Once upon a time in Hollywood premiere at Cannes Film festival

Ad Astra, the “space movie” produced by and starring Brad Pitt, was originally supposed to come out in May. The release date was pushed back at the last minute, which was probably about Disney buying Fox and changing the release dates of several Fox movies. The silver lining was that no one even bothered to start promoting the film ahead of the original May release date, so no one really looked foolish. Now Ad Astra is being released in September, and I would assume that date means it will likely get a premiere at one of the late-summer film festivals, maybe Venice or Toronto. Anyway, the trailer was just released and I…kind of… think I understand?

Reader, I laughed. I laughed because Liv Tyler is playing his wife/girlfriend and the way he touches the screen with Liv and all I could hear was Aerosmith singing “Don’t want to close my eyes….” This is Armageddon for “grown-ups.” Intellectual Michael Bay, with a recycled Armageddon love interest. Also: Tommy Lee Jones as Brad’s long-lost astronaut dad?? Ruth Negga is in there somewhere too, as is Donald Sutherland.

Meanwhile, Brad wants you to know that he’s totally fine while Angelina is in New Mexico with the kids. She’s filming there and it’s fine:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are continuing to make their busy schedules work for their children. ET has learned that the 55-year-old actor is still spending time with his six kids — Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — even though they’ve been spotted with Jolie in New Mexico while she films her new wilderness thriller, Those Who Wish Me Dead. According to a source, a visitation schedule was actually created specifically for the situation and was put in place well over a month ago.

The source claims the former couple’s kids and Jolie have flown back to L.A. a few times since temporarily settling down in New Mexico, and that when the kids are back in L.A., they see their father. According to the source, Pitt also has tentative plans to fly to New Mexico during the summer months to see the kids for a few days; however, he hasn’t done so yet. The source notes that the actor doesn’t have a crazy work schedule this summer, which will allow him the flexibility to fly out to see his children.

“All is well. The kids are happy, which makes them [Brad and Angelina] happy,” the source says. “There’s no more conflict behind the scenes.”

[From ET]

Us Weekly was even more specific about the schedules and which children he’s spending time with. Hint: the two oldest boys still won’t spend time with him. Us Weekly’s source says: “Brad is enjoying spending more time with the kids and things have been improving with the four younger kids. Brad and Angie have been coparenting, utilizing OurFamilyWizard, which has probably been one of the most beneficial tools for their family in terms of keeping things moving forward in the best amicable terms possible.”

A post shared by Kristin Chenoweth (@kchenoweth) on May 7, 2019 at 3:11pm PDT

Earlier this year, I covered a story on Kristin Chenoweth discussing her migraines, which start with vision changes and then move to nausea and a headache. She said that she’s been able to control them for the most part by cutting back on caffeine and sugar, which doctors told her to avoid. She also has to make sure she gets enough sleep. There’s an added level to Kristin’s medical issue though, as a performer she just can’t take time off whenever she needs to. (Not that many people can, but she has audiences watching her.) In a new interview with People, she described having a migraine during a performance for a show’s financial backers. It was early in her career and she couldn’t bow out at all.

Chenoweth, then 29, was cast in her first Broadway role in the musical Steel Pier. As the cast prepped for the show, they had to do “what we now call the big backer’s audition,” she explains to PEOPLE.

“It’s when all the money people come and decide if they’re going to put money in your show or not — and I have a migraine.”

“I could not get off the floor in the girl’s bathroom at the studio,” she says. “I remember the choreographer, one of the women I look up to the most, Susan Stroman, came in and said, ‘Are you okay?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ She goes, ‘Well you’re going to get okay. You’re going to be okay.’ By the grace of God, I did the two-hour show and the minute it was over, it returned [to the floor].”

“Really and truly, there’s nothing you can do when it comes,” she says. “You can do things to prevent them, but I don’t think we’re there yet as far as what we can do when it’s actually looking at the eye of the storm.”

She continues: “I told my mom many times, ‘If I could just cut my pinky off, I could play the piano, I could play the guitar, but if I could just not have it anymore, I would.’ She said, ‘Yeah, but then there would be something else.’ Everybody has their cross to bear in this life, so there’s that way to look at it too.”

