I’ve said before that I’m missing The Bride Gene, although I do enjoy talking/writing about weddings. I enjoy gossiping about wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ gowns, wedding receptions, food and of course, wedding cake. I’ve always wanted to see more of Beyonce’s wedding stuff, but for years, we didn’t get anything. No photos, no wedding portraits, not even a glimpse of her dress. But several years back, she started using some of the footage from her wedding during her concerts (the above screencap is from a concert), and then for her HBO documentary, we saw even more.

Basically, Beyonce’s wedding gown wasn’t anything special? I feel bad for saying that, but it’s true. Her wedding gown looked cheap. It was strapless, with a sweetheart bust and it didn’t even look like it fit her properly. Which just goes to show you what I always say about Bey: she’s an icon in many ways, but fashion is not one of those ways. Even on her wedding day, Beyonce sort of phoned it in. As it turns out, Beyonce let her mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, design her wedding dress, which is just the kind of thing a mother would guilt her daughter into early on, trapping the daughter in a cycle of mom-guilt and disappointment throughout the wedding planning. I know, because I’ve watched many episodes of Say Yes To the Dress. Anyway, Tina was interviewed on the Today Show this week, and she admitted that Beyonce said (in the most daughterly way ever) that she wasn’t happy with her dress.

Talking to the Today show about designing her daughter’s gown, Tina Lawson said, “She was so sweet to let me do that. She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress. Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart.”

[From People]

I can feel the mom-guilt from here. Beyonce was probably trying to tell her mom AHEAD of the wedding that she would have preferred another gown, but Tina was all “lalalalala I can’t hear you.” Poor Beyonce.

You can see a good shot of Beyonce’s wedding gown around the 2:25-mark of this video:

And here’s Tina’s Today interview.

I just spent way too much time looking up old photos of Janel Moloney and Bradley Whitford, also known as Donna Moss and Josh Lyman. Like so many people my age, I am a big West Wing fanatic, and yes, I shipped Donna and Josh for a while. Although I also enjoyed Josh and Amy (Mary Louise Parker). And remember Josh and Joey (Marlee Matlin)?? My favorite couple might have been CJ and Tobey though. And yes, I know they didn’t get together. But they were BFFs and they loved each other so deeply.

Where was I? Oh, yes. For some magical reason, People Magazine got the primary cast of The West Wing together for a series of interviews. They asked Bradley Whitford and Janel if they thought Josh and Donna would still be together, and Janel said “Yes, of course.” YAY! I think they would still be together too, but they would fight a lot and Donna would have to forgive a lot. Bradley also got some questions about how the fictional West Wing world compares to the real life political mess we find ourselves in this year:

Aaron Sorkin created some of the most iconic political leaders and players in pop culture history in his acclaimed show The West Wing – but would he ever have imagined a character like presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump? Bradley Whitford, who played White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman for seven seasons on the NBC series, doesn’t think so.

“It’s terrible writing,” the 56-year-old actor recently told PEOPLE. “Look, our show had a progressive democratic point of view, and the fakest thing about our show was that we had rational Republicans written in to be the opposition.”

But Whitford, 56, didn’t stop there. The actor then took a swing at Trump’s often criticized views on minorities and women.

“Aaron never would have gotten away with writing a character as racist, as misogynist, as proudly unintellectual [and] as arrogant as Donald Trump,” he said.

[From People]

Throughout the series, the fictional Republicans are usually portrayed as decent people who are willing to listen to reason, and willing to play the tit-for-tat of political gamesmanship. So Whitford is right – if Aaron Sorkin had created a fictional character/candidate who was anything like the real Donald Trump, no one would have believed it. It would be considered cheap and tacky writing. That being said, there are repeated references in the West Wing-world to Republicans being increasingly (at the time) the party of anti-intellectualism. Remember, more than half the series took place during the Bush administration!

As we discussed yesterday, Leslie Jones went public (via Twitter) with her fashion drama. The premiere for Ghostbusters is coming up and Leslie wants to look fabulous for her first big film premiere. She’s seen how ruling the red carpet can give a boost to an actress’s career, plus I think Leslie just likes clothes. Yesterday, I made a big deal about sizeism in the industry, and while it’s true that Leslie is not a sample size (zero or two), she is by no means overweight. She’s a tall, leggy woman who is probably (at most) a size 10, which is smaller than the average American woman. So why won’t designers dress her? Why won’t anyone offer to make Leslie something cute for the premiere? Well, according to Hollywood stylists, it’s Leslie’s fault. It’s her fault for NOT being a size 2. It’s her fault for being tall. And while this goes unsaid, it’s likely her fault for not looking like a “model” cough cough. Via Pret-A-Reporter:

Stylists I talked to estimated that the 6-foot stunner is probably not a sample size, meaning a runway model size 4, but rather a size 8 or 10, and that could be part of her frustration. But not because of any size bias.

