Jennifer Aniston was photographed leaving the Good Morning America studios on Monday in New York. Since then I keep expecting to see the interview, or some headline about why she was there and what she was promoting. There hasn’t been anything. The next day, Courteney Cox was photographed heading to…

Chris Pine’s Netflix movie, Outlaw King, doesn’t come out until November 9th. Even though that feels far away, they had a big premiere for it last night at the BFI London Film Festival, and here are some snazzy photos of Monsieur Pine. Good lord, he’s a good looking man. I also enjoy the fact that he’s a bit of a dandy – he loves clothes, and he’s been on a real three-piece-suit kick recently. He enjoys a vest/waistcoat. These photos are basically it – I just wanted to gawk at Pine’s pretty.

I still haven’t gotten a strong vibe one way or the other about whether this film is going to have an Oscar campaign. The trailer looked good, and lord knows the Academy Awards enjoy historical films about historical white dudes, especially when the dudes are shouty and accented. Pine plays Robert the Bruce, and he attempted a Scottish accent for the film. Like, even though it’s set in the 14th century, I guess people still expect to hear the modern Scottish accent. At the premiere, Pine explained how he worked on his accent:

“There was obviously a ton of stuff on the internet and YouTube was a great resource. There was a guy I found who was a former captain of the Scottish rugby team who had a great measure and cadence and pace and sense of tone so that is who I glommed on to. I forget his name right now.”

[From The Scottish Sun]

So many actors these days talk about how they study YouTube clips for accent inspo. I think it’s cute and funny that Pine did the same, and that he’s using a modern Scottish accent of a rugby player. Anyway, just look at the pretty. The pretty doesn’t have to speak!

Two weeks ago, Taylor Swift made headlines for her voter registration appeal and revealing exactly who she would be voting for in Tennessee. She followed up at the American Music Awards with a reminder to her fans to get out and vote. And yesterday she posted a note on Instagram about early voting:

Before I wrote this post, I only knew Elle King as the daughter of SNL alum Rob Schneider and the woman who sang the insanely catchy “Ex’s and Oh’s,” but there’s so much more to her story, and it ain’t pretty.

The 29-year-old singer spoke exclusively with People Magazine about the past tumultuous 18 months of her life. In that time, she secretly married boyfriend Andrew Ferguson a mere three weeks after meeting him in a bar, canceled her “official” wedding, and has battled substance abuse, depression and PTSD. She told the magazine that, “Last year almost broke me, but I’m stronger now because of it.”

Elle has a new album coming out on Friday called Shake the Spirit, where she shares her experience in song, a project she refers to as “a very healing experience.” Here’s more of what she shared in the interview:

On her whirlwind romance:
“We were two young, crazy people. Before we even met, I had started kind of losing my mind. I was just searching for any kind of connection and realness… just f—ing begging for love.”

On the implosion of the marriage, and getting help:
“I was in a destructive marriage. I was at the lowest point in my life. … I was not well. I couldn’t look people in the eyes. I literally couldn’t leave my house for weeks at a time.”

“There’s two ways out. You can take the bad way out or you can get help. I got help because I knew that I have felt good in my life and I knew I could get there again.”

“If I didn’t get help, I probably wouldn’t be … I don’t know. I don’t wanna think like that. I think that reaching out saved my life. I don’t wanna think of any other outcome that could have happened. I feel like the more I talk about it, maybe it could reach somebody … reach somebody that feels alone.”

On her substance abuse:
“I was partying so hard to numb emotions that I couldn’t handle at the time. I realized it was just prolonging the inevitable of dealing with them. And what you have to do, unfortunately, is just feel them, and that sucks. I thought that by doing drugs it would buy me time to feeling better. And when that wasn’t working, I just realized I was in this other cycle, and that I was creating it myself. And I realized I needed to cut all the darkness out of my life.”

On the new album:
“It really is such emotional music. I feel much lighter, because, it’s like, if you go to therapy for a year, you feel better. Any art form is the same thing as talking it out, but I’m not just talking it out — I’m yelling it out on a lot of songs. It’s a very freeing feeling.”

[Via People]

Elle may have survived, but some of the things she said in the interview indicate that she may still have a way to go. She admits to still smoking marijuana and drinking, insisting, “I have different fun now — it’s not having fun out of pain.” As someone who has family members who have had their issues with drugs, and continue to drink “for fun” – and end up getting downright sloppy, it just seems like she’d be much better off if she abstained from everything. Wow, I sound like her mother.

Despite this, Elle asserts that, “I’ve changed a lot. I’m finding my own self-love, and I’m inviting love, outwardly in. … You can go through something crazy in your life, and you can come back from it.” She’s got a unique sound and I really like her music, so I hope she’s truly on the right path.

