I read a lot of fiction novels, and lately I’ve noticed a pattern: dead husbands. Men who are brought down (physically, or socially and financially) by an underestimated woman. This isn’t new, of course. Some of the biggest books of the decade have centered around a woman who gains power – sometimes…

Personally, I’m not here for a movie about the 2016-17 behind-the-scenes drama of Fox News. That was when Gretchen Carlson sued the network, saying that Fox News’ then-honcho Roger Ailes had sexually harassed her and then ruined her career. Carlson’s lawsuit set off a chain reaction which led to the Murdochs bringing in an independent team of lawyers and investigators, multiple women coming forward to speak about the harassment bro-culture of Fox, the outing of Bill O’Reilly as a predator, the ousting of O’Reilly, and the ousting of Roger Ailes. It was good real-life drama, for sure. But do we need a movie about it? Eh. But as it turns out, the movie might just be about… the women. Or should I say, the blondes.

Annapurna has tapped another A-list actress for its untitled movie about the women of Fox News. Margot Robbie is in talks to join Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman in the project that centers on the women who took on the toxic male culture of the news network and its late chief Roger Ailes. Theron will take on the role of former host Megyn Kelly, while Kidman will portray Gretchen Carlson. Robbie will play an associate producer at the news network.

Ailes ran Fox News and helped launch the careers of Kelly, Carlson and Sean Hannity with his powerful channel. He also was a prominent figure in Republican circles that helped elect presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Ailes was forced to resign in 2016 when a host of accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced, with Carlson’s and Kelly’s the most high-profile, and which contributed to his exit from the network.

The untitled project is described as an ensemble pic, with Ailes and others who were involved at Fox News during his reign said to be major players in the piece. Characters included are likely to be Carlson, former anchor Greta Van Susteren, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and fired host Bill O’Reilly.

The more I think about it, the more I know in my heart that Charlize will do great work as Megyn Kelly. I even think Nicole Kidman will do amazing work as Carlson too. But again, do we need this movie? It’s so script-dependent, and how the story is being framed. Is this a by-the-books style film about what happened, or is it about the women specifically? Also: of course the actresses are all blonde women. What’s the name of this film? BLONDE WIGS: A Fox News Story.

While we all wait for her to make us cry again when This is Us returns to our TV screens, Mandy Moore makes us smile, discussing her engagement to Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith.

Even though the 34-year-old actress and singer strikes most of us as a traditional kind of woman, she wasn’t necessarily keen on sporting an engagement ring. Taylor, however, did spring for a ring, a lovely custom-made creation by Irene Neuwirth with a rose gold band and a round, flat diamond that Mandy showed off at a pre-Emmy party last year. As Mandy recalled in an interview with PEOPLE,

“My fiancé kind of ignored [me when I told him], ‘Oh it’s fine. I don’t really need anything. We can just get married and have wedding bands. I don’t need an engagement ring.’”

“He kindly ignored me and went out and made this gorgeous ring that I just felt was indicative of my style and it’s all very much in mind with who I am and how I try to carry myself in the world. It wasn’t like this ostentatious giant jewelry, it’s something that has a lot of meaning and I love it.”

“I would say my most meaningful piece [of jewelry] is my engagement ring. That’s something that I try to wear every day. I don’t wear it to work or anything, obviously, but it’s something I never really thought that I would want.”

I can totally understand where Mandy’s coming from. This is her second marriage, and, as someone who has walked down the aisle twice already, I wouldn’t really have cared if my second husband got me a ring. I also didn’t want a big ceremony and reception either, but it was his first wedding, so we did it up. This is Taylor’s first trip down the aisle (and hopefully his only one), so I think he also wants to have the whole wedding experience. And, to his credit, it is a lovely ring.

Mandy has a new gig as a celebrity ambassador for Fossil watches. Despite advocating wrist bling, Mandy admits that she keeps her own personal accessorizing limited, telling the magazine, “It’s funny because I obviously love jewelry, and I have a job that lets me wear a lot it, but in my down time, I wear a little bit.” She’ll be wearing a bit more bling sometime soon, when she becomes Mrs. Goldsmith.

In other adorable Mandy news, she appeared as a guest on The Late Late Show on Monday night, where host James Corden showed a throwback pic of Mandy in her cheerleading days and asked her about the experience. Mandy revealed, “I loved cheerleading. I was not the most physically adept cheerleader, but I was very vocal. I was passionate and I was loud.” She eventually gave up cheering for singing, but was still able to remember one of her old cheers, which she gamely demonstrated for the audience and fellow guest Jenna Dewan, who also was a cheerleader back in the day. She is just so cute.