“It’s just pure economics,” says The Hollywood Reporter power stylist Jeanne Yang. “People have this belief that showrooms and designers have racks and racks of clothing in all sizes. They don’t. When you’re a designer, sitting with your accountant, you have to think about how much it costs to create a sample. It may take hours to do a muslin, and thousands of dollars to create one specific piece. You justify it because you use it for so many things. One dress has to serve for the runway show, for sales, and to get publicity. If you have a sample that has to fit a model, you don’t have the option of creating things for premieres. No one ever does a variety of sizes. No one has those resources, even the biggest designers don’t.

“For something as big as the Oscars or when you are given enough time, designers may lay out the expense of creating something,” she continues. “But then, a lot of designers who do go through the trouble to create things, and spend the money and time, sometimes they take a gamble then the client says they don’t like it. Then you’ve spent $5,000 to $10,000 for a dress that’s not worn. It can be the death of a line.”

Some celebrities who don’t conform to fashion’s narrow body ideals have to buy — not borrow. Size 6 Bryce Dallas Howard bought the Jenny Packham dress she wore to the 2015 Golden Globes off-the-rack.

“I’ve had clients who are not sample sizes, for example Nia Vardalos. Designers are more than happy to lend to her. Unfortunately, she’s not a sample size. So the production company gave me a budget to buy her clothes,” says stylist Jessica Paster, who also works with Emily Blunt, Olivia Munn and Miranda Kerr. “Christian Siriano saved the day by pulling non-sample sizes, and he himself, the weekend of the premiere for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, did the final fitting with Nia.

“This is nobody’s fault except Leslie’s,” says Paster. “She should have known four to five months ago the date of premiere, and said, ‘I’m not a sample size, I need to go to designers early or buy myself a dress.’ Don’t be blaming designers and saying they don’t like you.”

It looks like Siriano is saving the day again. He’s confirmed to dress Jones for the film’s premiere during Outfest.

“I love Leslie and I’m a huge fan of her work,” Siriano said by email. “I can’t wait to create something special for her to wear. Hopefully I will see her in my studio this week to make something new and exciting for her to wear. I support all women no matter age or size!”

[From Pret-a-Reporter]

I like how the stylists are like “THIS ISN’T SIZE BIAS” then they go on to explain how designers are biased against anyone over a size 2. Do these stylists realize that words have meaning? That they are actually describing why designers don’t want to work with certain women because of their size? And why is anyone assuming that Leslie is speaking up now because she only recently had a problem? Dollars to donuts, she’s been dealing with sizeism for years, and designers have refused to dress her for all of her career. The difference is that now she’s starring in one of the hottest movies of the summer and she thought she deserved some special treatment this time around. And designers were like, “ugh, no, and it’s your own fault for being so tall and normal-sized, how many times do we have to say no to you?”

Yesterday we heard that Lisa Marie Presley was divorcing her fourth husband after ten years, music producer Michael Lockwood. She, as the richer party, was not requesting spousal or child support and was requesting full custody of their seven year-old twin daughters. For some reason Lisa Marie wanted only supervised visits for Michael with their girls, which raised a lot of suspicions. I doubted that we would hear much about this divorce because Lisa doesn’t seem to talk to the press about her personal life. The Daily Mail claims to have insider information, though. They say that Michael was emotionally abusive to Lisa Marie but that’s not the primary reason she’s leaving him. Supposedly he was living large off her money even when they were living separately. In fact she can’t even find him now to serve him divorce papers.

Lisa Marie Presle… tells confidantes her husband Michael Lockwood was ‘verbally and financially abusive’ and fears ‘he’s an unsafe father’ to twin girls.

‘Michael has taken advantage of his wife’s wealth in recent years and it put a strain on their marriage,’ a close source tells Daily Mail Online…

Presley, who as the sole heir of Rock and Roll icon Elvis’ estate has an estimated net worth of $300million – is, unsurprisingly, not asking for any spousal support or child support.

It has also been reported that the pair has a post nuptial arrangement, which does not detail any division of property.