Is she saying she would cut off her pinky if that would keep her from ever having migraines again? That was phrased oddly so it’s hard to tell. I like what her mom said about how we all have our crosses to bear though. That’s a good way to think of it, “if it wasn’t this, it would be something else.”

Someone close to me had a migraine for the first time recently. We googled his symptoms, which started with not being able to see out of the corner of one eye and were followed by nausea and a headache. It seemed just like a migraine and was brought on by exercise. I hope this isn’t a regular thing for him. I think I only had one once and would never want to go through that again. I can’t imagine getting them randomly at key moments like that.

Also Botox is a treatment for migraines.

Dark Phoenix premiere, held at Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre

I didn’t want to say this on Monday, when we discussed the Jennifer Lawrence photos from the polo event over the weekend, but… Jennifer Lawrence has definitely tweaked her face, right? In the polo photos, I thought she just looked very well-rested and slim, like she’d lost some weight in her face. But in these photos of J-Law at last night’s Dark Phoenix premiere, she looks… different. What has she done? Something with her chin, maybe? Her nose? Her eyes? She still looks like J-Law, but just slightly off. Jennifer wore Dior to the premiere and I actually love this dress and I wish she had saved it for a bigger carpet. This would have looked amazing at an awards show. I also wish she had done a different hair look here, but I suspect the hair will be the “excuse” for why she looks different.

Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton. She’s got a Louis Vuitton contract and I hate that she’s obligated to wear this to her big premiere. This dress sucks.

U.S. President Trump's State Visit To UK - Day Two

Donald Trump sat down for an interview with Piers Morgan and Piers slavishly gave him a Winston Churchill-style hat to try on, and that’s how we got this screencap-photo. I would say Trump looks like an unhinged bullfrog, but I actually love frogs and I don’t want to put that Trumpness on them. Let’s just be petty and say that Trump looks like an unhinged nutjob in a hat. As for the interview… I’m sure I could find some video clips somewhere, but I’m not going to post them. Piers Morgan absolutely adores Trump and the whole thing seemed like that disgusting Russian-style propaganda from what little I saw. So I’m depending on the Daily Mail for quotes, and of course Trump called the Duchess of Sussex “nasty” again. I bet Piers Big-O’d in his pantaloons. Some quotes from Trump:

On Churchill: “He was able to handle pressure very well. Hitler was unstoppable at the time – he was going through countries like cheese. He was calling Roosevelt saying: ‘You gotta get in, you gotta get in’. He was a great man who reacted so well under the gun, under pressure. There are not many people like that.”

On the Duchess of Sussex: “She was nasty to me. And that’s OK for her to be nasty, it’s not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn’t. You know what? She’s doing a good job, I hope she enjoys her life… I think she’s very nice.”

On Prince Harry: “He’s a terrific guy. He spent a lot of time talking to Ivanka and talking to my family. I went up – he couldn’t have been nicer. Couldn’t have been nicer… I think he’s great.’

On the Queen: She [Trump’s mother Mary] loved the Royals, she loved the Queen. And I always noticed, whenever anything was on about the Queen she would watch. She was a big fan of this…I told her [The Queen] last night. She was very honoured. But my mother would always… she just had great respect. She understood. My mother understood people very well. She knew people. And she got it right from the beginning. The Queen is a great lady.”

On Prince Charles: “We were going to have a 15-minute chat. And it turned out to be an hour and a half. And he did most of the talking. He is really into climate change, and I think that’s great, I mean I want that, I like that’

On climate change: “I believe there’s a change in weather, and I think it changes both ways. Don’t forget, it used to be called global warming, that wasn’t working, then it was called climate change, now it’s actually called extreme weather’

[From The Daily Mail]

“She was nasty to me. And that’s OK for her to be nasty, it’s not good for me to be nasty to her and I wasn’t.” And then tomorrow he’ll say that he never called her “nasty” anyway. I’d just like to remind everyone yet again that Donald Trump thinks women are “nasty” when they merely correctly identify him as a misogynist. That’s it. That’s all it takes to be labeled as “nasty” by Trump. And he doesn’t think labeling all free-thinking women as “nasty” is misogynistic or sexist or inappropriate. As for Charles lecturing him on climate change… my guess is that it was not 90 minutes. It was probably five minutes, if that.

