Back in July, Jeremy Renner and his ex-wife Sonni Pacheco got into another tit-for-tat beef about money and their daughter Ava. Sonni and Jeremy’s divorce was finalized back in October of last year, but for some reason, it seemed like the lawyers didn’t work out how Jeremy and Sonni would split Ava’s nursery school costs, so that was July’s beef. Sonni claimed Jeremy wasn’t paying his half of the nursery school costs and Jeremy said that Sonni chose to send Ava to an expensive nursery school, so Sonni can pay for it out of the child support he gives her every month, because their divorce decree didn’t include any language about educational costs. Well, now it seems that Jeremy and Sonni have reached another agreement:

Jeremy Renner has settled yet another squabble with his ex-wife … this time over child support. Jeremy and Sonni Pacheco have been at war since she filed for divorce in December 2014 after being married for only 10 months. The latest beef — Sonni claimed Jeremy was behind in support payments for 3-year-old Ava. They agreed Jeremy would pay around $16k for support and another $24k for her lawyer and accountant.

She’s made numerous allegations against Jeremy, claiming he was an unsafe dad because he had guns in the house, despite the fact that he had the guns while they were married and she had no problem with them. She also griped that Jeremy was posting pics of the kid on social media.

Jeremy has said Sonni needs to move on with her life and get a job. He pays her $13k a month in child support but she wanted more.

[From TMZ]

I think they’re basically saying that Renner agreed to raise Sonni’s child support payments from $13K a month to $16K a month, and reading in between the lines from the previous reporting, the extra money is likely for Ava’s nursery school/education. Which… is pretty standard, right? The strange thing, to me, is that Jeremy and Sonni hadn’t worked out Ava’s educational costs last year as part of the divorce. I also think that Jeremy was in the wrong – he basically believed that Sonni should be paying for Ava’s education completely out of her child support – and this new arrangement reflects that, as does the fact that Renner had to pay for Sonni’s lawyers.

tiddles

The Great Tiddlesplit of 2016 has replaced The Glorious Tiddlebanging of 2016. And I think most of us were fine with it. In fact, I would argue that the only people truly upset are the youngest of Taylor’s fans, who genuinely thought Tiddles was a love match. Much like the Boyfriend Rollout of Tom back in June, there was equal consideration as to how to roll out the news of the breakup. As you can see, Us Weekly got the heads-up about the split in enough time to make the split their cover story. There was also enough time to preview the Team Swift side of things in a Daily Mail story on Monday.

I included Us Weekly’s quotes in yesterday’s breakup story, but by now you could probably repeat them in your sleep: “She was the one to put the brakes on the relationship,” a source insisted. “Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with. Taylor knew the backlash that comes with public displays of affection but Tom didn’t listen to her concerns when she brought them up.” Tom is the famewhore, not innocent Snake Emoji. Tom did it all for the fame. Taylor really fell in love. She didn’t want to go on a Screw-You-Calvin-Harris World Tour. Of course not. So is it funny that E! News’ source basically said a variation on Us Weekly’s quotes?

“Taylor felt he wanted to take the relationship to be too public,” a source close to the situation tells us, “and she was not happy about it and thought it was too much publicity.”

[From E! News]

E! News did a story a few hours later where they basically called bulls—t on that one quote – go here to read. For true blue Hiddlestoners, I have something terrible to admit: I do think Tom is thirsty, and that he loved all of the attention… at first. Like, he enjoyed it for a month or so. And then he saw it turn on him, he saw how silly he looked, a 35-year-old man in a “I Heart T.S.” tank top. And he started to tap out and wind it down. But the idea that Taylor is so concerned with privacy, that she just hated all of the attention? Hahahahahaha. Taylor couldn’t even help herself from stepping out yesterday for some happy, smiley, I’m-Single-and-I-Have-Big-Boobs-Now photos in New York – go here to see.

