When I first saw the headline “Why Kiefer Sutherland Decided Not to Give Up Alcohol” I had to read it a few times. Usually headlines like this refer to someone who has decided to quit drinking, not someone who has actively decided to keep boozing. But this is Kiefer Sutherland, someone who has no…

Did you know that Friday Night Lights premiered 10 years ago this week? For some of us it’s been a decade of Clear Eyes and Full Hearts. For others, ahem, those of you who ignored my nagging and only just gave in recently, it’s been a couple of years. For all of us, it’s been …well… it’s been har…

Poussey is engaged and this is one of the sweetest announcements I’ve seen on social media (and typically I hate them).

On the same day that we learned that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, Paramount dropped the first teaser trailer for Brad Pitt’s new film, Allied, costarring Marion Cotillard. In fact, the same day that we learned about Jolie’s divorce filing, Page Six had an exclusive story about how Brad and Marion hooked up on the set of the film and that was one of the reasons why Jolie filed. The whole thing became a clusterwhoops of scandal and gossip, especially when everyone was like “Oh and Marion is pregnant too!” As it turns out, Marion is in fact pregnant… and she says that it’s Guillaume Canet’s child. She also basically said that she didn’t have an affair with Brad, so whatever. I tend to believe her, but who even knows? Anyway, now that the dust is settling a little bit around the Brangelina split, Paramount released their full-length trailer for Allied:

It looks… okay. It looks like an amalgam of Casablanca, Inglorious Basterds, The English Patient and Foyle’s War. It also looks like Marion has the sexier role and Brad seems to be phoning it in a little bit?

I also think this is going to be so messy to promote. It’s clear – to me, at least – that Marion wants no part in Brad’s shenanigans, and she doesn’t want a lot of drama around her second pregnancy, presumably. It would be easier to promote this film if Marion and Brad actually had an affair and that was the gossip, you know? Instead, the gossip is terrible, and it’s about whether Brad hit one of his children.

Entertainment Weekly ran a piece a week ago about whether the gossip around Brad will help the film, and one “veteran Hollywood publicist” claimed: “Whenever there is a rumor that two hot movie-star types met on set and are having an affair, it’s not a bad thing. No one at the studio should go out of their way to squash it, whether it’s true or not.” Yeah, but… what if Marion doesn’t want to play that game? EW also says that it will be a breeze to get both of the actors booked on any show, which I do believe. There’s going to be a major competition to see who gets Brad’s first interview.

It was confirmed today that Ben Affleck’s Live By Night will open in limited release Christmas Day. Which is no surprise. As soon as they announced that the film would premiere in January, there was always the assumption that this mean that the studio would drop it in theatres for an Oscar-qualif…

Constance Wu, who plays Jessica Huang on the show Fresh Off the Boat, has picked a somewhat ridiculous platform on which to fight for equality. For the backstory, NBC originally greenlighted a script from the trio behind the hit show Superstore called Mail Order Family. Just in case you were wondering, that is not a play on words, the premise was to be about a widowed father who sends away for a mail order bride to help raise his two daughters. It was based on writer Jackie Clarke’s experience with her own father having done this. She once described her whole sordid tale on an episode of This American Life. Spoiler – Clarke’s experience was miserable and she dislikes everyone involved. Understandably, the show received much backlash and NBC canceled it very soon after purchasing it.

What is not understandable is Constance posting this tweet last Friday:

If the woman is FIRST billed & paid 2X what the male actor makes then I’ll be OK w/ Mail-Order Bride comedy, in fact I’ll root for her

— Constance Wu (@ConstanceWu) September 30, 2016

But then she rethought her tweet and decided she should clarify herself so she tweeted this:

@ConstanceWu I mean I’ll root for her anyway. But anyone who thinks this is a ridiculous request oughta look into themselves
