Ben Stiller appeared on Howard Stern’s show yesterday with his surgeon to promote prostate cancer awareness. Two years ago, Ben was diagnosed with prostate cancer, resulting in having his prostate removed. Ben was diagnosed after increasing Gleason scores from successive Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests led to an MRI and eventually a biopsy. The American Cancer Society recommends PSAs starting at the age of 50 but Ben’s doctor began administering them to Ben when he was 46. He was diagnosed at age 48.

Ben Stiller says he survived deadly prostate cancer two years ago because of early detection – and now he wants to spread the word about getting tested.

The 50-year-old actor said in an interview on The Howard Stern Show Tuesday morning that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 48.

“It came out of the blue for me,” Stiller said. “I had no idea.”

Although Stiller says he had no history of prostate cancer in his family and had no symptoms, his doctor suspected the cancer due to a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test, a simple blood test he received during his annual physical.

“If I hadn’t gotten the test, my doctor started giving it to me at 46, I still wouldn’t know,” he said.

Stiller added, “I wanted to talk about it because of the test, because I feel like the test saved my life.”

Once the diagnosis was made, Stiller had to wait six week for his body to heal from the biopsy to have surgery to remove his prostate.

“I was diagnosed on Friday the 13th, then I had until August 23rd to get ready for the surgery. So I just had the summer to hang out and think about it,” he said.

Prostate cancer is the second deadliest cancer in men, right behind lung cancer. You can read Ben’s essay on his cancer and treatments here. In addition to his experience, shared with a touch of humor, he adds information and links about prostate cancer and PSA tests. He also writes that he is two-years cancer free.

Why bring it up after two years of keeping it to himself? Much like the discussion on mammograms, the PSA test has come under scrutiny for finding lesser, low-risk cancers that can lead to “over-treatment” like radiation which can prove harmful to the patient. Ben is speaking out very much in favor of PSAs and early detection, claiming his cancer would have gone undetected until too late. I’ve discussed this with family members in the medical profession. There are valid arguments on both sides. However, we lost my father in law to prostate cancer a decade ago. He had three grandchildren due that year, one from each of his children, and died two weeks before the first one was born. As I am not a trained physician, I guess my heart is winning out in this one so I would probably advocate for the test.

In 2014, Frances Bean Cobain got secretly married to Isaiah Silva, who was then her boyfriend of several years. Frances was only 21 years old at the time, and in the most un-shocking news ever, the marriage fell apart quickly and Frances filed for divorce earlier this year. The divorce is absolutely going to last longer than the marriage – there’s already been significant back-and-forth between Silva and Cobain about money, her dad’s guitar and more. But this might be the weirdest chapter of their divorce saga: Silva claims that Frances Bean is a hoarder.

Frances Bean Cobain’s “online shopping habit and hoarding” has forced her estranged husband Isaiah Silva out of their house. While the couple is currently divorcing — and fighting over Kurt Cobain’s valuable guitar Frances gave Silva as a gift at their June 2014 wedding — reports say he has now been forced out of their LA house by the court.

But we’re told by a friend of Silva’s, “The weird truth is that Frances Cobain’s house is virtually unlivable because of Frances’ hoarding. Frances spends her days doing lots and lots of online shopping. Virtually every room is filled with boxes of stuff Frances has ordered from online retailers and never even bothered to open — shoes, clothing, art supplies, music equipment, and even several large-screen TVs.”

The insider said that Silva was already splitting his time between his ex-girlfriend’s house and his parents’ place.

As part of the interim agreement before a final settlement can be reached, Frances must pay Silva $12,000 a month in spousal support for four months.

Hoarding is a fascinating thing to me, and I’m sometimes surprised by who is actually a hoarder. Like, there’s a fine line between being a hoarder and simply keeping impeccable archives, right? Is Beyonce a hoarder or does she just keep impeccable archives? Is Frances Bean a hoarder or does she just like to shop online? She’s an heiress to a large fortune, and it doesn’t sound like she’s buying completely crazy-expensive stuff. Like, she’s not hoarding Warhol paintings or whatever. She’s hoarding clothes, TVs, etc. I don’t know. Maybe it’s crap. But it’s such a weird claim, right?

These are photos of Frances out with her mom (Courtney Love) over the weekend in Paris. They went to the Givenchy show and the Enfants Riches Deprimes show.

Tonight is the vice presidential candidate debate, and since the first presidential debate Open Post was such a success, we decided to give you a special Open Post for the would-be veeps. The debate airs at 9 pm on every network and every cable news channel and it will feature Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) and Governor Mike Pence (R-Indiana). We’ll also have coverage of the debate tomorrow, although I’m not expecting the Veep Debate to be as major – sniffle – as the first presidential debate.

As I discussed after Kaine’s speech at the DNC in August, I really like Kaine. I liked him when he was my governor, and I like him as my senator and I’m sure going to love him when he’s the Vice President of the United States. I’ve had the pleasure of voting for him twice now (as governor and senator) and I’m looking forward to voting for him next month. He comes across like an extremely decent guy because that’s really who he is. But don’t be fooled – he’s also a very savvy politician, and I have no doubt that he’s prepped hard for this debate.

As for Pence… God help us all. The thing about it is, Pence is actually an awful candidate… except when he’s standing next to Donald Trump. Trump makes Pence look positively presidential and measured. Pence has a long history of extreme views on LGBT issues, reproductive choice, unions, immigration, education and more – go here for a primer.

The debate will be moderated by CBS News’ Elaine Quijano. It’s also taking place in Virginia, which pleases me to no end! Longwood University is hosting the debate and I tend to think that Kaine will have an advantage with a hometown crowd, even if Farmville, VA is not particularly a hotbed of liberalism. Kaine was simply a really popular governor and I think there’s a lot of residual affection for him. Still, this debate is going to be sadly lacking in Joe Biden yelling “MALARKEY!” at everyone and everything. I hope Kaine does go Full Biden and says something about malarkey or shenanigans though.

CB and I will be tweeting a bit tonight too! You can follow me here @KaiseratCB. You can follow CB here @Celebitchy.
