While the British royal family would never admit it, they do pay attention to what big events are happening around the world and they usually try to avoid doing direct competition for attention. I’m not saying the royals completely shut down for every awards show, but usually they try not to be on a royal tour in the middle of a big event happening somewhere else. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are doing things differently, it seems. They chose to make this three day trip to Morocco on Oscar weekend. Perhaps they didn’t care about the Oscars, or maybe they were attempting some “counterprogramming” on an international scale. In any case, I don’t completely hate it.

I already covered some of Meghan’s looks from the Moroccan trip – go here for Valentino, here for the Dior and here for the casual look – and the photos in this post are from their last full day in Morocco. I read that officially, their “tour” ends today, but they’re staying in Morocco overnight and won’t leave until tomorrow morning. First up: the photos of Meghan and Harry at the Andalusian Gardens, the photos of Meghan in the black dress and white jacket. I can’t find an ID on this pleated dress, but it’s such a cute maternity look. She paired it with a Babaton jacket in cream, which she’s worn before. The best part of this look? The GAS Bijoux statement earrings. She has the face for big earrings.

Earlier on Monday, Meghan and Harry visited the Moroccan Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports to learn more about the equine therapy program. Meghan’s jacket is J.Crew, but no one has the ID on her top. It’s sort of cute, but this is one time when I’ll say that Meghan is copying Kate. Kate OWNS that whole “skinny jeans and striped top” look. Granted, many women do that look, but Kate is known for it. The J.Crew jacket is super-cute though. Good blend of mass-market pieces and couture on this trip.

Brie Larson is already an Oscar winner and she was invited to present at the Oscars because of corporate synergy: Disney owns ABC, Disney owns Marvel, and Brie’s Captain Marvel comes out in a few weeks. She didn’t even bother bringing anyone from her family or a close friend as an Oscar date – she arrived with Samuel L. Jackson, her costar, and they presented together. Brie already looks tired and her Captain Marvel promotion hasn’t even really started! Her gown here is Celine – I actually think it’s worth noting that Brie has an incredible figure and she can wear pretty much anything and it will hang beautifully. The dress itself is fine. But how she styled it… good lord. Her hair looked unwashed and unstyled. Her makeup looked like she did it herself in the limo over. I suspect she ate a pot brownie before she arrived on the carpet.

Tessa Thompson in Chanel. I get that a few people wanted to pay tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld, but this dress is a sausage casing with ruffles. She doesn’t even look like she can walk in it. I expect more from Tessa, she’s one of my faves.

Here are some of the hot guys from the Oscars (there weren’t a ton). Stephan James wore a fabulous red velvet Etro tuxedo. Henry Golding was a dream in a custom Ralph Lauren tuxedo. Chris Evans decided to go with a pop of color with a great blue jacket. And one of the highlights of the red carpet was James McAvoy stanning The Favourite.

This post is devoted to the only two monarchs I recognize, the Queen GOAT and the most benevolent Queen Mirren. Serena Williams, GOAT, got a gig as an Oscar presenter. She did the presentation for A Star Is Born’s Best Picture clip. I’m still not 100% on why she was chosen for that – I’m not even sure Serena and Gaga are friends? – or what the rhyme or reason was, but sure. It sort of worked. Alexis Ohanian was supposed to be Serena’s Oscar date but Olympia was feeling a bit sick so daddy stayed home with their daughter and Serena flew solo. She wore this custom Armani gown which was a lot prettier in motion. I wish she would have done really big hair with this gown.

Also: Nike dropped their new Serena commercial on Oscar Sunday. I cried. A few times.

As for Benevolent Queen Helen Mirren, she wore this fantastic Schiaparelli gown with multiple layers of different colored silk gauze, all to make a pretty pink dress. She looked amazing.
