Gordon Ramsay is like Marmite – you either like him or you don’t. With the proliferation of cooking shows and competitions, Ramsay sets himself apart by becoming the devil incarnate when the food preparation falls below his expectations. But for anyone that has watched his cook-along recipes or many who have worked with him, the assumption is that Ramsay merely plays up the beast for the camera. However, Ramsay insists that no, that really is a side of his personality that comes out in the kitchen. Ramsay’s fourth Las Vegas restaurant, Fish & Chips, is opening this month so Vegas Magazine talked to him about food and his wild on-air temperament. You can read the whole thing here, below are some highlights:

On his TV personality: That jacket goes on and I become a different beast because it’s about standards and I want to be remembered for that. So am I hamming it up for the camera because I think it looks good? Far from it. It’s real. So that level of passion gets misconstrued for anger. I’m live, it’s just the way I am.

On his regrets: There are times I’ve felt I’ve gone too far but yeah, I’ve made amends to pull it back up and put it back on track. Yeah definitely, but I suppose that’s the guy I am. It’s all or nothing. I don’t think it’s… listen, you guys nominated Donald Trump for president! That guy thinks it’s a reality TV show. No one has told him yet that this is real. So anyway, those closest to me and those that work alongside me, not for me—because we are all a team—will give you the real insight.

On not sacrificing his craft to fame: I started from zero and it’s so incredible. So I can’t sit back at 50. Am I ready to stop? No. I’ve found the balance in terms of family, profession, and then this sort of empire size. I have seen so many chefs fall to the wayside because they got wrapped up in the glamour of fame and adulation—it’s gone to their head and they are turning out a pile of s–t behind the scenes. That would be the death of me—I couldn’t live with myself on that one.

On his legacy:
My legacy would be just like my mum taught me: It’s important to share and keep both feet firmly on the ground. Continue with that and I think I’ll be in business a long time.

[From Vegas Magazine]

Chefs can be monsters, just ask any poor beleaguered sous chef. Does Ramsay take it too far? Probably. And I think producers count on him to do so. You don’t name a show Hell’s Kitchen and expect someone to get hugged after a collapsed soufflé. I don’t watch his competition shows so all I’ve seen is the man who’s an absolute sucker for his pups. Maybe he really does have a Jekyll/Hyde personality? He is, however, truly one hell of a cook. We use his steak preparation exclusively.

According to his wife of twenty years, Tana, kitchen Ramsay is a trumped up Ramsay. She says the impression people have of him, “isn’t the man I’m married to. He loves being surrounded by the kids and their friends. He can be strict but he can be very soft. That is who he is.”

I’m pretty sure we’ve known for a while that Brandi Glanville is bisexual. In her memoirs, she’s made references to relationships – sexual and romantic – she’s had with women in the past. If I had to guess, I would say that Brandi falls on the “mostly heterosexual” part of the Kinsey scale, but she’s open to relationships and dalliances with women. Well, Page Six has a scoop! Page Six says that Brandi had a two-week fling with Cara Cora, a well-known chef/food-related personality. Cat Cora recently split with her wife of 17 years, although the split happened well before Cat met Brandi.

Things got a little hot in the kitchen of Brandi Glanville’s new cooking show, we’re told. Glanville and celebrity chef Cat Cora — who is one of the judges on the upcoming competition series “My Kitchen Rules” — had a fling while shooting the Fox show. Insiders say that she “had this whole lesbian relationship” with Cora, who recently divorced her wife, Jennifer, after being together 17 years. We’re told that the pair were “hooking up” for about two weeks and enjoyed spending time together.

But Glanville cooled things off with the former “Iron Chef” star because she didn’t want to be in a serious relationship with another woman. “They’re just friends now,” said the source.

As Page Six reported, Glanville is now dating a single father who she met on Tinder. The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star has talked about her flirtations with the same sex in the past.

“I love beautiful people, and if you’re a man you’re a man, if you’re a woman you’re a woman. I’m not a lesbian, and I’m not straight.” she told HuffPo Live in 2014.

Cora’s reps did not respond to a request for comment by deadline.

[From Page Six]

Well… I don’t think this is scandalous in the least? Cat Cora was rebounding and probably looking for something fun. Brandi’s whole shtick is that she’s a fun party girl and she’s open to new experiences. They both went into their two-week thing with their eyes wide open, and it sounds like they both knew it wasn’t going to be forever, and there are no hard feelings. Am I the only one who thinks Cat is cute? She’s got a great Southern accent. Also: Brandi is on Tinder??? That’s what is gross to me.