But the main concern for the mother-of-four – who has daughter Riley, 27, and son Benjamin, 23, with her ex-husband Danny Keough, and twin daughters Finley and Harper with Lockwood – is getting full custody of her and the musician’s children.

A source close to Presley told Daily Mail Online: ‘Lisa had had enough of Michael. He was abusive to her but that’s just a small part of it – that’s not the reason they’ve split.

‘The overriding reason for the divorce is the financial abuse, Michael has taken advantage of his wife’s wealth in recent years and it put a strain on their marriage.’

Daily Mail Online has learned that the couple had lived in Tennessee until recently when they both moved to Los Angeles.

But it’s believed they were living separately when Presley filed for divorce.

The source added that lawyers for Presley are still trying to locate Lockwood so they can serve him with the divorce papers.

‘He hasn’t even been served yet, but that should happen in the next few days,’ the source said.

‘He is hiding his address, he’s in Los Angeles but so far he’s been refusing to tell Lisa Marie’s legal team where he lives.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Some people are speculating that something sinister must be going on for Lisa Marie to request supervised visits for Michael, but it could be anything. Maybe she just wants to make sure he’s not using parental alienation or maybe he’s just a controlling person as this source claims. Plus, if this is even true, we’re only hearing one side at this point. I wondered yesterday if he was still into Scientology, which might be motivating Lisa Marie to keep her daughters out of the cult. However cult expert Tony Ortega says this divorce likely has nothing to do with Scientology. Ortega believes that Micheal only took courses for Lisa Marie early in their relationship. What’s more is that when Lisa Marie left the cult in 2014 her mother, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley did too. So that’s good news. I hope that everyone is ok, especially their daughters, and that this works out in a way that’s for the best for everyone.

Also I’m picturing Lisa Marie making a bonfire out of Michael’s hats. There’s a huge pile of hats in the front yard of her mansion and she’s just squeezing starter fluid all over them. I think you can chart the problems in their marriage to when she stopped wearing hats too.

Everything’s coming up roses for Blake Lively these days. Does that surprise you? I guess I’m not really surprised: Blake is one of the all-time best hustlers. What she lacks in annuciation and acting skills, she makes up for in hustle. The Shallows is doing surprisingly well at the box office, and Vox even ran a hilariously bitchy “explainer” for why Blake continues to find success – go here to read. Anyway, she covers the new issue of Hamptons Magazine, and she talks about The Shallows and Café Society, the Woody Allen film which comes out in a few weeks. From what I heard, Blake’s role isn’t even that big? Kristen Stewart has the more significant role, but from the way Blake is hustling, you’d think Café Society was her Blue Jasmine. Some highlights:

Working with Woody Allen: “It’s really cool to work with a director who’s done so much, because he knows exactly what he wants. The fact that he does one shot for an entire scene—[and] this could be a scene with eight people and one to two takes—it gives you a level of confidence because when he’s got it, he knows he’s got it. He also is really encouraging as to why he cast you, so he’ll say, “Say the dialogue that’s written and then you can improvise for a while.” And his dialogue is so specific, and it’s speaking in a 1930s dialect and [with period] references, so it’s intimidating to think, Oh, let me just improvise there and hope that my words blend seamlessly alongside Woody Allen’s. Which they clearly wouldn’t and don’t. But he’s very empowering.”

Working with a CGI shark: “Ninety-nine percent of this movie was me acting to a piece of pink tape or a man with a shark fin swimming around me in circles just so the camera could track where the shark would be CGI’d later. That was incredibly challenging because I really appreciate having a costar to play off of and I feel like they always make me better. This movie, I only had my imagination to play off of.”

Her red carpet style: “It’s mood-based, it’s environment-based, knowing what the event is. Something like Cannes, for example, is incredibly Old Hollywood, glamorous, iconic; there’s the wind of the Côte d’Azur—you want things that will blow in the wind, that will look beautiful in the sun, that drip down a sweeping staircase. It’s the same thing with the Met: You think of the staircase that your outfit could drip down. You sort of look at the event cinematically and you think, What character do I want to play? Red carpet is not real life, so you’re always sort of playing a character when you’re on it.

She loves to discover artisans: “My style is very much a reflection of my experiences and my moods, who I am and where I’ve traveled. Whenever I travel, I like to discover little shops and restaurants and artists and artisans, and I love that to be a part of my story. So my design aesthetic, whether it’s in my home or on my body, is very much an unfolding of my experiences and my stories. And that can be incredibly casual—it can be jeans and a T-shirt—but it’s my dad’s T-shirt maybe. It’s stuff that normally means something to me. And it’s also very personal and relaxed. I also like to dress up, though; I also think that’s relaxing— to put on a great pair of Louboutins.

