how much jewelry, fashion, hair and makeup there was in that movie. I saw it in the theater and loved it so much. In fact Katie Holmes had a cameo in that.

Katie was in a red satin Zac Posen gown and went full old Hollywood with her hair and makeup. Zac is a friend of Katie’s and has dressed her for the Met Gala many times. This dress has such thoughtful design, with art deco lines and open petal sleeves. My only complaint is that her gold shoes look a little mismatched, but that’s minor.

Naomi Watts had on a floral Erdem gown accented by green velvet tie belt and matching collar. This is so dowdy, especially the print and color. At least it’s tailored well but other than that I dislike this.

Jennifer Hudson’s expression here says it all. She’s more than happy to model this jewelry. She was in a strapless navy gown with a bodice accented by floral applique and a tulle overlay. I’ve never seen tulle used like that, to provide a kind of modesty panel, and it’s clever.

Here’s Angela Sarafyan, who was such a standout in a low cut gown with a corset top and metallic sequin lattice design. I bet it was extremely hard for the Harry Winston people to resist putting a necklace on her, but it works and makes the other jewelry shine. She’s so striking.

President Trump Speaks

I’m not going to say that Donald Trump has been surprisingly quiet on Twitter, because that’s not true – he’s been consistently tweeting all week, including some really dumb tweet-quotes from watching Fox News 24-7. But up until today, he has been shockingly restrained on Twitter about the Brett Kavanaugh nomination. So does he not care? Are his staffers keeping him occupied with back issues of Hustler and a Slinky? Axios has the gossip:

A source who has been talking to President Trump throughout the Kavanaugh crisis told Axios that “you have no idea” how hard it has been to keep him from attacking his Supreme Court nominee’s accuser. A White House official said yesterday: “Hopefully he can keep it together until Monday. That’s only, like, another 48 hours right?”

At a rally in Las Vegas last night, Trump praised Kavanaugh and added with rare restraint: “I’m not saying anything about anybody else. … So we gotta let it play out. … I think is everything is going to be just fine.”

Be smart: Kavanaugh’s Republican strategists are holding it together, but are still nervous about the unknowns — and nervous about additional stories. There’s a constant rumor mill that X publication has more female accusers. (Yesterday’s rumor circulating Trumpworld was that it was the WaPo. Over the weekend, the rumor was Ronan Farrow.) Just very feverish.

[From Axios]

First of all, I bet you $10 that there is another accuser, and she’s currently debating whether or not she even wants to come forward, especially as she’s seeing what Christine Blasey Ford is going through. To that woman – or those women – I plead with you: please come forward. There is legitimate strength in numbers, and we all have your back. As for what Axios says about Trump’s restraint… he’s like a child, and it won’t last. In fact, the cracks are already there. He tweeted this morning about Kavanaugh and Professor Ford:

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don’t matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 21, 2018

I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 21, 2018

She was a 15-year-old child at the time, you absolute monster. And like the many women who Trump has assaulted, this was a time before we were having these kinds of conversations about acquaintance rape, date rape, and what constitutes sexual assault. He has no understanding of how trauma works. Also: if he’s going to claim that there should have been a criminal investigation back then, why can’t there be an FBI investigation right now? This weekend’s tweets are going to be an absolute mess.

WE Day California 2018

You guys probably know by now that I’m an old-school fanatic for The West Wing. I can’t stand the first season, but seasons 2-7 are some of the best television episodes you could ever see. It’s rare for me to be so involved with the characters, to the point where even a decade removed from the show, I still wonder what CJ Cregg and Josh Lyman are Donna are up to. Well, President Jed Bartlet – aka Martin Sheen – still thinks about it too. And he would down for a reboot, since everyone is reboot crazy these days.

President Jed Bartlet has spoken, so what’s next? Just a few short weeks after Rob Lowe said he wants to get “The West Wing” crew back together, Martin Sheen told Page Six he would also love to be a part of a reboot of the Aaron Sorkin political drama.

“Well, of course, I would, but I would be too old for the office now,” he told us on Tuesday while discussing his role in “Anne of Green Gables: Fire and Dew.” “I wouldn’t know how they’d fit me in, but of course I would be delighted. It’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

Sorkin, who created the show and worked on its first four seasons before exiting the series in 2003, told Hollywood Reporter he envisions “This Is Us” star Sterling K. Brown in the Oval Office if the show were to ever be rebooted.