It was a pretty quiet weekend in World War Brange after it was reported on Friday that they’ve reached a temporary custody agreement. Sources on Brad Pitt’s side continue to portray him as a “shattered man”, overcome by sadness, caring only for the welfare of his children, while Angelina Jolie ca…

I just read though like two dozen comments on a fashion blog where people had really, really strong feelings about Alicia Vikander’s eye makeup in this Porter Magazine shoot. Do people really need to have strong feelings about it? Perhaps. On one side, it’s nice to see Alicia do an editorial with a less “natural” style, because I often think her red carpet style is too “undone” and “natural.” Like, I would love it if she did some serious smoky eyes for the red carpet. But I also think that these Porter photos make her look really tired, and like a kid wearing too much makeup. Anyway, Alicia chatted with Porter about her boyfriend, Brexit and ballet. Some highlights:

On Michael Fassbender: “We’ve never hidden the fact we’re a couple. He’s extremely hardworking. He was like, ‘Give me something new! I just need a new idea. I need to do it differently.’ I just thought that was cool. Because that was what I was trying to do, too. To push each other and come up with new ideas each time.”

On Brexit: “I couldn’t believe my eyes. I am European. I grew up in a small country. Without it, I would not be where I am right now in my career – I wouldn’t have been able to live with my three girlfriends in London. As a foreigner, I probably wouldn’t have been cast in Anna Karenina if they’d had to pay for a working visa. I hope here in America that it opens people’s eyes that you can’t just let things happen. You need to get involved.”

She became friends with Tove Lo & Icona Pop’s Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo while she was a ballet student in Stockholm: “I kind of set myself the rule that I was going to find friends who weren’t part of that [ballet scene], to get a break. They were like the cool girls. That was kind of my rave period. I couldn’t even drink because I had to go to school, but it was kind of a relief to go out and dance.”

On speaking English: “You can seem reserved when it’s not your own language, because you think about what you want to say. And you get frustrated. The worst thing is when you start to sound fluent, so people assume that you are, but you don’t have a tenth of the vocabulary as everyone else.”

[From The Evening Standard]

I don’t think she comes across as reserved when she speaks English, but I do find her uber-posh English accent annoying, as I’ve said before, which meant a lot of you were yelling at me. Like, I think it’s great that she’s so fluent that she feels comfortable enough to take English-speaking roles and do all of this press in the UK and America. All of that is awesome and it speaks to her education, drive and ambition. But for me, personally, the posh English accent that she’s adopted sounds so strangled and fake and it’s one the reasons I find it difficult to watch her films. ¯_(?)_/¯

As for what she says about Brexit… yes, I’m sure Brexit will really affect so many actors and so many European and British productions. It’s going to be such a mess.

FFN_MUG_Amber_Rose_100116_52191519

Amber Rose is currently competing on this season of Dancing with the Stars. Apparently, she’s not doing very well, but I believe that the point of this exercise is the extension of Amber’s brand, the “mainstreaming” of Amber’s message about body-positivity, sex-positivity, etc. It’s likely not a coincidence that Amber hosted another SlutWalk – aimed at reclaiming the pejoratives aimed at women and their sexuality – in the middle of DWTS run this weekend. I’m including some photos of Amber from the SlutWalk in this post.

Anyway, last week, Amber said that she felt body shamed by DWTS judge Julianne Hough. Hough had said, on air, that she felt “uncomfortable” watching Amber’s dance, and Amber felt that Hough was possibly “uncomfortable” watching a curvier girl attempt to dance. Hough later said she didn’t mean it that way, and I defended Amber a little bit, saying that she’s entitled to her feelings and if she felt body shamed, she probably was. But on last night’s episode, Amber apologized to Julianne and they sort of worked through their sh-t on air.

Amber Rose publicly apologized to Julianne Hough on Monday evening’s episode of Dancing with the Stars for claiming that the judge “body shamed” her. On week three’s Sept. 26 performance, Rose performed a salsa to the tunes of Jennifer Lopez’s “Booty.” During the number, Rose wrapped her leg around pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy and he dipped her towards the ground. As Hough watched during the live performance, she remarked to fellow judge Bruno Tonioli, “I actually feel a little uncomfortable.”

After performing her week four Argentine Tango on Monday night, Rose addressed the drama during the live show – and apologized to Hough.

“Like I said in the package, when you said that I felt very embarrassed and I felt like you weren’t talking about the dance. But if I misunderstood, then I apologize. I’m a very positive person, I don’t like to argue or bicker or make things weird,” Rose, 32, said to Hough.