Meanwhile, Team Hiddles hasn’t offered their side of the story. For what it’s worth, Tom isn’t Calvin Harris. I don’t see Tom beefing with Taylor on social media, or engaging in (her) pettiness. Since I’m sure he knows his every word will be hyper-analyzed in the weeks and months to come, he decided to use his social media to draw attention to his work with UNICEF:

In response to Ali & Gaith, who miss their journey to school, here’s mine. @UNICEF #EmergencyLessonshttps://t.co/0ex1XHUJad

I touched a Dolphins belly while sporting a trucker hat in 2004. #noregrets #fbf EDIT: I do not support animal cruelty.

A photo posted by Brie (@brielarson) on Sep 2, 2016 at 10:32am PDT

Brie Larson shared the above photo to Instagram and Twitter Friday with the hashtag #fbf which means “Flashback Friday.” She’s touching a dolphin’s stomach and the caption indicates that the photo was taken in 2004. Then the comments started pouring in, as they do on social media. Other sites are reporting that people were condemning her for posting a photo of captive dolphins, but most of the comments which I have found were more about urging her to learn more about the plight of dolphins in captivity, and the cruel way in which they’re captured. Here are some of the negative comments.

Dont support dolphins in captivity please, it’s just like #Roomthemovie but for dolphins. You better than that guuuuurl

Poor dolphin slaves! Please don’t support animal cruelty!

sad to see you support animals in captivity @brielarson

Brie I know you care about people already and try to stay informed about the issues they face, but can you also learn more about the exploitation of animals? Cause I don’t think you’d support it if you knew

No! Please learn about the #Tiji slaughter @dolphin_project and never buy a ticket to a dolphin show. These animals deserve better and you can help.

Please don’t support animal cruelty!

I totally get how Dolphins are amazing but NEVER in captivity please…

[From Instagram via NY Daily News and The Celebrity Talk]

After that Brie posted an apology message to Instagram which started with a sentiment similar to “you don’t know me” but it ended strong and she said that she’s concerned about the plight of animals and wants to learn more. I don’t know how I feel about the giant close up photo of her face, but she’s trying to learn.

Yo – it’s me again. I posted a photo previously that encapsulated a silly moment in my weird life. I forgot that through social media and random interviews you do not know all the facets of me and what my concerns are. We should be concerned about the well being of all animals. Yes, Dolphins. Along with every other creature. There are problems with animals in captivity. There are problems with animals living in the wild. It has always been a priority of mine to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. I apologize if the photo appeared to endorse animal cruelty. I don’t believe any living thing deserves miss treatment. In the comments section feel free to discuss your thoughts, concerns, articles ANYTHING that can turn this into a moment of education for myself all who are interested. We gotta remember that we will make mistakes but we can learn from them, together. Much love.

A photo posted by Brie (@brielarson) on Sep 2, 2016 at 2:12pm PDT

Brie also retweeted a message about the rake marks on that dolphin’s stomach and said she wanted to learn more about it. Apparently this is caused when “teeth of dominant whales and dolphins scrape the skin of the less aggressive animals. These attacks can result in painful and serious injuries.” This happens in captivity because dolphins and other sea animals get stressed out in such small enclosures and fight each other for dominance.

Tell me more! I remember the trainers telling me it was from the Dolphins playing?! Is that not true? https://t.co/ZBgjxIMP35

— Brie Larson (@brielarson) September 2, 2016

Personally I have not yet seen The Cove, a 2009 documentary about the cruel practice of dolphin hunting in Taiji, Japan. Many dolphins are slaughtered for their meat but the real money is in selling the dolphins into captivity, where they are worth up to $100,000 each. I seen The Cove because just reading about how these dolphins are herded and slaughtered hurts my heart. I have seen Blackfish though, about the plight of captive orcas in Sea World, and how Sea World officials covered up how dangerous it is for both the animals and trainers. As a result I will never go to a Sea World again. (I’ve only been as a child.)

That brings us back to Brie. Our future Captain America is 26, meaning she was just 15 when this photo was taken. She seems to have learned about what captive dolphins go through and to be open to learning more, and isn’t that what we want our celebrities to do? She did sound a little snotty at the beginning of that message, but with all the nasty comments she was receiving I get it. It’s go to be overwhelming at times for celebrities on social media. Daisy Ridley noped out of Instagram recently when she tried to write about gun violence and got crap for it. Brie is sticking around and trying to understand. I know I learned some things about captive dolphins today too.

