Here are some photos of Emma Stone at last night’s AFI Fest premiere of La La Land, the film which MAY earn Emma a Best Actress Oscar. Unlike her Oscar nomination for Birdman (a film which I hated), Emma really wants this one. You can feel it. She started campaigning for it early, back in the late summer film festivals. She’s been very available to press outlets and she’s been playing the game really well. I expect her to ramp up her campaign in the next month, get a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy, win the Globe and then march ceaselessly towards the Oscars.

For this AFI Fest premiere, Emma’s look was not on fleek. She wore an Armani Prive dress which… I would have been okay with it, begrudgingly okay with it, had the styling been stellar. The styling is the worst though. First of all, I’ll never understand Emma’s undying affection for awkward peplums. Chica LOVES an awkward peplum, the more unnecessary, the better. But the real style-nope of this look is her hair. Did she just get out of the shower? This is how my hair looks after a shower.

Meanwhile, Emma was asked about Donald Trump’s election victory recently and Emma – a Hillary Clinton supporter – said Trump’s win was “incredibly painful.” But she’s trying to stay positive, saying: “I think it’s a real wake-up call and chance for us to all unite and do the very, very best we can to speak out and be brave.”

Are we past the point of rolling our eyes at pop stars who also want to be actors? Or is our eye-rolling strictly reserved for Justin Timberlake? New photos of Rihanna in character on set of Bates Motel in Vancouver were released yesterday and while I didn’t roll my eyes at them, I did wonder if …

kelly-osbourne_0

Kelly Osbourne wrote a book. Apparently it’s a compilation of letters that she has written to everything from her family to her vagina. I cannot quite find the words strong enough to tell you how much I don’t want to read what Kelly has to say to her genitalia. The book is called There Is No F*cking Secret: Letters from a Bad-ss B-tch. The ‘secret’ reference is to the book The Secret, btw, because apparently everything pisses Kelly off. The book won’t be out until April 2017 but she’s already doing press because it provides another perfect opportunity for her to play the victim. To remind everyone, when Donald Trump began spewing his immigrant hate speak, Kelly appeared on The View and in condemning Trump’s comments, did so by asking, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump? In the sense that…you know what I mean? But I’m saying that in L.A., they always…” The View co-host Rosie Perez stopped her by interjecting, “Latinos are not only the only people doing that.” Rosie even apologized to Kelly later in the show for being “sensitive.” What followed was Kelly’s inane attempts at trying to prove she wasn’t a racist and that we, the viewing public, were just horrible people who wouldn’t give her a chance. Well, guess what, folks – it still bugs Kelly that we think she’s racist. Here are some highlights from her interview with Entertainment Weekly. The rest is here.

On why she choose to write in letters: I was inspired by Dawn French’s book [Dear Fatty], where she wrote letters. The format helped me keep it concise without rambling, and I could change from topic to topic to topic, and it allowed the book to have a fluidity. But it’s also because at times in my life, writing letters was the only way I could communicate with my family and my loved ones. And that was either because maybe I was in a wonderful institution for my restoration, or if I just was on tour because I thought it was more fun to send a letter than an email, because I am still a child of the analog world. When I can’t say what I want to say, I write a letter. That way you say it, but you don’t send it.

On what she learned writing the book: One of the biggest realizations I had was no matter what I put in black and white, no matter what I say to you, people are going to have their own opinion no matter what. And I let other people dictate my emotions so much growing up that I didn’t realize until after I wrote this book that I don’t do that anymore—and that was a really great feeling.

But the again, the other chapter that was really hard to write, but for a completely different reason, was the letter to my vagina, because I knew my parents would be reading it at some point.

On how she isn’t racist: It says “Dear Racists.” It’s about the topic. I’m a little bit scared about what people are going to say. And I do address the whole View issue, and how that has affected my life forever. I still hate myself for it, because if it was me, watching someone else say it on television, I’d hate them. But the fact is, I got cut off. No matter what I was going to say, people are not going to believe it anyway. I know my true intentions behind it, but like I say in my book, the mistake I made was to fall back on witty sarcasm, and you can’t do that when you’re talking about race, especially in this country. In my way of trying to defend a community of people that I do truly love, I managed to insult an entire race of people in this country. The fact that if you type in “Kelly Osbourne” [into Google], the first thing that comes up is “racist” just kills me.

[From Entertainment Weekly]

Kelly is still throwing Rosie under the bus for cutting her off. Let’s try to walk with Kelly’s argument here. She said, “No matter what I was going to say, people are not going to believe it anyway.” What could she have possibly said following, “who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump,” that would have made that joke okay? Nothing. Kelly doesn’t get to rail on Giuliana Rancic and then argue she should be forgiven. If she doesn’t like seeing racist after her name in Google she has some choices. She can: 1) not Google herself and 2) Make some effort to own what she said and evolve her mindset.

