Melania Trump is not going to be moving to Washington DC next month. She might not ever move to DC, although right now the story is that she’s not going to disrupt Barron’s school year, and the issue will be revisited next summer, basically. So President-elect Trump is looking for a wife-type figure, a woman who can serve as hostess, confidante, and wife surrogate. Everyone thought that person would clearly be Ivanka Trump (Trump’s favorite child), but she kept insisting that she didn’t want to move DC either. Well, guess what? She’s moving to DC.

With 46 days until her father Donald Trump‘s January 20, 2017 inauguration, Ivanka Trump has set her sights on some real estate in the nation’s capital. he future first daughter and her husband Jared Kushner, along with their three children Arabella, 5, Joseph, 3, and 8-month-old Theodore, are planning a move from New York City to Washington D.C.

“Everyone is adjusting to these new circumstances during the transition period, and while Ivanka has no intention of taking a formal role in the administration, she plans to be an advocate for issues she cares deeply about,” a source close to Ivanka tells PEOPLE. “The team is working hard on the final stages of vetting the structure that will be put in place in leading the Trump organization to avoid even the appearance of any conflict of interest. We look forward to providing updates on the corporate structure and other details next week.”

Ivanka serves as Executive Vice President of Development & Acquisitions of the Trump Organization, based in N.Y.C., and also has own line of clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories. Jared is a real estate developer who owns properties in the New Jersey and New York markets. The pair, who were appointed to Trump’s Presidential Transition Team Executive Committee, took on very active roles during the election with the mother of three stumping across the country and speaking at the Republican National Convention in July on behalf of her father. And in November, she sat in on her father’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. On Monday, Ivanka and Donald met with Al Gore to discuss climate change during a “lengthy and very productive” meeting, according to Gore.

In addition, the president-elect requested that Kushner be allowed to sit in on his Presidential Daily Briefings. Though Kushner will be heavily involved, anti-nepotism laws could prevent him from holding an official federal job.

[From People]

This week’s rumor is that Ivanka is going to be her father’s Climate Czar, and that rumor has legs following her meeting with Al Gore yesterday. As for Jared…Trump would love to put Jared in any position, basically. I think Jared is one of the few people Trump trusts completely, and their relationship is still so weird to me. Like, is Jared the son Donald Trump never had but always wanted? Does Jared see Trump as a father figure? I have no idea. But I’m absolutely sure that Ivanka and Jared will be deeply involved in the Trump administration. What’s also a little bit funny to me is that if and when Trump puts his company into a “blind trust” (or “whatever”), I’m sure that he would have loved to simply hand the business over to his favorite child, Ivanka. Like, he wishes he could clone her so she could run the business AND be in Washington with him. But Trump won’t worry about that too much – I’m sure she will be working in the administration and running the business! Because that’s the country we live in now.

Also: why are they house-hunting? Why not just move into the White House?

Mayim Bialik, 40, has a vlog on YouTube which we’ve talked about before, when she was discussing her very close coparenting relationship with her ex husband, whom she divorced in 2012, and how they still spend holidays together. Whatever is going on between Mayim and her ex, she seems to be ready to branch out. In a new episode of her YouTube show, above, Mayim answers questions about current dating terminology and practices. In the description to the video she writes that she hasn’t dated in 20 years and it does show. During the question and answer video she’s woefully uninformed about words like “ghosting”:

We’re going to talk about dating in the 21st century
Something I’ve never done. I feel like I don’t know much about dating in general much less in the 21st century.

North south freakin west? [Interviewer tells her it’s Not Safe for Work] I hope that was a high difficultly question because that’s hard.

When someone says “Hey let’s Netflix and chill” what does that mean?
Come over and let’s have sex. [She got that right]

What does ghosting mean?
Spying on them, on the Internet?

[YouTube via Huffington Post]

She also didn’t know which direction you swipe when you like someone on an app and she didn’t know that this was a heart: Modern Romance) and to date someone from work – someone single. That’s lousy advice though because those situations can end up being uncomfortable for everyone in the long run. Plus who would she date from her show – someone on the Big Bang Theory production crew?

The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan and his longtime love, One Tree Hill actress Hilarie Burton, stepped out with their son Gus, 6, on Monday (December 5).

After making a quick stop at Starbucks, the Grey’s Anatomy alum, 50, walked hand-in-hand with his son in New York City.

The actor recently dished on working with his TWD costar Chandler Riggs.

