Chelsea Handler is promoting the second season of her Netflix talk show, so she’s giving lots and lots of interviews. As I was reading this entire You Magazine piece, I was reminded of something odd: I don’t always hate Chelsea Handler. Like, I think she says a lot of awful things. I think she’s racist and nativist and unfunny. But when she talks about reproductive rights or being anti-marriage, I often find myself not-hating her in spite of the other emotions she brings out in me. Anyway, of course Chelsea gets asked about Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie in this piece. OF COURSE. And of course she can’t just shrug and say “no comment.” What would be the point of that? Some highlights from You Magazine UK.

She claims that Jennifer Aniston doesn’t care: ‘I don’t think Jen cares about what’s going on and it’s crazy that people think she doe. As if she’s sitting around caring about [Angelina Jolie]. I know I don’t.’

All the sh-t she’s said about Angelina Jolie: As Chelsea explains now, with a smile on her face: ‘I just say what most people are thinking.’

She likes British men: ‘I’m interested in people who have opinions and aren’t afraid to express them. So if someone says: “I don’t want to talk about my husband or my kids” then forget it, because that’s your life. On my [E!] show, I interviewed a lot of reality stars and I’d always drift off, thinking about what I was going to eat later because they were so uninteresting. But I like Brits – I interviewed Tom Hiddleston and he was very sweet and very square.’

On Donald Trump’s politics and policies: ‘I’m going to be leading a lot of marches about this. As a first world country [the US] has an obligation to the rest of the world to be broader in our thinking. I want people from different countries to come over here. I don’t want a refugee camp in Lebanon or Beirut or anywhere in the world – that’s what creates terrorism. Trump is pretty much the worst kind of American there is – the worst capitalist, the worst everything. It scares me but it also makes me motivated because if Hillary Clinton had won the election, maybe we’d have become complacent and said: “OK, we’ve had our glass ceiling moment now – it’s all fine.” But with Trump’s election, people are more outraged than they’ve been in years. We have to make fun of him because he’s so easy to make fun of, but if you can be funny about something, it can resonate more with people than straight information.’

Whether men are scared of funny women: ‘Probably. I mean, men out here are not exactly approaching me all the time. That’s why I go to England – I love British men! My first serious boyfriend [Peter] was British and we were together for two years. British men are better dressed, have a better sense of humour and can drink at lunch and go back to work, which I respect.’

Her relationship with André Balazs: ‘That’s one I’m embarrassed about.’ Why? ‘Because he’s embarrassing. Let’s just leave it at that.’

Dating her boss at E!, Ted Harbert: ‘He just got me and understood the show and we stayed friends because he was kind of a seminal figure in my life.’ Although both insisted that they didn’t start dating until after Chelsea got the show, it didn’t stop Joan Rivers rather uncharitably suggesting that Chelsea ‘made it on her back’. ‘Well, a lot of people say that about me,’ says Chelsea, ‘and it only matters if you believe it’s true. Take a look at my pillow.’ Nestling on her sofa, it reads: ‘Sleep Your Way To The Top.’ ‘My response to that is if I was going to sleep with somebody to get a job, it would have been on a different network than E!.’

She doesn’t want kids: ‘I want to be around adults. I love my friends’ kids; I just don’t want to have my own and I don’t want anyone or anything – other than work – dictating what time I have to get out of bed. Work is my child and my closest relationship. I definitely don’t buy into the idea that you’re less of a woman if you don’t have kids. I actually think it’s brave not to have them and I think people should consider it more before having a child.’

[From You Magazine UK]

I chuckled at “if I was going to sleep with somebody to get a job, it would have been on a different network than E!” Like, did she have so many options? It’s no secret that she slept her way to her own E! show. She was almost completely unknown before Chelsea Lately and of course she slept her way to basic-cable fame. As for what she says about Aniston and Jolie… I still don’t get why this is Handler’s particular raison d’etre at this point, but there you go. I also don’t believe Aniston is focused on Brad and/or Angelina at this point, but the fact that Aniston’s friend, attack dog and surrogate is still talking about it? It’s not a great look for Handler or Aniston.