I wonder sometimes if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge each have a “favorite child.” I mean, obviously, they love all of their children equally, even if George Will Be King (after Charles Will Be King and William Will Be King). I tend to think Kate’s favorite is the youngest, no matter what. Right now Louis is her favorite. And to me, it feels like Louis got the strongest helping of Middleton genes too. Anyway, just a random query, some parents do have a favorite. Kate’s favorite is finally going to undergo that particular rite of passage for royal children too: Louis will participate in his first-ever Trooping the Colour this weekend. Trooping the Color happens on Saturday, and it’s widely believed that the Duchess of Sussex will make her first public appearance since the debut of Baby Archie. Archie will not be there (too little), but Louis will get to wave a chubby baby arm at the planes.

Prince Louis is ready to show off his royal wave! The youngest child of Kate Middleton and Prince William is set to join the royal family — including siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte — on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the first time this Saturday for Trooping the Colour celebrations held in honor of the Queen’s birthday, PEOPLE confirms.

Louis, who turned 1 on April 23, is around the same age as Charlotte was during her first Trooping the Colour appearance. Princess Charlotte, now 4, showed off her royal wave at the 2016 event from the arms of her mom. (The young royal even complemented her mom’s outfit, wearing light pink just like Kate’s hat.) Prince George, 5, was a little older – nearly 2 – when he made his Trooping the Colour debut in 2015. That’s likely because at 10 months, he was too young for the exciting event the previous year.

[From People]

I know this is what is done, and I know that Kate and William are keeping with the same schedule as George and Charlotte. But I do think there’s an added bonus for them: people will be paying attention to the entire Cambridge family, including three photogenic children, and they’ll push Meghan to the back again. Because “protocol,” I’m sure. I expect the Keen Defenders to train a keen eye to Meghan’s positioning on the balcony. If Meghan dares to enter the first row of royals on the balcony, there will be a great hue and cry: “BBBBUUUUTTT KATE WILL BE QUEEEEENNN.” “Doesn’t she know her place?!” And “the Cambridge kids are ‘above’ her!!” Yeah. I mean, I’m excited about seeing Louis on the balcony, but I’m more excited about seeing Meghan. I’ve missed her! It’s been a month since we’ve seen her.

Tan France is the Fashion Expert on Queer Eye. I love his style and quickly adopted his French Tuck and refuse to let it go. Plus he has one of the best heads of hair on the planet. Tan has a new memoir out called, Naturally, Tan, in which he discusses growing up in South Yorkshire, England as a gay, South Asian man raised in a strict Muslim household. The title of the memoir is more than just a playful use of his name because Tan talks a lot about wanting to be lighter skinned as he grew up, even to the extent of stealing his cousin’s bleaching cream.

In his new memoir, “Queer Eye” star Tan France reveals that as a child, he stole bleaching cream from his cousin and tried to lighten his skin.

“The importance of being pale is very bizarre. The people around me certainly didn’t intend to pass on this belief, but I was aware of it and affected by it just the same,” wrote France, who grew up in England as the son of Pakistani immigrants. “When I was five, I remember thinking, ‘God, I’d give anything to be white. I just want to be white, I want to be white, I want to be white.’ I had been so conditioned to think that if you were white, you were automatically more attractive.”

“I haven’t had the balls to tell her I took it, because, since then, I’ve been ashamed of the fact that I succumbed to the pressure,” the Netflix host admitted, adding, “I kept the dirty little secret to myself. I’d only use it at night, before bed, when no one else was going to catch me. Let me tell you, that s–t hurt.”

“I had another dream as a kid, which angers me now,” he wrote. “But I’ve talked to many friends of colour who have told me they shared the same dream, and that is to wake up white. I first had that dream when I was very, very young, because I worried constantly that if I went outside the house, bad things would happen to me.”

“If you ask me what my favourite thing about my appearance is, I’ll say my skin,” he said. “I think my skin colour is beautiful. As a ten-year-old, I could never have imagined that you could find my skin colour beautiful, and I’m willing to bet most nonwhite people have thought the same thing.”