Hoda Kotb Reveals ‘I Understand Why I’m On Earth’ Since Becoming a Mother

Hoda Kotb, 54, had it all, a rising career on the Today show, her loving longtime partner Joel Schiffman, and a network of loving and supportive friends. But something was still missing for the co-anchor and it kept gnawing at Kotb, she wanted so dearly to be a mother.

Already into her 50’s, she felt that window of opportunity had closed for her. Thanks to actress Sandra Bullock for inspiration, Hoda dove into the adoption process and in doing so she welcomed her daughter Hailey in 2017 who is now 17-months old.

“I was at a point where things were not in my favor,” she recalls. “Every time I had a pang like, ‘I wish I could,’ I pushed it away. I felt if she could do it, it could be done, she says of Bullock.” All of a sudden, I thought, ‘Why not me?’” confesses the host of NBC’s Today. “I wanted it to go from a dream, a wish, a prayer to a reality.”

Hoda now has inspired people from all over who thought their hopes of having a family was no longer an option. She admits she is moved to tears when others like her approach her on the street and thank her for being a vision for a dream they had given up on. “One of the best things is when people come up and say, “I’m adopting. I thought it was too late for me, too.” I’m moved to tears. I’ve made so many choices but none was more important or monumental. It’s the best one and I just saved it for later in my life.”

It wasn’t until Hoda Kotb became a mother that she realized her true calling in life. Always work driven, she found her purpose in life through her work but that all has changed for the mother since adopting Hailey. “My whole life, my career has been riding shotgun with me. But now, with Haley, it feels like, for the first time, I can see clearly. I understand my purpose. I understand why I’m on this earth. All of a sudden, the most exciting part of the day is after work when I’m holding her. Not when I’m interviewing someone, even if it’s Beyoncé!

Hoda admits being an older parent comes with different concerns than a younger parent may have and one of them is her concern that Hailey won’t be alone when she gets older.

She goes on to reveal that adopting a second time around isn’t off the table. “Never say never. I don’t want Haley to ever be by herself. When you’re an older parent, you think about those things more than you would if you were in your 20s. I always say, if it’s meant to be, it’ll just happen. I’ll just put it out in the universe and see what happens.”

This is just a quick one – Ivanka Trump did a “conversation” with Axios Newsmakers today, and it aired on CSPAN. She was asked about a number of things, like whether she believes the press is an enemy of the American people, which is what her father claims. Ivanka apparently laughed and said “No, I do not” think that the press is the enemy. When asked about the “low point” of her time in the White House, this is what Ivanka said:

With many children have yet to be unified with their parents, Ivanka Trump broke her silence on family separations at the US-Mexico border, saying Thursday that the news “was a low point” during her time in the White House.

“That was a low point for me as well. I felt very strongly about that and I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children so I would agree with that sentiment. Immigration is incredibly complex as a topic. Illegal immigration is incredibly complicated.”

“I am the daughter of an immigrant, my mother grew up in communist Czech Republic, but we are a country of laws. She came to this country legally and we have to be very careful about incentivizing behavior that puts children at risk of being trafficked, at risk of entering this country with coyotes or making an incredibly dangerous journey alone. These are not easy issues, these are incredibly difficult issues and like the rest of the country, I experienced them actually in a very emotional way.”

She’s senior advisor to the president, her father. She could have done something. She didn’t. Instead, she posted happy-family images of her children while the country was freaking out about the children being caged and drugged and traumatized by the state. She’s an awful person who shrugs about sh-t that she could actually change. And then she talks about being “a nation of laws” like that means it’s totally okay to traumatize and abuse children because their parents committed a MISDEMEANOR. Just wait until her children are taken away from her when she’s thrown in jail.

The Duchess of Sussex turns 37 years old on August 4th, this coming Saturday. This will be her first birthday as a duchess, although I’m reminded of the fact that Prince Harry took Meghan on holiday this time last year, and I’ve always believed he proposed to her during that vacation. As in, I still think the story of his proposal at Nottingham Cottage was nothing but a lie. But whatever. Anyway, Meghan’s birthday. Did you know that Meghan has the same birthday as the late Queen Mum?