It pains me to say this, but we’re probably going to be talking about Steroid Santa (aka Mad Mel, aka Mel Gibson) for months. His first directorial project in a decade, Hacksaw Ridge, debuted at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend, and the reviews are incredible. Like, critics love this movie and they think it could potentially win real Oscars. As we discussed on Labor Day, the film is a true story about a conscientious objector during World War II named Desmond Doss. Doss refused to use a weapon during the entire war – he was a medic, and he ended up winning the Medal of Honor. Steroid Santa clearly thinks highly of Doss and related to Doss’s story of faith and sacrifice. Previously, Mel quipped that Doss was the real hero, not some comic book “superhero” in tights. Well, Mad Mel has a new interview where he says much the same thing, only he name-checks Batman vs. Superman specifically. Some highlights:

The low budget for filming in Australia: “The exchange rate for the U.S. dollar was good at the time, and I think we locked in at about 72 cents on the dollar and took a $27 million budget and turned it into a $40 million budget. It was a completely Australian film, all the players were Aussies except Andrew [Garfield] and Vince Vaughn. So the whole production is an Aussie film, but a very American story, which is kind of unusual.”

He doesn’t understand why studios greenlight films that cost $200 million to make:
“I look at them and scratch my head. I’m really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste, but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. It seems to me that you could do it for less… You’re spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don’t know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on Batman v Superman that they’re admitting to?”

Hearing that BvS cost more than $250 million: “And it’s a piece of sh–. I’m not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn’t wear spandex. So I don’t know. Spandex must cost a lot.”

[From EW]

You can read the whole interview here at Deadline – I tried to skim the piece, but my God, that’s too much Mad Mel. I do have to admit something uncomfortable though… like, I dislike the man. I think he’s an abuser, an anti-Semite and an a—hole. But he’s not wrong about the way films are financed through studios. He’s not wrong AT ALL. It’s something I’ve been saying for years now: the current studio modus operandi is to throw good money after bad until you have these bloated, $200-million-plus budgets and studio executives are just praying that they can cook the books and break even and it happens time after time. And for what? Is this the new normal? Who says?

As if I needed more evidence that Amber Heard had crappy lawyers who gave her consistently terrible advice. Just weeks after Amber and Johnny Depp settled their epic divorce, we’re now learning that Depp had something special folded into the settlement: he wanted Amber to drop her defamation suit against his friend Doug Stanhope. Stanhope was and is Depp’s ride-or-die bro, to the point where Stanhope wrote an essay for The Wrap about how Amber is a manipulative liar who manipulated Depp and lied about being physically abused. Heard and her lawyers threw a defamation suit against Stanhope shortly after his op-ed was published. But now Amber has dropped it. TMZ reported it first, and they said that it was part of Johnny and Amber’s settlement talks. People Magazine had more details:

Now, just three weeks after Heard and Depp reached a settlement in their divorce, PEOPLE confirms that the actress has dropped the defamation suit against Stanhope. Stanhope’s attorney, David S. Gringas, tells PEOPLE that Heard and his client did not reach any agreement to settle the case. Furthermore, Gringas says that no money was exchanged between Heard and Stanhope, and that there is no confidential agreement between them. Gringas adds that he has not been in contact with Stanhope since the lawsuit was dropped, and says that given the comedian’s busy schedule, “I’d be surprised if he even knows anything about the conclusion of the case.”

According to the attorney, the dismissal “was negotiated as part of a larger deal between Ms. Heard and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Doug Stanhope is one of Johnny Depp’s closest friends, and it appears that Johnny was able to convince Amber to drop the lawsuit against Doug as part of a global resolution of their divorce.”

Gringas also notes that the case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning that Heard could re-file the lawsuit within one year of the date that Stanhope’s article was first published. “As far as we know, Ms. Heard has no plans to re-file the case against Mr. Stanhope, but that option remains available to her,” he explains.

In her initial court filing, Heard claimed that Stanhope “orchestrated a plot to write an article, which was published at TheWrap.com, which falsely accuses plaintiff Amber Heard of ‘blackmail’ and other criminal behavior towards her husband, Johnny Depp, from whom she is seeking a divorce.”