Hough, 28, then stood up, clapped for the model and clarified her week three commentary.

“I would like to say one thing also. The thing that I love so much about dance is that dance is a universal platform for people to express themselves – any person. Whether that is age or height, body shape, ethnicity, sexual orientation. It is something that people can express themselves to do,” Hough began. “And for me, I am a huge supporter of that and that alone. As a judge on this show, I am here to solely judge you and everyone else in this competition for only the dancing. So I want you to know that.”

After Rose received her scores (24/30), she and Hough could be seen chatting and hugging after the show went to commercial break. Backstage, Rose spoke to reporters about clearing the air.

“Last week was really hard for me,” she said. “When she said that … I was just like, ‘How did my salsa make you that uncomfortable?’ But she said that it wasn’t like that and it was just pertaining to my dance and I believe her. So, I love that it’s just all positivity now and just moving forward. People react to things differently. I wouldn’t have reacted that way, but everyone does,” she continued. “It’s cool. I’m glad that it’s over and done and we’re just moving forward.”

[From People]

I think Amber was perhaps being oversensitive, although Julianne’s “uncomfortable” statement really could be taken in different ways. It was good that Amber was the bigger person and offered an apology to Julianne, and that both women got to talk about their perspectives. It’s not like Julianne said that Amber has no business dancing, and it’s not like Amber said Julianne is a terrible person. It was a misunderstanding based on a vague statement that could be left up to interpretation. I’m glad both women worked it out.

Intro for October 4, 2016

Dear Gossips,

As mentioned in yesterday’s open, Kim’s Convenience, Canada’s first sitcom with an Asian cast, was scheduled to premiere tonight at on CBC at 9pm. As also mentioned, many Canadians will be watching the Toronto Blue Jays play the Baltimore Orioles tonight in the wildcard game at …

demiglamour

You have to hand it to Demi Lovato, she really sticks to her talking points, like obsessively so. Sometimes that means she makes a difference in the lives of youth at risk for eating disorders and self harming and sometimes that means she’s feuding with other celebrities over petty things. Demi covers the November issue of Glamour Magazine, where she looks like she swapped faces with Zoe Kravitz. Does anyone else see that? It’s a mixture of makeup and Photoshop I think. As we’ve come to expect from Demi, who last told off a fan for not drawing her body with realistic proportions, she has some strong ideas about how women should look. Apparently that extends to judging other women for not meeting her standards. Demi also talked to Glamour about being “triggered” by things that remind her of her difficult childhood, by seeing thin women, and by seeing people use her former drug of choice, cocaine.

On the negative response to her “Body Say” images
You don’t say anything, because you can never win. Whether they’re saying that you’re ugly, or that you’re a whore, or that you’re a bad role model, or something else, you’re never gonna win.

On exploring sexuality in her image and music
We live in an imbalanced society when it comes to encouraging male sexuality and discouraging female sexuality. In 20 years I hope we’ll look back like, Wow, that’s how it used to be.

Working too much reminds her of her unhealthy past

But I was on such a platform[at Disney] that gave me the rest of my career—I couldn’t complain. [So now] whenever our schedules start to get busy, I start getting triggered because the things I used to do to cope were unhealthy. When I have a long day, I think, if [I went back to those things], I’d be able to get through it. But we now work with our manager, and we have amazing schedules.

Question: You’ve said before, in regard to Taylor Swift, “Don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work.” How do you see yourself doing the work?
Just speaking out. I’m not afraid to talk about the fact that women get paid less than men in the United States and how unfair that is. Talking about it at all is doing the work. And I think every woman does her part in some way. But I think in certain situations, certain people could be doing more if they’re going to claim that as part of their brand. To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.

Question: Well, there are many kinds of “normal” bodies. I think what you’re getting at is there’s just one type of body in that squad.
It’s not realistic. And I think that having a song and a video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment. We all do things that aren’t, but I have to ask myself, Am I content with calling myself a feminist? Yes, because I speak out.

Question: Do things besides a busy schedule still trigger you?
Yeah, of course. Seeing cocaine in movies. I’ve never watched The Wolf of Wall Street. I can’t. I don’t like to go out to clubs, because I find myself seeing remnants of drugs in the bathroom. I did the Victoria’s Secret Swim Special, and being surrounded by supermodels’ bodies was triggering to me. I remember asking, “How do you maintain your figure?” Some said, “I really have to work at it.” Others said, “It’s genetics.” It was interesting to hear that it wasn’t through unhealthy [behaviors]. It was a great learning experience. I still felt sexy, having a different body than these women. I had Wilmer there, who loved my curves—that helped.