For a few weeks now, I’ve seen hype-pieces about Kendall Jenner’s new Pepsi commercial. People really wanted the commercial to be something special, like the 2017 version of Cindy Crawford’s iconic Pepsi ad. Well, Kendall’s commercial was released yesterday and… you guys, this is one of the tackiest, most ridiculous pieces of advertising I’ve ever seen. It offends me deeply, I’m not even joking. Here’s the commercial:

Pepsi was like, “Hey, you know how we’re in this incredibly tricky moment involving religious identity, civil rights, Black Lives Matter, women’s rights and inclusionary politics? F–k it, let’s make an ad that glosses over all of those issues with naked commercialism!” Some questions I have:

1. Why do I have the feeling that the pitch meeting for this commercial involved at least one bro saying, “bitches love protest marches”?
2. Why do I get the feeling that everyone involved with conceptualizing this ad is a white dude?
3. Why does Pepsi want to commercialize a sanitized, child-like idea of protest culture?
4. Why was Kendall Jenner cast as the heroic white girl who solves all of the problems in the world by handing a cop a Pepsi?
5. If a non-white person had approached a cop with a Pepsi, what are the chances that the cop would have used deadly force?
6. Why was the Muslim woman cast as “the photographer” and not the model?
7. Why was Kendall wearing a blonde wig and what’s the symbolism of Kendall snatching her own wig?
8. Why don’t the protesters’ signs actually have any meaningful or topical statements?
9. Why did the Muslim woman photographer actually MISS the money shot of Kendall handing the Pepsi to the cop? That was the image she should have been shooting, so Pepsi is making her look incompetent.

Kendall passes an officer a Pepsi can and police brutality is solved, lmao White Media never ceases to amaze me

everyone hates that Kendall Jenner ad but I gotta admit she totally made me want to enjoy a cold Pepsi and fire rubber bullets at protesters

Opening night of '42nd Street' - Arrivals

I’m always a little bit surprised that the Duchess of Cambridge doesn’t wear red more often, because it really suits her. I think she tends to favor blues, greens and greys because she believes those colors bring out her eyes, plus those colors coordinate with her sapphire engagement ring. But red is really flattering on her. These are photos of Kate at the opening of the musical revival 42nd Street, which is just starting in London’s West End. The opening night was a fundraiser for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), for which Kate serves as a royal patron.

For the evening out, Kate went solo – no William! – but she seemed fine with it. She wore a new frock by… Marchesa! Which is just so… bad/obvious. I mean, the dress itself is okay, but I just feel preconditioned to loathe everything from Marchesa, because the dresses usually look so cheap. While Marchesa is considered an American line, it was founded by a Brit: Georgina Chapman, wife of Harvey Weinstein. So Kate probably thought, “Eh, good enough.” This dress is from Marchesa’s Notte Resort 2017 line and the fabric is called “honeycomb.” It retails for $1,195, which seems about what I would expect for this kind of dress from Marchesa.

Some nice stuff: I always think Kate’s clothes are so poorly tailored and I always think Marchesa dresses are so poorly tailored, so it’s fascinating to me that this dress actually looks like it was properly tailored for Kate’s figure. Look, there are no weird bulges, no nonsensical sleeve puffs, no oddly draped tulle. Maybe Kate is actually the perfect Marchesa model. I also appreciate the skirt length here – this is a full-skirted tea-length and while the skirt seems a bit stiff, the effect is very “1950s Society Gal Goes To Broadway!” Which fits with the event. Such a theme-dresser, our Kate.

German premiere of the movie 'Fast & Furious 8 (The Fate of the Furious)'

It’s that time of year… the time when a new Fast & Furious movie is coming out and we’re about to be gifted with another promotional tour. How many times have we done this? This is the eighth movie, right? Right. The eighth movie is called… The Fate of the Furious. But don’t be fooled into thinking that this will absolutely answer all of your Fast & Furious questions. It will not, because I’m pretty sure Furious 9 and Furious 10 will be shot soon enough. Still, The Fate of the Furious is special, because they brought some very special ladies into the franchise. Dame Helen Mirren took a small part, because she’s a huge fan of the franchise. And Charlize Theron is playing “the villain” this time, I think.

So these are photos of Charlize and Vin Diesel at the Berlin premiere of Fate/Furious. Charlize is the reason why I’m looking forward to this promotional tour. Usually, the photos are mostly useless because there isn’t any interesting fashion. But Charlize will deliver… good or bad, she’ll deliver. And I kind of think this Dior look is bad? She’s the face of J’Adore (the fragrance) and she usually gets some interesting Dior looks. This is one awkward dress though. The problem is absolutely the cut and the fit in the bust. Yikes.

Would you like to see the trailer for The Fate of the Furious? Here you go. Charlize stars as Icy Bitch Realness.

Speaking of Icy Bitch Realness/Charlize Theron, we didn’t talk about the Atomic Blonde trailer. NSFW for language, violence and some sexy stuff. Enjoy.