Earlier, I suggested that Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth were making me re-evaluate my Chris rankings. I even had the audacity to imply that Hemsworth could outrank Pine. For this, I sincerely apologize. My Best Chris attended the European premiere of his new movie Outlaw King at the London Film…

QVC FFANY Shoes on Sale

These photos of Katy Perry are from a week ago, at the QVC “Shoes on Sale” gala. We didn’t get to cover these photos because we were too busy covering Princess Eugenie’s wedding! People were talking about the pics though – Katy looking like a Barbie all of a sudden, complete with a janky Barbie wig to cover her janky pixie cut. Personally, I’ve never been impressed with Katy’s styling, because her references are always super-obvious, like Betty Page and Dita Von Teese and Twiggy and Barbie. She changes styles like Madonna, but let’s give Madonna some credit: she has rarely beaten us over the head with the blatant hijacking of another woman’s “look,” and Madonna usually admits her inspirations quite openly. Katy always tries to pretend that she’s some kind of style vanguard. Speaking of, Katy’s hair stylist Rick Henry gave a lengthy interview to Us Weekly about the evolution of Katy’s ephemeral look. Some highlights:

Why Katy is still doing the blonde pixie: “We just wrapped up a year-long tour where there was a lot of styling going on, so we make sure that we use products that are going to be benefiting her hair and not hurting it. As you can tell, we’re bleaching her hair out all the time, so constant conditioning treatments is key to keeping the hair strong and healthy.”

Katy doesn’t want normal hair: “Katy is a very creative person, so normal hair isn’t fun to her. She makes for a great canvas to work on. No one wants to have the same hair everyday when they’re on the red carpet all the time, so we’re always trying to find that look and change it… We’re always trying to figure out what the next look is gonna be.”

Katy’s signature pixie cut. “She’s rocking her short hair and loves it. It gives women a sense of sexiness and takes a confident woman to pull off shorter hair. I love Twiggy and when I’m working with someone who has such a beautiful face and jaw structure it’s easy to pull of certain things, so I like to look back on things and people like that to get inspiration.”

Katy’s future hair: “She could say one thing today and one thing tomorrow… we’ll see what the future holds. … I feel like to stay relevant in the world and keep up on the modern trends, you have to change your look. The sky is the limit. I don’t think we have any boundaries of what we’re gonna do.”

[From Us Weekly]

Shall I start some kind of HAIR WAR? I’m ready: Katy Perry’s blonde pixie cut is trash. She’s had it too long, the bleach job looks cheap, the style doesn’t flatter her face and the blonde shade doesn’t work with her coloring. Some Katy stans will argue that she’s naturally blonde, and I’ll argue back that her natural hair color is probably a lot warmer – like a honey/dirty blonde, and the sh-t she has now is way too ashy. If I was in charge of Katy’s hair, I’d send her away for six months to grow out her hair and then I’d make her try a shaggy bob – without bangs – in a light brown.

Eagle-eyed people who saw a video of Ariana Grande’s performance for A Very Wicked Halloween (that’s below) noticed one important detail. She had covered up a tattoo on her left ring finger with a bandaid. (A Very Wicked Halloween is a special with Broadway stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth which will air on NBC October 29th.) That’s one of the many tattoos she got for Pete, a much more literal one as it’s his name. Pete has the initials “AG” on his thumb. He still had that tattoo in paparazzi photos taken yesterday. As I mentioned yesterday, we just saw that Pete had the bunny ear tattoo for Ariana on his neck transformed into a heart. That was a harbinger of their breakup. Now I’m wondering how Ariana will be able to perform many of her new songs. There’s the song “Pete Davidson” of course, she’ll probably skip that one, but also “Bed” and I’m sure a lot of the other songs on her new album were inspired by their relationship. As for Pete we heard yesterday that he was the one staying in the NY penthouse Ariana pays for but that’s no longer the case. E! reports that he’s staying with family and that he’s doing ok, all things considered.

A source close to Davidson told E! News he’s “staying with family in New York right now.”

The source provided some insight as to how the comedian is coping with the end of his engagement and who he’s leaning on for support. “Pete’s doing fine,” the insider told E! News. “He has a strong support system of family and friends around him that are keeping him laughing.”

They added, “While Pete’s focusing on himself, he always wishes the best for Ari.”

[From E! Online]

I like that Ariana returned the engagement ring right away and that she covered up her tattoo for Pete. Plus she’s the one who broke up with him. These are all good signs that she’s ready to move on. I really hope she does that. She didn’t take a break from posting to Instagram as she said she was going to though. She has a bunch of stories up with videos of her pet pig, Piggy Smalls, along with some photos. Maybe that’s why she deleted the Instagram story saying she needed time off. She knew it wouldn’t last.

