Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson haven’t exactly been subtle about their relationship, especially not on social media. They’ve taken bathroom selfies. They’ve made out over soup:

They’ve made out over breakfast:

My first exposure to the whole “celebrities getting paid by Amazon to create an Amazon listicle” was with Jeremy Renner’s rugged-outdoorsman Amazon page. He must have gotten six-figures, if not more, to shill for tents and knives and hiking/fishing/hunting gear. After that, Jennifer Lawrence got paid (she probably donated it to charity) to create a wedding registry on Amazon. Lauren Conrad also got paid to make a baby registry for her second child. And now Blake Lively is getting paid too. While People Magazine makes no mention of whether Blake is donating her Amazon check to charity, they did score an exclusive with her about her Amazon registry:

Blake Lively is making shopping for baby simple and easy — and helping other parents in the process — with her new Amazon baby registry. The actress and mom of three created a one-stop shop for all of the products she recommends to pals, based on her own experiences and some tried-and-true testing.

“Before I had my own kids, I asked all the parents I trusted most for a list of their ‘go-to’ items. My registry is made of all those products plus ones that I’ve discovered myself over the years,” Lively tells PEOPLE. “The neat part is I actually keep this registry active for years, because it’s an easy way for me to reorder all our basics, and it’s also a great way to share my ‘must-have’ list with my friends, as they did with me when I needed it. The baby registry is a community tool for me more than anything else.”

Like Lauren Conrad’s baby registry, which was also created on Amazon, the list includes picks for both parents and babies, as well as nursery, feeding and diapering staples. And it’s all Prime-eligible, which Lively appreciates as an Amazon shopper. “Oh man, one click shopping is dangerously easy,” she says. “I tend to use Amazon for everything I can. It’s just so easy.”

Though super-serious about her recommendations, Lively is happy to joke about her maternity style (It’s “comfortable, comfortable, comfortable in real life and unrealistically awesome when I have to do press. But that’s only a couple days a year, if that. I really raise the bar for myself, then it’s back to pajamas, onesies and disappointment”) as well as her postpartum style (which she describes as “Lord Varys.” Yes, from Game of Thrones.)

And though she loves many things about parenthood – “Just sitting and telling stories together, drawing, building forts, dancing, picking up trash to protect their imaginary dolphin. All sounds cheesy, but it’s those simple moments I appreciate most,” she says – getting sleep isn’t one of them: “I plan to get lots of sleep when I’m dead,” she jokes. (For parents who also aren’t blessed with great sleepers, she has another recommendation: “Sound machines with white noise on low while watching Classical Baby… which had to have been made by actual saints.”)

As to whether any items were specially requested by the kids in her life? “My oldest child LOVES Aviation Gin, but he’s 42,” she jokes.

[From People]

It’s… fine. If Amazon cut her a big check, then good for her and she’s under no obligation to give that money to charity. If I was a celebrity lending my celeb-brand to Amazon, I would take that money and blow it all on shoes. And hey, maybe parents really will find her registry helpful. It’s not like Blake is asking people to buy this sh-t for her, which is what I mistakenly thought was happening with J-Law’s wedding registry. These celebs are basically being asked to just make an Amazon shopping list and share it with the world.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were at the WellChild Awards last night. WellChild helps children and youth who are living with serious illnesses and the caregivers who support them. The event honours the kids who, despite living with chronic disease, are giving back their communities – like Emilie: …

Lana del Rey keeps it casual while leaving Wednesday night Church service in Beverly Hills

Is it just me or has Lana del Rey seemed almost happy during her promo for her new album? She’s always seemed, to me, like America’s Moody Depressive Witchy Retro Queen. And that was fine. Her brand was “crying because of Jackie Kennedy’s pink suit.” Maybe that’s still her brand as a singer, but her personal life seems… fine. She seems happy. It’s so weird. Recently, we learned that Lana is dating a COP. His name is Sean Larkin and he’s an analyst on A&E’s Live PD. He’s 46 years old (but he looks older because he’s got a full head of grey hair). The idea that Lana has daddy issues is not surprising in the least, but the idea that she’s happy because her older cop boyfriend/zaddy makes her happy is very surprising. But Lana wants us to know that it’s fine. She chatted recently with the LA Times, which you can read here. Some highlights:

On her happiness reflecting in her music: “There’s room now. There’s a little bit of a lightness to some of the stuff.”

