'Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer' Madrid Premiere

Richard Gere was with Alejandra Silva for a couple of years before they got married in April of this year. He was still finalizing his divorce from Carey Lowell when he got with Silva, and Silva has been by his side while he has promoted movies and projects for a while now. When they got married in April, sources said they were looking to start a family. Gere, who will soon by 69 years old, already has an 18-year-old son with Carey, and Alejandra has a young son too. But Alejandra is also just 35 years old, and so she wants a baby. And she’s getting one.

Richard Gere is to become a dad again and is expecting his first child with his 35-year-old wife, it has been claimed. The Pretty Woman actor, 68, married Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva in April after four years of dating. Now, respected Spanish daily newspaper ABC is claiming his new wife – who is 33 years his junior – is pregnant with their first child.

The publication added it is not yet known if the baby would be born in Alejandra’s native Spain, or in America, where the couple spend most of their time.

[From The Sun]

As I said, I understand why Alejandra wants another baby, because she’s only 35! And while Richard Gere looks good for his age, the man is close to 70 years old!! I’m sorry, but that upsets me. I know it’s none of my business and everyone has the right to make their own reproductive choices (men and women), but… he is just weeks away from turning 69 years old. I couldn’t do that.

— Carrie Underwood (@carrieunderwood) August 8, 2018

Earlier today Hecate covered the fact that Carrie Underwood said, in a recent interview, that she’s “35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family.” That statement was controversial in that many people interpreted it as Carrie saying that her window of opportunity for having children had passed. However others thought that Carrie was simply saying that she couldn’t have as many children as she’d hoped for. This is also a change for Carrie and her husband as she used to talk openly about the fact that she didn’t want kids but of course that changed for her and she welcomed son Isaiah three years ago.

Well Carrie is pregnant again. She made the announcement in a video about her tour, but it’s not until one and a half minutes into this video. For some reason that feels like an eternity. Her tour is in May of next year, which she explains is to give her time for the new baby. In case you don’t feel like listening to her, she says this at around 1:25 in:

You might be wondering or asking ‘Carrie, why is your tour starting in May?’ Well… [camera pans out to the word “Baby” written in balloons behind her]

Mike and Isaiah and I are absolutely over the moon and excited to be adding another little fish to our pond. This has just been a dream come true with album and baby news and all that stuff. We’re just so excited and so glad that you guys can share in this with us and be a part of this with us. Love you guys and we’ll see you on the road in 2019. Yeah, have a great day. [Tour schedule comes on screen]

Why did she lead with her tour news first, that was weird right? A minute and a half is a long time to get to the point. Open with the baby news and then say you’re going on tour starting in May of 2019. This could have been a weird executive decision, like her people told her it was time to announce her tour and they considered the pregnancy secondary, but that’s short sighted. Also, the caption reads like they hired a sh-tty marketing consultant who wanted to make unique hashtags trend.

Congratulations to Carrie and Mike though and best wishes on the new arrival.

As of this publication, this is Mike Fisher’s last Instagram post, an endorsement of Bill Lee for governor of Tennessee. Bill has said that “We need to do everything possible to stop Tennessee having sanctuary cities, and we’ll do that if I’m governor.” I don’t get how people can call themselves Christian and be so cold-hearted against immigrants and asylum seekers.

Proud to support my buddy @billleetn as he runs for governor. Bill is a great man of faith and as genuine as they come! #faith #family

The second set of “Summer 2018: Justin Bieber crying in public” photos are out. Let’s look at them closely here.

The obvious question is: why is Justin crying outside? I’ve come up with a few theories.

Here are some photos of Ruby Rose at the LA premiere of The Meg a few nights ago. Her dress is Prabal Gurung and… I don’t know, I completely hate this look? I think Ruby has a naturally olive skin tone, and then she’s either tanning or fake-tanning to get this weird shade of brown-orange. And then she tops it off with an orange dress? Gross.

Anyway, I’m not writing about Ruby just to complain about her fashion choices (although WTF). I’m writing to tell you that Ruby got a job! She has been cast as Batwoman in a new CW series.

In one of the biggest casting coups for the CW, Ruby Rose has been tapped to play Batwoman. The character will make her first appearance as part of The CW’s annual DC Arrowverse crossover event in December. Rose also is set to play the role in the Batwoman series the CW has in development for next season. While the project is still in the script stage, with a star of Rose’s caliber attached and DC Universe architect Greg Berlanti behind it, it is likely to go to pilot and series. (I hear the CW is not planning to use the crossover as a backdoor pilot for Batwoman but instead film a full-length pilot as it did with flagship The Flash.)

