Dennis Quaid and The Sharks

Two months after Dennis Quaid’s third divorce (to Kimberly Buffington), he began dating Santa Auzina. That was in 2016. They were still going strong in late 2018 and into 2019. There was even talk that Dennis might be ready to get hitched for a fourth time at the age of 64 (Santa Auzina was 32 at the time). But now that relationship is over, and Dennis Quaid, now 65 years old, is dating a 26-year-old PhD student. My goodness.

Moving on so fast? Dennis Quaid is currently dating Laura Savoie after splitting from his now ex-girlfriend, Santa Auzina. Savoie is a 26-year-old PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin’s Red McCombs School of Business. She also earned her master’s degree at the University of Notre Dame after attending an undergraduate program at Pepperdine University, where she graduated as valedictorian in 2015.

The graduate student’s Instagram, while private, features several pictures of her with the 65-year-old Parent Trap actor, whom she claimed to “love” in one post of the couple kissing. She also shared a picture to the secured account that showed the duo embracing each other, which she captioned: “Never been happier.”

Quaid isn’t the first celebrity Savoie has been romantically linked to. An insider told Us Weekly that she was also involved with Entourage alum Jeremy Piven, but it is unclear when they dated.

Prior to Quaid’s romance with Savoie, the A Dog’s Purpose star tied the knot three times. He was married to actress P. J. Soles from 1978 to 1983, Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001 and Kimberly Quaid from 2004 to 2018.

Oh, this woman was with Jeremy Piven? Yikes! I mean, it’s fine. It’s not my choice to date The Piv and a 65-year-old former heartthrob with addiction issues, but everybody’s different. I guess I’m just always surprised by Dennis Quaid and his ability to just keep on attracting younger and younger women. By the time he’s 80, he’ll be dating 18-year-olds. Maybe he’s trying to be the new Jack Nicholson or something.

Kaiser sent me this great in-depth interview from the L.A. Times with Emma Thompson; if you’re a fan, it’s worth a read in its entirety. She talks about some of the issues that she discussed with The New York Times around being a woman in the industry, walking away from Luck because of John Lasseter’s job at Skydance, and some of what she’s going to be doing to try to help younger women have a safer, more positive experience on and off movie sets.

Men have a huge motorway to power vs. women’s rutted track
“Women, on the other hand, have a kind of rutted track, on which there are many boulders. You can’t even get a bicycle down it; you have to get off the bike and lift it over things.”

On being criticized for being an activist
“I get in trouble all the time… If you don’t want to get in trouble you’re never going to get anything done or changed.”

“I know people will say, it’s OK for me — I’m established, I’m successful and I’m old. But I’ve been getting in trouble since I was young. So you can get to where you want to go and be in trouble the whole way through. If nothing else, I am proof of that.”

On “the gauntlet she threw down over [John] Lasseter”:
“I can’t speak up about women’s rights and then not do it. The same way you can’t say ‘skinniness doesn’t matter, we shouldn’t do that’ and then kill yourself to be tiny for movies. It doesn’t work.”

On “the complaint that increased attention to sexual harassment has left men unsure of how to behave”:
“Get a grip guys, it’s not rocket science. You just behave with respect and courtesy. Now shut up and get on with it. And please don’t make this your… problem. I’m so fed up with that I just want to smack them.”

On pay equity:
“I’ve had people say, ‘Well, it’s more complicated than that.’ No it’s not. It’s work that has to be done, and you pay someone to do it and you don’t pay them less because she’s a woman.”

She asked female workers on Last Christmas to talk about their experiences:
“They identified all sorts of things . . . . Such as it’s quite difficult to say that someone is being inappropriate or difficult if that person costs much more to replace than you. If you’re a runner, a little lass on the set, you can be replaced in two minutes. So if you’re being bullied or got at by a member of the higher-status community it’s very hard to say anything.”

On wanting “to help make women feel safer” on set
“Bullies and predators are very clever about when they try to intimidate and abuse. They don’t do it when there’s someone right next to them who’s going to say, ‘What … do you think you’re doing?’”