Why she’s doing more press this time: “It’s just that people like it. I’m like, “Alright! Let me tell you about the album!” I remember when I made [the 2014 album] “Ultraviolence,” I put so much work into it. I mixed on my own console for months. And then I did extensive interviews and no one cared that I mixed anything. So I stopped promoting after that. I was like, “Honeymoon,” “Lust for Life” … just take them.”

Whether people misjudge her perfectionism as aloofness: “Maybe my privacy as aloofness. I’m not a perfectionist. My live shows are not perfect. They’re not choreographed to a T.

Being photographed with her boyfriend Sean “Sticks” Larkin, a cop from the reality show “Live PD.” “I didn’t know we were being photographed. I would’ve worn something different.”

Whether she was caught off guard with the photos:
“Yeah. It’s funny because I was with someone for years and we never had that problem.

Whether she worries about dating a cop: “Well, the thing is, he’s a good cop. He gets it. He sees both sides of things.

Does she mind that people care about her personal life? “Hell no. I care about what Bob Dylan is doing right now. I’m curious to know if he’s wearing a hoodie or a blazer. I get it.

Whether she watches TV: “I watch a lot of reality TV. I’m obsessed with “The Bachelor.”

The brutality of her songs: “It’s brutal out there! Even good guys don’t know what toxic masculinity is. My friends and I didn’t either. We had bad experiences that we didn’t share with each other. We were like, “Oh, that was so stupid that I got myself into that.” Now, we realize, “Oh, you actually didn’t.”

Her latest inspo. “Lately, I was so inspired by Greta Thunberg. I’m not saying it’s similar to what I’ve experienced, but it’s interesting when people say how “angry” she is. I think one of the reasons that climate-change advocates haven’t made more progress is because they are kindhearted. It’s not the Trumpian way of the iron fist. It’s very interesting to see someone who’s so young come off as so angry, and then see people’s reactions. I’m sure she smiles and is nice to her family, but why should she smile at people who are killing the planet? I really like when she said something to the effect of, “I don’t want to hear you say that we understand and we hear you. Because if that were really true, it would mean you were evil, because you’re not taking any action.” I think that line also sums up the #MeToo movement … and every cultural shift we’ve been experiencing lately.

[From The LA Times]

That’s an interesting observation about Greta Thunberg and the anger of a girl and how people – mostly men – react to it. That being said, did people ever talk about Lana being “angry”? No? We talk about how she’s sad. As for her cop boyfriend being one of the good ones… I hope so. Because as I get older, I would NEVER. I just hear too many horror stories about what it’s really like to date a cop and that makes me worry a little bit about Lana.

elle tatler

Ooh the 1970s JUMPED out. I love Elle Fanning’s Tatler cover – it feels so vintage, but in a cool way. Love the turquoise eye makeup and the scarf, A+. Elle is obviously still promoting Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and she still sounds a little bit in awe of the fact that life is so different for her now, from when she did the first Maleficent movie when she was 14. She’s 21 years old now and Angelina Jolie gives her advice about media, boys, and…jewelry! Yes, Angelina gave Elle a Cartier ring when they wrapped on Mistress of Evil. Can you imagine? Some highlights from this Tatler piece:

On femininity: “Aurora represents the youth of the generation who is accepting to all, no matter what, and she does it in her own soft way. I think it’s a nice message to tell women, it’s okay to be comfortable in your femininity. Kindness is not weakness – it’s quite the opposite.’

On the British royals: “Kate and Meghan are doing royal femininity very differently. I can’t imagine being in the public eye like that. Every single move you make is critiqued.’ And her favourite? ‘I like Harry. Isn’t he the fun one?’ she quips.