[From Page Six]

I think the fact that he said he is angry about his former views of his skin color is a good way to show how far his views have evolved. Many people come to terms with the fact they can’t change that part of themselves they dislike but that doesn’t always mean they’ve embraced it. Clearly Tan has, and should for all the reasons he cited. I’m glad he mentioned it hurt his skin, I’ve always wondered that, and I think it’s important people know what’s happening to their skin when they use those products. I cannot comment on the fascination with lighter skin because I understand that, as a white woman who grew up in a white community, I have absolutely no concept of all of the layers of complexity that go into it. But fortunately we don’t need people like me to comment because we have people like Tan gracious enough to share their journey.

The book, which I have not yet read, also talks about what it was like to grow up in a strict religious household that viewed homosexuality as a sin. Tan hid his sexuality from his parents until he was 34. His parents also pushed him to be a doctor or lawyer growing up but he’s always loved fashion instead. And nothing against lawyers and doctors, but I think we are all better for his decision to pursue it. Naturally, Tan is being well-received and reviews say Tan’s wit runs throughout it. I’ve enjoyed the few excerpts I’ve read so I’ll probably check it out. I’ll probably opt for the audiobook since I love listening to Tan almost as much as I love watching him.

U.S. President Trump's State Visit To UK - Day Two

It didn’t even occur to me that the Duchess of Cornwall would have nothing to talk about with Donald Trump. You see, Trump doesn’t drink. And Camilla is a total boozehound. It is known. She is greeted with shots of rum or glasses of wine wherever she goes. Much like Kate has to be plied with buttons and coatdresses to do anything, I imagine Camilla will only do events if she’s promised booze. So it was Tuesday evening, when Donald and Melania Trump hosted a dinner at the American embassy in London. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were the guests of honor, and Theresa May was also in attendance. Just look at the pre-dinner festivities:

LMAO, Camilla is the only one with wine! She arrived at the embassy and was like “Can I have a drink, love?” You know she was like, “just give me the bottle of wine, I’m not going to stop with one glass.” She might have even hidden a flask somewhere in her Fiona Clare gown.

Additionally, Camilla got attention on Monday because she seemed to give a cheeky wink to *someone* during another photo-op with the Trumps. This was (I believe) in Buckingham Palace, and Camilla and Charles acted as hosts for a “tea.” Camilla definitely winks, but at who? I suspect she was winking at someone in the press pool, as she’s known to be quite friendly with the regular photographers and reporters. But did the wink mean? I suspect it meant “lord, this day is awful and I just spiked by tea with bourbon.”

Did Camilla wink at cameras as she and Prince Charles welcomed President Trump and the First Lady for a diplomatically-tense afternoon tea?

Donald Trump State Visit

Here are photos from Day 2 of the Trump state visit to the UK. The wheels have not come off, but that’s only because there were no wheels to begin with. Donald Trump spent Tuesday doing political stuff, like meeting with Theresa May at 10 Downing Street, and doing an unhinged press conference full of lies. There were thousands of people on the streets of London protesting too, which led to Trump lying and trying to convince himself that those protesters were actually supporters who love him. Bigly supporters. Here’s a clip, which includes Trump absolutely defaming Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London.

What’s funny is that even as Trump spoke, the Baby Trump Blimp had already launched (again). What’s unclear is whether this was a case of Donald Trump lying to himself and other people because the truth hurt his narcissistic pride too much, or whether his staff lied to him again because they know he’s a giant gassy baby.

In any case, the Idiot Abroad found himself jet-lagged and ragged late last night in England. He tossed and turned and wished he was back in his all-white palace with Midnight Big Macs on demand. So he decided to do what all jetlagged idiots do: hate-tweet Bette Midler.

Washed up psycho @BetteMidler was forced to apologize for a statement she attributed to me that turned out to be totally fabricated by her in order to make “your great president” look really bad. She got caught, just like the Fake News Media gets caught. A sick scammer!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 5, 2019

People did the math and he tweeted this at like 1:30 am in London. That’s how much *checks notes* Bette Midler was bothering him in the middle of an international trip in which he dined with the Queen and took meetings at 10 Downing. BETTE. MIDLER.

Also, this is from early this morning too. The protests have gotten under his skin. Launch another Baby Trump blimp!!

I kept hearing that there would be “massive” rallies against me in the UK, but it was quite the opposite. The big crowds, which the Corrupt Media hates to show, were those that gathered in support of the USA and me. They were big & enthusiastic as opposed to the organized flops!