“I was so impressed with him as a young actor,” Morgan recntly told EW. “I think it’s the finest work he’s done on the show, period. I remember sitting across from him doing that scene and he’s unwrapping his head and, man, he was right there, and I was very, very impressed with him. I remember I went home and I called Andy and I go, “Your kid just knocked it out of the park.” He killed it. That’s all you can ask and all you can hope for.”

He went on to talk about his evil character Negan, who seems to be taking Carl under his wing.

“I just think that if Negan were to have a kid, he would want him to be this kid,” Morgan added. “He respects this kid and maybe he sees a bit of himself in him. His initial read on Carl as a little future serial killer is not only a great line, but there’s something he sees in Carl. Carl never has backed away from Negan. His dad has been in tears and no one else will make eye contact, yet Carl never breaks eye contact with Negan during the lineup or anything else, anything we’ve shot. He’s always pissed and I think there’s just a lot of respect there that Negan has for this kid to grow up in this world as he has and survive as long as he had. Negan just simply respects him.”

gaines2

As we discussed last week, Chip and Joanna Gaines got a rare spot of bad press. The Gaineses are this year’s huge reality show breakout couple, with a hit HGTV show Fixer Upper, and more work and good press than they know what to do with. But last week, Buzzfeed did some digging into Chip and Joanna’s lives in Waco, Texas, and Buzzfeed learned that their pastor has a history of making offensive statements about LGBTQ people. The basic gist of the story was “The Gaineses go to a church that preaches gay conversion therapy and the sins of gay marriage.” Fixer Upper has also never featured a same-sex couple, and some wondered if the Gaineses believed everything that their pastor preaches. Of course, other people thought that Buzzfeed was “attacking” Christians for “going to church.” Again, no one is doing that. They can belong to any church they want. But they can’t discriminate against gay people on HGTV.

So, what’s new? Well, here’s something nice – I guess? Chip Gaines tweeted on Saturday:

Regardless of our decision to make a statement about all this craziness, or not, I ask that people please! respect @KateAurthur & @ginamei

— Chip Gaines (@chippergaines) December 3, 2016

Those are the Twitter handles of the two journalists who initially reported about the Gaines’ church. Part of me thinks he was just trying to tell his fans to go easy on the journalists, because this has become a hot-button pop culture BS moment just like that Duck Dynasty mess a few years ago. Another part of me thinks that he was actually making it easier for his fans to target those journalists on Twitter by posting their handles. You decide.

Then on Sunday, Chip tweeted this:

In times of trouble.. you’ll find the gaines family at church.

— Chip Gaines (@chippergaines) December 4, 2016

So this is the message he wants to send: they will not give up their church or their faith. They will continue to go to the same church, even when their pastor preaches gay conversion therapy and anti-gay marriage crap. Again, that’s fine, and their personal choice. But are they discriminating against LGBTQ people in their personal and professional lives? Have they rejected potential clients because of the clients’ sexuality? Do they refuse to work with gay crew members? And on and on. Those are still the questions I have.

madge billboard

Madonna has been named Billboard’s Woman of the Year, and I have to be completely honest with you: I did not want to sit down and read this profile at all. Madonna’s profiles and interviews are almost always the worst. But I kept seeing quotes from the piece, and I pulled myself together and read it. And you know what? This is the best interview I’ve read with Madonna in a really long time. It helps that she’s talking to someone she likes, and someone I like: Elizabeth Banks. Banks worships Madonna and gives Madge the platform to talk about her current headspace these days. It’s a focused, interesting interview which you can read here. Some highlights:

Ageism, worries about relevancy: “I don’t care. It’s the rest of society that cares. I don’t ever think about my age until someone says something about it. I feel that I have wisdom, experience, knowledge and a point of view that is important. Can a teenager relate to that? Probably not. But that’s OK. I understand that. “Relevance” is a catchphrase that people throw out because we live in a world full of discrimination. Age is only brought up with regard to women. It’s connected to sexism, chauvinism and misogyny. When Leonardo is 60 years old, no one is going to talk about his relevance. Am I relevant as a female in this society that hates women? Well, to people who are educated and are not chauvinists or misogynists, yes.”

How she feels about the election outcome: “It felt like someone died. It felt like a combination of the heartbreak and betrayal you feel when someone you love more than anything leaves you, and also a death. I feel that way every morning; I wake up and say, “Oh, wait, Donald Trump is still the president,” and it wasn’t a bad dream that I had. It feels like women betrayed us. The percentage of women who voted for Trump was insanely high.”

