Here are some photos from last night’s London premiere of Fifty Shades of Grey. Just know: I liked the fashion choices in Berlin more than London. Fashion notes… Dakota Johnson’s white gown is Saint Laurent, and all of us would be screaming if Kim Kardashian wore this. The V is too deep (ironically one of the lines of dialogue in this film) and it already feels like we could draw this girl’s body from memory. Sam Taylor Johnson is wearing a spunky Marc Jacobs – I like her outfit except for the shoes. E.L. James was the only one wearing grey/silver too.

Ugh, what else is there to say about this mess? I’m pretty sure it’s going to win the weekend box office. I’m pretty sure that come Monday, we’ll be discussing the record-breaking haul from ladies who dragged their lady-friends to see this movie. For what it’s worth, not every review is bad. Vulture says Dakota Johnson is actually the best part. Salon says that if you go in with low expectations, you’ll actually enjoy it. CNN has a greatest-hits of all the top critics here.

Other notes… France is so laissez-faire that they’re letting 12-year-olds see Fifty Shades. THR had another story about E.L. James’ war with Sam Taylor Johnson – go here to read. And a lot of people are complaining about the lack of Big-Os in the film. Apparently, we can’t even see people pretend to have a Big O anymore?

rosamund-pike-ellen-degeneres

During a Thursday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, actress Rosamund Pike dished on balancing breastfeeding her 10-week-old son Atom during awards season.

“I am just taking him around with me,” said Pike, 36, of her newborn. “It has a very interesting effect on people because they don’t expect it. I’m turning up to meetings because what do you do — you’re a mom and you got a baby who needs to eat.”

Nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Gone Girl, the actress says her adorable entourage doesn’t go unnoticed.

“I turn up [to meetings] and they’re like, ‘Oh, your baby’s here,’ ” she shared. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah he is.’ ”

The British actress — who is also mom to 2½-year-old son Solo — admits her nursing schedule has put a cramp into her red carpet style.

“I do have help the night of the award shows; it’s a whole operation,” she said. “I do the red carpet, I get there really early, I’m sort of the really uncool one. [Then] I disappear off and set up a sort of station backstage somewhere.”

She went on to recall a humorous breastfeeding story at Sunday’s BAFTA awards.

“I just roped up into the chairman of the Royal Opera House’s office and tried to put on the robe. I couldn’t do the buttons and whipped it off,” she said. “I was just sitting there, butt naked, with the double breast pump. If this guy had seen the kind of scene was as underhand as if we’d been taking drugs or something!”

She added: “One day, when I’m fearless and don’t care what anybody thinks, which I endeavor to do anyway, one day I’ll publish the photos because they are very funny.”

I’ve never gotten Botox or fillers, but it seems like it takes a few weeks for injectibles to “wear off,” right? Like, at first your face will look puffy and frozen and slowly, the stuff wears off a little bit and everything sort of “deflates” and you can move your eyebrows and cheeks a little bit. I’m wondering because of the ongoing debate about Uma Thurman’s face.

If you asked me on Tuesday if I was 100% sure that Uma had overdone the Botox and fillers, I would have said “of course she did.” Then on Wednesday, we heard from Uma’s makeup artist, who claimed that Uma’s new look was simply the product of no eye makeup. While I thought he was full of it, I also have to admit that the lack of eye makeup really did throw off the look of her face. Then on Thursday, Uma appeared on the Today Show and she wore eye makeup and her hair is a little bit different, and she looks relatively normal. Did the Botox and fillers wear off quickly? Or was it all a makeup-induced optical illusion?

When asked about the comments about her Botox work, Uma laughed (or tried to laugh through the ‘Tox) and said: “Um, I don’t know. I guess nobody liked my makeup!… I mean, I’ve been doing this for years and years and years. People say things nice…and they say things mean. It’s just, like, whatever! You know, you take the good with the bad.”

So, she’s still sticking with the story that it was just makeup. Which, granted, I’m now saying that the makeup fail was a big part of this. But I paid close attention to how her face moved as she was speaking, and there’s certainly enough evidence to suggest that she has had injectibles. Her forehead is like granite! But the cheeks aren’t quite so puffy in this interview.

jolie pascal

View image | gettyimages.com

A week ago, Amy Pascal “stepped down” as co-chairman of Sony Pictures. That’s the gentle way of saying it. What really happened was that she was fired, although Sony Corporate handled the Pascal exit pretty well. They left her out there for a few months to soak up the blame, then they negotiated a generous exit package for her semi-retirement. Her exit package includes her own production company associated with Sony, plus $30-40 million over the next four years. And for that kind of golden parachute, Pascal has nothing but nice things to say about her time at Sony. Pascal attended the Women in the World conference this week in San Francisco and she chatted about being “fired,” her relationship with Angelina Jolie and more. Some highlights:

She didn’t step down, she was fired: “All the women here are doing incredible things in this world — all I did was get fired.”