Kelly ends the interview by saying, “So I know I’m gonna manage to offend someone along the way in this. And some people I intentionally want to offend because they offended me!” An eye for an eye only will make the whole world blind.

Earlier this week, there was some breaking Insta-model news: Kendall Jenner, one of the most famous of the Insta-models, had deleted or deactivated her Instagram account. “Insta-model” means “a model who curated her fame and career on social media platforms like Instagram,” so this was a pretty big deal for Kendall. Kendall had tens of millions of followers, and for the better part of a year, she had the most-liked Instagram ever (the hair-heart IG, above). So what happened? Was it an accident? Was it a conscious move away from social media? Hm…

It’s hard to keep up with Kendall Jenner these days. The 21-year-old reality star and model recently quit Instagram — and she revealed why during a Wednesday, November 16, appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that. Like, I have no idea how that [happened],” Jenner told Ellen DeGeneres of the buzz surrounding her absence from social media. “I mean, like, I guess I didn’t expect it. I also took my Twitter off my phone. Like, I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely, but I took the app off my phone, so I had no idea anyone was even talking about it. I honestly didn’t even think anyone would care. My friends kept texting me and my family members and I was like, ‘How does everyone know?’ And they kept sending me links to, like, CNN and all these things and I was like, ‘Why is this even that big of a deal?’” she recounted. “It’s so crazy.”

“I just wanted to detox. I felt like I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it … I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at,” Jenner told DeGeneres, 58. “I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kinda wanted to take a minute to detox.”

However, the social media maven assured the talk show host that she will eventually return to the app. “I’ll be back. I’ll come back. It’s been two days!” she said with a laugh. “Withdrawals are starting to occur.”

[From Us Weekly]

Since I don’t have the Twitter app (although I am on Twitter), I don’t know if it works that way, but sure. I’ll believe that Kendall was making an effort to disconnect in general and sh-t just got deleted. Believe it or not, I kind of liked Kendall’s IG. She wasn’t posting endless selfies, and a lot of her photos were work-related. I wonder if this will become more of a thing as these Instamodels get older – will more of them disconnect from social media and want to be seen as more “legitimate” models? Hm.

Also: I do think that a lot of people are disconnecting from social media in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory. Who wants to fight with the Deplorables online at this point?

Gisele Bundchen really got through to Tom Brady last week (God, I can’t believe it’s only been a week). After Donald Trump claimed, in the last days of his campaign, that Brady had endorsed him and was going to vote for him, Brady came out and said his wife told him not to say one more word about politics ever again. Brady spoke to a radio show this week and he’s actually sticking to it – he refused to say anything about who he voted for or anything like that. Now, maybe Tom should convince Gisele to stop talking about food and diets? Please? Gisele chatted with People Magazine ahead of the airing of her episode of NatGeo’s Years of Living Dangerously, and she ended up detailing her daily diet, and her kids’ diets.

All of the kids are very active: “Our oldest (Jack), is obsessed with soccer. Benny loves hockey, and the little one, she’s just only 3-and-a-half, so she’s into anything. She actually does yoga! And just running around.”

Her breakfast: Bündchen, 36, begins each day with lukewarm water and lemon, which she follows with a homemade green juice made with “whatever I have in the fridge,” including spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, ginger, turmeric, and an apple, “to make it sweeter.”

What the kids eat: When it comes to the kids, the mother of three switches it up in the kitchen each morning. Ranging from scrambled eggs and gluten-free toast with avocado to coconut yogurt and the occasional gluten-free pancake, Bündchen makes breakfast for her little ones every day. To implement fruits into their diet, she serves the kid-favorite combo acai with berries and banana — and tries to convince them that it’s ice cream!

She doesn’t do caffeine: “I don’t drink coffee. I do like tea though, but at night. A cup of tea before I go to sleep.”

She so natural: “I exercise daily, I drink a lot of water, I eat healthy and we have a very healthy diet at home. I think all of that helps, but it’s also about an attitude and how you take care of your body and if you are nourishing yourself with the foods you eat and the thoughts you have.”

Her family garden: “We use the food from our garden daily. Winter in New England is very cold, so we can’t grow the same amount of food year around. During the growing season, we love our salads made from the spinach, kale, arugula, tomatoes cucumbers, zucchinis, squash and the other delicious things from our garden.”