52nd Academy of Country Music Awards Arrivals

Of all of the women currently on top of the country music charts, it seems Miranda Lambert’s been really living a country song – and not one of the happy ones. She went through a tough, emotional divorce from her husband of four years, Blake Shelton, in 2015. The 33-year-old singer strikes me as someone who definitely wears her heart on her sleeve, getting emotional and crying on stage during a performance back in August of last year. So, then, it’s probably no surprise that she turns to the bottle at times for a little “self-medication.” She DID have a recent hit song called “Vice” you know.

Miranda recently told Sounds Like Nashville that her assistant keeps a little “medicine” around for her, stating “My assistant packs — I call it my nanny bag — she packs a bag of liquor for emergencies, for meltdowns and things like that.” One very recent “emergency” came up on Thursday, when Miranda’s flight to Las Vegas for the ACM Awards ceremony was cancelled, forcing Miranda and her crew to rent a van and road trip it to Sin City. Miranda handled it like a champ, telling SoN, “I’m like okay, we’re good, I’m golden. We just need a cooler of ice and we’re going. It was fun.” She posted a pic of her makeshift bar on Instagram with a caption that read, in part, “Y’all…. @ACMawards 75 or bust! Storms diverted our plane to Laughlin Nevada. So… Rent a car set up the bar!! Vegas here we come.”

A post shared by Miranda Lambert (@mirandalambert) on Mar 30, 2017 at 7:44pm PDT

Miranda is no stranger to the bottle, confessing that her song “Ugly Lights” was written because of her reliance on booze. When introducing the song at a concert in January, she told the audience, “I got divorced so I started drinking a little extra. I found myself in Midtown in Nashville three nights in a row at like last call and with the lights coming on, and I’d be sitting there. So I wrote a song about it.”

“Ugly Lights” is just one of the songs that Miranda wrote for her latest double album, The Weight of These Wings, to help her cope with the split. In an Instagram post from December, she shared her thoughts about using the album as her statement on the divorce, explaining, “I feel really strongly about the only talking I needed to do, I’ve done and it’s on tape. All the parts of me, the parts of the pain I went through, everything that happens to a person in their life — especially in the last couple years for me — is on this record.”

The record not only serves as a source of catharsis for Miranda, it also helped her rack up some awards at Sunday night’s ACM Awards. Miranda was up for five awards and won two. The Weight of These Wings took Album of the Year honors and Miranda won her record eighth Female Vocalist of the Year Award – the most won by any female artist in the awards’ history. Upon winning Album of the Year, Miranda thanked her fans in a short but sweet acceptance speech “for letting me use my heartbreak and sharing it with me.”

— ACM Awards (@ACMawards) April 3, 2017

Later, in the press room, Miranda added,

I’m so thankful because I really used my stories and it’s basically like my diary won album of the year. To me, country music is about truth, about what’s really going on, whether it’s happy or sad or somewhere in the middle. For me in the past couple of years, it’s been more sad than happy, but it’s moving to another direction. I’m really glad people can relate to an emotion like that.

[From People Magazine]

I am hardly the one to say anything about how one deals with sadness and stress, but, to quote Homer Simpson, alcohol is “the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.” I get that Miranda has that hard living, country singer persona, but maybe she can deal with things in a healthier way. She looks really happy with her beau Anderson East – I have to agree with Kaiser that her ACM red carpet look was gorgeous. You’ve got a lot going for you girl, ease up on the hooch and you could be even happier. Geez, I sounded like my mom just then.

This story is a little bizarre to me, mostly because of what is not being said. For a little background, in 1998, Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts made the movie Stepmom, in which Julia played a woman married to Susan’s ex-husband, played by Ed Harris *moment of gratuitous sighing to express Ed Harris devotion*. Without getting too involved in retelling the story, the two ladies were not besties for most of the film. Outside of the actual movie, there were stories for years that Susan and Julia did not get along. They were both quoted in Entertainment Weekly at the time calling it ridiculous to presume that two lead actress can’t get along. Julia famously said, “Actually, Susan and I were kinda hoping that people would say we were f—ing. Now that’s delicious cocktail-party fodder. But this? Boring.”