One of the draws for Orange Is the New Black alumna Rose to return to the small screen likely was the opportunity to break new ground. If the project goes to series, Batwoman will become the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series. Batwoman already has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in comics. After a long hiatus, she was reintroduced to the DC comic universe in 2006 when she was established as a Jewish lesbian, becoming the first-ever lesbian superhero title DC character.

[From Deadline]

That’s really cool. It’s a great day for LGBTQ+ representation for actors in real life and for fictional comic-book characters. My only complaint is a minor one – I’ve seen some people complain that Ruby Rose can’t act her way out of a paper bag? Do you think that will hurt the series? Or will the series be all about action, stunts and lesbian pouts? I might actually watch this! (And I barely watch any TV shows at this point.)

"Spotlight" New York Premiere

New York Magazine’s Vulture section has been getting some great exclusive interviews this year. They talk to the older celebrities, the ones who have few f–ks to give and the ones who know everybody. This is one of those interviews. They chatted with Kathleen Turner, one of the biggest stars of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Body Heat, Romancing the Stone (my personal fave), Prizzi’s Honor, Peggy Sue Got Married and more, those are her most classic films. She’s also done a ton of stage work over the course of her career, although since her late 30s, she hasn’t been able to work as much as she would have liked, because she’s battled severe rheumatoid arthritis, which caused her to self-medicate and have issues (for years) with painkillers and alcohol. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be a downer, because I enjoyed the hell out of Turner’s sh-t-talking. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

Whether she based her performance of Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on Elizabeth Taylor: “God, no. Quite the opposite. For a while I felt like half my life was making her wrongs right….Cat on a Hot Tin Roof — you ever listen to her voice? It’s awful. No. She has a bad voice, badly used. In any case, people are after me all the time to do Sweet Bird of Youth, and I’m like, “Enough Taylor sh-t.” I don’t think she was very skilled.”

What happened right after Body Heat: “It took adjustment. You have to remember that my first big role was Body Heat, and after that I was a sexual target. I understood later, from Michael Douglas, that there was a competition between him and Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty about who would get me first. None of them did, by the by.

A story about Jack Nicholson: “I don’t like being thought of as a trophy. Let me tell you, when Jack and I were shooting Prizzi’s Honor, a bunch of us went to his place up on Mulholland [Drive]. Jack said, knowing Warren’s interest in me, “Why don’t you call Warren and tell him I don’t have a corkscrew.” “Why?” “You’ll see how fast he gets here.” There was an unspoken assumption that women were property to be claimed. Another time I was at a dinner party and there was an empty chair next to Jack. I sat down in it and had a delightful time. After a while — because I was shooting the next day — I said I had to leave and drove back to the Chateau Marmont. I get there and the phone rings. It was Jack: “How could you do that to me?” “Do what?” “You were my date and you left!” And I said, “I was your date? No one informed me.” Assumptions like that are why I’ve never lived in Los Angeles. Every time I go to that city I feel insecure.

A blind item about an actor who plays the same character over and over: “Certainly in terms of film, there is intense pressure to repeat successful characters. I’ll give you an example, but you mustn’t include her name. [Very famous Hollywood actress] has played the same role for 20 years. She even looks pretty much the same. She’s probably one of the richest women out there, but I would shoot myself if I were like that, only giving people what they expect.

On Nick Cage’s terrible voice in Peggy Sue Got Married: “It was tough to not say, “Cut it out.” But it wasn’t my job to say to another actor what he should or shouldn’t do. So I went to [director] Francis [Ford Coppola]. I asked him, “You approved this choice?” It was very touchy. He [Nicolas Cage] was very difficult on set…If anything, it [Cage’s portrayal] only further illustrated my character’s disillusionment with the past. The way I saw it was, yeah, he was that a–hole….Listen, I made it work, honey.

She hates Burt Reynolds too: “Working with Burt Reynolds was terrible. The first day Burt came in he made me cry. He said something about not taking second place to a woman. His behavior was shocking. It never occurred to me that I wasn’t someone’s equal. I left the room sobbing.”

Whether she’s met Donald Trump: “Yes. Yuck. He has this gross handshake. He goes to shake your hand and with his index finger kind of rubs the inside of your wrist. He’s trying to do some kind of seductive intimacy move. You pull your hand away and go yuck.

She hated her guest appearances on Friends too: “I didn’t feel very welcomed by the cast. I remember I was wearing this difficult sequined gown — and my high heels were absolutely killing me. I found it odd that none of the actors thought to offer me a seat. Finally it was one of the older crew members that said, “Get Miss Turner a chair.” The Friends actors were such a clique — but I don’t think my experience with them was unique. I think it was simply that they were such a tight little group that nobody from the outside mattered. I won’t comment on [whether I respected them as actors]. Maybe if I’d had months to work with them, I’d be in a better position to evaluate their skill. But I could only judge based on the period I worked on the show, which wasn’t long. I do respect the camaraderie they had. You can see camaraderie on the screen.”