[From People]

The only part I side-eyed: “Bündchen makes breakfast for her little ones every day.” Yeah, I doubt it. Not because I think Gisele is incapable of cooking, but because Gisele and Tom employ private chefs at, like, every one of their homes. I know Gisele has very strong feelings about what her kids consume, but I just doubt that she’s the one making meals for them every single day. As for “she serves the kid-favorite combo acai with berries and banana — and tries to convince them that it’s ice cream!” It’s not my favorite thing to say or predict, but let’s face it: there’s a very good chance that these kids are going to have very serious food issues in adulthood.

Also: never forget that when Gisele is smugging about her oh-so-natural lifestyle that this is the same woman who wore a burqa to go undercover at her plastic surgeon’s office in Paris. And this isn’t how her face looks naturally.

Ugh, another Duggar courtship. Let’s hope this one doesn’t crash and burn because of Chester Molester Big Brother! Just days after Jinger Duggar married Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger’s younger sister Joy-Anna Duggar has started “courting.” Joy-Anna is 19 years old, and the chances are pretty good that this guy will be the only one she ever dates. They’ll probably be married by Valentine’s Day and then the Duggar family will cycle in the next child’s courtship. Here’s a photo of Joy-Anna with her new guy:

Congratulations to Joy Anna and Austin on starting an official courtship! pic.twitter.com/wRnL2P5vi3

— Duggar Sisters (@DuggarSisters) November 16, 2016

Joy-Anna Duggar, 19, has entered into a courtship with her friend of 15 years, Austin, the teen revealed on Tuesday’s special episode of Counting On: Jinger’s Wedding. Just weeks after older sister Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo tied the knot with her former pro soccer player husband Jeremy Vuolo in front of nearly 1,000 friends and family, Joy-Anna confirmed that she is now spending intentional time with Austin.

“Hey y’all! I’m Joy Duggar and this is Austin,” Joy-Anna said in a video on the Duggar family website.

“I just asked her to enter a courtship with me,” Austin told cameras as he sat beside Joy-Anna.

“And I said yes!” Joy-Anna added. “We’ve known each other for a long time.”

Austin chimed in, “Almost 15 years. I picked this spot because last time we were here together was August 1, 2015.”

‘There was a whole group of us that came up,” Joy-Anna explained. “And we were just hanging out and it was really late at night, stars were just gorgeous. For me that’s really special, but then just being with him. And then now it’s even more special because it’s where we start our courtship.”

“It’s a place that I’ve come many times to just get away and spend time with the Lord,” Austin explained of the location that he chose. “I just knew that this was the place that I wanted to ask her.”

Joy-Anna then stated that she was “surprised” when he asked. “I hadn’t been here in so long. I was not expecting this. So happy.”

[From People]

Well… I’m searching for something nice to say. At least it’s not like she’s being sold off to some guy she barely knows. It’s clear that they have the same group of friends and they’ve known each other a long time, which sounds surprisingly typical for how teenagers actually date. Still, the fact that she’s probably going to be expected to marry this guy is what bugs me. That and how Jim-Bob and Michelle announce the courtship in a YouTube video. How embarrassing.

Oprah got some well deserved flack last week when she made a seemingly clueless tweet following Trump’s meeting with Obama. As you know, Trump seemed humbled and conciliatory after speaking with Obama for 90 minutes. He indicated that he would keep key parts of Obamacare, that he planned to honor US involvement in NATO, and like he also might be more reasonable than everything he’s done and said to date would indicate. As you also know, Trump was woefully ignorant about the requirements of being President and seemed unaware of basic requirements of the job. Plus we’ve seen Trump say one thing and then deny it or do another, sometimes within an hour or two. He can’t be trusted, this is a scary time, and so many of us are worried about our healthcare, social security, about potential raises in taxes for the middle class, and about a general attitude of hate and discrimination which has flourished in the wake of the election. This is what Oprah tweeted:

Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives! pic.twitter.com/YqNJSUab3a

— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) November 10, 2016

It’s easy enough for Oprah to tweet that from her massive compound while cuddling her spaniels and golden retrievers. She’s probably going to save millions of dollars under a Trump presidency and it’s not like she’ll be affected by cuts to social service programs. Oprah has rolled back her comments somewhat and admitted she made a mistake. Oprah talked about the tweet during a Q&A discussion with director Ava Duvernay following a screening of Duvernay’s new documentary, 13th. (Available now on Netflix.) It doesn’t sound like she’s apologizing exactly, just saying that she shouldn’t have addressed her tweet to everyone because it was more personal than that.

“Y’all heard about my tweet problems?” Winfrey asked a crowd on Sunday in Los Angeles…

Winfrey was slammed for the tweet throughout her mentions. “This is the second time I’ve had tweet troubles,” she said on Sunday. “And it’s the same lesson, so Jesus, I hear you. You don’t have to tell me again.”

