The Academy has just announced changes for the Oscars, one of which is relatively minor, two of which are ham-fisted at best, disastrous at worst. The minor change is moving up the broadcast date for 2020 to February 9, which will just make award season a little more hectic as there is less breathin…

Leonardo DiCaprio has breakfast with new girlfriend Camille Morrone in Antibes

First look. #OnceUponATimeInHollywood

A post shared by Leonardo DiCaprio (@leonardodicaprio) on Jun 27, 2018 at 6:00am PDT

Weeks ago, Leonardo DiCaprio posted this first-look image of himself and Brad Pitt “in character” for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the Quentin Tarantino film which is kinda-sorta about the Manson murders. Leo and Brad play fictional characters who were neighbors with Sharon Tate. Leo plays the “movie star” and Brad plays his stunt-man and live-in roommate or something.

The promotional materials indicate that this film will also be about the changing landscape of Hollywood as an industry in 1969, with the rise of independent films and all of that. It’s possible that Leo and Brad are playing two older-guys who are bitching about all of the youths and whatever. So maybe that’s why Sony decided to airbrush the hell out of Leo’s double-chin in the promotional photo?

According to Page Six, Sony “accidentally uploaded an image file of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt posing in ’60s garb for ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ that included all the edits that were made to the original shot. The photo edits revealed marks on the wall had been touched up, wrinkles removed from Pitt’s chin, but most noticeably DiCaprio’s tightened-up chin.” The official line is that Leo and Brad didn’t request any Photoshop Chin Wizardry, which I sort of believe. I mean, Leo and Brad are both vain creatures, but I also think they wouldn’t specifically request this. Leo probably doesn’t even acknowledge that he has a double-chin. No, this was just some Sony promotional person saying, “My goodness, can we do something about Leo’s double chin?!?”

PS… I mean no disrespect to double-chin havers. I have a double chin too, no matter what I weigh. It’s just the way she is. She comes out in every photo too.

The 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards

Kelly Clarkson was successful in music, but not so much on the big screen (remember From Justin to Kelly)? She does have a winning presence on the small screen, as a judge on The Voice, so it might not be a surprise that she’s filming a pilot for a talk show.

Broadcasting & Cable reported that the 36-year-old Grammy winner is following in the footsteps of equally affable crooner Harry Connick Jr. and working on her own talk show. (Side note: Harry’s show was canceled in February after two seasons.) Once the pilot is filmed, it will be shopped around in 2019 for a premiere in the fall. Kelly has a talent deal with NBC Entertainment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll pick it up. If NBC passes, the show could be syndicated or “it could air on another platform or in combination.” In the meantime, Kelly is returning this fall for the 15th season of The Voice, with country singer Thomas Rhett as her adviser.

I like Kelly Clarkson, but I am not a fan of talk shows. If I was going to give any celebrity chat show an hour of my time, it would definitely be RuPaul, but I wish Kelly luck with this new venture. Who is going to give this show a watch?

69th Cannes Film Festival - 'Money Monster' - Premiere

Guess who’s planning on goose-honking her way to another Oscar? Julia Roberts, of course! There’s only one goose-honker. Star Magazine claims that Julia is going to produce and star in a film called Little Bee, which will be a tailor-made vehicle for yet another Julia Roberts Oscar campaign. Keep in mind, she’s already won one time – she won Best Actress for Erin Brockovich, which I never hated. I always liked that movie and Julia’s performance, and I thought her Oscar that year was well-deserved. But this one sounds like a mess:

Julia Roberts wants another Academy Award – and she’s willing to pay for it. Sources say the 50-year-old actress is set to produce and star in a new movie, Little Bee, and will funnel millions of her own dollars into making it an awards contender.

“Julia says that if there was ever a movie that would get her another Oscar, it’s this one,” reveals a Hollywood tipster. The film focuses on a teenage asylum seeker from Nigeria who meets Roberts’ character, a magazine editor, during the oil conflict in the Niger Delta. “She won’t be content with a nomination, she wants a win and she’ll spend whatever she has to in order to make it happen.”

[Star Magazine, print edition]

When I say “this sounds like a mess,” I don’t mean that the story itself is bad. Not at all. I’m just saying that it’s a fine line between The Blind Side versus some messy White Savior Saves African Girl movie, and that fine line involves the number of close-ups on Julia’s face as she cries one dramatic tear for Africa.