Being influenced by her big sister: ‘I saw my sister doing it and I was a huge ham growing up. We would constantly put on these scenes around the house. It wasn’t for anyone, only for ourselves, We would do lines, characters, it was very funny. It just felt right at home for us… We weren’t supposed to do this at all. My mom played tennis, my dad played baseball, my mom’s dad was a quarterback in the NFL. We were supposed to play tennis or something. Everyone says Dakota’s Meryl, and I’m Marilyn.’

Angelina bought her a ring as a wrap gift: Jolie presented her young co-star with the three-stone Cartier piece as a souvenir to remind the 21-year-old beauty of her character Aurora’s on-screen wedding. Elle laughed: “Maybe [Angelina] thought I’d be too sad to hand back the prop bling?”

The horse she shares with Dakota: The horse is named Goldie, and he was a gift from her sibling’s ‘Dreamer’ co-star Kurt Russell and is named after his “really cool wife”, Goldie Hawn. “He’s a blonde like us. And very proper. We ride him English and don’t use the Western saddle.”

Being nervous to meet Angelina when she was 14: “I was so young and so nervous. [When I saw her for the first time], she was with her eldest son and I just bear-hugged her and tried to break the ice in that way.”

Her relationship with Jolie now: “Our conversations were much more grown up. I felt safer in my own skin to ask questions.”

[From Tatler & The List]

I love hearing about wrap gifts! I feel like Angelina really cares about Dakota and wants to look after her a little bit. Imagine Angelina giving you a vintage Cartier ring!! Damn. And imagine Kurt Russell giving you a HORSE. As for this: “Everyone says Dakota’s Meryl, and I’m Marilyn.” Wait, what? That does not make any sense! How about this: one is Joan Fontaine and one is Olivia de Havilland.

As a modern-day Hollywood princess, set to reprise her role as a fairytale princess in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ soon, November cover star Elle Fanning is uniquely positioned to comment on royalty. On the current generation of royals, Fanning is very sympathetic to their place in the spotlight, saying: ‘Kate and Meghan are doing royal femininity very differently. I can’t imagine being in the public eye like that. Every single move you make is critiqued.’ And her favourite? ‘I like Harry. Isn’t he the fun one?’ she quips. SterlingKBrown1

Sterling K. Brown is covering the November issue of Men’s Health looking like a snack. I feel old writing that for a couple of reasons, but he does and he’s around my age so it’s not creepy! (See: Hecate and Tom Holland.) I have to confess that I was side-eyeing him after he kind of half-supported Olivia Munn when she called out the Predator director for hiring his sex offender friend. Props to Munn for doing that, and Sterling did support her but he called her “my dear” and it read weird to me. Now that we know what kind of person Olivia is, his response to her was likely more than generous, you know? (I just realized I wrote something similar the last time I covered him, but that’s ok!) So he’s still a snack! Plus they have shirtless photos of him my god. I may have bitten my lip a little looking at these. In Men’s Health he talked fitness of course, and he also opened up about losing his father young. His dad, Sterling (he’s named after him), died at just 45 from a heart attack. That’s awful! Here’s more:

His exercise philosophy:
“It’s easier to maintain a level of fitness than it is to lose it and try to get it back. You want to do enough that you feel like you’ve done something, but not so much that you don’t wanna do it again tomorrow. So it’s not about trying to kill yourself. It’s about trying to give yourself the inspiration to continue.”

His father, Sterling, passed at 45 from a diabetes-induced heart attack:
“I just cried. I just cried. I miss him. Pops would’ve loved this stuff.” [referring to Sterling K. playing sports and his acting success]

“Sterling always felt like an old man’s name because it was my old man’s name. But now it’s my name.”

He’s ok with crying and being vulnerable:
“Crying has never been a thing for me, like as a way to not be masculine, because my dad would watch a movie and it was just boo-fuckin’-hoo all the way through the whole thing. We would both be crying together, whether it was an animated movie or whatever. That was never forbidden or taboo. I was allowed to feel, because he felt.”