Meghan Markle‘s 37th birthday on August 4 is a big day for the royal family. Not only does it mark Meghan’s first official birthday as the Duchess of Sussex, it’s also the birthday of another important royal: the late Queen Mum, Queen Elizabeth‘s beloved mother.

The Queen Mum, born Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon on August 4, 1900, was an important member of the royal family. One of nine children, she was intelligent and well-educated, and spoke French fluently by age 10 after receiving home-schooling lessons, according to the royal family’s official website. She met her husband, then Prince Albert, in her late teens and they married in 1923. The couple’s first daughter, Princess Elizabeth was born in 1926, and their second, Princess Margaret, in 1930.

Yes, People Magazine did this huge spread on why Meghan’s birthday is special to the Queen because Meg shares the same birthday as Queen Elizabeth II’s dearly departed mother. Do you think QEII has even made that association? I doubt it. That being said, People Magazine had another story about how Meghan and Harry will totally go to Balmoral this summer to spend some time with the Queen.

Royals on holiday! With Queen Elizabeth settling into her long vacation at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, travel plans for other members of the Windsor clan are coming together. For their first summer together as husband and wife, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have much of the coming weeks to themselves (following the wedding of Harry’s good friend Charlie van Straubenzee this weekend!).

The newlyweds will likely head to Scotland to join the Queen for a few days, as is customary for royal family members during the summer holiday. The Queen, 92, expects everyone to join in the festivities at some point before she heads back to London in early October.

It will be Meghan’s first visit to the estate since her wedding, and she will be expected to immerse herself in everything from outdoor picnics and barbecues to joining her husband hunting or stalking deer (an activity the animal-loving former actress may decline!). In Scotland, the rhythm of daily life is very different. Long walks in the heather amid the nibbling midges are also likely to be on the vacation to-do list, while inside the castle there are traditional parties and dances.

There will be lots of outdoor fun, but Meghan won’t have to get her hands too dirty. At the loch-side barbecues, all the food and equipment is laid out by footmen who then are required to exit the scene so that a member of the family can take over as if they had done all the preparations (in the past it was always Prince Philip), according to Brian Hoey’s At Home With the Queen. At family picnics, the same footmen lay the tables and arrange the food, cutlery and china and then “move to a discreet distance where they can keep an eye on things and be within calling range if needed….The Queen pours the tea but that is the extent of her culinary efforts.”

I remember reading People Magazine back in the day, and finding out that Diana absolutely loathed being in Balmoral for the annual royal-summer holiday. Charles would make Diana and the boys spend, like, two months at Balmoral every year. Notice that William and Harry don’t spend that kind of time in Scotland now that they have a choice. William and Kate have barely spent any time at Balmoral during their marriage – in fact, the last time they went, I seem to remember that the Queen had to bribe them in some way. My guess is that Harry and Meghan won’t need to be bribed, but that they’ll only stay at Balmoral for a week, tops.

Really just put Tiffany Haddish in All The Things, but when Vogue asked her “what’s a role you’d love to take on” as part of their “73 Questions” series, Haddish responded, “Wonder Woman’s sister”. Wonder Woman does have a black twin sister, Nubia, so this is ENTIRELY possible and 100% should happen…

Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnston have been in New York this week. Sidenote: I honestly had to stop for a moment and try to remember Eric’s name, and I was going to just call him Blargh McBlandFace but then his real name came to me. Every couple of months, Jessica seems to pop up in New York, and I would imagine that it has something to do with her fashion line, but what do I know. What happens is that we get daily pap strolls and “date night” photos with some regularity. These are just some photos from this week’s pap strolls and date nights.

Can I just say? I hate all of these outfits except for the jeans-ensemble one. I would wear that entire jean-ensemble except for the jacket. I would leave the jacket at home and keep everything else. I actually love those jeans, which I know makes me sound so dated and unfashionable, but I’m still here for g–damn bootcuts and straight-legs. The skinny-jeans and the tapered jeans need to STAHP. The leopard print dress is… too low-cut, or maybe Jessica’s girls just can’t be contained. The yarn-like extensions need to go too.

Some say Jessica is a mess. I say Jess is living her best life. She’s got a “kept husband” who adores her and is a hands-on dad to their kids. They go on date nights all the time. Jess eats whatever she wants and drinks however much she wants. Maybe I’m actually sort of jelly of Jessica Simpson, who would have thought.