Why she thinks Trump won: “Women hate women. That’s what I think it is. Women’s nature is not to support other women. It’s really sad. Men protect each other, and women protect their men and children. Women turn inward and men are more external. A lot of it has do with jealousy and some sort of tribal inability to accept that one of their kind could lead a nation. Other people just didn’t bother to vote because they didn’t like either candidate, or they didn’t think Trump had a chance in the world. They took their hands off the wheel and then the car crashed.

Whether she was surprised by Trump’s victory: “Of course. I was devastated, surprised, in shock. I haven’t really had a good night’s sleep since he has been elected. We’re f—ed.

Whether she knows any Trump voters: “Yeah, and I’ve gotten into major arguments. They [say they] would rather have a successful businessman running the country than a woman who lies. Just absurd. But people don’t have faith in government as we know it. We live in a country that’s run by bankers. In a way, it makes sense that Donald Trump is the president. Because money rules. Not intelligence, not experience, not a moral compass, not the ability to make wise decisions, not the ability to think of the future of the human race.

Whether she’s ever met Trump: “I wouldn’t call him a friend or anything, but I’ve certainly met him. I did a photo shoot years ago at [Trump’s] Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach [Fla.] for a Versace campaign. He’s a very friendly guy, charismatic in that boastful, macho, alpha-male way. I found his political incorrectness amusing. Of course, I didn’t know he was going to be running for president 20 years later. People like that exist in the world, I’m OK with it. They just can’t be heads of state. I just can’t put him and Barack Obama in the same sentence, same room, same job description.

[From Billboard]

There’s been a lot of analysis of the demographics of the election, and there will continue to be thinkpieces and books and studies about how Trump won and why Hillary Clinton lost. While I still think it’s crazy that Trump got any significant support from women, I wish Madonna would go further into the demographic breakdown: white women voted for Trump in alarming numbers. College-educated white women were the only sub-group of white women to vote for Hillary by a majority. The rest of the white ladies? They voted for Trump by a clear majority. Hispanic women, Asian women, African-American women, they all voted for Hillary Clinton with clear majorities. It’s not a clear-cut case of “women don’t support other women.” It’s more a case of a majority of white women voting for their white privilege rather than women’s rights across the board.

You know what disturbed me about that Bernardo Bertolucci story yesterday? How many people were full-on raging about the use of the word “rape.” Semantic parsing isn’t a good look, especially when the discussion involved an actress (Maria Schneider) who explicitly said she felt like she had been raped, not to mention the discussion of Bertolucci admitting in 2013 that he colluded with Marlon Brando to assault Schneider, who was only 19 years old at the time. For whatever record, rape is defined as the “unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim.” What happened to Schneider constituted rape. She felt like she was raped. Bertolucci admits that they did not get her consent for certain parts of the scene.

But now that Bertolucci’s 2013 comments have gone viral, he wants to correct the record once again, lest his entire filmography be tainted by a crime he clearly admitted to just a few years ago. He issued a statement yesterday in his native tongue (Italian), and the statement was translated by Variety. Here you go:

“I would like, for the last time, to clear up a ridiculous misunderstanding that continues to generate press reports about ‘Last Tango in Paris’ around the world. Several years ago at the Cinemathèque Francaise someone asked me for details on the famous ‘butter scene.’ I specified, but perhaps I was not clear, that I decided with Marlon Brando not to inform Maria that we would have used butter. We wanted her spontaneous reaction to that improper use [of the butter]. That is where the misunderstanding lies. Somebody thought, and thinks, that Maria had not been informed about the violence on her. That is false! Maria knew everything because she had read the script, where it was all described. The only novelty was the idea of the butter. And that, as I learned many years later, offended Maria. Not the violence that she is subjected to in the scene, which was written in the screenplay.”

[From Variety]

Again, the semantic parsing does no one any good. A teenage actress thought she was going to be filming an already violent and emotionally wrought scene, and then she was “surprised” by her costar and director when they made the decision to assault her with butter for a more “authentic” reaction. Again, consent is the issue. Bertolucci’s statement is basically like “we didn’t get her consent but it’s cool because it’s just butter.” It reminds me of the Stanford rape case and what the rapist’s father dismissed his son’s crime as “twenty minutes of action.” Oh, you just raped her with butter without her consent? Case closed, right?