“Men want to suffer through stuff. It serves us in certain circumstances, and in others we leave well enough alone for too long. I mean, if we’re looking at something as simple as prostate cancer and being able to check oneself, and the sort of fear or discomfort that the community at large may experience due to good old-fashioned homophobia—there’s foolishness that keeps us from living our best lives.”

He wants to live to 100
“I think when Pops passed, I had sort of a recognition of the fact that 45 was young…I just don’t want to give in to the statistical analysis that says that is my fate. So I try to do things as proactively as possible to ensure that I’m around to see my children’s children and be of value to them when they come into the world. There’s so much to live for, and I don’t want to sell myself short by thinking I don’t have a right to longevity and vitality any more or less than anyone else.”

He’s passionate about acting
“I want to hopefully give you some sense of inspiration, either to make the world a better place or for you to be a better person. And so when I step into a theater, when I step on set, it is my sanctuary. It’s me and it’s not me. I’m a vessel for a story to be told, for a perspective to be illuminated.”

[From Men’s Health]

What was he saying again? Oh that’s right, fitness and being committed and passionate about his work. There’s also a video, I’ve embedded that below, where Sterling does his workout routine and explains his circuit. It has crazy pushup burpees which I know I would hate but it looks very similar to the circuits they do in my gym classes. (I’m doing harder workouts that aren’t just cardio.) You get to see Sterling work out including a part at about 2:40 where he does reverse situps. I can’t believe I get paid to do this! You can tell how much he loves working out.

Anyway um I can relate to what he said about how it’s easier to maintain fitness than get it back. After I had a minor medical procedure this spring I lost my workout mojo and I had to fight to get it back. It was well worth it, but it wasn’t easy.

So far on their tour of Pakistan, Prince William and Catherine have leaned in hard to the Princess Diana nostalgia which was expected, as Diana made several trips there and was very well received. Several of Kate’s outfits so far on the trip have been subtle or not-so-subtle tributes to her mother-i…

Here are more photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today in Pakistan. After flying to the Hindu Kush mountains to look like Spanish conquistadors eyeballing a glacier, they went to a remote mountain settlement of Bumburet in the Chitral region to meet with the Kalash people. Princess Diana had also visited the settlement decades ago, and the people remembered Diana well. They were there to see the damage from a 2015 flood (from the melting glacier, see how it’s all connected?). They met with victims of the flood and they continued to highlight global warming.

Maybe it’s just the photos I’m looking at, but William continues to be an absolute charisma vacuum on this tour (arguably on every tour). Kate seemed especially keen though – she was happily talking to people and enjoying herself as she and William both wore feathered headdresses. Kate is really capable of being so cute and personable in these situations, which is one of the reasons why I’ve never really bought the “Kate has crippling social anxiety” argument. I don’t think she does. I think she enjoys some events and doesn’t enjoy others and she doesn’t really have a poker face about it.

Also: for all of this “following in Diana’s footsteps” stuff with the tour, it’s a wonder that few sites have mentioned WHY Diana was so interested in Pakistan for years. It’s because of her lover Hasnat Khan, the man she was deeply in love with, the man she dreamt of marrying when her divorce was finalized. She hoped her Pakistan tours would convince him that they could be together and happily live in both worlds. Khan remained unconvinced, and he was reportedly quite horrified when Diana met his mother during one of her tours.

There was a lot of information that came out about Matt Lauer as he was fired from NBC in November 2017. A lot of information came out at the time, and more info came out afterwards. I’ve always thought that once Lauer was fired, women at NBC finally felt safe enough to start telling their stories (internally at NBC, or anonymously in interviews) without it leading to huge career repercussions, because that’s how much power Lauer had within NBC up until he was fired. Very few people could say anything about him to anyone. That being said, there were always rumors. Rumors of “affairs” and rumors of his sh-tty marriage and rumors of his treatment of female colleagues. This Page Six story reads like a blind item but I’m not going to be gross – this poor woman’s career was destroyed because she didn’t want to be Matt Lauer’s meat.

Disgraced “Today” anchor Matt Lauer allegedly had an affair with a famed and well-respected broadcaster, Page Six is exclusively told, representing a “clear imbalance of power.” The woman signed a nondisclosure agreement when she left NBC.