[From Vulture]

Hecate and I were talking about the Jack Nicholson section and I tend to believe Turner when she says she didn’t bang any of them – I think she had Jack’s number from the get-go, and she knew that Beatty just saw her as another conquest. Even though she and Michael Douglas had some legal drama, she has very positive stuff to say about him now, and I think she feels like he always treated her like an equal. As for Trump’s handshake… EW. Imagine his little baby carrot fingers rubbing your wrist. I felt the bile coming up in my throat. UGH.

As for the blind item…at first I thought it could be Jennifer Aniston, but now I’m wondering if it’s Sandy Bullock?

TraceeEllisRoss

I love Tracee Ellis Ross and am taking this opportunity to talk about her glorious outlook. Tracee is covering Elle Canada’s September issue, with a photo that’s just a close up of her face trying to look off the cuff elated as she’s showing off her manicure. While I get what they were going for she looks like she just woke up with a bad hangover and is shielding herself from the light coming in through the window. You can see the editorial in the Instagram slideshow below. It looks like they were going for eccentric looks that help showcase Tracee’s adventurous style. Inside, Tracee talks about one of her favorite subjects, fashion, and how it can be a topic of conversation and a game changer. I really like how she framed this as she just goes with how her clothing makes her feel.

How would you describe your style?
“I genuinely lean toward what makes my heart sing. It changes every day. Sometimes I’m one person; sometimes I’m another. But I know—I know when a script is for me, when an outfit is for me. When I get dressed, sometimes I say ‘That’s it! Okay, that’s right!’ out loud.”

Is your love of fashion innate? I assume you were mining your mother’s closet from day one?
“Obviously! But, yes, I came out like that. There are pictures of me from before I could talk, naked, wearing Mom’s high heels. When my mother was onstage, I used to hide in the quick-change booth, and after the curtains went down, I would collect the beads that had fallen off the gowns, separate them by colour and put them inside those little cases that film used to come in. I loved it all. In hindsight, I now know that I [grew up watching] a woman in her full power and glory, who utilized her agency. And that’s what clothing, style and fashion represented to me—a uniform for greatness. Your clothing can change your narrative and reframe circumstances, and it can be a visual marker for a larger conversation. That is why it has that meaning in my life.”

Your personal life has been a hot topic lately. “In an interview the other day, someone said, ‘I love how outspoken you are about deciding not to have children and choosing your career instead.’ I said: ‘Hold on. One: Yes, I am outspoken. Two: I have not “chosen” whether I am having kids or not, because it’s none of your business. Three: If I do choose whether or not to have a child or whether or not to have a husband, it has nothing to do with my career. And four: The reason that I’m outspoken is because….’”

Of questions like this! “Yes! I want to shift the language. It drives me nuts. It contributes to this idea that young girls dream of a † wedding and not the lives that they want or how they want to use their talents and what they want from their world. Marriage might be a part of that. But it might not. If I had one life mission—which this isn’t because I have so many others!—it would be to dismantle that myth, that false belief.”

[From Elle Canada]

Tracee has consistently spoken out about the narrative around women, that marriage and children are the only path to happiness and fulfillment. Last month she told Vanity Fair that she’s responded to invasive questions by asking “Why don’t you just get out of my womb? What are you doing in there?” Respect.

In terms of fashion, my mom was always big on costumes and Halloween and she also taught me that clothing was transformative. That could have been partially genetic as Tracee mentioned too, given that I insisted on wearing dresses every day for a year in kindergarten. So Tracee and I have that and fabulous moms in common. I’m really into theme dressing, retro fashion and secondhand clothes. I try not to look ridiculous but I’ve worn leg warmers with pom poms out to dinner. That was my uniform for greatness that cold winter night.

Look at her one giant earring!

Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio back in their car on the set of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

Ever since the news came out yesterday afternoon that Angelina Jolie will be requesting structured child support payments and back-child-support for the past two years, Brad Pitt’s team has been running to every outlet to claim that Angelina is “smearing” him as a deadbeat dad. Nevermind his team’s repeated shenanigans in story after story in which they paint Jolie as as awful, spiteful, hateful bitch. Because, you know, she left him and took the kids away while he was a violent drunk. He went to some kind of hokey rehab and ever since, he’s been Saint Brad Who Just Wants To Be A Dad Again, and Angelina is the Vengeful Bitch Who Took His Kids Away. Think about that. Anyway, Angelina wants a structured child support system and she says Brad hasn’t been paying “meaningful” child support for the past two years. His side says that he’s paid “millions.” So, obviously, Page Six got down and dirty:

After a period of relative peace, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce has become a battleground once again. Jolie filed papers Tuesday claiming that Pitt has not paid “meaningful child support” for their six kids since their split two years ago.