[From The L.A. Times]

I love and appreciate that Emma wants to take more concrete steps to help women on her films have positive, safe, enriching experiences. I hope that other people in positions of power have read this and decide to hold similar meetings. I also am jealous of the reporter, Mary McNamara, who mentioned that Emma’s husband, Greg Wise, and comedian Hannah Gadsby also happened to be home when she and Emma sat down for their interview. Nanette is still one of the most powerful performances I’ve ever seen. I also wonder what it’s like for the people whose home Emma and Greg were renting via Airbnb. I assume that they probably don’t get starstruck, but still, can you imagine getting that notification (or a notification for someone whose work you admire) and realizing that they are going to be staying in your house?

Brad PittCINEMA : 72 eme Festival de Cannes - Photocall du film One upon

Last week, The Sun published yet another bizarre article about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Sun has been one of the go-to outlets for Team Pitt, or maybe just Team Pitt wannabes. The Sun has carried dubious gossip items about Brad and Charlize Theron, and they’ve been repeatedly wrong about various stories involving the Brangelina divorce. Last week’s story basically amounted to this: Brad Pitt wants the divorce finalized now and Angelina is holding it up because she secretly wants to get back together and so Brad wants the court to start fining her if she doesn’t sign the papers. Keep in mind that they haven’t even worked out the financial stuff yet, so there’s still a ways to go. Gossip Cop had even more to nitpick about The Sun’s story:

For starters, the outlet glaringly omits when Pitt’s supposed deadline is before the alleged cash fines are to come his way. If the publication truly had information about a proposed plan like that, it would mention the timeframe. Additionally, the actress’s camp has repeatedly assured us she wants to have everything resolved as well. In fact, contrary to it taking “another three” years, it was widely reported that Jolie was pushing to finalize the divorce by the end of 2018.

Additionally, the narrative about Jolie dragging out the divorce because she wants Pitt back has been repeatedly disproven. The Oscar-winning actress’ camp has confirmed to Gossip Cop on several occasions that it’s a complete fabrication. In sum, much of what the tabloid asserts is provably untrue. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a Pitt confidante who tells us that, while the actor would like to finalize the outstanding issues in the divorce, he’s not seeking to impose cash fines. And a Jolie insider also guarantees us the article is bogus.

[From Gossip Cop]

While this isn’t the most notable thing about the divorce story, I’d like to point out that ever since Laura Wasser stopped being Angelina’s primary divorce attorney, it’s been like night and day with the drama and the tabloid stories. TMZ practically went dark on the divorce, and there are no longer weekly smears on Jolie. Do I believe that Jolie’s team is really running to Gossip Cop to dispute the handful of sh-tty stories which are published? Eh. But I do think Brad’s team needs to stop pushing this stuff. And they also need to come up with a better story than “Brad SCULPTS because the Villainous broke his brain!”

Art helped Brad Pitt get his groove back. In the wake of his 2016 split from Angelina Jolie, the eligible bachelor turned to sculpting to help heal — and it quickly became a huge passion.

“It’s very therapeutic for him; it’s his go-to outlet,” a source says exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, adding that the actor, 55, spends much of his downtime in the studio. “He can get caught up in it and carried away to the point where he doesn’t want to stop.”

When Pitt does take a break, he “hangs out with his guy friends,” according to the source. He has made “some new pals too,” the source tells Us, in addition to getting even tighter with longtime pal and British sculptor Thomas Houseago, with whom Pitt recently visited Venice, Italy.

“Brad loves to travel with friends and loves seeing the world,” the source tells Us. “He’s grateful that all the animosity is in the past,” the source tells Us of the Oscar winner. “He’s most excited about being a dad and sharing his life with his children.”

[From Us Weekly]

How many times is Brad going to reboot his narrative? I’ve been hopeful that he would actually meet a woman and enjoy a summer romance this year, just to change the narrative around him, and because it would fun to gossip about that for a change. But instead we get fake threats about imposing fines on Angelina, and Sculpture Boi fluff pieces.