“I have to ask, I’m sorry, who is he?” Sheen told us, quickly adding that he rarely watches anything outside of MSNBC and sports. “I’m watching Notre Dame now every Saturday afternoon. I’m kind of a dumpling, I’m afraid.”

[From Page Six]

I don’t think they should do a “reboot” of The West Wing, like with a whole new cast. I think that could do a continuation show, within the same West Wing universe, just ten years later. Here’s my pitch to TV executives: the timing of “a decade later” would mean that President Matt Santos served two full terms in office, and then he had to watch as the literal WORST Republican candidate assumes the presidency. This Republican is a complete cartoon, an orange buffoon, a racist, a misogynist, a white supremacist who stokes racial and sexist animosity wherever he goes. America is on the brink of a complete fascist takeover. So ex-presidents Matt Santos and Jed Bartlet get together for a drink – this is the pilot episode – and talk about what should happen in the Democratic primaries for the presidential election. They hatch a plan for how they’ll both strategically speak out against the neo-fascist Republican, and how they’ll throw their support in the Democratic primary behind an immensely qualified governor played by… Angela Bassett. They call Josh and Donna and CJ (but not Tobey, for obvious reasons) and figure it out. I WOULD WATCH THAT.

Norm Macdonald Has a Show

Drew Barrymore was a guest on Norm MacDonald’s show on Netflix. (He has a new talk show, which explains why we’re getting his garbage take on issues. Remember how Chelsea Handler had a Netflix talk show that got canceled? I don’t like Chelsea but she was a better choice than Norm.) I didn’t want to give MacDonald any views, but I had some time to kill and watched it. Norm gushed about Drew’s beauty and charisma and was quite creepy overall. Norm talked more than he let Drew talk, it was like a bad podcast and they swore a lot. Drew was as animated as we’ve come to expect from her. I’m not a fan of Drew’s and find her annoying in large doses, but there’s something very genuine about her. You can see this episode on Netflix, but I don’t really recommend it as again it’s cringey and random. The best quotes are below anyway.

They were talking about chatroulette, the random webcam thing and Drew brought up d-ck pics
“I’m here to tell all men. Keep it in your f-ing pants. It’s almost like something jumping out at you. You’re like ‘ah!’ It’s like someone throwing a bucket of water on your face.”

She claims her daughter looks like ET
“I send all these pictures to Steven Spielberg of my daughter because she looks like ET. I can’t believe my karmatic destiny that I would birth ET. Her eyes are giant and on the side. It’s not a joke. My daughter is like the beautiful, feminine version of ET.”

Norm brought up Drew flashing Letterman and said he should flash Oprah
“She doesn’t want to see it either. I’m going to speak on behalf of Oprah.”

Norm asks: “Do you miss cocaine?”
“No. It’s been a very long time. Nothing would make me have a panic attack and seem like a bigger nightmare. I’ve never done hallucinogenics. I drink and I enjoy my life and I get out of my own head. It’s not that like, I’m this militant person of clarity and presence. That just literally seems like my worse nightmare right now…

Later they came around to talking about drugs again
“I’ve never done heroin so I don’t know what that’s like. I’m an upper person.”

[From The Norm MacDonald Show on Netflix]

After that Norm said he was reminded of a quote by Picasso and took the opportunity to gush over Drew again. “‘I do not do drugs, I am drugs,’ and this is the effect you have on people.” Like I said he was creepy through this entire interview. Drew then waxed poetic about being nice to people. “Isn’t every encounter an opportunity to uplift each other? I do march in the army of optimism.” She also talked about her childhood, getting emancipated and dropping out of school and studying and reading on her own. She really likes the poet Bukowski, whom I never could get into. I thought he was like a poet you read in high school and realized was just a drunk a-hole.

As for her quotes about drinking and drugs, it’s interesting to me that she half equates sobriety with being a “militant person of clarity and presence.” You don’t need to drink or do drugs to get out of your head.

Also, you know how Drew Barrymore was spotted out with her ex, Justin Long? Well someone gave quotes to E! confirming that they’re still friends and have been spending time together.