[From Hamptons Magazine]

Sigh… where to even begin? Honestly, the “I discover artisans” thing bugged me more than the Woody Allen stuff. The Woody Allen stuff we’ve heard from Blake before, and I’m assuming her publicist told the magazine to NOT ask any specific questions about the accusations of abuse against Woody Allen, so Blake gets to spill more of her “Woody is so empowering” nonsense. If we’re trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, we could say that Blake feels like she has to say that stuff because she wants to further her career. But I think she actually believes it. She believes that she’s empowered by Woody. As for the artisans and her carefully curated life… she exhausts me. She can’t just wear a t-shirt, the t-shirt has to be made by artisans for her father and have a lengthy backstory. Enough!

Remember when everyone thought Eva Green and Johnny Depp were maybe/probably having an affair several years back? It was right around the end of his relationship with Vanessa Paradis, during the time we now know he was courting/romancing Amber Heard. But I always wondered if Eva and Johnny had something at one point. We’ll probably never know. These days, the rumor going around is that Eva is possibly romancing Tim Burton, who directed her in another film (which she’s currently promoting) called Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. It comes out in September, so that’s why Goth Princess Eva Green is on the cover of the August issue of W Magazine. I think very highly of Eva’s beauty, and this editorial does not do her justice at all. You can see W’s cover package here, and here are some highlights from the interview:

Her witchy image: “People have this image of me as being otherworldly…”

Miss Peregrine: “Miss Peregrine is like a dark Mary Poppins. She has the ability to manipulate time and uses her powers to protect the children. Miss Peregrine will kill for them… And she does! Which was fun.”

What Tim Burton says about his rumored lover: “Eva was not instantly knowable. There was something private and mysterious about her, and that’s not common in this day and age. People think she’s ‘dark,’ but she’s more interesting than that. People assume I’m dark too, but I’m really not. Is it just because I wear dark clothing? Do people want me to be in a white suit, like Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island?! Eva faces the same dilemma. We share a complicated way of looking at things. We both have an interest in the unusual.” (It has been rumored that Burton and Green are romantically involved. “All I can say is that Eva seems to be his new muse,” said a close friend of the director’s. “He finds her very inspiring.”)

She was a geek in her younger years: “I was not popular in school. I was a real geek, hugging the walls. I blushed whenever the teacher would ask me a question. I was paralyzed.”

Early crushes included Jack Nicholson in The Shining & Marlon Brando in Last Tango in Paris. “I love Nicholson when he goes crazy with the ax! And when I was 15, I had an enormous poster of Last Tango in Paris on my wall. I was obsessed with the director, Bernardo Bertolucci.”

She’s fine with doing nudity: “It is very paradoxical. I am so shy, and, at the same time, I kind of expose myself literally to thousands of people. I don’t really understand why I do that. I need to go through therapy!”

Her role in Casino Royale: “At first, when they approached me, I thought it would be me wearing a bikini and being beautiful, so I said I wouldn’t audition. Then they sent me the script, and I saw that Bond was falling in love with my character—that she was sensitive and full of secrets. I could understand that. And in Casino Royale, I had to die. I die in a lot of movies. I don’t know why—it’s one of the unusual things about my career. I guess it’s a big rehearsal for the inevitable.”

[From W Magazine]

“I was not popular in school. I was a real geek, hugging the walls.” I believe that she was unpopular, but I think the word “geek” might be misapplied here? She sounds like a nervous, high-strung kid who didn’t have a lot of friends, but not really a “geek” the way we think of geeks these days. And I consistently find it extraordinary that all of these beautiful actors (around the world!) were all so geeky and unpopular when they were young. Bulls—t! Some of them were the popular Mean Girls, some of them were jocks, some of them had lots of friends.

So, do you think Eva and Tim are banging? I went into it thinking “no,” but after I read his quotes… maybe? Like, is Eva his new muse after he split from Helena Bonham Carter?

There’s so much to love in this post. There is so much fabulousness, so much style, so much elegance, so much joy. These are photos from last night’s London premiere of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie. This will probably be the biggest movie starring two women over the age of 50 all year. And I sort of can’t believe that someone finally financed AbFab: The Movie. It’s amazing! Anyway, let’s get to the fashion, because that’s what Patsy and Eddy would want. LACROIX, DARLING. Obviously, Jennifer and Joanna outshone everybody else.