Realizing her emails had been hacked: “I ran this company, and I had to worry about everybody who was really scared … People were really scared … But nagging in the back of my mind, I kept calling [IT] and being like, ‘They don’t have our emails, tell me they don’t have our emails,’ ” she said. “But then they did. That was a bad moment. And you know what you write in emails.”

The Angelina Jolie emails: “The first person I talked to was Angie after that email… Angie didn’t care. Everybody understood because we all live in this weird thing called Hollywood. If we all actually were nice, it wouldn’t work.”

All of the offensive stuff that came out in the emails: “As a woman, I figured that what I did was control how everybody felt about themselves and about me, that’s how I did my job. That’s kind of the way that a lot of us act as leaders and there was this horrible moment when I realized there was absolutely nothing at all that I could do about whether I’d hurt people, whether I’d betrayed people, whether I’d said things that I didn’t mean. I couldn’t protect anyone — not their feelings, not what they thought of me. It was horrible because that’s how I figured I did my job for all of my life. It was also strangely freeing because all of a sudden, it was just what it was.”

On celebrities: “They’re bottomless pits of need. You’ve never seen anything like it. But they are so great. They’re this magical thing that no one else can be. It’s a duality of both things. They’re filled with need to be loved and to be great, but that’s because they’re magical.”

[From Us Weekly & THR]

I rolled my eyes at the last quote, about celebrities being bottomless pits of need AND magical creatures. What a half-assed attempt at a save. As for the Jolie stuff… I don’t believe Pascal. Let’s be clear: Pascal and Jolie did have a good working relationship and I’ll believe that they felt like they knew each other pretty well. So do you think Pascal’s first call would be to Jolie if Pascal thought Jolie was going to be totally cool and ambivalent about the whole thing? Right. And if Jolie was hurt or upset, who would blame her? What Scott Rudin said about Jolie was harsh, bratty and Mean Girl-y. And Pascal said nothing in Jolie’s defense. Why is the official line “Angie didn’t care”?

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner covers the March issue of Allure magazine. This is her biggest cover so far. She’s fronted Teen Vogue and a few other minor magazines. She’s appeared in US Vogue (a few times) and fronted Vogue Australia. There will probably be a US Vogue cover sometime in the future (because Anna Wintour has completely lost it and given big sister Kim a cover), but Allure is a pretty big score for Kendall.

I’m not a fan of most Allure covers, and this one is no exception. Kendall’s editorial (by Mario Testino) is all about massive, Kelly LaBrock-in-the-1980s hair. Kendall wears several swimsuits and poses with a very famous capuchin monkey. You can see the photos here — the monkey is Marcel from Friends. He’s 21 years old now, which makes me feel old. Here are some interview excerpts. I misled you about the tattoo quote, which actually came from Kim’s mouth first. Kendall holds the words out as truth:

She has acne: “I had just started ninth grade when I got my acne. And I had braces. I wouldn’t look people in the eye. It was not a good time for me — it just killed my self-esteem. I thought when I didn’t look at someone, they couldn’t see my face.”

On coming out of her shell: “I still have a hard time looking at someone when I’m talking to them, and I get nervous. When I started getting in front of the camera a lot, I think my confidence started to come out. It took a minute, because I had to believe in myself.”

She has no tattoos: “I have a really weird thing about ‘forever.’ And my sister Kim always said, ‘Don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.’

Her modelling dream: “Kylie and I had to grow up in front of people, and it was hard sometimes … but it was never a negative thing. I would read magazines, and I would look at pictures with these women who looked so powerful. I wanted to be that to some little girl or little boy.”

[From Allure]

The quote from Kim — tattoos as bumper stickers — is hilarious. I guess implants, Botox, and fillers are no big deal. A tattoo? Now that crosses the line into crassness. The rest of the interview doesn’t do much. Kendall admits to getting a few pimples as a teenager, which made her shy. I’m pretty sure she’s growing out of her shell.

Here’s a pic of Kendall with Testino, who posted it to his Instagram and complimented his subject on her “energy.”

LOVED KENDALL’S ENERGY ON THE SHOOT. AMAZING! ME ENCANTO LA ENERGIA DE KENDALL EN LA SESION DE FOTOS. FUE INCREIBLE! @KendallJenner @Allure_Magazine

Reese Witherspoon is not your America’s Sweetheart. Maybe she was at one time, but that ended as soon as she drunkenly mouthed off to a police officer in Georgia. Ever since then, she’s been “leaning in” to her new persona of the anti-sweetheart. Perhaps she’s always been this person and now she’s just owning it more and more. So, should we hold that against her? Does every woman have to aim to please? Does every wife have to be dutiful and submissive? Not at all. But would it hurt to be mildly pleasant to your husband’s coworkers?