The actress called the claims “completely false and defamatory” and added that they have caused her “tremendous harm.” In a statement to PEOPLE, Heard’s lawyer, Charles J. Harder, had said that Heard planned to donate any potential jury awards to a domestic violence charity in Arizona.

[From People]

Ugh. So not only did Johnny Depp manipulate Amber constantly throughout their marriage, he continued to manipulate her throughout the divorce settlement negotiations and he got almost everything he wanted? Like, I’m sure it hurt him to write a check for $7 million, which is why he didn’t sign the check to Amber, which was his legal f—king obligation. Everything about Johnny and his bros is so petty and weird. Also: the fact that the defamation lawsuit was even part of Johnny and Amber’s divorce talks just proves (to me) that Stanhope wrote the essay at Depp’s behest. So gross.

Jonbenet-ramsey

With the success of Making a Murderer and the public’s fascination with unsolved mysteries, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that, 20 years later, the case of the murder of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey is getting another look. A&E got the jump on its competitors by airing the documentary, The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered, on Monday night.

The documentary featured a recently unearthed, never-before-seen police interview with JonBenét’s older brother Burke, which took part 2 years after the murder. The then 9-year-old boy talked about the moment he realized his sister was dead, during a visit to a family friends’ house. He told police at the time, “I thought JonBenét was gonna be there, I thought they found her. I came in excited…almost relieved…then my dad told me that JonBenét was in heaven.” Burke’s three part interview with Dr. Phil begins airing on Monday, September 12.

For a time, Burke, as well as his parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were suspects in the killing. Sadly, Patsy lost her battle with ovarian cancer and passed away in 2006. In the documentary, John tells A&E that to consider his young son capable of such an act was hogwash, saying, “The accusation that Burke somehow was this violent 9-year-old, 60-pound child and he bashed in JonBenét’s head and that Patsy and I staged the whole thing to protect him is laughable.”

The A&E documentary also addressed the misreporting of details on the case by the media, which led to the witch hunt against the Ramsey family. And, much like the Steven Avery case detailed in Making a Murderer, the police have come under fire for mismanaging the case. The case is still unsolved, with an estimated 50-60 suspects still on investigators’ radar. There is hope that DNA evidence can finally identify the guilty party, but that has yet to be seen.

The recent attention to this case has spawned quite a few projects. In addition to the A&E special, Dateline NBC is devoting a 2-hour special to the case on Friday night. Dateline NBC: Who Killed JonBenét? includes interviews with former investigators, including Bob Whitson, a retired detective sergeant at the Boulder Police Department, who believes that an intruder broke into the house and murdered the 6-year-old. Having been at the scene of the crime, Whitson said the evidence couldn’t possibly indicate a family member committed the crime, stating, “It matches up with a sexually sadistic person and a psychopath.” Investigation Discovery has also jumped on the bandwagon with a three-night docu-series JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery, which will premiere on Monday, September 12 at 10 p.m.

As we reported earlier, CBS is airing a six-hour series, Case Closed: JonBenét Ramsey, which premieres on September 18. There’s even news that Lifetime is planning a TV movie about the case, because of course they are. As a true crime aficionado, I’m glad the case is getting some attention, but is it all a little too much? I’m all for justice, but this is starting to smack of exploitation.

Daniel Craig has made four James Bond films, but only two of them were good. If he wanted to leave on a high note, he should have stuck with his guns and left after Skyfall. But he didn’t. He signed a contract for at least one more film (allegedly), and the first film of his new contract was Spectre, which was… completely awful. Like, I know producers love Sam Mendes and everything but Mendes needs to learn to not even start a set up until the script is ready. Mendes also needs to learn how to properly light a g—damn film. Anyway, considering the end of Spectre, many thought Craig had finally had enough. The Spectre promotional tour was painful, as Daniel repeatedly bad-mouthed the process of making these films and the Bond character.