Now Pitt pals are fuming to Page Six that the “Seven” star has in fact been forking over hundreds of thousands a month — and that Jolie is just trying to smear her ex by claiming he’s a “deadbeat dad.” Insiders claim Pitt has paid “millions for therapists” for the enormous brood, as well as their travel expenses and round-the-clock bodyguards.

“The divorce case has been held in front of a private judge to keep it out of the press. But she filed [the papers on Tuesday] in LA Superior Court knowing that it would go public and that he would be made out to be a deadbeat dad — which he isn’t.”

Said another pal, “Brad has completely lived up to his commitments as far as child support and will continue to do so.”

People close to Pitt think that Jolie pre-emptively filed the papers as a warning shot, because Pitt had told her he wanted to restart the formal divorce process. Sources close to the matter told us that the Jolie-Pitt divorce — which had started off with an ugly slew of unfounded allegations against Pitt — had been put on hold and moved to a private judge so that the couple could sort out thorny custody issues. But sources close to Pitt said Jolie has been “extremely difficult” during the negotiations and that he had told her he’d had enough of the endless back-and-forth over the kids.

[From Page Six]

I would enjoy hearing from the lawyer-commenters and family-law experts on this one, because I suspect that the court will not see it Brad’s way. I believe he probably has been paying for the kids’ security and travel and therapy. But none of that is the same as paying child support? The therapy in particular was probably a court-ordered cost completely separate from any loose child support agreement, right? It’s like the Kevin Federline-Britney Spears issue: Britney is paying child support to K-Fed AND she’s paying for school tuition, security, extracurriculars, etc. Brad has only been paying for the other stuff, the therapy and security, but he hasn’t been making child support payments to Angelina. As for all the other stuff about Difficult Jolie… it’s 2018, can we stop using words like “difficult” to describe women please?

This is one of the dumbest of all the Kardashian breakup stories, just FYI. For a while now – maybe a year or a longer – Kourtney Kardashian has been dating Younes Bendjima. She’s 39 and he’s 25 (although he looks younger). There’s always been a vibe of WTFery around their coupledom, like… maybe she just hired some dumb young guy to be her boyfriend? I’m just throwing that out there, to see what people think of it. Anyway, Younes and Kourtney traveled together and vacationed together and at least she got a new storyline beyond “Kourtney is fighting with Scott Disick again.” But because a 25-year-old is gonna do whatever the f–k he wants, he violated his contract (??) and went down to Mexico and enjoyed some time with other ladies. TMZ had the photos. Shortly after the photos came out, the breakup was officially announced.

Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima have called it quits, a source confirms to PEOPLE, adding that “it didn’t end well.”

The news comes as photos of Bendjima getting cozy with another woman in Mexico on Monday surfaced on TMZ. On his Instagram story, Bendjima denied the situation was romantic, writing: “They really want me to be the bad guy. F— your Hollywood bulls—, can’t have fun with your friends no more.”

[From People]

And because this is likely a plotline on a future episode of KUWTK, Khloe and Kim also had to chime in and bully this poor dumb kid:

Kim Kardashian West sent some serious shade in Younes Bendjima‘s direction Tuesday following his split from Kourtney Kardashian. Just hours after photos of Bendjima getting cozy with another woman in Mexico surfaced, it was revealed that the model and Kourtney had split. A source told PEOPLE, “Younes was always supposed to be a rebound. Now with the pictures of Younes in Mexico, they are definitely not getting back together.”

However, Bendjima, 25, didn’t appear perturbed by the news as he shared a photo of himself on vacation with a group of men and women and enjoying lunch on his Instagram Story Tuesday. It seems that snap, combined with the photos of the model looking very cozy with a woman that was not her sister, left Kim, 37, far from impressed. On a screenshot of the photo and other posts by the male model shared on Instagram by the Shade Room, the KKW Beauty mogul commented, “Nice pics from your ‘boys trip.’” Kim also added a Pinnochio emoji, suggesting he was a liar.

Kourtney’s other sister, Khloe, also jumped to Kourtney’s defense after Bendjima’s comments. The star commented on the same screenshot, writing, “Alexa play “heard it all before” by Sunshine Anderson.”

[From People]

These women are in their 30s. They’re all mothers with small children. And they’ll all on social media, “clapping back” at Kourtney’s ex for… what exactly? For “cheating”? For not being the perfect rent-a-date? I don’t know. I also don’t buy all of this sh-t about Younes having a problem with Kourtney’s “revealing” Instagrams. I think this is all just a really dumb storyline for Lazy Kourtney.
