I met up with one of my students last night, Erik. Erik is a cinephile, and he tries to see as many films as possible, as many times as possible. With Erik, as soon as you mention movies, you might get an hour-long monologue. Anyway, I was encouraging him to see Destroyer, and then we started talkin…

For as long as we’ve known Gwyneth Paltrow, she’s been a raging sizeist. She hates overweight people, and she will tell them that their weight gain disappoints her. She’ll say it right to their fat faces. I would argue that the whole reason Goop exists is because of Gwyneth’s creepy obsession with size and weight and thinness. Her message has never been aimed at overweight people though – she’s content to merely suggest that already slender women need to lose some more weight, lest they become…F-A-T. But how much money can CEO Gwyneth make off of pushing pseudoscience onto thin women? It turns out that Gwyneth has just discovered that there’s a whole other market: she could also sell sh-t to women who are NOT thin. GASP.

Gwyneth Paltrow is taking Goop in a more inclusive direction. The actress and CEO’s company has partnered with Universal Standard for a capsule collection of five women’s styles, which will come in sizes 00 to 40. The size-inclusive line was created to push the conversation about inclusivity in a fashion-forward manner, according to Paltrow and Universal Standard’s Polina Veksler and Alexandra Waldman.

“Goop is a wellness site with self-care at its core. Our focus is helping women make choices that make them feel good and eliminate shame in their lives, whether that’s linked to sexual health, age, or stress,” Paltrow said in a statement. “I believe we’re stronger if all archetypes are included, and we’re all able to be seen and lift each other up, which is why we partnered with Universal Standard to create this line of beautifully made pieces. We’re excited to work with them in this new capacity, and hope this collaboration continues to push this conversation into the mainstream.”

“Our goal is to bring true inclusivity to every part of the industry,” Waldman added. “For Universal Standard, our mission of fashion freedom shouldn’t be isolated to our brand — we want everyone to embrace the idea that all women, regardless of size, deserve equal access. We’re thrilled to work with Goop to continue manifesting this idea and changing the industry for the better.”

The line launched Tuesday on Goop.com and is available in-store at Goop Lab in New York and Los Angeles. The collection includes five “elegant essentials,” like a wool tuxedo jacket ($335), a brushed-back hi-low dress ($295), a brushed-back jumpsuit ($295), wool cropped trousers ($225) and a wool peacoat jacket ($395).

I’m imagining how Gwyneth’s little Goop minions tried to persuade her to do this. “You know how there are people larger than a size 8?” *Gwyneth stares off into the distance, with a vague aura of disgust* “Well, we could make clothes – just a small collection – for those bigger-than-size-8 people.” *Gwyneth sighs deeply and tries to think of how many juice cleanses it will take to detox from these negative thoughts* What am I saying? Pretty soon, Gwyneth will give an interview and claim that she *invented* overweight people.

On this week’s episode of Show Your Work, we begin with Michael B Jordan, the Movie Star. Hollywood doesn’t produce very many movie stars anymore. For the last few years, every time a movie star can’t open a movie, we start talking all over again about the death of the movie star. And here comes MBJ…

Game time! Ready? Okay, all you have to do is look at this photo that Kourtney Kardashian posted of herself and her son, three-year-old Reign, to Instagram over the weekend and tell me what’s wrong with it:

Christmas shopping

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on Nov 24, 2018 at 11:18am PST

If you’re like me, you answered, “Nothing.” But we were wrong, because everything is wrong with it, according to the Parenting Police. The biggest complaint they had was the length of Reign’s hair. Kourtney’s mothering fail seems to all stem from allowing her son to *gasp* grow his hair long.

Kourtney Kardashian is being criticized for not cutting her son Reign’s hair.

Although many fans simply commented on the photo by asking whether the reality star could also pick up something for them, some social media users took the opportunity to mom-shame Kardashian over her son’s long locks.

“Cut his hair. So rediculous [sic],” wrote one troll. “And don’t state that he wants it that long. Dear god, he is a child, he does not know any better. You did the same with Mason. What is your point?”

Another simply wrote, “Cut that poor child’s hair.”

Other commenters expressed frustration over having trouble telling Reign apart from his 6-year-old sister Penelope, who also has long hair of a similar color.

In addition to complaining about Reign’s hair length, numerous social media users also shamed Kardashian for not giving her son a towel, as they thought he appeared to look cold in the image. “Dude your kid looks freezing, aren’t u gonna do something,” wrote one critic.

Others slammed Kardashian for saying she was shopping in the photo caption, arguing that she should have been paying more attention to her child.

[From People]

Oh, for the love of Pete! They can’t even work out their own attack, “And don’t state that he wants it that long. Dear god, he is a child, he does not know any better.” There is no “better,” it’s a personal choice. Whether that choice is Reign or Kourtney’s it doesn’t matter because clearly, they are both in favor of it. Honestly, getting a kid a haircut is a pain in the behind for everyone involved. If the kid is past the “screams bloody murder as soon as the shears come out” phase, then they squiggle and complain the entire time. Even if they go to one of those kid-oriented hair salons, the child gets so fixated on the video game or cartoon, they keep ducking out of the stylist’s reach to watch the screen. Seriously, letting them grow it out will add years to your life. Heaven knows I am not a Kourtney apologist, but this is all nonsense. There’s a towel right behind him, if he was cold, he or Kourtney would grab it. As for the comments about her ignoring her child, obviously this is a photo op. Have you ever tried to type on a computer balanced on your knees? The only thing she’d be purchasing is a new laptop to replace the one that crashed to the pool deck.

There’s been a lot of buzz about Sandra Bullock’s Netflix horror film, Bird Box, which starts streaming on December 21. I love post apocalyptic movies and am so excited for this one. You can see the trailer below and the premise is that something outside that people see causes them to go crazy and harm themselves and others. The only cure is to stay inside or to go outside blindfolded. Sandra’s character has two young children she’s protecting, (it’s unclear from the trailer if they’re both hers), so it has that added layer of scariness. It also features John Malkovich, Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) and Sarah Paulson.

Sandra was at the Berlin premiere yesterday in this one shoulder Alberta Ferretti gown featuring rainfall-like sequins. It seems like we’ve seen variations of this pattern on her dress so many times, but I still like it. It’s more of an awards show gown than a premiere dress, but she looks gorgeous in it. My only complaint is that it would look more striking in a darker color. Imagine if it was gunmetal grey or darker with those sequins. Incidentally I was looking through our archives for older Alberta Ferretti gowns and I found this incredible metallic dress that Laura Dern wore to the 2015 Oscars. Ferretti doesn’t always get it right though.

This makes me wonder what’s going on with Sandra’s relationship. She’s been with Bryan Randall for over three years now and we have heard engagement rumors about them for almost as long. She tragically lost her father this fall along with two of her dogs around the same time, so this year has been really hard for her. I hope she’s ok. Sandra’s two children, son Louis, eight, and daughter Laila, six, must be a real comfort and joy to her. During her press tour for Oceans 8 this summer she told some cute stories about their sibling rivalry. (Sidenote if you have not seen Oceans 8 yet, rent it! It’s a lot of fun.)

Here’s the trailer for Bird Box. I’m so watching this over the holidays.