Winfrey recalled getting in hot water when she had just started OWN for telling “everybody” with a Nielsen box to turn on her network as a way to increase ratings – and she explained how using “everybody” again was her mistake.

“I couldn’t breathe after the election,” she said. But seeing Trump and Obama together at the White House gave her a renewed sense of optimism. “I was expecting tension, awkwardness, and strain. So when I saw them sitting together, I actually took a picture of the screen that said ‘President-elect Trump honored to meet Obama.’ And President Obama was being so gracious, and I heard Donald Trump say, ‘He’s a good man.’ I heard Donald Trump say, ‘I’m going to be seeking his counsel.’ I literally went [deep breath], I can breathe now,” Winfrey said.

“My mistake, and this is what I know to be true: you can never talk about everybody,” she added. “Even in your arguments with your husband and your children. Don’t talk about what you should do, what you ought to do – you can only speak for yourself. So what I should have said was, ‘I just took a breath.’ What I said was, ‘Everybody take a breath – #HopeLives.’”

Winfrey said that perhaps a better hashtag would have been #CivilityLives, “because this was more civil than I expected it to be.”

The legendary talk show host has spoken out against Trump in the past, even comparing him to a “demagogue.” She said Sunday that her tweet was only in reference to the “transition of power” and not Trump’s policies. “Not, ‘Take a deep breath about… everything.’ No. Not at all.”

[From EW via Huffington Post]

I think I understand what Oprah is saying. She always touting wellness and relaxation techniques so you could read her tweet like she’s saying she could relax for once and that we’re in it for the long haul. She often generalizes her own experiences to other people so she didn’t realize that she shouldn’t do it in this case. Plus at least she left the tweet up and didn’t delete it once she realized it was tone deaf. It is somewhat reassuring that Trump seemed like he was seeking guidance from Obama, especially considering how incredibly ignorant he is about the job of being President. However we’ve seen the people he’s surrounding himself with, we’ve heard the warnings from the Republicans with consciences and even from the most strident right wing pundits. This is not normal, this is not ok and we should not try to normalize this by any means. We need to dig deeper and to stop trying to sound balanced. Treating Trump like an average Republican president is like giving climate change deniers equal debate time with scientists. One side has data and facts and the other is blatantly false. I really hope Oprah is right and that this is a good sign, but chances are low.

Dear Gossips,

“In the music business, when you disappear for a long stretch of time, you abandon your right to grouse about how things have changed in your absence…” – that’s how Jon Caramanica began his new article on A Tribe Called Quest in The New York Times yesterday and the group’s lates…

When I was covering the photos from the CMAs, I was sort of surprised to see Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s his-and-hers Botox-faces. While Nicole has long had a love affair with injectibles, Keith usually works a more “hyper-groomed” and less “frozen” look. Like, I think Keith would probably be described as a metrosexual, even with that godforsaken soul patch. But the couple that shares the love of Botox is perhaps the couple that stays together, because Keith absolutely looked like he was channeling a Ken Doll (a Ken Doll with a soul patch). Now Star Magazine says that people at the CMAs were a little bit taken aback with Keith’s new look.

Hollywood has long whispered about Nicole Kidman’s use of Botox to keep her eyes unlines and her forehead unfurrowed. Now it seems that her metrosexual husband, Keith Urban, has injected some togetherness into their marriage by possibly getting treatments of his own!

Nicole and Keith turned heads at the CMAs with their matching wrinkle-free faces – and some observers thought Keith had gone overboard.

“People couldn’t stop staring at him, and not in a good way,” says an eyewitness. “It’s one thing for Nicole to want to maintain that ‘showbiz glamour’ look’ it’s another thing for a country rocker to go down that road.”

Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Ramtin Kassir (who has not treated Urban) tells Star, “At 49, there aren’t signs of wrinkles, not even around his eyes when he smiles. It looks like he’s had a combination of nonsurgical procedures to eliminate lines and smooth out his skin. It appears he had Botox in his forehead, not just because of the absence of wrinkles, but because of the position of his brows, use of excessive Botox causes them to drop lower.”

Not only that, eagle-eyed witnesses noted that Keith “appeared to be wearing what could best be described as patent-leather elevator work boots.” [Editor’s note: those are also known as “lifts.”]

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Yes, it’s a combination of things, I agree with Dr. Kassir. It’s Botox, but it’s also a really orange fake tan, new highlights in his hair, and maybe a really aggressive facial? Whatever is happening, it’s not good. But I do think it’s sort of oddly sweet that Keith and Nicole have found something they enjoy doing together: non-surgical cosmetic work. They’re probably closer than ever.

THE LIFTS!!!!!