Cut to modern day when Susan is appearing in Ryan Murphy’s Feud, where she plays Bette Davis feuding with Jessica Lange’s Joan Crawford on the set of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. On Sunday, Susan was live tweeting during the show and she posted this:

The #1 question I get in interviews is whether Jessica & I get along. Jess & I not only got along great during filming, we’re now dating

— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) April 3, 2017

…I mean, staying in touch. She’s one of the reasons I agreed to do the series. Working with brilliant actors only makes you better. #FeudFX https://t.co/dTcqYhbthU

— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) April 3, 2017

I don’t think this is shocking – the fact that women are often reduced to petty, jealous harridans or the fact that Susan ripped off Julia’s punchline. Still, people are grossly fascinated by the idea of women fighting so I don’t ever mind someone talking about it. A few tweets later, Susan dropped this bombshell:

Press printed that Julia & I hated each other during Stepmom. Found out it was my PR person creating rumors. #FeudFXhttps://t.co/kBfJXz3pOo

— Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon) April 3, 2017

I feel like there is much more that can be said here. I get they were on the topic of how these feud rumors are perpetuated, but can we assume this is her “former” PR person or does she still employ this person? And when did she find this out? Has she been sitting on this information? Or did she, completely coincidentally, learn of this scandalous bit of gossip when her show about the same topic was broadcasting?

I suppose I could be fair and say that perhaps Susan did know this information for a while but didn’t think anyone would be interested in it and remembered it during the topic’s discussion Sunday. I could do that but I don’t wants to give her too much credit.

I believe that Susan and Julia didn’t fight because if they did they would likely admit it. Those two aren’t exactly people-pleasing, shrinking violets. It is sad, though, that Susan’s PR went (presumably) behind her back to generate press for her movie by feeding into this stagnant stereotype of women not able to peacefully co-exist. The story is making the rounds so I’m sure Susan will elaborate further on it. I imagine these days she would like to talk about anything other than her opinions about the last election.

Celebrity trainer Bob Harper, 51, had a heart attack earlier this year, you probably heard. It was scary to realize that heart disease can affect anyone, particularly a fit, vital guy like Bob. You know who else just had a heart attack? Antonio Banderas, 56, had one in January although he claims it was mild and that he’s recovered. He’s only telling us about it now and I think he’s downplaying it, but I do hope he’s ok. Unlike Antonio, Bob’s heart attack was serious. He did an interview with the Today Show in which he explained what happened when he had a heart attack at the gym. He went into full cardiac arrest and actually died, but luckily there were two doctors there who immediately performed CPR and used a defibrillator on me. Bob has been doing cardiac rehab and is feeling much better now. He said he’s been following his doctors’ orders.

On the day of his heart attack
I had what they call a ‘widow-maker.’ It was a 6 percent survival rate, and the fact that there were doctors in the gym when I had the heart attack saved my life.

I don’t remember that day at all. I went to the gym like I always do. It was Sunday morning I was working out with some friends of mine. At the end of the workout I went down to the ground. If you’ve ever done Crossfit, you know that people go to the ground. About a minute later the coach went into full damage control. There was an event going on at the gym and [they] found two doctors there. I was so lucky.

They started performing CPR on me. They pulled out the AEDs (defibrillator) and used that on me twice before the paramedics got there. They jolted me one more time.

I was in full cardiac arrest, my heart stopped. Not to be dramatic but I was on that ground dead.

What happened when he woke up a few days later after being in a coma
It was super scary for me. I woke up and I was so confused. I was like Dory from finding Nemo. I had this short term memory. I was like ‘wait, why am I here?’ Ten minutes later I was asking the same thing. My friends were so great. It was so sad but kind of funny too.

On having a heart attack at 51 despite how fit he is
It is so important to know your health. There were things going on inside my body that I needed to be more aware of. Go to the doctor, get your cholesterol checked, see what’s going on on the inside.

On if he pushed himself too hard
Before the heart attack I was having like dizzy spells and I thought, maybe I should’ve really taken that more seriously. It’s been a huge wake-up call for me.

[From Today.com]

Bob said he’s been feeling depressed and facing his own mortality but that it’s also taught him what’s important in life. He’s no longer worrying about the small things and is more focused on his friends, family and his dog. Bob got a little choked up during that part.

This was such a nice interview and I came away from it with so much respect and admiration for Bob. He went through so much and it’s so good to hear he’s on the other side of it now. Incidentally, the signs of a heart attack can be much different for women. Here’s more about the signs of a heart attack in general.

Here’s Bob’s interview on The Today Show.

I’m a fan! I’m going to try this guy’s workouts now.

So today was my first day doing my #cardiacrehab which involved 15 min on this bike, 15 min of treadmill and 15min of the ergometer. I felt good and the doctors were happy with all of my readings. It just felt good to get a little bit of a sweat. I love all the support that I’ve been getting. You have no idea how helpful it is. Thank you. #heartattacksurvivor