We have agreed not to name the broadcaster at her request, but a TV source said: “Matt had influence over everyone’s career — one word and your career would be sunk. I know there was a clear imbalance of power in this woman’s relationship with Matt.”

In his new book, “Catch and Kill,” Ronan Farrow also claims Lauer repeatedly harassed a fellow on-air NBC personality, who was allegedly forced to sign a strict NDA when she left the network in 2012. It’s not clear if it’s the same woman we’ve learned about. Farrow reports that the unnamed former NBC broadcaster claimed Lauer and another NBC exec propositioned her and made lewd comments about her during broadcasts. She said, “I was like meat on a hook … I would walk into work with a knot in my stomach. I would come home and cry.”

She alleged that when she turned the men down, she was “punished” and got fewer assignments, adding: “My career took a sharp nosedive.” Although she didn’t make a formal report to HR, she did tell colleagues. When she left, NBC forced her to sign a nondisclosure agreement that waived her right to sue and banned her from making disparaging comments about the network, the book states.

[From Page Six]

I think I know who it is, if it’s the same woman in Page Six’s story and Ronan Farrow’s story. But the thing is, it actually sounds like about three women who all got pushed out of NBC years before Lauer was fired. Part of Lauer’s argument is now that he did NOT have that much power at NBC. Which is clearly bullsh-t – he walked around 30 Rockefeller like a king, and whoever wasn’t “in favor” with him got pushed out or punished by the executives.

HABITATFOR_B772_340964_0024

Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States and national treasure, turned 95 on October 1. President Carter also made the news last week because he fell at home and got a nasty black eye and needed some stitches. But, he and his wife of 73 years, Rosalynn Carter, were in Nashville later that same night to speak at the start of the 36th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project with Habitat for Humanity. The former president and first lady were back building houses on Monday morning. During a break, the president chatted with People about his work alongside Rosalynn for Habitat for Humanity, and how he’s made it to 95:

For the record, Jimmy Carter never expected to live this long either.

That’s what he told PEOPLE with a small laugh last week as he took a break from helping build Habitat for Humanity houses in Nashville, Tennessee. For 36 years, he and wife Rosalynn Carter have led an annual build for Habitat, erecting and fixing up more than 4,000 homes.

The partnership has inextricably bound them together — Habitat and the organization’s most famous supporters, there almost since the beginning.

Recalling the start of what would become a decades- and globe-spanning volunteer project, President Carter says he and Mrs. Carter weren’t exactly thinking about longevity when they and a few dozen others bussed up to New York City to work on a six-story apartment building in 1984. The couple had already volunteered with Habitat back in Georgia when, in passing while he was in N.Y.C. to speak at a church, President Carter swung by a Habitat build site there and said, “We need to bring some volunteers in to help.” . . .

This year alone the Carters helped build 21 homes in the Nashville area, expanding a neighborhood Habitat first started about 10 years ago.

“One of the things Jesus taught was: If you have any talents, try to utilize them for the benefit of others,” says President Carter, now 95. “That’s what Rose and I have both tried to do.” . . .

“It’s hard to live until you’re 95 years old,” he tells PEOPLE. “I think the best explanation for that is to marry the best spouse: someone who will take care of you and engage and do things to challenge you and keep you alive and interested in life.”

[From People]

I love listening to President Carter speak, and I love reading his interviews. He always comes across as such a humble, thoughtful, genuine person who takes his role as a former president and still-public servant very seriously. I was anxious when I heard that he fell last week, and I’m so glad that he seems to have recovered well and got right back to work. People reported (in the first linked article) that at the kickoff event, he told the crowd, “‘I had a No. 1 priority and that was to come to Nashville to build houses!’” That’s dedication. I can’t imagine the current occupant of the White House doing that.

I also appreciate what President Carter said about his wife, that it’s important to find someone who will keep you engaged and challenged. I’m sure that that doing work that is meaningful to him keeps him going, too. I just want to wrap him, Justice Ginsburg, and Rep. John Lewis in bubble wrap and keep them safe!