Maybe the devil really does wear Prada. That’s certainly the sentiment going around CAA’s offices when Reese Witherspoon drops by.

“Reese is anything but sweet,” says a source inside CAA, where Reese’s husband Jim Toth is a high-powered agent. But while the CAA crew is accustomed to their fair share of A-list visits, Reese is the only one making employees scatter with her icy attitude.

“The staff are terrified of rubbing her the wrong way, so they bend over backwards to please her!” admits the insider, revealing that Reese always likes her favorite brands of tea, bottled water and juice to be on hand. But don’t expect to receive a please or thank you. “She won’t ever take off her sunglasses because she doesn’t want anyone to make eye contact.”

Jim Toth “doesn’t want his coworkers to see it, because he’s such a bigwig. He wants the staff to think that he has the upper hand but it’s obvious she wears the pants.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

We should note that Reese is also a CAA client, in addition to being the wife of one of the major agents. I would imagine all of the CAA employees have to scurry around to meet every whim of one of their A-list clients, and it gets a little bit extra when that client is married to one of the agents. But still, can’t you see it? Reese comes storming in, still wearing her sunglasses, and hisses at the first peasant, “Iced tea, NOW.” She takes in the room and snaps, “You do not meet my gaze, bitch.”

And in case you’re wondering about the validity of Star’s assessment of Jim and Reese’s marriage, just take another look at Reese and Jim’s arrest video and how Jim is flat-out embarrassed by Reese’s crazy, drunk diva behavior. She’s the mess and he’s the enabler/handler.

Carmen Ejogo has an interesting profile in the new online edition of Violet Grey. Ejogo is a British actress with a lot of heat these days. She blew me away in Selma, where she played Coretta Scott King. Those vintage 1960s clothes on Carmen were the business!!! She looked so gorgeous. I mean, she’s a beautiful woman but some women just look so amazing in period/vintage clothes and she was one of them. Anyway, I don’t really know much about Carmen, so I enjoyed her interview in Violet Grey, which was conducted by none other than Oprah Winfrey. Oprah being Oprah, she made much of the interview about Oprah. But there are some interesting details about Carmen in there. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

Carmen’s experience on ‘Selma’: “I think it was a reaffirmation of the importance of artists getting the chance to tell their own stories, their own history. The pure love from everyone involved on the set and their commitment to telling the story in a way that felt authentic to their experience truly transfers onto the screen in a way that is absent in some of the other work that I have done.”

A different kind of Coretta Scott King: “What Ava wrote for Coretta was so different from what I was working with the first time around that I inevitably had to portray her differently. But I didn’t ever feel anxious. I was excited by the challenge of getting somewhat messier with this portrayal. And by messy I mean not being scared to explore Martin Luther King Jr.’s alleged infidelity or exploring the fact that Coretta, who was a brilliant and dynamic woman, was, at times, frustrated in her iconic role of the first lady of the movement, being stuck at home and not necessarily having a platform to express herself fully.”

Where she feels most alive: “When I’m swimming. It can be in a pool or, even better, a lake or the sea. But there is something about being underwater that gives you space to think and meditate. It makes me feel very connected to myself somehow. I also come alive when I’m painting. I like to work in oils and acrylics, and the full sensory engagement and self-expression is very stimulating to me.”

Baths or showers? “Baths. Absolutely. I’ve got the lavender essential oils and the whole routine down at this point….I’ve had as many as maybe three, maybe four baths in a day. Is that really excessive?”

[From Violet Grey]

Three or four baths a day? I feel the same way about that as I do about people who sleep 10-12 hours a day. How can you get anything else done? I mean, I used to love taking baths too, but my limit was always ONE a day. Nowadays, I’m more of a shower person anyway. Get in, get out and get on with your day. How does any modern woman – and Carmen is a mom too! – have time to take three or four baths a day?!

Congratulations are in order for Liv Tyler and David Gardner.

The Leftovers star, 37, and her sports manager/agent beau welcomed a son on Wednesday (February 11), PEOPLE reports.

“He’s healthy and everyone is very happy,” the rep tells the mag. That said, a source says the baby boy arrived six and a half weeks early and will need to remain in the hospital for some time.

The newborn – whose name has not been revealed – joins big brothers Milo, 10, and Gray, 7, the couple’s children from previous marriages.

The actress recently opened up about her second pregnancy.

“I mean, for seven years I’d been saying I wanted to do an HBO show with an ensemble cast. And I wanted a house in the country,” Tyler shared. “And getting to have another child? If you knew me well, they were the things my heart longed for. And they all came together, like a speeding freight train, in one year.”