Still, Spectre was considered a financial success at the end of the day. Allegedly, Sony went back to Craig and offered him tens of millions of dollars for one final Bond film, and he reportedly turned it down. As I said, considering his interviews last year, it really did sound like Craig was over it. Which is why there’s been so much gossip about who will “replace” Daniel Craig as the new Bond. But a new report says that Sony is still stuck on Daniel, and they’re offering him even more money to return:

A new day generally brings a fresh frontrunner to inherit 007’s tuxedo, with Victoria star Tom Hughes the most recent to join the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Aidan Turner. But according to a source reported by Radar, the most likely candidate to star as James Bond is Daniel Craig. Craig, 48, has already starred in four films, and despite a rumoured $65m (£48.66m) payday for 2015’s Spectre, was apparently skeptical about returning for more instalments. But pre-release qualms (“I’d rather slash my wrists”) were felt to have been overstated and, in the absence of an obvious replacement, Sony are said to be keen to sign him on for at least two further films. The actor added that he reserved “the right to change my mind” about quitting the series.

According to Radar, Craig’s public reluctance may even have helped his cause. “[He] has played a genius hand,” said the source. “Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned.”

The $150m would apparently involve two more films, shot “virtually back-to-back” – but neither would be shot by Sam Mendes who, despite the critical and commercial success of Spectre and its predecessor, Skyfall, has ruled himself out of returning. The final decision rests with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who in July was reported to be focusing on the next two films, with a view to potentially rehiring Craig. A spokesperson from Sony Pictures said the company had no comment.

[From The Guardian]

While it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that some people at Sony want Craig to stay in the role, I just don’t believe that the studio executives are co-dependent to this extreme. Daniel Craig is such a grumpy bugger and he spent the last promotional tour bad-mouthing everything and everyone. He’s literally not worth it. Even if Daniel gets the credit for bringing in the box office, literally no one believes that he’s worth $150 million for two films. Even before Spectre came out, Sony president (now Sony ex-president) Amy Pascal was already dream-casting Idris Elba in the role. And reportedly Barbara Broccoli is dream-casting the role too. While I know this means the speculation continues, I just don’t think this report means anything.

FFN_Bolt_Usain_FFUK_082516_52155127

Well this is exciting news, it looks like superhuman sprinter Usain Bolt asked his “First Lady”, longtime girlfriend Kasi Bennett, to marry him. He asked her something, at least, and was so excited she said yes, he posted this to his Snapchat:

This is no surprise, though, right? His sister Christine Bolt-Hylton told us he was likely going to propose after the Rio Games. Now that he blew up the record books once again and retired from the Olympics, he has plenty of time to focus on a life partner and family so this makes perfect sense. Except, well, for all that pesky photographic evidence of him banging everything in lip-gloss from Rio to London following the games.

Usain Bolt has dropped a heavy hint that he is engaged to his girlfriend Kasi Bennett.

Usain, 30, has not commented on his engagement on Instagram, instead choosing to share photos of his idyllic surroundings in Bora Bora.

“Work hard for what u want always #vacation,” he wrote alongside a poolside snap.

The sprinter has been making headlines for his stellar success at Rio this summer. Usain completed the men’s 100m final in 9.81 seconds, taking home gold and becoming the first athlete to win the event three times at the Olympics.

Usain celebrated by partying in Rio, where he is rumoured to have racked up a £6,000 bill in one bar. He was pictured cosying up to different women as he celebrated his 30th birthday, leaving some to suspect that he had been unfaithful to his girlfriend.

Usain and his partner of two years Kasi seem to have brushed off the rumours as they holidayed in Bora Bora

[From Hello!]