In this video you can see the bandaid on her left hand

If there’s anyone who could make me re-evaluate my Chris rankings, it’s Tessa Thompson. Ted Cruz in North Carolina

If you’re anything like me, you were idly reading stuff on Twitter this morning and you wondered why “Heidi Cruz” began trending. Heidi Cruz is the long-suffering wife of Senator Ted “Zodiac Killer” Cruz, who is up for reelection in Texas. His opponent is Beto O’Rourke, the charismatic, good-looking, badass Democrat. Will Beto win? I hope so. Do I think Ted Cruz is a charisma vacuum who likely murders hoboes? Yes. Do I also have some kind of weird sympathy for Heidi Cruz? Maybe. So that’s why Heidi Cruz started trending – The Atlantic did a soft-focus interview with her about how her life is kind of crazy and maybe we should have sympathy for her. The problem is that even Heidi Cruz fully admits that she knew what she was signing up for when she married the Zodiac Killer. The details in this piece… well, here’s a small taste:

She loved the Zodiac Killer at first sight: He was “super-smart” and “really fun” and looked like a “1950s movie star.” “It was love at first sight,” she told me.

His first gift to her was a pearl necklace: Call me every day when your day is done, she instructed him. And he did call her, every day that spring, at about 3 or 4 a.m. Later that summer, Ted gave her a strand of pearls. Probably fake, she still thinks, but they were from Bergdorf Goodman. And this was special: She’d mentioned once that she liked to go to Bergdorf’s, to look at the china and other delicate things behind glass, and he’d listened.

What he insisted on for their wedding: Heidi found herself planning a May wedding to a man who, for all his pretension, insisted they play “A Whole New World,” the popular Disney song, at the end of the ceremony. She didn’t understand: They had a band, she told him—a violinist, no less! Why on earth would they play a CD? “Because no one can do Aladdin,” he said. She relented, and it became a theme of sorts. Or that’s how she remembers it, anyway. On a magic carpet ride.

What she wishes she had known: “I would say to younger women: Be intentional about your decisions. And I do appreciate that Ted started our life together with that song, because there’s some truth to it. He’ll be like, ‘It’s such a great life! We have so much adventure ahead! It’s like our magic-carpet ride.’ And sometimes I’m like, ‘I hope we don’t hit the cement.’”

[From The Atlantic]

First off, I would be out the door as soon as the guy insisted on playing a song (off a CD!) from Aladdin. I don’t care if it’s a beautiful song. That sh-t is tacky at a wedding. But the entire piece reads like that – Heidi is more sympathetic than her husband, but to be fair, Charles Manson is more sympathetic than Ted Cruz. She comes across like a rich, bored housewife with ennui. She’s not dripping with self-pity, to her credit, but you can tell that she’s like “I could have had a successful career on my own, why did I subjugate my own interests to marry the Zodiac Killer?” Plus, her husband ended up kissing up to Trump after Trump attacked her looks. Why would you stay with a man who did that? The Atlantic never asks.

Some reactions to The Atlantic article:

Heidi Cruz is a ‘victim’ according to the Atlantic. Victim of what? Victim of being married to Ted Cruz. Ok, now I understand. That makes sense. #ThursdayThoughts

I give a lot of credit to Heidi Cruz for being able to stand by her husband @tedcruz after he accepted the endorsement of a man (@realDonaldTrump) who verbally and brutally attacked her in front of the nation.

That’s why I support @BetoORourke

Princess Eugenie wedding

I can’t believe how much time has been spent this week on discussing whether or not the Duchess of Sussex is a thunder-stealer extraordinaire for daring to be visibly pregnant at Princess Eugenie’s wedding. It’s clear to me at this point that Eugenie’s wedding rolled around when Meghan was passing the first trimester and her little bump was beginning to show. She and Harry told close family before the wedding, like Doria, Prince Charles, Prince William and the Queen. But everybody else? I’m assuming Meghan told other people at Eugenie’s wedding and that it wasn’t some big deal. But the media is trying to make the most out of the Miracle Meg: Thunder Stealer narrative.

The world heard the news of Meghan Markle’s pregnancy on Monday — but the royal family had a heads-up three days earlier. As the extended family gathered at Windsor Castle to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, the parents-to-be couldn’t hold back their excitement. Why use that occasion to spill the baby beans? “It was a happy family event, and that’s where happy news gets shared,” a close source tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story.

It’s likely they had already told Harry’s brother, Prince William, and father, Prince Charles, before the wedding. It is thought that Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, was told in person when she attended the launch of her daughter’s charity cookbook last month. Insiders say that baby buzz, which had started slowly in late summer, was only getting louder and that the couple felt it would be too difficult to keep the pregnancy under wraps during their 16-day tour Down Under. By announcing the news before the tour, the couple has been free to talk openly about it — from accepting baby gifts to getting a sneak peek of what’s to come.

[From People]

In retrospect, the timing of the announcement made perfect sense. I would even argue that announcing the pregnancy as soon as they touched down in Australia was a brilliant PR move for the British Commonwealth ties – this tour will be remembered not just as Harry and Meghan’s first big tour as a married couple, but also the tour with Meghan’s little baby bump, where Meg-Mania took hold in Oz. As for Eugenie’s stolen thunder… keep in mind that for most people, the day really was all about Eugenie. She got her wedding day to herself – no one besides close family knew about Meghan’s pregnancy until days later.