As for the idea of one star funding their own Oscar campaign… I don’t hate it, mostly because I’ve gotten used to it over the years. Jennifer Aniston spent a lot of her own money on her massive Oscar campaign for Cake (she didn’t get a nomination). I’m assuming that Leonardo DiCaprio went out-of-pocket for some of The Revenant’s Oscar campaigning too. It happens. And Julia seems like exactly the kind of person who would only spend the money if she was “guaranteed” a win. (Remember four years ago when she lost the Emmy and she even deigned to show up for the Emmys and she couldn’t even contain how pissed off she was? OMG, I just remembered that.)

Caitlyn Jenner and Sofia Hutchins leave a dinner date at Kristy's Malibu

Caitlyn Jenner has retreated from the public spotlight and paparazzi that once followed her every move. In her first lengthy sit-down magazine interview in more than a year, Caitlyn spoke with us about her work as a behind-the-scenes advocate for transgender rights on Capitol Hill, her new opinion of Donald Trump, and her relationship with her family. Read the full interview at the link in bio. (?: Victoria Stevens for Variety)

A post shared by Variety Magazine (@variety) on Aug 7, 2018 at 1:02pm PDT

Caitlyn Jenner is still trying, but I don’t respect her efforts at all. Do you realize it’s been more than three years since her Diane Sawyer interview? Time flies. Caitlyn took part in Variety’s Transgender Issue, all about transgender actors and activists within Hollywood and what they’re doing for the trans community as a whole. Cait wasn’t featured on the cover, but she got a long write-up, and she did her first interview in months. Caitlyn wants you to know that she’s been working on the downlow for trans issues, even if no one believes her. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

She’s no longer everywhere: “I don’t do a lot of media. I don’t want to be seen everywhere. Today, I’m very politically involved. Nobody really knows it. I do it very quietly because I have been so criticized by the liberal side of the media. I can get more things done if I don’t stick my nose into everything publicly.”

Being rejected by the trans community for supporting Republicans like Ted Cruz & Donald Trump: “No matter what you say or do, they think you don’t get it because you’re this kind of white, privileged person,” says Jenner. She disputes the notion that she hasn’t worked hard, or that her wealth disqualifies her from being an advocate. “I haven’t turned my back on anybody,” she says. But Jenner has received a cold shoulder from some of her peers: “I’ve felt it big time, and it hurts. Sometimes this community can be really tough.”

She goes to Washington every month to meet with legislators: “I met with Paul Ryan. I’ve met with just about everybody. Publicly, they aren’t supportive of transgender rights. I’ve never had anybody not be nice to my face.”

She’s disappointed that Trump hasn’t done anything for the trans community: “Get over it! I honestly don’t know what happened when he got in there. It was extraordinarily disappointing. He’s not been doing a very good job, but it’s not over yet.”

She won’t confirm that Sophie Hutchins, a 22-year-old transgender woman, is her girlfriend: Hutchins is at her house on the day of our interview, and she follows us into Jenner’s office to listen to our conversation. Although they sound like a couple — Jenner asks Hutchins for the name of the last great movie they saw together (Hutchins suggests “I, Tonya”) — they deny that they are. “We are not going to get into that,” Jenner says. “But we are very close. We do a lot of things together. We’re kind of inseparable. We’re the best of friends.” Regardless of the nature of their personal relationship, Hutchins is the executive director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, which was formed last year to advance transgender rights.

[From Variety]

Caitlyn truly, truly doesn’t see what’s wrong. She doesn’t understand, she lacks the critical thinking necessary to put two and two together: the transgender community didn’t support her because she was supporting politicians who openly despised transgender people. She literally voted for the politicians who had the longest histories of hateful rhetoric against the trans community, and then Cait was like “OMG why don’t you guys support my choices?”

As for Cait’s relationship with Sophie, a 22-year-old… I mean, by all means, date someone young enough to be your granddaughter. But maybe don’t make her director of your foundation? Yikes.

Crazy Rich Asians is Constance Wu’s first role in a studio film. First! And she’s the leading lady. She is The Star. This is her character’s story. Which means that at last night’s premiere, she was the Julia Roberts of the event. I’m making a point with that comparison. The point is that the hope i…