We’ve been saying this ever since Usian’s exploits went public: we have no idea what Kasi and Usain’s relationship is. It’s possible that all of his antics have her blessing or that he is the most physical flirt ever and he crossed no lines. I know very little about Kasi other than what I saw on her Twitter and Instagram, she seems a very confident woman with a wry sense of humor. She has not portrayed herself as a victim nor has she directly spoken about Usain’s behavior. To me, this says she’s fine with everything as it stands. In that case, all I have for them is – Best Wishes. I am a firm believer in doing what works for you. In my relationship, I would be very unhappy if my husband carried on like Usain did, but we don’t have an open relationship (I pin a note to his lapel each morning to remind him of that). Perhaps everything is in order in the Bolt/Bennett household. If I were projecting my wishes on them, I hope the open door policy applies to both but who knows, maybe Kasi is just happy for the respite as Usain seems to have an exhaustive amount of energy. Whatever the case, glad these two are getting some down time together in Bora Bora.

leamichele_people

Lea Michele covers the “special wellness issue” of People Magazine, which is probably geared to all of us who want to shape up for the holidays now that the summer is over. The photo they chose of her for the cover looks a bit manic, but I guess that’s what passes for happy with a lot of people. Lea says some decent, if bland things about being in shape, moving more and honoring her body. She used to be a vegan, a diet she followed starting around 2010, when she lost a significant amount of weight while filming Glee, but she’s since re-added meat into her diet. Lea also isn’t humble when it comes to her body image, which I guess is refreshing considering that she could put herself down and say a bunch of things about how self conscious she is when that just isn’t true. At least she’s honest.

On gaining weight when she first did Glee
I had more time in my trailer, more time in my car, and less time walking around. That’s when I realized how important it was for me, personally, to include activities and movement in my daily life.

She’s very fit now
[I’m in] the best place I’ve ever been. If I can do it, an Italian girl from the Bronx? Are you kidding me? Anybody can do it.

She got in shape on the broadway show Spring Awakening in 2006
[Jonathan Groff and I] would even do bikram yoga in between shows sometimes. That’s when I realized ‘Oh, I’m actually kind of good at this.’ We’d rock it out on stage during the day, then go to class together, and it really built my confidence. My workouts have to be good for my soul as well. If my brain can’t get relaxed at the same time, then it’s not for me.

On getting through dark moments, like Cory Monteith’s death
You always have to have faith, because life is going to throw things at you. You have to trust that there is a plan. I really pride myself on the people I surround myself with and how I take care of myself, so my ground is table beneath me.

Her diet involves some meat and being persistent
[She eats meat] as long as it’s coming from good places. The best lesson I’ve ever learned is, Who cares if people [servers] think you’re annoying? Tell them to use less salt. Tell them to use less butter. The worse they can do is say no.

On wellness
It’s so important to do things for yourself – because the better you are, the better you can be for the people in your life. It’s so important for me to stress that being healthy is not about being a gym rat. It’s not about being 90 lbs. This is really how I live every single day.

[From People Magazine, Wellness issue, print edition]

That’s a dangerous attitude to have “if I can do it anyone can.” People are in different places in their lives, under all sorts of situations, and it sounds so elitist to either think that everyone has your advantages, or that your disadvantages were so extreme that your particular accomplishments can be achieved by anyone. Plus not everyone has the same goals, but this is Lea Michele she’s not really in touch with the rest of the world. I guess that’s the lesson of wellness though, put yourself and your needs first. (Not that wellness is selfish, just that it involves prioritizing yourself.) Lea likely never had an issue with that.

Remember how I said “we see you, Snake Emoji”? Yeah, I still see you. Just 24 hours after the Daily Mail claimed that Taylor was wary and uncomfortable with Tom Hiddleston’s need for the spotlight, every media outlet is now reporting that TIDDLES IS OVER! Per People:

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have broken up after three months together, PEOPLE confirms.

“It was an amicable split,” a source tells PEOPLE.

[From People]

Not dirty enough for you? Us Weekly has the dish!

“She was the one to put the brakes on the relationship,” a source close to the couple tells Us. “Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with. Taylor knew the backlash that comes with public displays of affection but Tom didn’t listen to her concerns when she brought them up.” Now that they’ve split, the source says, Hiddleston is “embarrassed that the relationship fizzled out.”

Indeed, though the two were hot and heavy early on, things became strained when Hiddleston went to Australia to film Thor: Ragnarok and Swift stayed stateside. As Us previously reported, they had their first blowout fight in August. “It was an intense start,” a Hiddleston insider says of their whirlwind romance. “No one can keep that kind of momentum going.” Adds the source close to the couple: “They get along great and will remain friends, but they just don’t see it working romantically right now.”