Expectant mama Marion Cotillard radiated the red carpet at the photo call for her latest film, Assassin’s Creed, at Hotel Bristol in Paris, France on Monday (December 5).

The actress, 41, dressed her growing baby bump in a Dries Van Noten frock featuring black and white horizontal stripes. She completed her look with leather pointed ankle boots with stiletto heels.

Last month, the French actress rocked the red carpet with Brad Pitt to promote their film Allied.

Weeks prior, Cotillard attended the Los Angeles premiere of Allied alongside Pitt. The pregnant actress looked radiant in a navy Christian Dior maternity dress at the event.

She recently dished on doing love scenes with her hunky costar in their romantic thriller.

“We rehearse and had a very determined choreography, and then it allows you freedom. When you know exactly what your body will do, then you can act and you can be free to give the emotions and give the feelings because you won’t think, ‘What am I going to do next? Am I going to go on top of him?’ It’s an awkward situation,” Cotillard told reporters. “We laughed because you need to get it out because this is so weird. And so you get this time of looking at each other and saying, ‘OK, this is so weird.’ And then we go into this and then I’m going on top of you and then we are going to kiss.”

And she helped the father-of-six with his French skills as well.

“He had this commitment to do the best he could, which was really, really impressive, so I helped him by being very tough,” she shared. “I was very honest with him. But at the same time, I really wanted to support him in this process that I went through, and I know how hard it is.”

Cotillard and her actor-director beau, Guillaume Canet, 43, are expecting their second child together. They are already parents to 5-year-old son Marcel.

Recently, Cotillard announced her second pregnancy, and slammed rumors that she’s responsible for the breakup between Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Meanwhile, the Fight Club star, 52, has been cleared of child abuse allegations, although his custody battle continues.

You may have forgotten, but earlier this year, the British press went full-throttle against the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. There were several major critical stories about their laziness, and Will and Kate honestly didn’t do much to push back on it. One of the most interesting stories was about how William barely works part-time at the East Anglian Air Ambulance, despite using that job as an excuse for why he can’t do more royal work. When William was barely eight months into the EAAA job, sources claimed he was already “bored” and looking for ways to take time off, like the month he took off for Christmas last year. Basically, William barely clocks in twenty hours a week at the EAAA, just enough time for some photo-ops a few times a month, here and there, when he feels like it. I bring this up because William made a speech yesterday for Heads Together, the mental health charity/whatever that he started with Harry and Kate. William talked about how he knows how work can feel “overwhelming.”

Prince William took his mental health campaign to the workplace on Monday.

“Work, as we all know, can at times be a source of great fulfillment, growth and fun, but also at times a significant source of stress sometimes — if we are honest, to the point of its being overwhelming,” he told a meeting of the Heads Together campaign, the mental-health initiative he kicked off with wife Princess Kate and brother Prince Harry in April.

“Catherine, Harry and I have been campaigning on this issue for only a few months now, but what we have observed already is that when we get our heads together when we talk and listen to family, to friends and colleagues, we share the load; we reduce the problem; we realize we are not alone and we break down the barriers that prevent us from getting the help we need,” he said. “It is really that simple: a problem shared is a problem halved.”

He praised businesses that had made mental health a priority while urging others to do the same. At his work with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service — where he has spoken previously about the “sad, dark” moments he faces —he says they are supportive.

“As a pilot working with an air ambulance charity, I have seen first-hand how work can affect individuals’ mental health. But I have also seen how an employer can create an environment where it is as unremarkable to talk about feeling a bit ‘down’ as it is to admit to having a cold,” he told the gathering at Unilever’s headquarters in London. (The company is a founding partner of Heads Together.)

“All of the air ambulance team know that we can get help for what is going on in our heads if we need it. We know where to turn, as practical help is well sign-posted, and we know that no one will judge us if we do admit to difficulties. Mental health exists just as physical health exists. It is no big deal.”

[From The Daily Mail and People]

I’m not mocking the idea that people in stressful jobs need to feel like they can talk about their mental health. I’m not saying that at all. Doctors, first responders, firefighters, police officers, and anyone in a stressful job should feel like they can talk about mental health without being stigmatized. And if that was William’s message, I would be all for it. But when he tries to personalize it, that’s when I’m left wondering if he feels “overwhelmed” by the two or three shifts he works a week (if that). Or is William “overwhelmed” by the handful of royal appearances he makes a month? Is the message “let’s not stigmatize those with mental health issues”? Or is the message “Normal Bill gets stressed out like all of the normal blokes”?