[From Glamour]

Do you see how that question about Swift went? Demi was asked about feminism as it related to her feud with Taylor. She answered that very sensibly and then somehow turned it around into models and thin women not being “real” or “normal,” as if that’s a related topic. I really liked how the Glamour interviewer called her on it. Being thin or out of the “average” range is not the same as not being “normal.” There are people who are under and over a healthy BMI, but that’s a different metric entirely. Plus, say what you will about Taylor Swift, she does try to be inclusive with her squad and has had average-sized women at her parties, like Uzo Aduba and Lena Dunham. Taylor usually hangs out with other singers, actresses and models and women in those professions tend to be thinner than the general population. So Demi’s point is lousy for several reasons, particularly the fact that she claims to be body positive and inclusive. Funny how that doesn’t extend to women who are thinner than her. It’s like the only body type that deserves praise is her own. Also, it’s telling that being around models is “triggering” to her. That’s their job to be thin. It’s not personal.

I’ll say something nice now, she looks very cute with freckles.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch covers the November issue of Vanity Fair and opens up about welcoming his first child, son Christopher, with wife Sophie Hunter on June 1.

On how fatherhood has changed him: “Having a baby—it’s massive. And on a very unexpected level. Suddenly I understood my parents much more profoundly than I ever had before. I was expecting, with Hamlet, that it might be a hindrance to be a father, because it’s all about being a son. But it’s the opposite. You understand much more about being a son, becoming a father.”

Tilda Swinton, with whom he costars in Dr. Strange, on how fatherhood has change him: “My fondest impression of him is as a new husband besotted by his girl, and a new father enchanted by his boy. I think he knows that he wants—and has—a life first and foremost, that his life suits and nourishes him and that it makes the world go round.”

On his superfans dubbed ‘Cumberbitches’: “There are people who believe that my wife is a P.R. stunt and my child is a P.R. stunt. I think really it’s to do with the idea that the ‘Internet’s boyfriend’ can’t actually belong to anyone else but the Internet. It’s impossible he belongs to anyone but me. And that’s what stalking is. That’s what obsessive, deluded, really scary behavior is.”

A couple of weeks ago, Kristen Stewart went dramatically blonde. I said I liked the blonde, mostly because I really, really hated Kristen’s previous hair look, which was half-fried blonde and half-dark-roots, and all-unwashed. Many of you disagreed though, and I understand why: the blonde was too yellow, and she did look washed out. Well, now Kristen has changed up her hair a little bit more. These photos are from last night’s New York Film Festival premiere of Certain Women. Kristen seems to have gone shorter, although the blonde still looks like a single-process job that doesn’t really work on her. She truly gives off a Billy Idol vibe.

For the NYFF premiere, Kristen wore this Sandro Paris suit which… no, I don’t like it. I don’t mind that Kristen wears suits/pants/whatever. She’s more comfortable in pants, I get that. But she has the worst taste in dressy pants and trousers. This suit looks so dated and low-quality.

I know she’s promoting Certain Women right now, but there’s some news about one of her other films, Personal Shopper. She was directed by Olivier Assayas, who also directed her in her Cesar-award-winning performance in The Clouds of Sils Maria. Kristen will likely be promoting Personal Shopper a lot this month too, and you can tell that she’s proud of her work with Assayas. He’s proud of her too – in a recent interview, he described her as an actress with “an infinitely larger range than many actresses of her generation. She has an inner depth coupled with a spontaneity and naturalness that sets her apart. She also has an innate understanding of cinema that makes me believe she could succeed at directing too.” I get that he’s just trying to compliment Kristen specifically, but it reads as shade against other actresses, right? Especially since I don’t really associate Kristen with having amazing range. Here’s the first trailer for Personal Shopper. It looks spooky!

Proud mom alert!

Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure cheered on daughter Natasha, 18, as she auditioned for coaches Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys on Monday’s episode of The Voice.

“My mom doesn’t know too much about the music industry because she’s not musically gifted,” Natasha shared before her performance.

The eldest child of Candace and husband, former NHL star Valeri Bure, put her own twist on the Elvis Presley classic Can’t Help Falling in Love and secured a spot on Team Adam.

In the following Twitter video, Candace is seen screaming, “Shut up!” when Levine, 37, pressed his buzzer.

“Natasha and I are gonna do some good work. We’re gonna go to nerves and self confidence boot camp,” said Levine.

Check out Candace’s proud reaction below…