Kate Moss and Stella McCartney walked the carpet together, and both ladies took small roles in the film. Well, Moss’s role is crucial-but-small. And I’m tickled that Kate Moss looks so happy and joyful to be at this premiere. Like, she’s a HUGE AbFab fan.

This ^^ is a picture of Kourtney Kardashian looking hot at GQ’s 10th annual Love Sex and Madness party Tuesday night. As you may know, we are coming up on the one-year anniversary of Kourtney and Scott Disick’s breakup. I don’t know what gift you are supposed to get for the First Year Breakup Anniversary. It sounds like Scott didn’t know either so he stuck to the old standby and got Kourtney pregnant. According to In Touch, the couple are expecting a new baby and it will be here as soon as January! The couple are already parents to Mason, Penelope, and Reign but In Touch claims Kourtney has always wanted four babies and the same dad for all of them. Apparently everyone is just thrilled with the news because seriously, what could go wrong with this development?

Congratulations, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick!

In Touch can exclusively reveal that the on-again, off-again couple is expecting their fourth baby together. A source tells the mag the 37-year-old is currently four weeks into her pregnancy.

“Kourtney has always wanted four kids, but has been adamant about not wanting multiple baby daddies,” the insider explains — adding her famous family was shocked by the news, but eventually came around to the idea.

As for the party boy 33-year-old, the source says he’s “been doting on her and the kids [Mason, 6, Penelope, 3, and Reign, 1] ever since they found out.”

[In Touch]

Her family is shocked – SHOCKED – I tell you. I’ll bet Kourtney is pretty surprised to find out she’s four weeks along as well. Especially when she took this picture Tuesday morning – I would kill to look this pregnant:

Ah, but the saga of Lord D and Lady K doesn’t end with just one selfie. Last Saturday, Scott accompanied a mystery blonde to the BET Awards. Following that, Kourtney snapped the pic above and then made her way to the GQ wingding where she ended up leaving with Diddy’s 25-year-old son, Quincy Combs. Apparently, after being spotted out and about last December, Kourt and the aspiring actor have been photographed together a few times, including Khloé’s birthday on Monday. Kourtney is no stranger to younger entertainers having reportedly hooked up with Justin Bieber last year. If she is with Quincy, that’s a step up from The Biebs – Quincy is hot.

Drew Barrymore is reportedly in negotiations to get her own talkshow, executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres. When I think of talkshows, I think of how crowded the market it and how even pros like Anderson Cooper couldn’t keep a show on the air. I also think of hacks like Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, and Bethenny Frankel, all of whom have had failed talkshows in the past few years. So maybe in comparison Drew’s show will be ok, but I don’t have high hopes. Variety had this news:

There are rumblings that [Drew Barrymore] has been discussing a talk show development deal with Warner Bros. and Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production banner.

Barrymore is already in business with Warner Bros. TV’s Shed Media as the narrator of the upcoming NBC unscripted series “First Dates,” also from DeGeneres’ shingle. That show trains cameras on couples who are going on first dates at the same Chicago restaurant.

Sources emphasized that there’s no deal in place for Barrymore on the talk show front yet, but the conversations have been ongoing. If a deal were to come to fruition, DeGeneres would be an exec producer…

Barrymore has become more active as a producer in television in recent years. She’s an exec producer of the Esquire series “Knife Fight” and was an EP on VH1’s “Tough Love.” Barrymore and WB have also been discussing a development deal for her as a producer.

On the acting front, Barrymore is gearing up for a starring role in Netflix’s upcoming comedy “Santa Clarita Diet,” in which she’ll star opposite Timothy Olyphant. She’s also an exec producer on the series.

[From Variety]

Have you guys ever seen that Esquire show Knife Fight she produces? It’s like hipster Iron Chef where they make the food at a cool restaurant in a party setting. It sounds like Drew is busy and that she’s executive producing a lot of shows, which is smart. I don’t think she’s quite the type to host a talk show though. She’s got that touchy feely earth girl personality which can be cloying in large doses. Drew is “real” and comes across like a very warm person, but I just don’t see her talk show being all that successful. We’ll see though, she’s definitely got name recognition and I’m sure she can pull a lot of big celebrities. Plus she likes to drink her wine, so she’s like Hoda and Kathy Lee that way. I’m sure the drinks will be flowing.
